Great Family Vacation
My wife and I had been to two other resorts, but this was the first time we had taken our four children (ages 8-15) with us. It was perfect! Our kids rarely agree on anything but they all said this was the best vacation ever!
The pools were huge, with lots of space for swimming and games. The restaurants had a stunning variety of great food. My kids even tried stuff they had never had before, like snails and sushi.
We had two rooms and they were comfortable, clean, and well-maintained. One of our favorite spots at the resort was the huge lobby. It had so many cool spaces to chill out, have a drink, and watch people.
The beach was amazing and endless. We spent a lot of time walking up and down the beautiful sand. The water was warm and gentle, but there were a lot of jellyfish in it. After we were all stung several times, we opted to stay on land.
The best thing about the Ocean Coral y Turquesa was the staff. They were friendly, helpful, and incredibly patient. When I ordered four drinks for my kids and forgot to say "without alcohol", the bartender in the lobby didn't even break his stride. He told me it was no problem and made four new drinks in no time. We loved the hardworking and hilarious waitstaff in the Casa del Mar buffet restaurant, especially Poncho, who hugged us on our last day!
This place is great!
I really wanted to like this resort. Great price range and beautiful layout. I wanted quiet so I spent most of my time at the privilege section. Some of the service was great. Jose Luis the beach concierge, Jesus and Angel as servers. I also understand that things tend to happen and I usually just go with the flow but it was a pattern of inconsistent service, some of it very poor that would keep me from coming back. Some examples: sitting down at breakfast at the buffet and after 45 minutes still no offer of juice, coffee or any other beverage. Reservations at 8 pm (only for privilege guests) and not seated until 9 when there was only one other table with people still dining. Had to remind waiter at Italian to bring my bread even though he had already served tables next to me who came in later. Even checkout. Contact for bell boy. After 40 minutes took my suitcase on my own to the front since no one showed up.
Overall, a nice resort but for me service makes all the difference. For the price range there are better choices available.
The place is beautiful but what makes this place more beautiful is its workers and the taste of Mexico in their meals, although there is a variety for all tastes.

Is the beach rocky?12 answers
8 years, 105 months ago

This resort has a white sand beach, but there are also coral formations so there is the possibilty for coral to wash up on the shore.
JenCC
Not at all. It was very nice.
burton98
Not at all
stat
No, it was sandy. We stayed at a nearby hotel a few years earlier and the beach was very much a coral reef beach, but this beach was sandy. There was a lot of seaweed, and no shells at all.
Janna13
not a rock (or seashell) on it!
lduha
Not Rocky but does not have the beautiful turquise water like other parts of Mexico.
kelrobhinds
No it's beautiful soft beaches on Paradise Island.
Sundai
no rocks...little waves...just beautiful
joweeep
The beach is not rocky - nice white sand. There is a lot of seaweed washed up on shore, but does not interfere with your ability to walk along the beach or swim. The water drops off fairly quickly but you can still wade out about 30-40 feet before it reaches your waist. Gentle waves on the beach because it's protected by the reef about 1/2 mile out.
RockyMtnSunseeker
The beach was pure powder. I live in Miami and its nicer than South Beach by far!!!
acpo2000
No - it is very fine, powdery white sand. Seaweed does wash up daily, but the resort removes it from the beach.
Nashvegasduo
no the beach was not rocky, and in the water it was nice and sandy too! no problems with rockiness like up in cancun

How is the food? I have heard bad reviews that the food is horrible

BarryNJ
I never stayed at this resort. it ooked nice from the outside though.

This resort offers 7 restaurants to choose from with the standard all-inclusive plan and none of them require reservations. The dining options include everything from Asian, to American, to Italian cuisines. With this much variety it would be hard to be unsatisfied.
JenCC
I am a fairly picky eater but found there to be plenty of options for food and didnt starve on vacation. However, I cannot say I gained weight it was that good but I didnt go hungry. There was always something you could find and at dinner if we visited the al la carte restaurant and there wasnt anything on there I found I liked, it was nice to know we could go to the buffet and find something there.
burton98
We found the specialty restrauants offered very good selections. The buffett breakfast was good with them making on demand omelets and eggs to order. The rest of the buffett food was ok.
stat
The food was not good, there was no real variety. We expected to have some wonderful seafood since staying at a beach resort, and the only seafood or steak options were priced above and beyond the 'all inclusive', and the price was right around $40 for a small lobster tail or a small steak. The food was great at our last resort, 5star presentation as well.
Janna13
food was very good for an all inclusive.......fresh, tasty, well cooked. we ate at the buffet, the beach buffet, and 3 of the specialty restaurants and all was good.
lduha
Not worse or better than other all-inclusives I've been to. Some are quite good like the Villa Marina and others quite horrible like the italian restaurant!
kelrobhinds
The breakfast and lunch buffets had some decent things as long as you weren't too picky, some things were pretty bad though. Could've been better overall. Snack bars were open all day and had typically junk food/fast food. Didn't eat at the buffet for dinner (wouldn't), but tried most of the restaurants open only for dinner. They were much better in quality and service.
DetroitSMX
Food was amazing! And, the finer resturants no extra charge, first come first serve basis. I talked to alot of people in airport who hated there resort. They could not give you enough, and if you could not find what you like, I can't even imagine that!!
Trudi
The food was okay but nothing to rave about. However, if you go with the Privilege Package eat ther every night. The food was 4-Star.
dholiver409
the food was nice, the buffet had alot of fish, but there are other a la carte resturants, like an italian, japanese with a hibachi show, and a place for simple steak and potatoes! also u can get regular burgers and fries by the pool! i loved the food...
joweeep
I found the food provided at the main meals to be good. Certainly comparable to other resorts at which I have stayed.
The "restaurant" choices were fine. I think some people expect to get "real" Italian or Japanese at an all-inclusive resort in Mexico. (Which I think is an inherently flawed expectation.) I heard both positive and negative reviews about the same "restaurants," so I think it becomes a matter of taste and expectation.

How expensive was the ground transportation, from airport to resort?11 answers
8 years, 104 months ago
Karey
$40 dollars max. They charge you about $40 to the hotel, and we payed $32 back to the airport.
Sundai
Not sure was included in package, which was very convienent!
Trudi
$80 USD for round trip vouchers through Olympus Tours.
GoBuckeyes
Our shuttle was included in the "all inclusive" deal, however the resort stated a taxi to Cancun airport would be about $50 - $70 USD.
Nashvegasduo
we paid $120 round trip private van. I think it held up to 6 people.
2timesayear
$45.00 per person round trip. It's a real good deal.
SGTMAJ
When we booked our trip, transportation to the resort and back to the airport at end of trip were both included with the trip cost. Ask the call taker about that before booking for sure.
GMAF
the airport shuttel to the resort was included in the cheap caribian package, both ways.
if you take a taxi it would be about 20.00
MECAVANAGH
Use the transfers offered by CheapCaribbean.
Pete1
This was included in our package.
ajwoods
From the airport or just going into Cancun cost about $15/person one-way for a taxi.

