Foodies stay away.
Buffet food ruined the experience. Cold and not very good. Ala carte was better. Nothing was worth going back for seconds, only the soup was good.

We will come back,
Our first time to Huatulco. Overall the rooms were good. We requested a king bed, when we arrived it was 2 beds (unsure of the size, not a Canadian queen size). But the view from our room was fantastic. We chose to stay in the same room. I understand kings are subject to availability. The mini fridge in the non premium rooms have only a few beverages to choose from. 2 beer, 2 Pepsi and a couple other beverages with 1 each. A/C worked great. One downside, the temperature of the food in the buffet was disappointing. Nothing was really hot.... warm at best. Burgers seemed to be undercooked to Canadian standards. (Hint of pink sometimes pink in the middle) we had no issues from the quality of the food thankfully. The food was tasty, I tried some new foods. Thank you/gracias. The servers that walked around bringing beverages were awesome. Spoke pretty good English. One of the bartenders in the pool bar struggled to get the drinks right though. But when we ordered through the servers they were bang on. The one guy remembered us day to day. I think that was awesome too.

Will definitely stay here again
We stayed at the Barcelo Huatulco Jan 18-25. The location and weather were 10/10. The cleanliness of the resort was 10/10. It’s a small resort so it’s quiet without much in the way of activities. You also only get 2 a la carte meals which I’ve never seen at a resort so that’s a lot of buffet meals. The wifi was hit and miss and there are no English channels when you want to chill after a day at the pool before yet another buffet dinner. Oh they don’t supply conditioner or lotion. There was only one working elevator so we used the staff stairs but, since 80% of the guests are seniors, they should probably get that sorted. The staff were very friendly and the food was decent. I’d definitely stay here again.

Good and not so Good
Too small hotel for us. Only 3 al a carte restaurants and seafood was not even open. The Hot Buffet food was often cold at lunch and dinner. Lounge chairs are reserved but many times no one came all day to claim them. That should be monitored. The rooms were clean, but you had to tip the maid her to come earlier in the day or you wait till 4pm or later. We had light bulb issued that was notified front desk but NO one ever came to replace in our 10 days stay. Definitely a lot of older clients. Average age was 75+. Very few families and younger people. We love Huatulco with the weather being consistently sunny every day, but will not be back to Barcelo.

Third time's a charm
This was our 3rd time at the Barcelo. We went with my extended family and our group ranged from 17-80. All of us enjoyed our experience at the hotel. The food has improved over the past 3 years and the buffet has more options. We would eat at the restaurant by the beach for breakfast and lunch. The waiters/waitresses were very friendly. Herlin and Alma were especially helpful. We went to the Italian and Sushi a la cartes, the waiters were great in both restaurants and our entire group enjoyed the experience. Angel and Xemina at the front desk were very helpful in arranging our a la cartes with our large group. We appreciated the coffee machines at the lobby. It was easy to grab a coffee early in the morning and on our way to our room after a day at the beach. The service around the pool was fantastic. Fernando helped our group with suggestions for new drinks and we tried many new drinks as a result of his suggestions. We never had trouble getting loungers throughout the week. The activity pool entrance was blocked the whole week with loungers which made it difficult for one of our group to get in the pool as the railing always had loungers in front of it. The resort had the loungers laid out this way all week so it did make the pool less accessible for our group. The resort is very clean and we always saw workers cleaning, even the big chess set by the pool was cleaned every day. The rooms are nice with beautiful views. We upgraded to premium and our room was beachfront with a gorgeous view. The arcade room is a lot of fun. The tokens are a bit pricey and you have to buy them from the gift shop and not in the actual arcade room. We went to several evening shows. The singers and dancers are great performers. The costumes are beautiful The shows are mostly in Spanish so English speaking tourists may struggle a bit. Elevators were broken throughout the week which made it a bit less accessible for one of our group who uses a cane and walker. From other reviews it looks like the elevators have been broken for a fair amount of time. The only other negative was that the front desk was reluctant to exchange any denomination of pesos for 20 pesos. We'd see the front desk staff with a stack of 20s and then when members of our group would ask to exchange a larger bill for 20s they would say they did not have any 20s. This happened several times during the week. Overall it's a great resort and we would return for a 4th visit.
