Good in places but not sufficient to counter poor overall food/service quality.

The hotel had some good points, but not enough to compensate for the poor elements. Good parts - Spa excellent, good service , relaxing massages, beach good but please repair beach umbrellas and stop people putting down towels to reserve sun beds, particularly as often you never saw the people using the sun beds, snack bars OK with limited menus, room cleaning very good, pick up from airport to hotel & hotel to airport OK, site grounds well looked after. Poor parts - waiting to be seated at main restaurant, assume this is to ensure client bills included meals taken, & if table clearing was carried out quickly & efficiently this would reduce the wait for people wanting to sit outside. On most mornings and evenings there were tables vacated but not cleared. Main restaurant food was limited in appeal, particularly as hot plates didn't seem to be switched on & nobody seemed to have the job of checking if food trays were full or empty. On several occasions I asked for hot fries ( trays either empty or fries cold) which resulted in a staff member finding me in the restaurant with a plate of freshly cooked fries after a short wait. Staff seemed to often have the view that I'm paid to do this, don't know about anything else'. The quality of food in the other restaurants was OK except for the steak restaurant where, after a 40 minute plus wait we were served with cold main courses. I complained & the dishes were taken away. Unfortunately when they were replaced mine was still cold and whilst my partners was hot she had a bad upset stomach all that night. Booking for the other restaurants was OK except part way through our holiday a number of large parties arrived (8 and 10 people plus) and block booked tables which resulted in us not being able to book a table at any restaurant other than one offer for 9.00pm. Champaign or Bucks Fizz for breakfast is no replacement for prompt service and hot food. Best meal was the outdoor (bar-b-q?) meal as the food containers had lit candles underneath them to keep food warm. The bar ran out of Havana Club rum part way through Service at the 'pool bar' was hit & miss, priority seemed to be people in the pool! Service on the beach was OK if the staff were going around when you wanted a refill. Towels on sun beds annoying as often the people who put their towels down to secure a bed often did't turn up! Solution is simple, remove towels from beds if nobody is using the beds. Put new tops on beach umbrellas, to many with frames but no covers.

It was a relaxing celebration for our 20th wedding Anniversary.

The view off the bay is stunning. The pool and beach area is nice. Our room and the facilities were very clean. It’s generally quiet which we liked. The service was generally ok and the food needs serious work, it was very blah esp for a Caribbean island.

    Great time at Royalton!

The staff at the Royalton were very helpful, polite and kind. Always aiming to please! Guest services were most helpful when required. Buffet food options great.Food at Hunters rest. was excellent--flank steak was delicous (we went 2xs). Grazie rest. was good too. They need to improve the app to make rest. reservations as its tedious to wait in line by the patio outside the buffet area. Not sure why buffet breakfast was always running out of bacon? Activities of sip/paint, aquafitness, complimentary use of kayaks, SUPs all great. Never a shortage of loungers at the beach, although sometimes not enough sun umbrellas. Unfortunately we were in an "adjoining room" and there was a family with a kid that screamed all night! Complained on Monday, infant screamed Monday, not Tuesday, Wed and they checked out Thursday. Understand this is a family resort, not many families so suggested they put families all on same floor or at min. try to avoid placing "couples"with out children next to rooms with kids!.

Enjoyed the holiday, but a few significant niggles stopped it from being top class.