Is the Privilege Service worth the extra $300+11 answers
It seems just for easy check in/out, premium drinks, priority seating at resaraunts I need to pay $300+. What are your thoughts?
8 years, 103 months ago
The Rock
We paid for the upgrade. It is pricey, but we found it to be worth it. The dinner reservations were a MUST unless you like eating real late, and the premium drinks were nice. It sucks you have to pay extra for this, for sure, but If you don't mind parting with the cash, do it. Worth it in the long run to make a better trip.
GMAF
we didn't do it, and didn't miss a thing. We stayed 5 nights, and had two nice restaurant nights- Mexican and steakhouse (not the extra upgrade one) both were very good. I'm not a picky drinker- pina coladas and mudslides kept me going for much of the day, and never once missed upgraded liquor! If you're into clubbing, the one disco requires something additional, but between the buffets, a few nice meals, nightly shows, and the same incredible beach and pools, we saved our money and still had a top-notch vacation.
turtleboy
Something you'll want to think about is when you're traveling - if it's busy season the check in / check out and priority reservations would be great to have, as well as the seating on the beach. If those things don't concern you, the resort is beautiful without the extra service.
JenCC
didn't seem like it, unless you are their for a honeymoon
wzrfan
I asked myself the same question prior to booking my trip to OCT for the first time. True, you do get the perks of dinner reservations, fast check-in, butler service, in-room jacuzzi, Privilege lounge and private beach access, but you also receive staff that goes above and beyond serving you. If you do not have the extra $300 budget, then opt out; however, if you do, I believe it is worth it. We also received a lobster dinner. I noticed non-privilege guests waiting during dinner time for reservations and complaining. They were very perturbed. We received reservations without a problem on any night/time we desired. Consider it like VIP in a lounge or concert you would go to. Would you like the extra care, attention, and service? If so, it's worth it!
LiveBold
I would say its not worth it, just returned from a 7 night trip and did not pay for Privilege. Our check in was very easy, did not once have to wait for a restaurant (but we did get there very shortly after they opened), and i am not sure what the premium drinks are, because I was able to get Captain, Smirnoff, Skyy, etc without a Privilege upgrade.
Jules532
No it is not the only difference is the liquor and that is it....Crown Royal is privilege, however Captain Morgan is not...not much difference to me.
Justus10
I was completely fine WITHOUT the Privilege perk. Save your money and do some excursions with that $300. The regular liqour was all at LEAST average stuff and good enough for me. Restaurants seating was same as Privileged guests so I don't know what that's about.
JimDiesel
I would have to say no it's not worth it. We had no wait for check in or check out. Not sure what premiun drinks are included but I asked for Captain Morgan rum instead of the bottom shelf stuff and it was included in mine. I never saw priority seating at any of the resturants. The Japanese steak house was the only one that was a little hard to get into because they only did reservations on each day at 6:00.
dcinpa
We didn't do it. At first I thought I wanted to, because I wanted an ocean view room, and even though I don't drink much, I wanted my drinks to be GOOD drinks. However, we changed our minds. We decided it wasn't worth it. We got to see the beach all the time and didn't spend much time in the room anyway. We did not find the drinks to be watered down; they just weren't the best quality, but that didn't matter. We were there in mid-June and the hotel was busy but not super busy, so the waits at the restaurants weren't bad. Ten minutes for the Japanese one and about twenty for the Italian. My boyfriend didn't mind waiting anyway because he would buy Cuban cigars from the vendor outside and smoke them while we waited!
We had no problems at check in. I had requested a king bed when we made our original reservations and was surprised that we were not offered that. So, I asked for a king, and they gave us one. I was polite and friendly to the front desk staff, and that may have made a difference. We saw "privilege" guests being rude and were very turned off by that.
We would go back again and still not pay the extra.
Ava86
I talked with several people checking out and asked the very same thing.....their words were NO WAY! So I did not pay the extra. If would have meant better food quality, I would have paid!
BigDaddy76016
Not worth it at all!! It really depends if you like to drink top shelf liquor, which Im not a drinker at all. They have domestic liquor like the tequillas of course, long island ice teas, bahama mama, daquiris, pina colodas and so forth.

Is there nightly entertainment?11 answers
8 years, 102 months ago
donna
Yes. Royal Solaris Cabo has a theatre inside their hotel. I was there for 5 nights and they had some type of show every one of those nights (magic show, dance show, carribean night, Mexican show, etc.). They were all very entertaining. They also have activities after the theater shows out in the lobby or outside. They have activities at the pool during the day. The kids at the resort loved the entertainment as did the adults.
75Degrees
There is nightly entertainment by the hotel staff, but we didn't participate. We chose to walk the beach at night or relax in the room.
Ava86
Every night.
Pete1
The Bravo staff was great!
BigDaddy76016
Yes, there were shows in the theater and sometimes things going on in the lobby every day and night.
dmdohmen
Yes, but I think there could have be more and they were not as impressive as other resorts that I have stayed at.
Boop
Yes. They post a schedule daily. Shows in the theater, parties at the bars, shows on the patios, kids stuff, and music in the lobby.
Staceven
yes there is nitely entertainment. theatre, dancing, lots of activities.
diaschm
Every single night!!:)
LadyM514811
there are things going on at the resort all evening but they do a very poor job of letting you know the details.
lillin
We didn't attend them, but they have a small theater with a crew that puts on nightly shows at around 9:30PM. They do imitations of superstars like MJ. Also, like comedy shows. They have a DJ that plays music at around like 10PM. They have things for Teens at their Teen Club.
But they highly promote this excursion called Coco Bongo which is going there and it's like a show that imitates stars like Lady Gaga and you dance. It's like a club.
NeedAVacay
Yes, they have a number of shows and kareoke another night and a "sudo" disco out by the pool bar. It is all low key. Each time we went there were families and children there. If you are looking for nightlife and entertainment go downtown to Cancun and hit the clubs and bars. You can take a taxi. Great during the day or night.
ALso the hotel has a nightly shuttle that takes you to a certain club for a fee. You get drinks and the ride to and from.

are there water activities to do at the resort like kayaking, snorkeling?11 answers

Not inside the resort
Mono
Kayaking and katamaran at resort. Great excursions for snorkeling, dolphin swimming, ziplines, etc.
SusanandJeff
Yes both BUT there right there on the edge of the hotel. Nothing special. You have to pay extra for the better stuff that takes you out into the ocean but well worth it
dolphins
The activities are not AT the hotel, but the hotel can book the excursions for you if you don't book them while booking. Many of the excursions will pick you up at the resort. My husband and I did snorkeling, ATV on the beach, sunset cruise, and zip-lining/repelling. The excursion people picked us up for the ATV and the zip-line tours. We took the resort shuttle into Cabo for the snorkeling and sunset cruise.
75Degrees
The resort does offer kayaking and sailing, but the snorkeling is limited to lessons in the pool. There are excursions you can take for snorkeling, which we did. We went to Maroma Park and loved it!
Ava86
If you can find anyone to help....they do have snorkel equip. POOR SERVICE
BigDaddy76016
You can book snorkeling right off their beach. There were several tour guides available everyday at the resort to book off-resort activities.
dmdohmen
Yes. Kayaking, snorkeling and wind surfing.
Staceven
yes there are lots of water sports.
diaschm
tons - not enough time in the day to do everything
Melaylay01
they charge you for everything at the resort, you can only use the kayaks for 30 minutes, the snorkeling is more expensive to do from the resort, cheaper to book an excursion with the tour guy at front lobby, it includes the spinnaker with the snorkeling and is better snorkeling than at the resort.

