  Unfortunately, it’s a no.

  We went to the Royalton Antigua beginning of April. Definitely not a 5 stars. The hotel is not old but it’s seems there is no maintenance ( lights broken, many exposed plaster patches, etc., even the volleyball net was torn). People who work there seem to want to be somewhere else, tourists seem to bother them. Buffet is always the same every day and it’s no 5 stars: pizza, pasta 2-3 salads, fries, a bit of meat like sausage, ground beef, etc. And they don’t fill it so at 8:00 in the morning there is no more yogourt unless you ask and persist, no fresh fruits, etc. Same for lunch. Steakhouse is no good, the Italian is very good, and the third restaurant (there is only 3) we were never able to book in a week. There is one great person and it’s Orvina at the ici cream coffee shop. Even if the beach is very nice, we Definitely will never go back there.

  Great hotel.Still awaiting our $140 refund .

  We paid a holding deposit of $140 on arrival on the 8th April.for a 7 day holiday We have yet to be refunded .It's now the 29th .Is this a common issue with the Royalton Antigua.? Great holiday but this has left a negative feeling with our stay. Will email Virgin holidays tomorrow

  Very disappointed

  This hotel needs some serious updating. The management in charge of this place needs some training how to organize staffing and supplies. I don’t understand how they run out of pop and standard liquor choices (rum and rye). Everyday I was told sorry we don’t have that. They must know how many people are checking in and out each day. For the price of this resort it was not worth the money. The food was pretty good with lots of choices. The weather was not great lots of cloud and rain so this made it more difficult to overlook the hotel experience.

  Very unfortunate

  Very unfortunate to experience what we have. It became some what unfortunately comical with regards to getting a drink. I had to ask my wife to provide me with 4 choices of what she would like to drink as everyday regardless of the bar they didn’t have something. If it wasn’t the liquor it was the mix. Our room was dated and one shower head didn’t work. The room had paint stains on the curtains and on the glass on the balcony. The balcony door didn’t lock and the screen was ripped and poorly repaired. No hooks to hang towels after shower therefore we had choice but to leave the on the floor. Normally not a big deal but for the money paid to stay one would expect a lot better. I know we don’t go to these vacations with intentions on staying in the room but it is nice to have one that is comfortable for relaxing after a long day. Food was ok for the most part. We don’t mind having to wait for service but this was pushing the limit. For the most part all staff was very pleasant but one felt that they were told to not say anything so I therefore felt sorry for them as this is a management problem not theirs. This resort is by no means a 5 star rather 2 star. The location is great but the hotel needs a lot of work.

  Honest review of what to expect

  Most of the reviews I read made this resort look really bad. We decided to book it anyway as most of the complaints we didn’t think would affect us. We waited a long time for our room to be ready, even though we arrived at 4pm (after check in time). I could tell there was something wrong, the front desk staff was whispering and trying to call and find out what the issue was. They told us to come back in an hour. 2 hours later our room was finally ready. It was not the room we booked/paid for (lower class), lots of damage in the room, when I opened the door there was white goo all over the door handle, it was wet drywall mud, they had just patched a hole in the wall. Probably the hold up. Shower only partially worked, and the seat was cracked in half. We didn’t really care, we were exhausted from a 12 hour travel journey and just wanted to get our 6 year old to the pool to get some wiggles out before the sun went down. Honestly we had such a fun time, I didn’t even bother trying to switch rooms. Lots of people in reviews I read said the staff is rude, I would say 70% were amazing, and the others weren’t rude, just not overly friendly. Shout out to Vanessa, the Marriott liaison, she is a gem, brought a smile to my son’s face everyday and always checking we had everything we needed. The vibe team is amazing, I can’t remember his name but I think he was the head of the entertainment, he was so fun. The beach was spectacular. Book all of your excursions with Stone Cold, he was very good to us. We only ever ate at the buffet because we have a 6 year old and just wanted to get in and out and the long waits we heard about at the restaurants turned us off. There is plenty of food at the buffet (lots of reviews said there isn’t). My biggest complaint is no snacks, and no food at beach/pool area. The app and website say there is a beach grill but there is not. Hard with kids. This is absolutely NOT a 5-star resort, but Antigua is so beautiful, the weather is amazing, hard to be mad about some bumps and bruises in the room and bars running out of things.
