    Not overly impressed

Chose this resort to have our wedding celebration with 14 other family and friends. Beautiful grounds and location. Food very good with plenty of selection. Overall we had a good time. Unfortunately, a few of us came down with gastro issues for about 4 out of our 7 days there. We had a premium oceanfront room which was nice. Our main issues were that our bed was super hard so we requested a mattress topper 3 separate times and not one staff actually helped. Nothing was ever done about it so we had to endure back, hip and shoulder pain for our entire trip. We even spoke with a manager who also did nothing despite promising to get us a topper. The other issue was we only ever had our mini bar restocked 3 times, despite asking daily. Also, pool was freezing. Very few people were ever even in it. Doubt we will return.

    Super Resort !

Super experience at this resort ! Therefore, it is hudge, be ready to walk a lot. Very clean, most of the employees are friendly, the a la carte restaurant are incredible. We went to the Brasserie Francaise, the Rodizion, the Capri and the Tokyo. They were all amazing. We have seen tortules just in front of the Resort. Nice beach. I would highly recommend.

    Amazing place. Very recommended!

An amazing stay at Barceló Maya Palace! The beautiful beach, spacious and spotless rooms, and incredibly friendly staff made our trip truly special. The buffet food was average, but the breakfasts and evening restaurants were excellent and more than made up for it. The resort is well organized, luxurious, and perfect for both relaxation and fun. I would happily return!

If You Like Second Hand Smoke, You'll Love This Place

This review is based on our Premium level oceanfront room. Mexico enforces some of the world's strictest tobacco laws, banning smoking in nearly all public spaces, including beaches, parks, hotels, and restaurants, with strict rules against advertising and sales displays, plus a ban on e-cigarettes and vapes, punishable by fines or confiscation, making private residences the main exception for smoking. The above paragraph is the law. Why does this resort not follow it. Ashtrays everywhere!!! The hallways have them, the rooms have them, they have a pop-up selling cigars and people smoking around pools and especially on the beach. What really ticked us off was the rude french speaking people that would light up right beside you and don't give a damn who they were offending. No security anywhere to tell these bozos to butt out. Now the good stuff. Check-in and check-out were a breeze in the Premium Lounge. These people do a great job. We had numerous visits there in our almost 2 week stay and always got super service. Kudos go out to Noe and Maydalid for always being professional there. The other staff were amazing. Buffets were great, with 3 buffets within 100 feet of each other, with their openings slightly staggered. Kudos go to Santiago who worked both main buffets. Great service and great personality. The Mirador and the Hacienda were full blown buffets, and the Coral was a downsized version, and referred to as a snack place. Al a carte meals were great. In the French, we had Feliciano and Victor serving us and doing a splendid job. Our housekeeping staff were excellent, doing a great job and always had our room done quite early. Entertainment was hit and miss, with the usual Michael Jackson being horrible. Other shows were tolerable. The oceanfront premium building was a very long way from the main buildings, so be prepared to do a lot of walking. Resort is super clean and workers do a great job keeping it that way. There are double decker buses to take you from resort to resort, but if your timing is off, you can wait and/or ride a long time. This resort is a long way to the airport, pretty much 1 1/2 hours ride, and is just too far and too big. If you have mobility issues, this is not the place for you. Over 750 rooms which mean a lot of people, and the beach got very crowed early, as people staked out their chairs by 7:30 every morning, even though you're not supposed to, and sometimes you wouldn't see them for hours. Because this resort caters to smokers, and the distance from the airport, we will not return here.....ever.