What is the dress code in dining in these restaurants?11 answers

Casual. Men must wear pants & shoes. No shorts. Women in dresses or pants. No hot pants shorts.
Pete1
Casual. Nice shorts are fine for the men. Women a pant suit, dress or shorts are fine. Many dressed up, I didn't.
Raiderguy
Very strict, Long pants for guys and no open toed shoes for guys. I was told nice dress shorts due to the heat would be OK from CC.com....not the caseI had to hire a taxi, 50 dollars and go buy pants!
BigDaddy76016
Women can wear what they want, but if a man is coming, please have him to bring some nice comfortable slacks. The Italian spot will not allow men in with shorts.

The fine dining restaurants require pants and collared shirts for the guys (no shorts or t-shirts). The ladies can wear skirts or pants.
dmdohmen
woman cannot wear flip flops. Men must be in long pants no shorts
anthC
Before I went, there were 2 restaraunts that required closed-toe shoes and no shorts for men. No shorts and flip-flops for women. After we arrived they told us that the dress code had been changed. Basically it was no beachy flip-flops, swimsuits/cover-ups, or cut-off shorts. Dressy flip flops were okay.

we changed for dinner and dressed up for fun.

NO wet bathing suits, but breakfast and lunch is relaxed. We chose to dress for dinner in the dining rooms, we never ate dinner at the buffet, it might be more relaxed, but with so many really nice "themed" restaurants at night, it was nice to look nice.

is alcoholic beverages included in the all-inclusive?11 answers
They only said mini bar, like beer and soft drinks are included in the all-inclusive. Is alcoholic beverages like cocktails margarita and wine included by any chance? Is there any other things that i should know when I arrive there? any warnings or recommendations on what to do there? thanks! :)
8 years, 102 months ago
shrimpy
Yes all alcohol is included. They have the best tropical drinks and the pool bars offer whatever you want! They rooms have 5 types of liquor and cold beer in the fridge along with mixers.
ajwoods
it depends on the resort you choose. We stayed at the Majestic elegance Punta Cana and everything was included except wine from the wine list. The house wine was good adn it was included
MeganB
Yes all alcohol is included. The fridge in your room is stocked with soda, beer and water, but you can order anything you want and they will put in your room. ( i.e. vodka ( they give you a whole bottle). I highly recommend the Martini Bar!
tennis
Yes, all drinks, cocktails, coffee bar, etc was included. The only items not included were a few things in the fine dining restaurants (certain steaks & lobster). Warning, the fine dining restaurants do not take reservations and you must have long pants (no shorts for the guys).
dmdohmen
The Mini bar only had Water, soft drinks and Beer. All alcoholic beverages are included in the all inclusive available at any of the bars or restaurants as well as waiters/waitresses coming around.
anthC
Your "mini-bar" in your room includes beer and soda. Your other drinks are obtained at the bars throughout the resort and are included in your package.
Debster
They have bars in the lobby, by the pool, service at the beach, in restaurants, swim up bar. You can drink starting at 10am each day, all drinks in smaller plastic clear cups, you can get 2 at a time, will give you bottled water when ever you want. Only have 1 beer selection, Corona, with a lime! You can bring bigger plastic cups and they will fill them for you.
Mmayes12
ALL drinks are included. Cocktails, shots, wine, beer, coffee, sodas and water!
Staceven
all drinks are included! we thought it was only beer and soft drinks but all mixed drinks are included as well.
nickname1234
Yes, the bars are included! I am a rum drinker and they were very helpful with different drink ideas! If you like rum as well, you must try the Miami Vice. It is half Pina Colada and half strawberry daiquiri! Awesome!
Just grab a drink, sit by the pool or at the beach and relax! We were only there for a short time so we did not go on any excursions, but we are looking forward to going to see the Mayan Ruins on our next visit.
johnniebean
Yes, alcoholic beverages are included (cocktails, beer, wine etc.) The hotel provide their own enteraintment at night. The hotel also has shuttles available that take you shopping (make reservations as soon as you can). There are numerous excursions to pick (not included in the all-inclusive) There is always something to do.

Ocean Coral Turquesa, how is the beach? How's the crowd?11 answers
How does the color of the ocean/water compare to Cancun and Tulum? We are a young couple 25 years old. How's the crowd and the entairtainment for young couples?
Thanks
8 years, 102 months ago
Qbanaza24
The water can be a bright blue, but it can also be a tad murky depending on the tides, weather, etc. Sometimes the water does have some sea grass in it, which makes it not as crystal clear as it normally is.
There is nightly entertainment on the property, but it can depend on the individual guests at theresort at the time and how many people are participating, etc. There are usually shows in the theater and Karaoke most nights as well.
KristinCC
I havent been personaly but some friends of mine came back the week of the fourth and didnt like Ocean Coral Turquesa, Beds were terriable the smell of sewer and spider bit and Sand Fleas. They had two 19-20 year old with them and they were pretty bored. Hope this helps
Cofer
The water is a little murkier than at Cancun or Tulum because this area is protected by a reef. The reef is protected by an environmental agency and they are not allowed to spray poison to kill seaweed like they do in Cancun. It's not bad, just more seaweed. The water color is still beautiful.
They have a club-like party every night. The pools during the day are awesome fun too. There are lots of young couples.
Staceven
I have not been to either of those locations so I really can not say. However, there was a storm brewing when we were there so the water was not as blue and clear as I had hoped. You would be very satisfied with the degree of entertainment they provide. There were all age groups represented at the resort and the 'adults only' pool was perfect when we wanted to get away form the noise and activity of the other pools.
johnniebean
The water isn't as clear as Cancun or Tulum, but it is still a great beach to be at.
There are a lot of families and not a lot of night time adult activities. I would recommend an adult all inclusive.
Caballero76
you will have a wonderful time. there are activities for young people. salsa dancing, kayaking, sailing, snorkeling, 4 great poolsand a large white powder beach. nitely entertainmet and great food. lots of people your age from all over the world. have fun!!
diaschm
Having never been to either of those places, I really can't answer your question, but when we were there, the sea was a little choppy, so the water was a little sandy right at the shore. As to the crowd and entertainment, there was something for everyone. A LOT of young adults your age, but no matter what the age, everyone was so friendly! I would go back in a heartbeat!
PKC59
The beach was beautiful. Tiki huts, staff taking drink orders, beach volleyball, and soft sand. Didn't have a problem getting a chair (in August). The water was very warm and clear, there was some seaweed, etc on the beach, but we traveled in hurricane season and the water got a little rough, so that could be why. I am 24 and I traveled with two friends and we had a great time. The resort is split 50/50 between a young, fun crowd and couples. We had a great time at the resort - plenty to drink and parties at night. You HAVE to go to Playa del Carmen - Coco Bongo was the best part of the trip. The resort offers a very fun, safe bar hopping trip which was worth every penny.
Melaylay01
Tulum is crystal clear and very blue. We were there for an excursion to the ruins, so we saw that. The beach at Ocean Coral Turquesa was brown and green, kinda like the Gulf. We tried snorkeling at their beach and visibility was terrible. The water was warm though. Tulum's water is much better.
NeedAVacay
The color of the water at Ocean Coral does not compare to Cancun. The beach at Ocean has alot of debri, water seems dirty and no waves. The better beaches are in Cancun. Beautiful and lots of waves and clear water for snorkeling.
Young couples should go here only if they want to relax and unwind. The night life at the resort is low key. The pool bar only stays open until 1:00am. The entertainment staff trys to engage people but you would be better off getting a taxi and going into Cancun for the best nightlife ever! You will love Cancun. We went to Cancun for years and had a blast. Now we are looking to just relax. Wait until your in your 40's or 50's- then go to Riviera Maya.
beet19
the water was a little murkey due to hurricane but no seaweed. the entertainment was ok they always have something going on and the crowd was mostly a party type crowd

