PROS: Location is good. The view is beautiful. The rooms are comfortable. The place is very clean. Many facilities, pools, and activities. The resort could have gotten a AAA + review but : CON: The food is tasteless, overcooked sometimes. Not impressed . The drinks I must say are not quality, inconsistent. It looks like the bartenders need a good training because each one seemed to make its own mix. The place can be crowded. Sumarizing, I expected a bit better for what we paid. The place is expensive. So, better for them if they read this and improve.

Got a great temp tattoo for the kids from the shop on the beach by the Tropical pool. One of the kids got a lizard the other a blue jay.

Barcelo Tropical
This was a beautiful resort and very good for families with children. The grounds were exceptionally maintained and the premium rooms were very large with a walk in shower and tub option. The beach is very rocky in some spots. The food was excellent and lots to choose from. Our a la carte restaurants were booked for us before arriving with convenient times for young children. This was an added bonus for booking premium.

Mostly good
The layout of this resort is just brilliant. They have a lot of activities for all age groups. The food is really good except that they should have more vegetarian options. These were quite limited. The rooms were pretty clean and close to amenities. Lots of activities, including sports and organized activities in the pool. The pools at this place are just spectacular. Lots of them and good layout. The beach has fine white sand and the beaches are large. The water is nice and warm. However, the seaweed needs to be cleaned more frequently. Also make sure to bring water shoes as the shallow water is very rocky and hurts the bare feet. One of the big drawbacks of this resort is that they have a limited number of lounge chairs. By 8 AM daily, they are all booked. This issue has to be addressed by the resort and fixed. This is a big drawback. I’m not sure if it is greedy guests double booking a chair at the poolside and the beach side. But the resort needs to fix this.

Loved the Barcelo Maya Tropical
Had a great time, as always. Colonial and Tropical are wonderful and relatively inexpensive and a huge value for your dollars.
