Nov 28, 2025Every time is a charm
This was, happily, our seventh stay at Barcelo Maya. We've considered trying other all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean, but if it isn't broken, why fix it? We've talked with guests who stayed at other resorts, and without exception, they've said they prefer Barcelo Maya. We've even met several guests who've been here more than 20 times! We visit in the fall, not in the high season, so I assume it's a little quieter and more pleasant for couples.

Nov 28, 2025Black and Queer Experience - HORRIBLE - Would Not Recommend
quality of service was unbelievably poor. my partner and I were not helped from the moment we arrived to the day that we demanded to be moved to another resort - Maya Beach, which was an improvement. I am a Black and queer woman. The staff made fun of my hair at the Japanese restaurant. My partner and I received non-stop stares, glares and gawks from staff and other guests. It was EXTREMELY uncomfortable and yet, the management did nothing to help us. We met with our nexxus (westjet) representative who did little to help us. His advice: ignore it. or pay more money to move to another hotel. We demanded to speak to the management - surely once they heard how we were being treated they would do something. No. We had to push and push, talking to many different people at the front desk until they said there was space at Maya Beach. I will NEVER go back to any Barcelo establishments. Disgusting. On top of that, our room at Tropical was DAMP. the floors were wet. the bed was wet. we woke up in the middle of the night... you guessed it... wet. Overall, it was a completely uncomfortable and sad experience. We were SO excited to relax. We spent our hard earned money on our vacation. I felt hurt and disappointed that as paying customers, GUESTS at this hotel, that more was not done to even try to make the rest of our stay relaxing.

Tropical Barcelo
Excellent vacation spot. We will be returning. We stayed at the Tropical but primarily used the Caribe facilities as it was less crowded and more relaxing during our stay. The hydrotherapy spa was a great way to start our morning and is a must visit.

The room we stayed at was in tropical - ground level. Ceiling above toilet was leaking on our 2nd night. Sliding door screen broken. Moved to another room and the washroom sink was clogging and the toilet wall flush was falling apart :(

8th time and still LOVE this Place!
Just came back from our 8th visit to the Barcelo Mayan Grand Resort. We decided to upgrade to the Oceanview Suite at the Tropical and it was fantastic! We brought along my little sister for her first time anywhere and she cannot wait to return. The staff are always so accommodating and lovely and honestly the highlight of every trip here is the pure beauty of the beach and the ocean. Swimming with amazing animals like sea turtles is absolutely life changing and magical. This place ticks all the boxes. The pools are massive and beautiful. We never have any issues with the food or drink with or without premium and we can't wait to return again. Thank you to all the staff that make us feel like we are coming home year after year ♥️