Children friendly? What activities for kids?6 answers
7 years, 94 months ago
Ray
Upon reviewing the resort information posted on our website, Ocean Coral & Turquesa stands out as a vacation oasis because kids stay free. The resort makes sure they have the time of their lives. In addition to a children's pool, the resort has both a Kids' and Teen Club. At Mini Club Daisy, kids 4-12 can set off on treasure hunts, play water sports, and put on shows. The older kids stay busy at the Teen's Club, with beach volleyball and kayaking. They can even get their daily video-game fix thanks to the five gaming stations.
MariaCC
They have Daisy Club for kids and teens that organizes activities however we didn't get a chance to try it. Through out the day the staff puts on ongoing activities for kids like contests and classes. We were stuck in the lobby for two days because of rain and not once have I heard either one of my kids say "Mom I am bored"
Kate0620
they have a kids program, but as most all inclusives go, its a booze fest for most guests. I saw about 2 kids the whole week i was there.
ErinE
We have 23 months daughter. Was not noisy, because it is school year, but they have activities for the kids over there.
Rytorasa
Yes, very. We were not traveling with children but they have a wonderful camp that includes the children in their show one night!! It was great!! Also a lot of kid friendly activities but not overwhelming or annoying to people traveling without children.
Tatumnala
Yes! They have their own pool and everything and babysitting! Very nice for the children! Gives parents a break!

How do you upgrade to the privilege level and how much is it?4 answers
7 years, 93 months ago
Christina
To upgrade to the Privilege level you will need to select the Privilege Junior Suite when choosing your room category. The additional price will be listed in the reservation during your booking process and is based in the number of nights you are staying.
MeganCC
At the check in desk or on line, at theOC web site. Cost is about 75.00 extra a day.
Higrader
you have to buy the package, it ranges anywhere from $7,000 to $39,000 depending on the package...its a 15-25 year vacation deal, not just a "for this trip" thing...they will describe it, get you wasted on top shelf booze and try to convince you what a deal it is. the more you resist the better the price gets, talk an hour to "think" come back with a no and they make the deal even better. just keep saying no and by the end you will have a great package, assuming you want to spend $7,000. USD for 15 years of vacations.
ErinE
Don't do it! We did not have privledge and did not see the point with the guests that had it. I believe it's $60 per day per person. So what if they give you "Premium" alcohol......cheap stuff works just as well. The ONLY thing that would be nice is if you are traveling at busier time of year. We went in late Sept which is off-season. When you have "Privledge" you get to put your name on the list before the others. We never not one time had a problem getting into a restaurant , longest wait was 20 minutes.

Are the excursions worth it? Which ones did you enjoy/would you recommend?7 answers
Thanks!!

The excursions are great and also a wonderful way to split up your trip and do something different. There are a variety of excursions available which are guaranteed to appeal to a variety of interests. If you love the water a snorkeling/sailing excursion might appeal to you. If you love history and culture you may enjoy the Chichen Itza or Tulum excursions. If you need assistance or require more detailed information on the excursions we offer on our website please feel free to call one of our experienced Beach Experts.

Xel Ha is a must! I have been twice and you will not find better snorkling with an abundance of other activities to do as well.
CaribbeanLove11
Yes, tours are worth it, you are in Cancun, do as much, or as little, as you wish. We did Xplor, loved it, will do it again! Not much you can't do
We rent a car and go somewhere pretty much every day. The cost of tours is high, but we have traveled the carrbean east to west, and the Yucatan is the most resonsbly priced. We booked xplor on line, payed 95.00 for it at the gate, they charge 130.00, have fun!
Higrader
The snorkling trip right off the beach of the hotel was the best! They took us out for two hours and gave us personal attention. We took 4 snorkling trips and this was by far the best and the cheapest! No thrills such as eats or drinks, but the best of the reefs!
Carleen
if you take the 2 hour timeshare presentation, you can use the $ incentive twards excursions. the catamaran/snorkling and lunch at isla muheres was awesome, a all day trip and after incentive it was only around $50 a person all transport fees and reef charge included in that (you pay them seperate but added together about $50 a person for a whole day of fun, food and booze included)

We went to see pyramids in Coba, company name Olimpus, but didnt like a guide at all. She was young and did not gave a lot of info. Driver did. Probably it is good idea to ask about guide person.

How much is it for WiFi if you aren't staying in Privilege area?8 answers

WiFi is only provided in the lobby area and that is complimentary for all guests. Internet Service in the rooms, including Privilege guests, is via cable which is provided by the resort at the current rate of $10 per hour, prices are subject to change.
ccsusan1
WiFi is free and only in the lobby area. The rooms are wired and I don't know the cost

Wifi is free, but you have to be in the lobby and the signal can be a bit sketchy. It worked 2 of the 4 days we were there.

