Our Beach Resort Getaway Was Incredible!
We just returned from our vacation at the beach hotel resort, and it was truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome with their warm, friendly service and genuine attention to detail. Every interaction felt personalized, and they went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. Our room was absolutely amazing—spacious, beautifully designed, and complete with a hot tub that became one of our favorite parts of the trip. It was the perfect place to unwind after a day in the sun. The food at the resort exceeded our expectations. Whether it was breakfast by the beach or dinner under the stars, every meal was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. There was plenty of variety, so everyone in the family found something they loved. The amenities were equally impressive. The pool area was clean, relaxing, and great for both adults and kids. The beach was stunning—soft sand, clear water, and plenty of space to enjoy the sun. We also had a blast at the basketball court, which was a fun way to stay active during our stay. Families will especially appreciate the kids’ activities. There was always something fun and engaging happening, and our kids were entertained from morning to night. The staff running the activities were energetic, patient, and great with children. Overall, our experience at the resort was outstanding. It was the perfect blend of relaxation, fun, and great service. We can’t wait to come back!

A great place with SUPER friendly staff
We were here for an event, and this location, and staff made it a lovely stay. The beach is gorgeous, there are so many things to do, and the rooms were fairly well insulated sound - wise. I was worried that at a big event, it might be loud in our room, but it was not!

The "good" was GREAT. The "bad" was a NIGHTMARE
Where to begin? I booked these rooms almost a year ago, using my USBANK card to pay the deposit. A couple months ago, USBANK called and told me that my card had been hacked and someone used my rewards points to buy Nintendo gift cards, so they issued me a new card for this account. No worries, everything worked exactly as before. But what I didn't realize was that THE EXACT SAME CARD must be used to pay the final balance on arrival at the resort. THE EXACT SAME CARD. Not a card from the exact same account that USBANK had to replace because mine had been compromised. The desk absolutely refused to let me pay with the replacement card until I spent about an hour tracking down, with the help of my son back home, a screen shot of the original deposit from an old online statement (something I couldn't access from my phone). He had to text it to me, and I had to do another screen shot and EMAIL it to the woman at the counter. I had my reservation in hand, my passport, my phone number, and plenty of credit on several cards. I thought this policy is extremely worrisome. Cards expire and are replaced. Cards are lost or stolen. They simply wouldn't take my replacement card without a fight. I asked what would have happened if I couldn't have gotten ahold of my son? They'd refund my deposit and cancel my reservations (four very expensive rooms). If I wanted to stay, I'd have to re-book at the walk-in rate, which was much higher. Is this a racket? So that was a terrible experience. Now, the GOOD: If you do stay at the Barcelo complex, which is, I believe six separate resorts, I think ours, the Caribe, is the best in some ways. The beach in front was better than some of the others, and we're attached to the Maya Mall, which includes high end shops along with many, many small souvenir shops with reasonably priced goods. There's a bowling alley, multiple restaurants and bars (you get some vouchers for the specialty restaurants which you can choose: steak house, mexican, japanese, Italian). Otherwise you can eat at the buffet, which has the largest selection of all types of foods I've ever seen. Not all delicious, but enough great stuff to eat very well. Loads of veggies, many vegan choices, even a kiddie section. Plenty of seafood, which is my favorite. Desserts were works of art. Seriously beautiful. We had rooms facing the ocean. They were huge, beautiful, gorgeous, serviced daily by lovely staff. We struggled a bit to find out what activities were included daily, but found enough to keep us busy. They have an office that sells day tours, and we had a nice private tour for our group of eight to Tulum, caves, an Cenotes, including lunch. Would I go back? Probably not; the challenge of checking in still hurts. But as far as the resort itself, it is pretty spectacular. Loved the wildlife we encountered too: bats, coati, iguanas, neat birds. The beach was wonderful and there's a fun aqua-aerobics class by the Captain Morgan bar/restaurant at noon daily.
