    Barcelo Maya Palace

rooms big with lots of storage space. The resort is beautifully decorated with lots of seating everywhere. The ambiance and lighting at night is very pretty! The pools were very clean. Loved the water aerobics. As we checked in, the front desk supervisor Jennifer Nunez was very rough and rude in regard to our rooms. The pictures on your website show two beds in the Jr. Suite so the ones who had 3 or 4 people in the room, only got a king size bed. So, mother/son, brother/sister couldn't sleep on one bed. Instead of explaining all of this nicely, she outright was aggressive and confrontational. It was not a nice way to start our vacation. At the Hacienda, the service was great (Wilbert was very nice). It was very clean. The samosas, salmon, & some other things were really good; however, the food was hit and miss. The hashbrowns, churros & fries were old & stale most of the time. The oatmeal was VERY watery. The omelets were good but a few times our regular eggs were raw and gel like. The toaster only toasted one side. Overall the food is ok, except for brasserie which was really good with excellent service from our waiter (we had him for two nights but can't remember his name). Bartenders were very nice, but none of them had an exact recipe to a particular drink. Each time was different. All the other usual blended drinks hardly had any alcohol. On the other hand, my daughter doesn't drink & she ordered her drinks without alcohol, but each time, they put some alcohol in her drink. Maria at the reservation desk was very kind; however, the reservation process was very time consuming and complicated. We had 26 people in our party, so I understand that it's not a small table, but there were too many complications. The Rodizio manager (older male-can't recall his name) was very kind and accommodating. Housekeeping did not always respond to requests. Such as the steamer not working.

    November 2025 Wedding review

I got married and stayed in Barcelo colonial at the end of November 2025. We chose this location for the reasonable price and the beautiful chapel for a religious ceremony. We had our wedding in the chapel with Father Hubert and a reception on the beach after. It was a beautiful day and a beautiful stay overall. We had about 20-25 rooms within our room block and from the best of our knowledge, everyone was happy with the accommodations and the wedding day itself. We owe it all to our wedding coordinator Angel Parra. We did not have an outside wedding planner and went with all of the resort's vendors including photographer, music, churros/desserts, decorations, flowers. We were happy to not have to drive ourselves crazy to find local vendors ourselves and trusted Barcelo and Angel. Everything was beautiful and felt like it all perfectly fell into place the day of, but Angel was very present and very professional. He was able to accommodate folks with limited mobility and even having the Beetles play during our religious ceremony. The food was great and so was the cake! Our photographer was super committed to getting great shots and we have hundreds of photos we just love. We stayed for a week and our guests stayed for 3 days, and everyone wishes we could've stayed longer. We 100% recommend going with this resort for your wedding, and if you can chose we highly recommend working with Angel and having churros as your dessert vendor!

    Overall Great Spot

Resort was clean, well kept and relaxing. All of the staff were great and very respectful. It’s a large resort(s) so plan for lots of walking. Lots of great food options. The à la cartes were all excellent. The beach was nice, lots of pool options. You could also explore the Cenotes across the highway. The only complaints were the coffee wasn’t great (minor) but tasted bitter and overextracted and some of the shows were cancelled or changed without notice to guests. There was an hour plus travel out of Cancun so plan for that. Otherwise great venue and would return.

Good comfortable stay, few things could be improved

Awesome resort. Good food. Good service. Few things good be improved: Add more seats/chairs around the pool area. You have the space. This will make it easy on everyone to find a place and not wake up at 6 am to grab a chair. Secondly the body wash, shampoo quality could be better. And you could start providing body lotion, that will be great. Lastly, it’s difficult to get a reservation to restaurants. This needs to be solved so people get to try these awesome restaurants you have and don’t return disappointed