Some room service is, but some of the items on the menu you have to pay for if you are not a privileged guest. It was pretty clear on the menu.

has anyone been parasailing while staying at Ocean Coral & Turquesa????4 answers
I have read a ton of warnings...no first hand horror stories but a lot of people scared to parasail here. Anyone have first hand experience, good or bad?
7 years, 92 months ago
MN
I have not had first hand experience here but one should always be cautious when selecting a company offering parasailing. You want to select an experienced, well rated, and safe company. You should always do your research and review their safety record before selection.
ccsusan1
We have parsailed at Moon Place, just north of OC, had a great time, and would. Recommend it highly. There are two types of parasails, one your legs dangle, I would imagine that could be difficult on take off and landings, we went with a company that is like a floating chair lift. Very secure, and they were very professional. See our video of it on YouTube.
Search parasail over moon palace, or higrader1 videos. enjoy:-)
Higrader
If you are in the all inclusive pkg, yet it is FREE

Wasn't an option when we were there.

what were your favorite drinks while staying here?8 answers
Looking to try some new, tasty, alcoholic beverages while here on vacay. What were your favorites/best bartender you had?
7 years, 92 months ago

You can never go wrong with a tasty local rum drink! The bartenders are awesome when it comes to suggesting something new and delicious concoctions to try.
ccsusan1
Everything. They had a long list of specialty drinks that range from mudslides (which were very good) to fruity bahama mommas. I tried almost every drink on the menu that didn't contain gin and liked everyone of them. I ended up drinking a 34 oz thermos of vodka lemonade served by Carlos at the pool bar for a few days straight.

Try a Miami Vic, all there bartenters are great:-)

how far is this hotel from cancun airport and how much does it cost9 answers
7 years, 91 months ago
ash
about 30 mintues. Cost....it was included in my travel.
jonfromindiana
The resort is approximately 17 miles from the Cancun Airport and you are able to include the roundtrip aiport transfer service with your vacation package for an additional charge.
MariaCC
OC is 8 miles south of the airport, transfers about 75.00 per person,
Or take a cab, we have not done this. We rent a car for the week, for 300.00, we go anywhere anytime we wish, American car rental is who we have used for years now. Getting around in the Yucatan is very easy,
And the the people are great.
Higrader
20 minutes, 40 dollars
moises
20 min and we took a shuttle....it was about $45...cabs are very expensive in this part of mexico. We took a cab one day to cancun and it was $80 round trip.
heidy
Not far. Only about 10 to 15 minutes. I'm not sure what cost you are wanting.
Carleen
its about 30 min. i grabbed a cab from the road and it was $35 USD. the shuttles from the airport are really expensive, like almost 100! you can also take the "payless car rental" shuttle for free to their location, right on the 307, and get a cab at the gas station that is right their for even cheaper if you are a "thrifty" person like myself. be careful about car rentals, they wanted a $20,000 deposit for $66 forth of car rental if you dont get their inflated rental insurance.... dont believe the car deals on travelocity unless its a rental co. you know well.
ErinE
Around 25 min drive from airport. We have paid for round trip $50 per family
Rytorasa
30 mins from airport. Your best bet is to buy the shuttle service Cheap Caribbean offers. It's cheaper and they are waiting for you at the airport.

Denver, Puerto Morelos just 3 miles south of OC, or a mall in the hotel zone, just depends on what you wish to buy? They have the collectivo, and cabs going any direction you wish!
Higrader
Cancun is a 30 minutes taxi drive from the hotel. There is also an outside market somewhere close but we didn't get a chance to go.
Kate0620
We were told to go to Play-del-Carmen. It was a nice trip. Typical island shops. Cost us $20 per person for the trip. I would go again.
Carleen
Cancun or Playa Del Carmen are ok to travel to during the day (probably 25 minutes to a half hour) The hotel can arrange for a cab or your tour company may have a shuttle service
JAS79
I shopped at Isla Muheres and cancun, both too pricey for me, but i live in NYC where I can get almost anything for $1. The gift shop at the hotel has a ton of stuff but it is WAY overpriced. you may want to try puerto morelos to shop
ErinE
At a resort almost everything is more expensive.
Rytorasa
Playa Del Carmen is a short cab ride (under 30 minutes) and has excellent shopping availability on '5th Avenue'. If you buy any of the excursion activities through the reps at the hotel (ex: snorkeling, swimming with dolphins, etc.) ... they'll throw in a round trip late afternoon trip to Playa Del Carmen with a Tequila Tasting included. The bus shuttles up to 8 people to and from the hotel lobby, with a tour guide, from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. any night of the week.
mel06
You can walk south down the beach (45 to 60 min) to Puerto Morelos and enjoy some drinks and food and the beachside cantinas and a little shopping in the small shopping district. Or, you can take shopping tour into Playa Del Carmen (this is such a fun town!). I would actually recommend using taxi to go into Playa Del Carmen if you want to spend more than 3 hours (and you will!).
lifeisgood220
They have two options. You can go to Cancun for free from 9am to 2pm or Playa Del Carmen for $19USD a person from 4pm to 9pm. Well worth it! I went to Playa and had a blast!

We know that water bottes are provided for drinking, but what about the ice or blended drinks? or even the food?
7 years, 89 months ago

All the resorts use a water filtration system, the water used for ice and to cook with is safe to eat.
KristenCC
No problems with drinking the water (ice in drinks, and water poured in glasses at restaurants).
Bottled water is also available any time.
Spark
no problems at all, they purify the water. ice is good, brushing teeth, I even drank tap water. you will be fine on the resort
ErinE
No problem with drinking water. Every day they provide to the rooms or you can get anywhere ( bars, restaurant, buffet).
Rytorasa
They use bottled water for everything. Even the locals do not drink the water.
vacationplanner
We are from the US, so were very wary of the water. I drank it a few times in error (things I assumed were juices that were actually 'lemon water' or 'orange water') and never felt even remotely ill. I also had PLENTY of blended drinks while there, and again, no sickness as a result whatsoever. We ate the resort food at least three times a day for 8 days and never once felt ill from the food either. They replaced the bottled water in our rooms fridge daily (as long as we required maid service), and the lobby bar has bottled water on hand.
mel06
food was great. This place is cleaner than most US places I have been . Drank tap water all the time , No problems!
tkisuans
Not at all. They give you plently of bottled water in the room at the bars etc. They also use bottle water at the resturants. The last thing a resort wants is everone sick. They take precautions.

Should we book the tour at cheap caribbean site or is it cheaper if we we it at the hotel?
7 years, 87 months ago
New york
We always reccommend booking your excurions in advance, as spots do tend to fill quickly. By booking early, you will get your preferred day/time slot. We do not have direct pricing for the vendors that we work with. We only have the pricing that we are contracted to charge. However, by booking directly with us, should there be a problem with the tour, we are then able to assist you, whereas if you book directly with the vendor, we cannot.
KateHCC
cheap Caribbean has a rep at the hotel who you will ultimately book with (Maria, she was super helpful!)...but do it at the hotel. you will be offered a 2 hour timeshare like presentation when you check in, and we scheduled the presentation the next day....and they paid us $75 a couple to go to the presentation, you get top shelf drinks during, and the premium breakfast or lunch!! After, you can apply that incentive right to your excursion! you DO NOT need to buy their program though. Also they will offer you less incentive at first...say no a few times to get more!

We think is cheaper true cheap caribbean site.

