Enjoyable resort
Nice resort, buffet food was good with a large selection. Pools were great. Entertainment was decent. Shop on line for excursions, I was not happy with AmStar excursions.

Great Service, Spacious Rooms, and a Few Beach Limitations
The hotel has simple but spacious rooms, and the pool is huge. The buffet is well served and offers a good variety of food. The staff and attendants are very helpful and friendly. Another positive highlight is the Portofino restaurant, an Italian restaurant located inside the Bahia Principe Ambar hotel. The staff there are extremely helpful and friendly, and the food is delicious. The only downside is the beach. It is a bit far from the hotel, and you can only use the area designated for your hotel category, since there are other hotels from the same chain. When you arrive, sunbeds are already marked with towels even if no one is using them. The beach area reserved for the Aquamarine is very small and there is almost no shade. It is worth mentioning that the hotel offers a late checkout option of up to 5 hours, costing USD 10 per additional hour. Other than that, I have nothing else to point out about the hotel.

Bahia Principe VIP bracelets
This was our 14th trip to the BahiaPrincipe Chain. Well years ago we bought into the fact if you travelled 10 time to one of their resorts you were rewarded with a VIP braclet upon signing in a a guest. The bracelet just showed you were a frequent visitor and allowed you to go everywhere in the resort. Bars and restaurants. Most of the Privilage club carneys left you alone. Well this trip we were expecting the same treatment and we were extremly disapointed. This being our 14th trip and most trips we talked others into going with us. So without reservation I would say us and our groups have spent well in excess of $80,000 dollars over the years. Like I say we were Bahia junkies. Now this trip we were greated with uh no, no longer have VIP. So we began our vacation. First day at the beach we went to the restaurant by Amber at the beach. I must say we have eaten at ths restaurnat well over 20 times. This time while my wife was using the restroom I was greated by a rather unfriendly woman in charge and she kicked me out of the restaurant. Mind you she was considerate and let me finish. Imagine that getting kicked out a restaurant you visited many time. Everyone around our table heard this and it was rather emabrasing. So after a week we returned home wth a little disapointment. What the Bahia Principe Team needs to understand we along with many other help build your Empire by being LOYAL. Unfortunatly Bahia does not understand LOYALTY and they have shown us none. So would we come back to the BAHIA if the price was right probally but were looking around and were not commited to being LOYAL as no LOYALTY was shown back. So ae we get older and are going to be traveling more I just would like the Bahia Chain to know we are booking with my brother and sister inlaw at the JOIA PARASIO IBEROSTAR in the Myan Rivera, Mexico. 4 of us just under $20,000. So we as a very small group know we wont have that big of a dent in Bahia making money but we do have a say in where we send our money. And from here out after this trip we just might be IBEROSTAR fans. So over the course of the next 5 years Bahia by cancelling the VIP program you are loosing well over $100,000 bucks. Plus whomever does not go because of your treatment of guests well that not my problem. Most of the staff are extremly frienly but many things have changed and not for the better. Anyways thanks for the great memories..

Dirty, smelly, rude staff …spend a bit more go elsewhere!
We left after one day! We upgraded and paid the difference to go to the BP Esmeralda….even thought it was not an adults only it was 100 times better than Aauamarine. Aquamarine is dated, moldy, run-down. Rooms smell horrible and are damp and wet. Staff are so incredibly rude….we felt like we had gone back to university days and getting the cheapest resort we could afford! They actually pointed to our building and said go to your room - no one to help at all! All “premium” alcohol (they consider cheap Canadian Club to be premium) and upcharge $9 USD a drink. It is a joke at this resort…..horrible!

Overall Good
Just got back from Punta Cana and stayed at the Bahia Principe Aquamarine. Overall, it was great. Few issues but none that would not make me come back. The resort is much bigger than what I am comfortable with but there is something for everyone. I would recommend block 80 for the rooms if you want to be close to pool, buffet and large lobby. There are lots of cats frolicking about but they leave you alone. Most are quite cute and friendly and seem pretty healthy! The staff are friendly, the rooms, hotel and grounds are very clean. The buffet food is awesome and has a great selection. The à la carte restaurants are very good - try the Mongolian which is new! We did wait over an hour for our table at Limbo and the service was mediocre. The service at the Mexican was terrible and very slow and the food was ok. The Beach restaurant which is the Mexican restaurant always appeared dirty at lunch and service was not good. Tipping is something that has been ingrained to receive better service in some areas and you might even be ignored which is not right. I only had pesos with me fir tipping which is fine. We took an excursion which I would not recommend. The Marinarium - not worth it. The bus was late, getting onto the boat took close to an hour for a half hour snorkel in very murky and crowded waters. ..saw NO sharks and one stingray. A tiny sandwich and some drinks and a waist deep swim which was to your neck and water was so murky! We went on the tour operator's suggestion - they should know!! Been on great excursions but this was not one of them! The weather is great and make sure you bring lots of sunscreen and bug spray for the evening!
