    JUST DONT BOOK HERE

This place SUCKS. SUCKS BAD. I’ve never in my life had a bad experience at an all inclusive resort until now. The staff is rude and it’s like you’re inconveniencing them any time you want to order a drink or anything at all. They never said good morning, hello, welcome. It’s blank stares like they don’t want to be there. The food is even worse. It’s reheated hospital food over and over again. It’s disgusting. We went to the Italian restaurant our second night and my husband ordered a gnocchi dish with cream sauce. We get the dinner and it’s just red sauce with burnt cheese. The cheese was so burnt it was black and the pasta was just stuck to the plate making it impossible to eat. I had to ask the waitress 4 times for a coke because she either forgot or didn’t choose to hear me over and over again. I ordered the meat lasagna which was also burnt and the meat tasted like feet. Didn’t eat that either. The next night we went to hunters steak house, we ordered the French onion soup, it arrived and had no cheese lol just the broth and onions. When we asked for cheese she just came with it out on a plate and dropped it into the bowl. With our bad experience at the Italian place, we decided to upgrade our meal and pay for the higher end steaks. We asked for the 40oz tomahawk steak which she had to run back and see if they had any. No they didn’t. So we settled for the Tbone. (It was the only option they had left) ordered it medium rare. I also got the New York strip so I can compare the two. When both arrived (one steak being $60 and the other being on the all inclusive menu) they were both the same steak. One was just bigger but tasted the exact same. They were both thin. Chewy. Overcooked. Nothing here is worth it. Even the upgrades. We settled for room service. I ordered the hamburger - hard as a rock, the jalepeno popper- the chewiest things I’ve ever tasted. And the grilled cheese which was 3 slices of bread and one layer of cheese lol the effort here is below anything else. I’m pretty sure they take the food that has not been eaten and reheat it over and over again because everything was either chewy or burnt to a crisp here. We saw cockroaches, one was dead in the lobby area and we saw it for the rest of the week because apparently no one cleans, mops or sweeps around here. All it takes is for one staff member to get rid of it so people don’t see it all week but then again it’s an inconvenience. The rooms are disgusting. Dirty. Nothing works. Lastly, this is what drove me to write this review because I felt bad all week but this was my breaking point. We booked an excursion. Paid over $300 to swim with the stingrays and go on a safari trip. We were looking forward to it! Pick up time was 9am. We get to the lobby around 845 - no truck. We wait until 9:20 - nothing. The front desk woman said, “don’t worry, the truck will come.” Waited a few more minutes, nothing. I walk back over to the excursion desk where I met with a woman (who was the nicest person I’ve met so far here) but she kept saying we don’t see anything for today. I bring up my confirmation number, the date, the proof. She calls her supervisor and APPARENTLY the girl who booked us originally overbooked everything and there was never a truck coming to pick us up. Overbooked?? We were the only people in the lobby so nothing at our hotel excursion wise was overbooked. The woman who was helping us then said “oh the woman tried finding you guys yesterday but couldn’t contact you.” We had our phone number written down, email, ROOM NUMBER listed on the information you could have called our room for crying out loud. But it’s a total lie because no one cares at this resort. No one “tried” to contact us after paying $300+ for an excursion. What a waste of time. No one gives any effort here, it’s insane. Our plane leaves the next day so we can’t book another excursion but oh my god I couldn’t wait to go home. My advice? Shut the hotel down, everyone has been giving it 1 star reviews this week. Fire your staff. Start over or don’t start at all. I won’t even call this a resort but this HOTEL is an absolute hell hole.

Stunning beach, inconsistent service, Diamond Club not worth the upgrade

Royalton Antigua is a beautiful resort set in a protected cove, which makes the beach calm, clear, and far more enjoyable than other parts of the island that experience heavier waves. The private beach setting is a major plus, offering a peaceful environment without vendor interruptions. The presence of overwater bungalows adds to the visual appeal, even for guests not staying in them. While the property markets itself as a five-star resort, the overall experience does not consistently meet that standard. The grounds are attractive, but service quality varies widely. Some staff members are warm, attentive, and clearly enjoy their roles, while others appear disengaged or inconvenienced by basic guest requests. This inconsistency significantly impacts the overall experience. Food across the resort was acceptable but unremarkable. In several instances, the buffet offered better flavor and more authentic Caribbean dishes than the specialty restaurants. For example, the Caribbean cuisine at the buffet was more flavorful and true to the region than the Caribbean restaurant itself, which was surprisingly underwhelming. Both the Caribbean restaurant and the steakhouse are part of the Diamond Club dining options, yet neither delivered a premium experience. At the steakhouse, despite an 8:00 p.m. reservation, entrees did not arrive until close to 10:00 p.m., causing us to miss a highly anticipated evening show. Other tables experienced similar delays. While our server was polite and apologetic, the kitchen delays were excessive, unexplained, and lacked proactive communication. The Diamond Club upgrade did not feel worth the additional cost. Diamond Club includes designated dining venues, seating areas, and butler service; however, execution fell short. Butler service rotated due to scheduled days off. One butler was proactive and helpful, while the other added little beyond what the concierge desk already provides. In practice, the service felt more symbolic than functional, assisting with a few reservations that could easily be handled through the concierge or app. The Royalton app was also unreliable. Room service orders placed through the app never arrived, making it difficult to rely on a feature meant to enhance convenience. Diamond Club benefits were poorly communicated. I only learned after returning home that there was a Diamond Club breakfast option, which was never mentioned during the stay. Diamond Club beach seating offered inconsistent service, with limited staff presence and no food service, which does not align with expectations for a premium tier. Operational issues were noticeable throughout the stay. Restaurant flow, front-of-house coordination, and guest communication often felt disorganized. Simple hospitality fundamentals, such as greeting guests, acknowledging wait times, and setting expectations, were frequently missing. Elevator outages, reportedly a recurring issue, were also observed and created accessibility concerns for guests with mobility challenges. The entertainment team deserves special recognition. They worked incredibly hard and consistently delivered engaging, high-energy shows. The live band that performed afterward was particularly impressive, and the lead singer was excellent. This was one of the highlights of the stay. Overall, Royalton Antigua is a visually beautiful resort with a calm beach environment that works well for families, particularly those traveling with children. However, I would not recommend upgrading to the Diamond Club, as it does not currently provide sufficient value or a true luxury experience. If visiting, I would suggest booking a standard room, enjoying the buffet, and setting expectations accordingly. I also want to note that some of the concerns shared here are not isolated incidents. After my stay, I reviewed past guest feedback and saw similar themes raised consistently over multiple years, particularly around service execution, dining delays, and Diamond Club value. I share this feedback constructively, as the property has real potential, but recurring issues suggest an opportunity for stronger operational oversight and clearer guest communication.
