Best Vacation Ever!!
There were 9 of us...3 rooms, 6 adults and 3 children. Ages ranged from 65 years - 6 months; my husband, our 2 daughters, and their families. It was the first vacation with our sons-in-law. Everyone had a ball and no one was ready to leave. The resort was beautiful, the rooms were clean with ocean views, delicious food, great drinks, friendly, helpful staff. We were there in November; the week before Thanksgiving. The weather was beautiful, but the water was cool if you were not in the sun. We’d love to go back one day!
Had a great time, staff were really helpful and friendly, especially the waiter Carlos Salinas at La Plaza. He was really helpful and attentive, honestly the best service I've ever received by any employee. Will be coming and recommending to this Resort because of the great staff like Carlos!
No longer a 5 star family resort, more of a 4 star convention & conference center
This was our second time to the Hyatt Ziva, we had a family vacation the previous year during the exact time frame, end of February. The downgrade in quality of the hotel, from the previous year, was obvious as soon as we checked in. While the service from staff was exceptional, everything else was a big disappointment. Right at check in we noticed various different signs and booths set up for companies holding seminars, conferences, awards ceremonies, sales meetings, etc. Throughout our week long stay these various company events took over all areas and grounds of the hotel, with events going well into the night. On a daily basis most of the outdoor areas, including pool grounds and pathways around the hotel, were either taken up with company events or they were occupied throughout the day with set up crews. Trying to relax and navigate in our beach attire, bathing suits, among constant work crews and company employees which were in business attire, was beyond uncomfortable, awkward and not what we paid for when we purchased a package to this 5 star family resort. We were at no point made aware by Hyatt or Canada Vacations that the hotel had changed its scope. At dinner time, accessing resort restaurants or even getting around the hotel was challenging and impossible at times, as grounds and restaurants were overtaken and blocked off for these various company events. Then there was the constant day long noise from these events, with team building, training and sales events over taking any quiet or relax time. Other areas of the hotel also suffered a very obvious and definite downgrade. The restaurants, including the main buffet restaurant, were very downgraded from the previous year. The food selection or availability was cut in half. Most breakfasts we spent waiting around for food to be replenished and the constant run out of buffet dishes was at every meal. Some of the breakfast dishes had also been cut in half, literally. Dinner time was a joke in terms of selection and quality and did not fit the experience we had the previous year or at other 5 star resorts. Other areas we were shocked to see had been lowered in terms of standards and even safety, were basic necessities and requirements at any resort, but especially at a 5 star resort. Pool chairs were rationed and scarce, and on a daily basis there was a constant struggle to get any available seating. Having to wake up at 6am to secure chairs was unacceptable. Guests had to resort to all kinds scams to get these chairs even from the night before. Again not acceptable for a 5 star ALL INCLUSIVE resort. What the hotel did do instead was set up cabanas which could be rented for about $50US a day, this was also unacceptable as this is an all inclusive resort and we shouldn't be paying for sitting around the pool or beach. This kind of trickery on the hotel's part was very obvious throughout the day and all other guests we spoke too were very displeased with the situation and said they would not be coming back. In terms of safety, there are the expansive concrete pool areas and walkways, which are falling apart to the point that the plastic meshing under the concrete had been exposed and posed a very big safety hazard to those with bare feet which was the norm around the pool. With the exception of wonderful staff, which were courteous, understanding, and unbelievably hard working, this hotel is no longer a 5 star hotel, a family resort or even a relaxing resort. The only thing 5 star about the Hyatt Ziva is the price tag. We had planned to make this hotel our yearly family vacation destination, but we will not be going back.
Amazing resort amazing staff!
Our family had a terrific stay at the Hyatt Ziva we will definitely be back. The premises and restaurants were first class. Overall the staff was fantastic, a few of them went above and beyond to make our stay very special.... Margarita, Edgar, and Armando!!! Hope to see you there again soon.....
Expected more, regardless of the timing!!
We arrived before the Coronavirus was in full swing. Upon check-in, they tried to put us in a room that was less quality than we had originally booked through Expedia. After questioning them and some resistance to “just accept it”, they said we’d have to wait a few hours before our room was ready (I don’t know why, as the resort was @ 20% capacity). Once we got our room, we went to see Maria for her pool side tacos (other reviewers had recommended). She deserves all the amazing reviews!! Over the next few days the quality of the hotel went way down. With the Coronavirus clearly effecting their occupancy, they started shutting down their services! For example, 1) They would not heat the 3 Hot Tubs, even after repeated requests. 2) They kept lying about not having certain premium alcohols, or just serving less quality regardless of what you asked for. 3) They shut down the lunch restaurants, except for a pool side taco stand and snack bar. 4) We were told you can’t get certain foods at the pool because they “weren’t available”, yet others served the exact thing next to you 10min later. 5) Shut down two main restaurants each night, limiting your choices. 6) Shut down elevators to the rooms, limiting to one elevator per bank. 6) French resturant food was served cold, as if it had just been taken out of the refrigerator. It was inedible, but they could care less. 7) I’m sure I could go on, but the last straw was, they stopped heating the water for showers the last two days. Unfortunately, the workers took the brunt of the complaints, when it was clearly the Hyatt Ziva executive decision to cut costs. Everyone was talking about not getting what we had paid for. The lone bright spot, was breakfast. Not because of the food, but because we had an Amazing server, Juan Bracamontes!! We made an effort to sit in his section each morning and he would greet us with a huge smile! After two mornings, he not only remembered what we liked for our drinks and have them on the way, but started calling us by our names (3 people). Regardless of what the hotel was doing, he maintained a smile and a positive attitude, and that really touched us! For Juan and Maria alone, I give it 3 stars.
