Excellent stay at the Canal!
We spent 5 nights here in Feb 2019 and had a wonderful stay! Our view of the Panama Canal from our 5th floor room was incredible. We were entertained day and night by huge freighters and ships going by our window. The staff is excellent, and very helpful when you need a taxi or dinner reservation. The breakfast exceeded our expectations by 200%. Made to order eggs, fresh breads and fruits, meats, sautéed veggies, cheeses, and nuts were all part of the daily assortment. The restaurant environment is very spacious and bright. The rooms are clean; the bedding is very comfortable and modern. The pool is quiet and relaxing. Very nice selection of "grab and go" food. Staff is always around cleaning and maintaining. Room had coffee maker, refrigerator, and a safe.

Enjoyable
Spent 5 nights at the Hiliday Inn at the Miraflores Locks at the Panama Canal. We could go up to a lounge at the 7th ffloor and watch the ships traveling through the locks. Quite a fantastic experience. We took a tour of the locks and were picked up at the hotel. This was part of the package. Getting picked up when we got off the plane with a driver with a sign was so easy. Picked up on time for return to airport.
The receptionists at the Holiday Inn helped us make plans for Gamboa Rainforest and the Old Town. They called the tour operators for us.
I recommend this hotel because it is so close to one of the locks.
We stayed at the Holiday Inn at the Panama Canal for a week as part of a package deal. All of the front desk staff were very helpful and informative. Especially Edgar and Marlon, who explained what a fair price for a taxi should be to different locations around Panama City, and helped us with other things too. My wife and I speak almost no Spanish, but enough hotel staff spoke some English so language was not a problem. The food in the hotel restaurant was very good, especially the breakfast buffet, which we had almost every morning. We ate dinner there only once, and it too was good. We felt the prices were reasonable for a hotel restaurant. Our room was of a decent size and clean. The beds were comfortable. The shower was very good. The housekeeping staff did their job well. The only negative is that some of the excursion companies will not come to this hotel to pick up and drop off their patrons. The one excursion we went on we had to take a taxi to a hotel in downtown Panama City to be picked up for the tour. The hotel does have a small pool but we didn't use it. The hotel does have a small washer and dryer which we used once. We only had to pay for the detergent. The dryer was not very efficient, perhaps because of its size and the number of clothes we put in. Overall, the price of this hotel was very good for everything we got.

Simple
The hotel was nice. Its not a fancy hotel like all the other hotels around the vicinity. It was very simple. The room was good. The only problem I had was you had to put your room card in a slot for the lights and Ac to work.
However, the service was good. The people were nice. Most of the workers knew how to speak English. Most of them didn't. So if you had to explain anything and your Spanish is not great like mine, you might have a problem with communication. The food was great, however, the dinner menu is the same every night. I actually wanted to see something different.
Overall, the hotel was great and simple. They have good wifi service. My daughter enjoyed that part. If you dont want anything extravagant, this is the place. I had a great night sleep too as well.

There are several beach close to the Holiday Inn. The closest one would be about a 10 minute drive. No, transfers to the beach are not included at the resort.
KristenCC
Very far from beaches. Buses and taxi are everywhere, but if beach is your primary interest, i would not recommend this hotel even though it is excellent in all other ways.
BellaFl16
The nearest beach we found from where we stayed was a short 15 min taxi ride followed by about a 20 min ferry ride to a beautiful island where u can zip line, horse back ride, snorkel or just relaxe and enjoy.

How expensive is the food? What types of food is available?5 answers

Janice
Food pricing is moderate in relation to US hotel equivalents, and is a mix of local Spanish cuisine and international dishes.
CCGreg
Breakfast food choices were excellent. All is beautifully presented and is delicious. Hot cereals, yogurt, all kinds of eggs including made-to-order, fruits, cheeses, ham, sausages, hot meats, pancakes, pastries, juice, selection of teas, coffee, etc. Food varied daily. Dinner entries were perfectly prepared and presented.
BellaFl16
The food is reasonably priced not to pricey at all. You can find anything from authentic Panamanian food to Dominos, McDonalds and Wendys. There is fine dining such as an Italian restaurant we went to and also local pubs where you can get chicken wings and French fries.
DanielleandNatetravel
Hi Janice,
The restaurant food is not cheap, but reasonable for a hotel. The breakfast buffet is very good. They have fresh fruit; eggs cooked your way; waffles; bacon, sausage, or some other meat; juice; good coffee; and usually some Panamanian/Latino pastries.
DUSTOFF
Very reasonable meals and "grab and go" food choices. Breakfast was included in my package.
Grab and go foods ranged from $1.50 to $10.00 and included sandwiches, salads, desserts, baked goods, etc.
