Great resort for kids

3 families with 7 kids ranging from 6 to 14 traveled over Thanksgiving. This is a perfect resort for kids and teens. There is so much to do and a great variety of food options all kids like. The pools are amazing. The adults loved it too! I would highly recommend.

This is my 4th visit in a year. I love this resort and would recommend it to anyone. Staff is wonderful, friendly and helpful. Food was great and so was the entertainment. Loved all the pools and activities, but would like to see some craft activities for adults. Try the FISH SPA, it is soooo much fun and your feet will be so soft. Gabby in the SPA is wonderful. I would recommend her to everyone. Can't say enough wonderful things about this resort.

no frills resort

This review will visit upon on the negative aspects of the experience first, then end with the positive ones. - There wasn't much to do on the resort grounds. That's not to say they didn't try with daily performance entertainment. It just didn't seem like it was geared to our demographic. We're a late 20's couple, while most of the guest seemed to be much much older or with children. - If you didn't opt for the premium upgrade like us, they stuck us in the resort hotels situated in the back corner of the resort that faces trees.. - I question the cleanliness of the rooms.. On day two of six, I dropped something behind the couch cushion (which is removable, due to it being part of a murphy bed system). I removed the cushion to find some large unsightly stains. There were no other unclean areas of the hotel room, but that itself made me question the rest of the room. - Don't do the complimentary Jewelry tour.. It's advertised as a quick tour of their partnered jewelry shop in town, with complimentary tequila shots next door, then a complimentary shuttle to Playa de Carmen so you can spend some time walking around exploring. Here's what they don't tell you: 1. They don't give you actual tequila shots. They pour a few drops of tequila into a tiny an already thimble or a cup. When I say a few drops, I mean just enough to cover the bottom of the cup. 2. The shuttle isn't waiting there to bring you to Playa de Carmen, nor are there frequent cars heading back and forth. We waited 25 min for a shuttle.. 3. After it finally arrived, the shuttle took about 20 min to get to playa de Carmen. After having to wait a total of 40-60 min (starting from the completion of our tour), we arrived in town to find out that our options for getting back to our resort were to take the next shuttle (literally 5 min after we arrived) or wait 2hrs for the next one after that. There were no shuttles in between. In total we wasted a good part of 4-5 hours of our afternoon/evening. - The marketing session they ask you to be part of, that rewards you with vouchers or coupons on activities/gifts, is debatable on being worth the value.. The marketing session is advertised as 1hr of your time, however, that's just the slideshow presentation. There's the waiting to get started and the selling aspect after the slideshow. Expect to spend 2hrs of time. - The number one thing we were disappointed about was that the international buffet, which my girlfriend had been raving about, was closed, yet there were no disclaimers about this during our booking or arrival. - The best meals we ate came from the Italian and French restaurant. Book early for the Italian restaurant because reservations go fast. - Less about the resort and more about the area. The location is in the middle of no where.. so be prepared to pay for $30-40 cab rides (one way) to areas you want to go to like tulum or cancun. Things that we enjoyed and found value in: - Staff members throughout the resort were all friendly and willing to help if you asked them questions. - Complimentary mosquito repellent made a huge difference. I don't know if it was mosquito mating season or what but I left with 30+ bites, but that number would have been much higher had there not been repellent. - The room we were given was large, so I'll give the resort credit on the sheer size of the room - Complimentary golf cart rides to your destinations within the resort. This came in handy for getting to the other side of the resort, since our building was on the complete opposite end of the resort. - The pools weren't filled with people so we were able to find spots easily. - Didn't see many people on the beach outside the resort but that's literally a few steps right outside.

Hotel Description

Hotel Marina El Cid Resort: Experience All-Inclusive Luxury

If you've been seeing white-sands, swaying palm trees and blue water instead of traffic jams, cramped cubicles and mindless sitcoms, you know it's time for a vacation. Choose Hotel Marina El Cid in Riviera Maya, where you'll find those palm trees and blue ocean, as well as warm breezes and a private beach of lovely white sand ready for you to ease your restless mind.

This all-inclusive, oceanfront resort, less than 20 minutes from Cancun International Airport, overlooks Puerto Morelos National Reef Park on the Mayan Riviera, just a hop, skip and a jump from the charming fishing village of Puerto Morelos. Scuba divers and snorkelers can explore the off-shore reef that ranks as the second-largest in the world, while the water lovers find their sanctuary in the heated infinity pool or the 22,000-sq-ft, free-form pool, complete with a swim-up bar, cascading waterfalls, and in-water lounge chairs. A designated children's area hosts a network of waterslides to keep the kids happy, while the adult-only section features a spa tub, sun deck, and a Jacuzzi bar-and-massage area.

But to find the essence of relaxation, go no further than Scaramanga Bar and Lounge, where you can enjoy all-inclusive cocktails while swaying in rope hammocks or lying on plush mattresses on the warm sand. Visit Hacienda Arrecife, poolside, for classic Mexican dishes and 100-plus brands of tequila to keep you palate wet. If you are hankering for something a little different, wander into El Alcazar for gourmet Mediterranean fare, where an extensive wine cellar and delicacies, such as duck breast and beef filet prove irresistible.

Complete your daytime adventure with a dolphin swim before returning to your exquisite Junior Suite, with an ocean, garden or pool view, where you'll find yourself surrounded by contemporary decor and a mild Mediterranean palette of warm colors. Or, if your energy still abounds, just stop by for a change of clothes before taking to the Lobby Bar Cafe & Lounge for a night of live music.

Environmental Levy Fee
The Municipalidad of Solidaridad in the Rivera Maya is one of the most beautiful places in the Mexican Caribbean. Tourism has been instrumental in driving the economic and social development of the region. In an effort to continue to preserve, conserve and beautify the destination, the Municipality of Solidaridad has implemented a small environmental levy on visitors effective September 1, 2017. Hotels will collect 20 Mexican pesos per room per day (amount is subject to change without notice) upon check in; the proceeds will be deposited in an environmental trust to fund local projects. The Municipalidad of Solidaridad thanks you for your understanding and support of this worthwhile endeavor. Thank you and enjoy your visit.

Holy Week
In observance of Holy Week, some resorts in the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Costa Rica may put limits on the use of motorized water sports, and loud music.

If travel is booked and no one fulfills this requirement, you will be denied check-in at this resort. The hotel strongly discourages spring break and multiple-student reservations.
