May 14, 2025Relaxing location for R&R with adults only pool and cold plunge spa day
The experiences I would recommend are the coffee tasting, the outdoor yoga, and the spa day experience (with a cold plunge!) if are you looking for a little R&R. From arrival through departure the level of care at the resort was felt by my husband and I at every turn. Mario greeted us at the front desk and offered a welcome beverage after a day of travel from the states, and Robert the manager checked in with us several times. Check in was smooth and easy, including a review of the resort's amenities. The beach right at the resort was quiet and serene with lounge chair service for drinks and food, Ingrid served us and was attentive and friendly. There were no sales people coming up to us as we lounged and there was a walk-on boat taking us to another beach if we so desired. I swam some laps in the wonderfully warm seawater every day. Especially since this is a resort with 5 restaurants and we ate well every night. Tyler, Avril and Luis at the Tapas bar were excellent, as was the female manager at Ostero (missed her name). We took advantage of the resort shuttle and visited a few of the other resorts in Papagayo and were very happy with our choice to stay with Andaz. The location is close to Liberia airport, and the guest rooms were large and comfortable. Earning Hyatt points doesn't hurt either. Highly recommend.

Perfect for a Family Getaway
Our stay at the Andaz in Costa Rica was fantastic. We traveled as a multigenerational family—grandparents, parents, and kids—and stayed in a three-bedroom residence that suited us perfectly. There was plenty of space for everyone, and we especially loved the upper terrace and private pool. The suite was thoughtfully equipped, and we appreciated the complimentary water, snacks, and non-alcoholic drinks. Having a washer and dryer in the unit was also a huge plus. Upon arrival, the staff set up a WhatsApp group for easy communication, and they responded quickly to any questions or requests. The service throughout was excellent. We were referred to Nomad Tours CR by multiple people to help us book our excursions—and we’re so glad we listened! Gabriel helped us arrange two amazing tours. Our absolute favorite was the La Leona Waterfall. It’s about a 1 hour and 10 minute drive, followed by a hike and a short swim that leads to a GORGEOUS waterfall where you can actually swim inside. 10/10 — we couldn’t recommend it more. DO IT! We also did a tour to Rincón de la Vieja, where we hiked around the volcanic craters, saw volcanic activity, visited the beautiful Oropendula Waterfall, soaked in hot springs, and enjoyed a delicious traditional Costa Rican lunch. We even arranged our airport transfers with Nomad Tours — they were very punctual and professional. Gabriel was instrumental in finding us the best experiences at great prices. You don’t pay him upfront—you pay on the day of the tour. We recommend using cash to avoid the 13% card fee.

i have never left a bad review anywhere. i think people should know before they waste their time off work and $. do not stay at here - third time is Costa Rica. The service at this hotel is horrible . amenities not available, management does not care about guests. Place is beautiful dont get me wrong. Stay someplace else

Low-key, quiet, and luxury
There are so many great things about this place! The service is welcoming, and the staff are responsive to any needs. Almost every time we sat by the pool or walked into a restaurant, someone was immediately there. They are very responsive on WhatsApp. They have amenities like sunscreen, water, and bug spray available throughout the property. The property is beautiful, w/ many trees and monkeys, for an authentic and peaceful atmosphere. We enjoyed having breakfast while watching the monkeys play in the trees! Golf carts are readily available for transportation around the property. The rooms are clean and beautiful. The food was good, especially the Chao Pescao. Overall, it truly felt luxurious! The concierge was extremely helpful in arranging activities and excursions! The excursions nearby via the “Explorers” were great, but the off-site options to further away places like the rainforest were very expensive. When we asked, the concierge provided us with an alternative (Mardigi Tours) which we LOVED as the rainforest was amazing and completely worth the drive. However, there are a few things to consider: This is a low-key and relaxing property, but it could also feel boring if you want to do more than lie by the pool. There is no pool bar or fun music. A few activities are on the calendar, but we never saw anything happening. For us, outside excursions were a must. It is also isolated from other areas of Costa Rica, risking the feeling that you didn’t fully see/experience the area. The Peninsula has no shopping and not even a hotel gift shop. We used a private driver for a day to take us to beaches and shopping off the Peninsula. The hotel doesn’t have a view of the beautiful sunset. You MUST experience this! When we asked, the concierge recommended Manglar at Prieta Beach Club for a sunset dinner, and it was so amazing that I wish we could have done it every day (the hotel provides free transport to the Manglar and other places on the Peninsula)! Prices are not cheap anywhere in Costa Rica, including Andaz – about the same as you’d pay in the US. Also, one note: They said the Hyatt Members breakfast is best at Ostra, but we much preferred Rio Bhongo, which is more buffet-style and has more options on their menu. Alberto at Rio Bhongo was fantastic!

Very nice hotel, lovely staff and great local wildlife
A lush hotel packed with surrounding wildlife. The complimentary watersports were great. A big shout out to Christian and Gustavo at Bhongo bar who looked after my son and I at happy hour each night! Very friendly and generous lads. Pura Vida!