Is there a pool just for Privilege customers?3 answers
Howdy! I will go with my family to the Resort in January and, while reading the info about the place, I read something about a private pool for Privilege customers (the same as a private beach). Is this true?
7 years, 85 months ago
Aggie
The pool is open to any guest at the resort, however guests that book the Privilege Junior Suite room types do have exclusive access to a separate private beach area.
ChrisCC
Interesting answer, particularly because I was under the impression that Mexican Laws do not allow anyone to own a portion of a coastline; hence, no beach can be (legally) private and all should be of free access (whether there is a hotel in the area or not!)
Pepelui
There are 4 pools. 1 kids, 1 activity, 1 party, 1 relax. Yes the relax pool is in the privilage area but anyone can go there! No private beach either. You can go anywhere on the beach.

The onsite souvenir shop has a variety of cigar options and sells cigarettes too. There was also someone selling cuban cigars at a stand in a main area of the hotel in the evenings. All balconies have ashtrays and the resort seemed to be fairly smoker-friendly.

What tours or excursions are available?2 answers
We are interested in tours and excursions. How can I find a list of what's available, age requirements, and costs?
6 years, 84 months ago
spaz
The excursions that are available for the region you are traveling to are available on our website. You will need to select the hotel that are interested in (the dates are irrelevant) and a list of avalable excursions will populate. You can click on each individual icon for further information regarding pricing and age requirements. You can always, of course, call into our help desk and speak with one of our beach experts for assistance as well.
KateHCC
There are dozens (maybe hundreds!) of excursions available from most of the hotels in area. A huge variety for all ages. The hotel staff (and especially the Olympus Tours/Cheap Caribbean rep) is very good at explaining them and booking them for you. They tend to be a bit pricey, but you know they will be safe, unlike something you might have pushed at you by some unknown person on the street. We did an ATV jungle tour and a speed boat tour that were both fun.

Weather in mid-July2 answers
What is the weather like in July
6 years, 84 months ago
spaz
According to Holidayweather.com, the temperatures in the Riviera Maya region can range from the upper 70's to the mid 90's. It is also not uncommon to see a 30% chance of rain each day in the forecast, however, most of the time, showers do pass quickly. Keep in mind though that July is is the middle of the Atlantic Hurricane Season which runs from June 1 until November 30.
KateHCC
I was a little farther south near Akumal last July. It was very sunny everyday and quite hot 82-88 F. As long as you are not far from the coast/beach or are in a pool it feels great. Hiking ruins or jungle inland is a pretty sweaty ordeal. Strong sunblock or rash guards are needed if you are fair-skinned. The ocean also is much warmer in July compared to December so you can stand or snorkel for longer without getting cold.

Excursions3 answers
I don't see a link or drop down option to view excurions. Where do I find those on your website? Also, I've been on all-inclusive vacations where you can make reservation and pre-pay for excursions. Where is this option?
6 years, 84 months ago
NY
During the booking process, after you select your room type, you will be offered tours and airport transfers. If you have already booked, please call our office to discuss the options available from your hotel.
Tours can be added while on vacation as well. Olympus tours will be able give you a welcome packet that will include tours, excursions and local information. This rep may not be in the hotel daily but should have a regular schedule to provide to you. This rep will be able to assist you with any tours or activities off property. We would recommend only using services provided by hotel or Olympus so you don’t have any unexpected surprises with services.
KellyCC
Right before you check out on cheapcaribbean.com website there is a list of excursions you can choose from and prepay for OR you can wait until you arrive at hotel (that way you can judge your excursion day according to weather) and there is an excursion desk in the lobby of the hotel that has many more options, you can schedule your excursion there and pay for them on the day you check out of the hotel.
EEL1231
When you get to the resort there is an Olympus Rep with a book of excursions. If you have the options to buy $ on here for a discount do it! Then you can use them when you arrive.

Is it worthwhile to rent a car?4 answers
6 years, 84 months ago
Georgia Gary
This resort is in Punta Coral, in the Puerto Morelos area, is 17 mi from Cancun Airport (CUN), 21.75 mi from Playa del Carmen and 19.88 mi from Cancun.
It is recommended that you at least pre-purchase transfers to the hotel as part of your package.
This resort has many great amenities to keep on on site! Tours to various locations nearby are available if you think you will only make a day trip. Otherwise not guests do not rent cars.
KellyCC
I don't think so. Everything you could want is in the resort. There is relatively fair taxi faires and bus tours to everwhere. On one bus tour we went through a checkpoint where there were acutally armed gaurds weilding AK-47's watching for drug trafficking. I was glad to be on the tour bus and not on my own. This was a ways from the hotel so don't let it scare you. It's just a reality of the country.
Zinni
No car needed. If you book with cheap caribbean, the olympus tours crew will bring you to and from the airport. Also, for excursions they will bring you and pick you up!
KRay3
I would not suggest reting a car, the roads are very torn up from rain, if you get lost no one can really tell you in English where to go.
We took a taxi ride into next town $40.00 there $40.00 back.

6 years, 83 months ago
Tama
Topless and nude sunbathing is not permitted anywhere in Mexico.
CaitlinCC
We saw a few topless bathers at the Ocean Coral and Turquesa, but that's nothing compared to the nudist resort down the beach (about halfway between the hotel and Puerto Morelos)! That was the talk of everyone at the pool who made the trek into Puerto Morelos (which is a fun thing to do for a few hours).
lifeisgood220
Minimal, but a person can or can't depending on their liking.
Gami
we saw no topless sunbathing, though it might just be due to the fact that most clientele seemed to be american. when i've gone to resorts with more european guests than american (e.g. in punta cana, dr), topless bathing seemed more common. not sure if there's an official policy on it or it not though!
getmetothebeach
The information in the room says that the beach is topless-optional. However, in the 4 days that we were there, we did not see a single topless gal (much to the disgust of my teenaged son).

What age is considered "adult" at this resort?6 answers
I will be taking my daughter to this resort one week after her 18th birthday and would like to know what is considered adult age. We would like to go to the Asian restaurant, which is adult only.
6 years, 82 months ago
Columbus, OH
This resort considers anyone 12 years or older an adult.
CaitlinCC
She would be able to go to the restaurant. They have a sign that says "no children". They mean like small children/young children. 18 is an adult in Mexico, they can drink. I would suggest for the Asian Restaurant to make reservations at 6pm on the dot. They fill up really really quick!!
CSupe
I believe the signs for the japanese restaurant said no one under 14 was allowed.
getmetothebeach
There were 3 tiers of wrist bands they gave our. Under 18 (red), 18-21 (yellow), 21+ (blue).
18+ could drink, and I saw a few of them eating at the asian place (this is to prevent bringing children to hibachi).
MarkP
She will be fine. They just mean no small children running around. I saw young adults 16-19 in there. She will be good!
jwallner22
If she's 18, she'll be considered an adult. As far as Sensai the restaurant goes, the adult only rule is for safety for Hibatchi reasons. She'll be fine she'll have no problems with age there. Also, Sensai starts taking reservations at 5:40 every night …hibatchi shows are at 6pm, 7:30 pm and 9 pm. They fill up fast so make the reservation but it was amazing!!! Shrimp chicken and beef, sushi apps, soup, and lots of fried rice (my favorite)!
Just turned 23 here…so it's a good place to celebrate a birthday!