]Enjoyed our stay. Location was beautiful, facilities good, and a good choice of food in the several restaurants, if you could book!! This was the biggest gripe of the week. The online App was useless, and we could not make a booking using it for the entire week. Complaints to staff were acknowledged, but the fault was not rectified in the 10 days we were there. To book a restaurant, you had to queue daily at a manned desk, often for 30 minutes plus, often to be told when you got to the front that there was no availability when you wanted it! The whole process was lengthy and time consuming, with staff having to consult several hand written sheets before confirming a booking. We had to queue on 5 separate occasions to finally get any bookings, and then had to take what they had, rather than be able to choose time and location. Not the hassle free experience that we would have expected! Food in the speciality restaurants was fine, but not 5 star standard I felt. Staff at the resort were fine on the whole, friendliness and cheerful greetings were the norm, but there were a few exceptions at front of house, where the warmth of the reception was distinctly lacking, especially at the restaurants. Service in the main restaurant was not always attentive, and top ups of both wine and coffee were rarely offered, much hand waving was required to get a refill! Staff seemed to be more concentrated on clearing tables rather than serving customers, understandable at busy times, but this was the norm in our experience Shortages seemed to be a bit of an issue at times. There was no bacon on several occasions at breakfast, nor orange juice on 2 occasions, 2 breakfast staples that should surely be always available. A mention for the the omelette station which was particularly good, and very efficient. Cutlery comes pre-wrapped, knife, fork and teaspoon. To eat soup, cereal, or fruit, you had to ask for a bigger spoon, or find your own. Once there was no ladle for the soup tureen, a minor thing, but it took a staff member a full 5 minutes to find one! The variety on offer in the self service restaurant was good, as was the food generally, but not perhaps the to the 5 star level that I would have expected. Beachside facilities were a little disappointing. Main complaint was the lack of umbrellas. There were always plenty of sunloungers, but on most days it was way too hot to sit without shade for any length of time, more shade required, in whatever form! A minor irritant was the hideous, repetitive piped music played at all time throughout the resort. I would understand this at the pool area, but it would have been really nice to have a few quiet areas around the resort where you could sit without having to listen as well!! Summing up, we enjoyed our stay, but I don't feel the whole experience was up to the 5 star level that we expected from the rating

    Enjoyable stay with fixable inconsistencies

We spent a week at Royalton Autograph, Antigua, in late January, booking Diamond Club (with butler service) and swim up rooms. The resort is set in a beautiful location and offers a relaxing atmosphere, with many elements we genuinely enjoyed. Diamond Club check-in was mostly smooth, although we experienced initial teething issues with room key wristbands and WiFi setup for equipment other than phones. These were resolved, but did take a little time. Our swim-up rooms were comfortable and well presented, with all the amenities that you'd expect, though the lack of sunlight on block 11 meant our swim-ups weren’t usable. We did request a room move on arrival, but were told that because of our bed configurations - 2 queen size beds in each room - that wouldn't be possible. Request accommodation in Block 10 if you want to use the swim-up and have a lake view as advertised on the hotel website. Dining options were varied, with several restaurants to choose from. However, there were issues with product availability during our stay, including basics such as coffee and bagels. Only once were we told "we have everything on the menu". Grazie Italian stood out for flavour and consistency; service in all venues could be slow. When we asked for hot sauce in the Caribbean restaurant, a catering size bottle of Tabasco was put on the table. The buffet offered a good range of food, including freshly cooked to your order, though the seating process was inconsistent. We particularly enjoyed the Chef 2 Go beach food stall for quick, tasty snacks. The beach and pool areas were clean, spacious, well maintained and never short of loungers, umbrellas, or towels. Diamond Club beach drinks service was slower than expected, but did come with a smile. Beach cabanas are available at an additional cost and includes service (about once an hour). Evening entertainment is variable, but we really enjoyed the Friday night DJ set. Rooms were comfortable and serviced daily. A late maintenance issue (water dripping through bathroom lighting) required a room move, which meant two of our party fully packing suitcases an evening earlier than planned, but resulted in getting the anticipated room view. Butler service was worthwhile, with Shanice and Zo genuinely trying to enhance our stay. Diamond Club checkout was efficient, with continued access to facilities until departure. Overall, Royalton Autograph is a lovely resort in a great setting. With a little more consistency, it could deliver a luxury experience. Tips: • Request accommodation in Block 10 when booking if you want a swim-up room with lake view and sunlight. • Bring an insulated cup for beach drinks. • For dining, Grazie Italian was our most reliable choice for flavour. • Try the Chef 2 Go stall near the beach for varied, quick, tasty food. • Pack mosquito repellent plugs for your room (there are screens on the balcony door but not on the main door).
