A Home From Home
The hotel fits the tropical surroundings. Set in beautifully kept gardens. Trees, shrubs, the softest grass areas. Thatch, wood, stone, tile. The outdoors indoors. Red paved pathways throughout. All roads leading to well laid out pouts, particularly the beautiful beach, the well kept VIP area (make an appointment to have a tour inside. It costs nothing but time. I was impressed. An exceptionally beautiful and exclusive area of the hotel. Amir was my guide. Great approach, attitude and understanding of the guest's needs. Overall, the Be Live Collection Hotel Canoa is well done. Yes, it has a lived in feeling and like our own homes there's always going to be something which needs updating. But, on the whole, I felt more relaxed because of this. An open and expansive foyer. Intesting, traditional and modern all at once. The staff I came into contact with worked tirelessly to help the guests have a restful experience (big shout out to Mr Smith, Face Baby, Sonrita, Francesca, DJ Mario, Francoise, Cappuccino, Antonio, Frank, the most accommodating Housekeeper of room 1044 whose name I don't know and the polite young man who took my single case from my room on checkout on a traditional polished brass hotel trolley). Roles easily identifiable by uniforms. Knowledgeable, confident in their skills, respectful, friendly, busy - all in the most beautiful hot sunshine (and occasional short showers - for which each guest has a large white umbrella in the room. So thoughtful). My double room was spacious, clean and peaceful, over looking one of the many gardens around the resort. Woodpeckers, peacocks, ducks, turkeys! 😁 and black, three toed, red headed birds. Small birds, taking their chances, by darting into the large bright open aired buffet dining area. The food was creatively and well done. I was definitely spoiled for choice. No issues with seating, even at the busiest times. I sat in the staff dining area by mistake once and was made to feel welcome. Thanks guys! hasta la próxima vez ☺
Poor quality room, no seating area, had to bring outdoor table and chairs inside to have a place to sit. Food boring and the same everyday and not very good. Only one place to eat from. The beach, the grounds and the staff were the only nice things here. This was my 3rd time to Dominican Republic, and have stayed at 2 other resorts, both much better. I will not go back to this one, it was not what I expected.
Be Live Adults Only
We visited the Be Live Adults Only between Feb 26th - Mar 11th. On arrival we were met with a welcome drink and after a little confusion escorted to the VIP lounge where we were booked into a free upgraded room in the adults wing of the hotel. On entry we found a very nice but dated room that had a shower, jacuzzi tub and flat screen TV. Initial thoughts were that there was a little bit of a musty smell that we put down to being in the tropics. We arrived late so went for supper in the VIP restaurant my wife wasn’t overly impressed with. The food was average and the menu restricted to three items. On return to our room we had a cold shower as there was no hot water. Overall the resort is dated and in need of repair in many areas, the VIP beach/pool shower did not work during our two week stay. There is at time also a smell of sewer again probably due to the tropical climate. The general cleanliness is average for a two/three star resort. The beach is very nice though they don’t clean it up, or clean the chairs after the day, as has been the case in other resorts that we have visited. I noticed the VIP pool is usually cleared of leaves in the morning but never saw them clearing the sand and sunken debris throughout our vacation. The restaurants serve a variety of cuisine throughout the complex with the VIP upgrade giving unlimited access to all but the Veraclub one. (I wish I had known that before we had a lunch there). We inadvertently stayed into the restaurant over a lunch early in our vacation where I was served an undercooked burger resulting in frequent visits to the washroom over the following 48 hours. The other restaurants served a variety of food non of which were of a high quality, most of the seasoning came from over salting the food and not spices. As in most cases there was one exception to the rule which is the Pizza restaurant now that was very good though unfortunately not open very often. VIP upgrade gets upgraded drinks to a 12 year level should you choose the rums and scotches. Beer is Presidente light. The entertainment team never visited the VIP section of the beach and we never visited the theatre so I can’t comment on the quality of their entertainment. Now my wife wants to add her 10c.... We booked this resort thinking it offered an Adults Only option as per our search filtered criteria. This is NOT an Adults Only resort nor does it have an Adults Only section that is detached from the family side. Part of a block of rooms is restricted to Adults Only but only one end which is shared with family suites at the opposite end, therefore you have kids cutting through the ‘adults end’ as a short cut. That said there is no signage stopping them. A small part of the beach, small private pool, 1 VIP restaurant and a VIP Lounge are Adults Only. The remaining 9 restaurants which includes a buffet and all the entertainment is family oriented. The VIP Adults Only Lounge isn’t even close to the Adults Only side of the resort, it’s in the heart of the family side. Would I recommend this hotel, yes BUT only to families with an expectation of a 2 - 3 star rating. Would I return or recommend this resort as an adults only NO. It has an adults club and that is not what we are looking for in a vacation.
This hotel doesn't deserve to be rated as a 5 star hotel. Old rooms, noisy staff and animation team. You need to pay additional money for everything. Broken treadmills in a gym. Bad cleaning in rooms.
Myself and 2 friends had a wonderful time at this resort. The staff around the resort were warm and friendly. If we needed something, there was always someone to get it for us.. Our room was clean and comfortable and near the pool like we asked. Would recommend this resort to anyone