Xcaret is going to offer one of the best cenote experiences; if you get time, a trip to Tulum and Xel-Ha is worth it as well. The pricing will vary depending on the number of people (adults and children) and you are able to access this information when creating a booking, on the add ons tab.

My friend and I did the Xplor which includes that along with ziplanes. Very fun!! We paid $100 at the airport thru another resort. The only thing is we had to visit their resort where they tried selling us a condo. That was 3 hrs of our day but it was worth the discount. XCARET cost around $300 or a littlel more. This is a nice spot, saw many others here on honeymoons.

There is a separate pool that is considered the 'Quiet Pool' at Ocean Coral & Turquesa. But from what I have heard, Tulum is the place to go for peace and quiet; we avoided it because we traveled with our 3 young boys on Spring Break and didn't want to have them feel restricted.
ClevelandVacationers
Ocean coral is more of a family place. There are lots of children and a lot of activity. If you are looking for quiet and romance this is not the place.

"Local drinks" simply means all the local Mexican brands of beer, wine, liquor, etc. The term "a la carte restaurants" refers to the specialty restaurants on property. Typically, the restaurants that are not buffet-style are referred to as "a la carte" or "specialty" restaurants. Usually they require that guests make reservations through the front desk prior to dining. While meals at the a la carte restaurants are included with the all-inclusive plan, some dining restrictions may apply. Please check with the front desk for further details.
BILLCC
In one particular restaurant, better than 1/2 appeared to be an additional cost. This was not clear on their Website or as explained by the Front Desk Staff.
Ragu
Most of the restaurants are A La carte,
verything is incluided, you dont pay for A la carte servces, with only a few exception on the manu, when you pay extra.
Malu
Not sure about the drinks. Except for the buffets we experienced ala carte at all the restaurants. Ala carte also means bite sized portions so order more than you think you can eat! A couple in our group ordered red wine at the Italian restaurant and it was very strong.

How is the weather in early June?5 answers
Temp and is it a rainy season? Thanks :)

New York
The weather in June is average 85F. This time of year is the beginning of hurricane season, however hurricane season really picks up in August to October.
CaitlinCC
We just returned from out trip just yesterday. When we arrived it was raining and it had been raining for the past 10 days. When we departed on Sunday though it was quite beautiful and our last 4 days was quite wonderful. The sun was shinning and it was hot. The thing about Mexico is it will rain but then it passes and the sun quickly returns.
vfmel
We were there from June 5-12. They said it had rained for 7 days straight before we got there. It rained some the first day and sprinkled for a few minutes one other day but other than that it was beautiful.
Notsohappy
I was there June 2-June 8 this year and it rained for 4 days straight. June begins the rainy season, so try go earlier or later.

We stayed the end of June, temps in the mid to upper 80's. Humidity was high at 75%. Perfect for beach vacation during the day. Nights were in the 70's. We had no rain.

This resort does not have a beach bar.
CaitlinCC
no , waitress do come around the beach to get your drinks
Deb268
There are bars ( and bathrooms) at the pools which are a very short walk off of the beach, 25 yards. The waitresses will come to the beach and get you drinks also. Give them a dollar or two a day and they come by pretty often.
BeachMickey
No. It's a very close walk to any bar though. Never was a problem for me.
jwallner22
No but there are people walking around taking beverage orders from the bar.

No beach bar, but there's a large size pool bar. The staff works the beach area and will bring drinks out to you and collect your empties…hard working staff so you get your drinks in decent time.

You can get top shelf drinks, can reserve dinner times, private beach, etc. we did not buy into this and did not regret that choice. Walked past the private beach and it was empty. Our drinks were great without the upgrade. We had to wait a little for dinner but, just got a drink while waiting. I don't think it's worth the extra costs. I'd rather spend the $ on an excursion.

We took snorkel trip on a boat out to the reef, but there were no whale sharks or any other sharks that we saw the day that we were there. $39 and it then includes access to sailboats and Kayaks.

I did this and it was wonderful! An expereince of a lifetime. It's $200 a person to do this but you can find deals online before you go for a little cheaper like $175. When you get there you can tell the travel agents it is online and they gave me the same pricing. The whale sharks are only in Mexico until about August. FYI

Not that I know of.

You can use the Kayak they have out there. You can also jump onto a small boat and it takes you to the coral reef right off the resort. There is a $5 fee to do so but this is a government fee to protect the corals. One time fee!
jwallner22
There is only a simple 3$ fee for the national park. The hotel is directly next to a protected area, so the park asks the hotel to charge $3usd just for the kayaks and catamarans to be used in the areas of the coral reefs. However, given the beauty of it and having done the kayaking, the 3 dollars was well worth it, and its a one time only fee. You can kayak and sail all week once you've paid the national park fee.

For the junior suite you can also get two queens I believe.

The Junior Suite would come with either 2 double beds and 1 full size sofa bed or 1 king size bed and 1 full size sofa bed.
CoryCC
yes five fits great in a room but keep in mind bathrooms are wide open no privacy

You can request 2 queen beds, plus there is a pull out sofa that could sleep 2 children or one adult comfortably. The pull out sofa is very uncomfortable though so I would recommend asking for a foam mattress to lay on top of the pull out

There are 2 double beds and one pull out couch.

We had a junior suite. It had 2 double beds & a pull out couch. technically the room could sleep 6 if 2 people slept in each bed & the pull out couch. Roundtrip airport transfer service can be added during the booking of your vacation package. The transportation would them be arranged prior to travel. You can also choose to upgrade to the private roundtrip airport transfer service.

I would go with the transportation fees already paid through CC. If there is a large party the shuttle will automatically try to get you all in your vehicle. Unless its a bus
LovingSunshineinMexico
Contact Olympus Tours. They had a van at the airport that could most likely fit a party of that size.

We purchased private transportation through cheap Caribbean. Van waiting for us & picked us up to go back to airport. Very organized & worth it. Otherwise they are "sharks" at the Cancun airport!

I was wondering if the beach cabanas/huts in the pictures are only for privilege guests or if anyone can get them? Also, how hard are they to get? We are going in January.

January is considered peak season, so the resort may be at max capacity. It can be tough to secure lounge chairs etc. when the resort is full. To keep everything fair, the resort amenities are available on a first come first serve basis. I am not familiar this this particular resort having cabanas or beach huts. Please call the resort for more information.

There were very few huts being used during our stay. Although there was a sign designating otherwise, we used them daily without any issues.

They are available for all guest. There is a Priviledge Section further up the beach. In Nov. when we went good crowd but if you arrive early in a.m. put your towel on them they are yours.

