Nice resort with great service!

The resort is very nice! I loved the charm of this place... the second you pull up to the resort you can feel it! Check in was easy and the staff could not have been more kind. The resort actually feels small in comparison to other all inclusive resorts I’ve been to, which isn’t a bad thing. The rooms are nothing special, but provided everything we needed. Housekeeping did a great job and always restocked the mini fridge with plenty of beer, water, and sodas. The pool was awesome, but the service at the pool was even better! Victor made sure we always had a drink and could not have been nicer! The drink selection was decent... they had some premium liquors which was a nice surprise. They had daily pool activities, which we did not participate in, but everybody seemed to enjoy it and it provided to some great entertainment. The beach is beautiful with tons of palm trees and more than enough loungers for everybody. There was tons of seaweed, but that seems to be the new norm in the Riviera Maya. I can’t fault the resort on that... they seemed to try to keep it as clean as possible. Since there was so much seaweed, we spent all of our time at the pool, but that wasn’t a problem since the pool was great! The food was decent. I don’t expect much as far as food goes from an all inclusive resort. The buffet was standard. Nothing exceptional, but did the trick. The restaurants were surprisingly good. We tried the steak house, Krystal, the Japanese restaurant, and the Mexican restaurant. All were good except for the Mexican restaurant. The food at the Mexican restaurant was terrible, but the service was great. I wish they had more options for breakfast. The only option was the buffet and that gets old after 7 days. We also had room service one evening and their options leave a lot to be desired. Overall, it’s a great place for a vacation! I will definitely consider this place when I come back to the Riviera Maya.

Awsome awsome awsome vacation

What can I say except you won't get better service, food, entertainment and value for your money than the Riu Palace Riviera Maya. I have been to several all inclusive resorts in the Caribbean and this one tops the list. You may find newer or fancier resorts but none that takes better care of you. All the staff was great, always had a smile on and asking if they could help you in any way or get you anything. I've already decided I'm going back in Feb 2020. A word to any of you who are thinking of staying at this resort. The entire staff works their butt off for you yet I noticed very few people leaving a tip for a job well done. Tips are not included in the package price. It's amazing when you see the smile on a waiter or waitress, maid, bartender or anyone else who go's out of their way to make your stay a bit better and memorable. So if you go don't forget to show your appreciation leave a tip, it's not like you can't afford a few bucks.

Great Resort, but Awful smelly rooms

Positive:beautiful resort, great beach, great food and nice restaurants. Negative: ROOM SMELL! I have been in four different chains in the last 3 years, and this one had the worst room smell EVER!. It was a strong mix of mold, moisture, sewer and cleaning supplies. The smell infused into our clothes, shoes & suitcases etc. I have done laundry twice already and the clothes still stinks. Great times, but huge disappointment in the rooms.

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

Finding your perch on Cancun's white sandy shores with turquoise waves rolling in and sweet sunshine for days.

Toasting with a fun, fruity cocktail on the terrace. You'll feel like you've arrived, beach lovers.

Hitting the main pool and zeroing in on the main hub of activity - the swim-up bar. It does not disappoint.

RiuFit has all kinds of ways to get your burn on - backfit, aquagym, stretching and bums-legs-tums.

If you are struck by the late-night munchies, 24-hour room service will deliver straight to your room.

Striking up friendly competition with a few rounds of ping pong, volleyball or tennis (lit for night play.)

What We'd Change

Guys - pack some long pants for dining at night at the a la carte restaurants.

Why You Should Go

You're a short five minutes from the delicious Playa del Carmen - beaches, golf, watersports and shopping.

Dining at Chilis - the resorts steak and lobster restaurant, which is muy bueno.

You can hit all the Riu bars in Playacar. Go ahead - taste test all the tequilas. You're on vacay.

RiuLand is where the kiddos can play & craft the day away while you melt into stress- extraction at the spa.

If you're up exploring, the Mayan ruins and the Sian Ka'an reserve should top your list.

Riu's fab entertainment team is ready to perform - live music in the day and Broadway-esque at night.

Environmental Levy Fee
The Municipalidad of Solidaridad in the Rivera Maya is one of the most beautiful places in the Mexican Caribbean. Tourism has been instrumental in driving the economic and social development of the region. In an effort to continue to preserve, conserve and beautify the destination, the Municipality of Solidaridad has implemented a small environmental levy on visitors effective September 1, 2017. Hotels will collect 20 Mexican pesos per room per day on check out; the proceeds will be deposited in an environmental trust to fund local projects. The Municipalidad of Solidaridad thanks you for your understanding and support of this worthwhile endeavor. Thank you and enjoy your visit.
