Beautiful Resort
We have been coming to this resort for 3 years in a row. We always have a wonderful time. The waterslides for the kids are awesome. The beach is beautiful (albeit a bit rocky), the pools are clean and huge. There are always enough chairs for everyone. The food is very good. Our one complaint that we have from all of our trips is that they do not allow groups of more than 6 people to dine together (both at the reservation restaurants, and the buffet). We are 3 families travelling together and would love to get to share at least one meal together. Even the habachi restaurant would not accommodate our group.

Good resort in Riviera Maya
The Barcelo resort was very nice. Service and food were good. Landscape very nice. We enjoyed the Capri and Santa Fe a la carte restaurants. We went to the Brasserie Restaurant in the Palace section which was average food. Not worth the extra cost. The a la carte at the Mexican restaurant Mexico Lindo, the food was not good and neither the service. Despite the Resort's beauty and comfort I would not return because of the ocean situation, there were too many rocks in the water, we injured our feet in the first day and it hurts even after more than 1 week. We prefer beach to the pools so that was a downer for us.

Gone down the Hill
Hotel is getting tired , in need of a renovation in rooms. I have stayed at the Barcelo Hotels including the Palace over 20 times it’s my favourite . We were given tired towels , sheets bedding and beds , The fans in the bathroom are non existent so it’s very wet as the air is super damp in November sheets were damp it was quite uncomfortable . close the door and the air conditioner worked but it was a bit cold . I remember going there and they had the best food the buffet would have seafood theme night with piles of seafood , it was fabulous. The mix for the drinks was down right nasty tasting stuff , no fruit juice involved yuk ! All in all it’s a nice hotel but it’s gone downhill yet it’s still very expensive . i will be looking forward to a different high end hotels for my next vacation .

Large complex, entertainment lacking.
The Barcelo is a large complex , but well laid out & not overwhelming. Beach is lovely with lots of space but not nearly enough loungers so the early morning sunbed game is alive & well here. Food went downhill from 15 years ago but typical resort food, lots of it. You can hop from restaurant to restaurant but really it’s the same fare. Great service all around especially the a la cartes. Despite being told we had 9 restaurants to choose from, they only offered us 4. Don’t be swayed by the unofficial “adult pool” at Beach. Kids were everywhere & many behaved badly & unsupervised. On the weekends, the locals flock in by the hoards & looong lines at the buffets are crazy, never seen anything like it. It’s a higher price point, not sure if it’s worth it in high season. Service was consistent & what you would expect. The entertainment was practically non existent, so much potential there, maybe some live music & dancing. No excuse really considering the size of the place. Otherwise, a good choice for a Mayan get away.

Every time is a charm
This was, happily, our seventh stay at Barcelo Maya. We've considered trying other all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean, but if it isn't broken, why fix it? We've talked with guests who stayed at other resorts, and without exception, they've said they prefer Barcelo Maya. We've even met several guests who've been here more than 20 times! We visit in the fall, not in the high season, so I assume it's a little quieter and more pleasant for couples.
