Huge hotel - ideal for families with kids
I did a lot of research before booking this hotel and was slightly worried by a few of the negative reviews but am happy to say that I need not have been worried. This place is ideal for families especially with small kids. We stayed just before the coronavirus epidemic shut everything down so we did have to cut our 10 day trip short by 2 nights. But aside from that - the rooms are great, we had a 2 bedroom family room in the family section, very high standard. The Barcy kids pool is great, and all the pools are brilliant. The beach is stunning. The food is good, buffets are buffets, hard to make a buffet amazing when catering for so many but we always found plenty of choice. The a la carte were good too, tried the Spanish, Mexico, steakhouse twice, Japanese, with the exception of the Mexican which was only ok, they were all very enjoyable. The staff I found very attentive, yes some of them have very little English but I have no Spanish so that's not their fault. The resort is huge but never felt it, very easy to navigate. Went to the Pirate's ship water park too, the kids enjoyed that a lot. So much to do, the kids had a ball. Even though we had to cut our trip short I would definitely return again. The gift shop for nappies etc is very overpriced and quite a long process for checking in, those would be my only negatives.
BUGS ALL OVER BED
I recently traveled to Barcelo Bavaro Palace in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. I had an awful experience. There were bugs all over my bed and they got into my clothes. My whole wardrobe had bugs as well. Then I had to ask to be moved into another room, the staff did not care at all and didn't even apologize. They put me in a worse room after telling me it was an upgrade. I also called the front desk numerous times on 3 occassions and nobody ever came. I couldn't even sleep of go near my bed or relax the entire vacation.
I had been to this resort probably 20 yrs ago before the renovations. The service was wonderful from the moment we arrived, they tried to accommodate my room request, as I have back surgery and cannot walk far distances. The resort is huge so there is still alot of walking that needs to be done. Our room was beautiful and clean, everything worked and the view was gorgeous. We had a mini guest services near our tower were a wonderful employee Ivanny Abreu made every attempt to accommodate our dinner reservation request. She was friendly and patient. She also, unbeknownst to us noted on our reservation for the evening we were celebrating my birthday and they sang and bought me a beautiful cake. They also left me a nice keepsake scroll from the resort, wishing me a happy birthday in my room. She was friendly and patient. You can tell she enjoys her job. We also, had a great experience at the spa that was running a special which was very affordable. Food was good and pretty varied. Only disappointments was the weather wasn't that great for the week we were there. We left right before the COVID-19 crackdown. Employees were offering hand sanitizer outside the buffet at all times, which means they were taking things seriously. The only recommendations I would make is that there should be some in room detailed guide about the resort. (there is a book but just hi-lights the resort) Even someone from the resort to explain how to get around, there are alot of shortcuts that we were not aware of until midway through our trip. And lastly they really need to offer free wi-fi. Overall, would definitely return sometime in the near future and would even request the same room, as we had a great location. Thank you Barcelo for a wonderful experience and Birthday!
My friends and I went here for spring break. We had a great time and liked everything about the place. We really enjoyed the sports bar, especially our bartenders Angelo, Marcos, and Ronny. They were great bartenders and had great personalities. Food was ok, nothing special. Not the best place for spring breakers but still fun for those who like it a little more low key. Definitely recommend going on the party boat trip you won’t regret it. All in all great experience!
I loved this place! Its a site to see and staff are smiling no matter when you see them! So much to do! All inclusive so it includes everything! Only thing i wish is they had a book explaining everything! A lot of wasted time figuring out how things went, where things were, etc! I recommend meeting up with concierge as soon as you get there to set up for special restaurant's!! Also the sports bar is 24/7 definitely try it and not buffet it was really good!! Also paying thousands for a trip and certain rooms dont include wifi!!! That was really strange considering cheap motels give that! Pay 12 a day or I think it was 45 a wk per device! Other than those issues i enjoyed our trip! I read reviews for wks and never experienced anything bad not one thing! So i may of got lucky idk! Wish the rooms were bigger or different glass in shower! But the beach is right there. So many free things to do on resort! I recommend bringing ur own balls to play with. Also sunblock, aloe, bug spray! I paid 18.99 for small bottle of sunblock that in states is 4.99 lol but it was well worth it! Totally recommend! Its very kid friendly not people brushing into you plenty of space! Besides buffet but that's normal!! The staff was super attentive crazy how they are at every door and all over saying hola and smiling! They also will make any smoothy drink u can think of it seemed lol alcahol or not! We paid for extras off the resort but there is a lot of the same on as well. We did the dolphin experience, party boat, dune buggy, zip line, checked out ood villages, horses, snorkeling, and went down into mines. Also sorry im all over the place.... But, i totally recommend you to pay the 1000 extra for the better room you get extra stuff, free wifi, they give 1000 spending money, bottle of alcohol of ur choice, different stuff so its well worth it! Hope this helps you! I tried finding a good review to give me a lot of info and i wasted so much time! Also if ur a smoker cigs r cheaper in smoke shop in resort instead of gift shop. But the duty free at airport marlboros were $32! Thats half price compared to where i am! Hope this helps and i will try to edit/update as more comes to mind! We got junior premium. We had no issues w kids being loud hardly seen them unless u were up at activities if that is what ur worried about. Its spacious so u won't have issues. U can also walk down beach & off resort as well. Sports bar has alcohol 24/7 premium suite u get free room service including alcahol as well.