It is $40 each person for both ways. I suggest using this. The only thing is that when we left to go to the airport, our flight was with Aero Mexico (partnering with Delta) and we told our driver we were flying out of Aero Mexico (which is what it said on our boarding pass) and he brought up to the Aero Mexico place and when we got there we had to take a $30 (5 minute) taxi ride to the correct Delta airlines place. We said Aero Mexico Delta but the driver still brought us to the Aero Mexico place. We didn't know any better and we thought the driver should know better.

There is a taxi service in the Lobby that serves only the resorts in the immediate area. We just came home and for about $22 usd per person, we had 6 hours of taxi use. He took us to 5th Avenue (plan at least 3 hrs) in Playa Del Carmen and then Wal-mart.

In March, the average daily temperature is in the low 90s, and temperatures of 106° F are not unknown. It only begins to cool off a bit as the rains start in May (expect rain on 10 days that month for a total of more than 3 inches in the month). Despite the weather, those months are also some of the most crowded as "spring breakers" descend on the Riviera Maya for major party time.

What is the view from a normally booked room if you do not upgrade at all?
5 years, 69 months ago

The view can vary depending on the room and availability. It may be a resort view, a tropical view or an ocean view.
LizCC
A normally booked room standard view was step out onto your balcony and see a walkway and a bunch of palm trees directly in your view. However if you lean out and look to your right or left your could get a glimpse of the ocean.
LadyM514811
The one good thing is that almost every room has a great view unless on the first floor where you will look at bush/tree.

no doors in the bathroom, just sheer curtains. In the bathrooms, there are doors for the shower and toilet so you can't see in when someone is in there.
KMcK
No Door. Try that with teenage girls. I will not return.
jbhworth
The toilet and shower areas have doors but they are inside a larger area that includes the garden tub, sink and vanity. This area has a curtain and not a door.

Curious about this. In this day and age it should be. Here is notice to hotels, paid Internet is a deal breaker for me.

Ocean Coral & Turquesa offers complimentary Wi-Fi access in the lobby and in Privilege Service accommodations, but all other room types will have to pay an additional charge for timed access.
SalCC
Yes its free and signal was good.....
mrherdfan
Internet is free and is pretty good quality. Even could access on the beach and by the pool.
BeachLoverSinceBirth
Yes Free but doesn't work. Let me say that again. DOES NOT WORK! This isn't an isolated situation. Comparing with others who went 2 months before, same issue. If you like to work to stay caught up? Not happening. Like to iMsg with your kids so you can keep track of them on the resort? Not through wifi you're not. Get ready for Mexico cell service!

Yes it is free, throughout the hotel and also on the beach

Good place for couple in 40's wanting some fun but relaxation too?5 answers
My husband and I, in our early 40's, are looking for a mid-price resort (don't want to break the bank) that isn't too much of a party crowd. Relaxing, but having fun too. Just not into the "20 somethings" crowd. That's why I'm steering away from the Cancun Hotel Zone and heard Riviera Maya would be more our speed. Is Ocean Coral and Turquesa the right place for us? Wanting to go for a short 5 night trip in October.
4 years, 53 months ago
Pennsylvania
It sounds like Riviera Maya is definitely a good starting point for your needs. While this resort may steer you away from a bulk of the younger crowd, there may be a few better options available to you if you want to branch out. For further information, please call us at 1.800.915.2322.
SamCC
cheap place would be grand oasis tulum
friendlygroup
I'm 40 and my husband is 46, we vacationed there with our kids and enjoyed it very much. Would definitely go again!
clalop
Ocean coral and turquesa will be the best hotel for you. We also wanted to have fun but at the same time relax, the hotel fitted our expectations
Colmed
eh, this place may be good in the situation but to be certain, you will tip yourself and buy bottles of wine to get restaurant reservations, to death! Not a quite retreat. Is cramped and is more like being on a cruise ship.

Yes, however, the walks were enjoyable because of the atmosphere
Kazoo
Resort is large but there are plenty of elevators & shuttle that takes you to pool/ beach area.
Johy
Not large at all and everything is right outside of your room.
TBalestra
no it is very small if you stay at grand oasis.. easy to get around by foot, do not stay at oasis Tulum that resort is out by the main road and you need golf cart to get to grand oasis.
friendlygroup
There is walking involved but there are trolley available that will pick you up upon request.
clalop
No JDR is only 250 rooms so big but not too big.
Waterskibumfl
Its just big enough. There is walking involved, but there are several elevators. Everything is walking distance. If u stay on the don Pablo side, when u come down the elevator the pool is right there. The restaurants are all on the 1st floor and easy to get to. Ive stayed at large resorts and regretted it..this one is perfect :)

Beer in the minibar5 answers
Based on reviews and pictures, it seems they only put 2 cans of beer in the mini bar daily. Is this true? If that's the case, will room service bring beer to a "nonupgraded" room?
3 years, 48 months ago

There were at least 4 cans of beer in our mini bar. Also, the bar stays open late so you can always get drinks there.
sunshineluv
they do only put 2 cans in the bar and they restock every other day. however, I did call the front desk and they did bring 4 cans and more rum.
edogg
You should be able to contact the front desk for more beer or to have it restocked. Please check with the resort directly.
TimCC
They do only put 2 cans of beer in your room fridge but if you get maid service they will restock it everyday. You do not need to be upgraded for this.

That's true, it was only two cans of beer in our mini bar along with soda's and bottle water. But it's restocked daily when the room is cleaned. Not sure on the answer for room service.

There are definitely fish, jellyfish, sometimes sea turtles off of the resort. However, to get a full snorkeling experience with reefs and variations of fish, a snorkeling excursion may be a better fit as Puerto Morelos has plenty to see!

Yes, or you can take a tour to see Chiche'n Itza' , the magical ancient Mayan world as we did.

This site does not have a dollar signs next to snorkeling and sailing. I have looked at people's reviews and they stated they had to pay extra. Why is that? Do you have to pay extra for snorkeling, sailing and kayaking at ocean coral and turquesa resort?
3 years, 41 months ago
Pam
With amenities and activities like these, pricing is always subject to change, and most often do come at an additional charge.
JeannieCC
Yes you have to pay extra but you leave right from the beach. There are also vendors who walk up and down the beach selling cheaper excursions. There is a nice reef to snorkel at that you can see from the beach. We saw sea turtles and had a good time.
loril917
We just returned. Snorkeling on the barrier reef is extra - $45/adult, $35/child. This pays for a boat ride of about 15 minutes out to the reef, equipment and a guided swim of about an hour. Sailing was extra, but I don't know exactly how much. I am not sure about kayaking.
Faeroe
Yes,you pay extra for pretty much everything
Hotel provides a volleyball :)
Cancunexpert
There were kayaks and a catamaran that we were told we could take out free of charge for a half hour but we were told we were expected to tip them to do so. As far as snorkeling equipment, none was available. They wanted you to pay for excursions. The ad makes it sound like the snorkeling was on site, however it is not.
