Overall, a very good vacation

When it comes to vacations and resorts I’m spoiled. I consider myself very lucky to have been and stayed where I have in my life. With that being said, this is not my favorite resort or destination, but it is a place that I thoroughly enjoyed. The service is amazing and the staff is incredibly friendly. To me, that’s the most important part of a resort. The second however is the beach/pools. What I missed at this resort is that there is no infinity pool (unless you stay at TRS) and the ocean is not in sight at all. I love laying by the pool and looking at the ocean and could not do that here. The pools itself are phenomenal-very big, not crowded and bars all around. The ocean though isn’t, it’s very, very rocky. Many people complained about the seaweed but that didn’t bother me. What bothered me was walking in to the water and being scared of breaking an ankle due to the rocks that you couldn’t see at the bottom. I love the ocean and could spend the entire day in it, but not here. That was the biggest bummer. The restaurants are above average but the buffets were not. The bars were solid and the staff poured generously if you asked. The drive to town was about 25-30 minutes and I highly recommend checking it out. I was impressed with the room and felt very comfortable there. Overall, I’m happy with my trip and would recommend this place to others. However, now that I’ve been here once, I will try another place and one that has an infinity pool with a more inviting beach. But again, the staff was top notch.

Great winter vacation spot

We stayed at the White Sands resort in early March. The Grand Palladium property is immense, with 4 resorts all on the same grounds. The main 3 (Colonial, Katenah, White Sands) are all in a row and staying at any of these gives you access to the restaurants/bars and facilities of all 3. The 4th resort is their adults only TRS section, which plebians :) at the main properties don't have access to. Our junior suite was spacious and beautiful and very clean. Check in/out was easy, and the room was kept neat, had powerful AC, and our fridge was restocked daily. The in-room fridge includes plenty of large bottles of water, which were great to take on excursions and we never went thirsty. There was also soda, juice, beer, and peanuts to snack on in a pinch. We have stayed other places that also stock wine in the room, which would have been our only small "complaint" about our suite. The main pool at the White Sands is large and has a swim up bar, and because we were traveling "off season" was never crowded. The towel system was a little odd- we were given 2 "towel cards" that we had to carry with us to trade for fresh towels, and then bring back the towels to trade for cards at the end of each day - no difficulties getting fresh towels on demand but an extra thing to worry about/carry around. Of note, the only hot tub/s on the property are located in their spa section, which costs extra to use unless you are staying at TRS. It was a very long walk from our room to just about everything, including the restaurants allegedly located on the White Sands resort. Again, maybe because it was low season, some of the buffet/lunch restaurants were closed that would have been closer to our room. For example, breakfast was about a 10 minute walk away. Some of the restaurants located on the Katenah property were closer to a 20 minute walk. There are lots of golf carts running around at all times, and we got lucky and were picked up several times, but a lot of the carts were only for Palladium Travel club members or TRS travelers. They do provide carts on demand if you call and don't mind waiting a few minutes. The beach was lovely with clear, teal water - a lot of seaweed, again probably just because of the season - so we ended up spending most of our time by one of the many large pools. The food was definitely a mixed bag. Breakfast and lunch are both only available buffet style, and we found it made a huge difference getting there early when the food was the most fresh. Both meals had expansive selections and most everything was good but not especially amazing. They have 9 a la carte restaurants available in all different types of cuisine. The best food was from their 2 steak house themed restaurants (El Dorado and Ribs & More). We also tried Punta Emilia, La Lola, and O Pavao (seafood, Spanish, Brazilian) and found those to be a bit short of the mark. We are definitely foodies and were hoping for better from these spots- alot of the food was pretty bland, and despite the different themes, had many repeats (like the same cheeses at all 3, etc.) Most of the bars are equipped with coffee service, which made a cafe con leche always within reach - a definite plus! And all of the bartenders were capable and friendly. The house cocktail list was creative but mostly full of super sugary drinks with very little alcohol (pretty standard resort fare) so your best bet is to order wine, beer, or a standard cocktail. Again, this may be partially due to the time of year we traveled, but the nightlife was a bit lacking. Although the bars were open, most were nearly empty by midnight, and none were geared toward dancing/late night fun. There's only 1 pool table on the whole property (in the sports bar) and they could benefit from the addition of some dart boards or other bar games. Lastly, we really enjoyed seeing a lot of the natural flora and fauna of the Yucatan. One advantage of the large resort is that they incorporated lots of natural areas of brush and jungle. We saw many iguanas, tzereques, raccoons but also lots of coatis and a great variety of birds. Staff were always available to help or direct us, and everyone was friendly and accommodating. Although the White Sands allows children, we found most families traveling with kids stayed at the Colonial or Katenah, which are closest to the kid's pool and activities. There didn't seem to be a schedule for events available other than the large bulletin boards in the lobbies, and they were lacking descriptions of the shows/events. We didn't have a chance to check out any of their main stage shows. Overall, the room was affordable and a good value for the cost and I would recommend to other travelers looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway at an affordable all-inclusive.

A Little Slice of Heaven

Check in was painless and fast. We were whisked away to our room and settled in right away. The bathroom has a jetted tub that is enormous and easily fits two people. It also had a separate shower with a rain shower head that was the biggest I have ever seen. Bathing at this hotel was pure luxury. Our mini fridge was stocked daily with bottled water, juices, and beer. We also had a coffee pot and coffee every day. Beds were super comfy and the room came with fresh robes and slippers. There were three of us so one of us slept on the pull out, which was just as comfy as the bed. I could find zero fault with the luxurious room, amenities, view, and service. It was fabulous! The restaurants were beyond incredible, food was the best we have had at a resort, and we have stayed at many. There is a wait for the ala carte restaurants but we simply sat at the bar and had drinks until we were called. Perfection. I highly recommend the chocolate martini's and the espresso martini's. The variety of drinks, food, and service was impeccable. The pools and grounds. OMG. Seriously, it's like heaven. The pictures online don't even begin to do it justice. Huge, clean, elegant pools surrounded by crystalline lagoons and bridges. The grounds are kept immaculate. I can't even begin to tell you how beautiful this resort is so check out the pictures and then imagine it ten times more beautiful. We used the amenities at Colonial (entertainment/restaurants) so with all three resorts, it is enormous. We took the trolley between resorts a lot, or walked the beach between them. This was one of the best vacations we have ever had so will definitely be back and have already recommended it to all our friends as as a resort they must book. Thank you Cheap Caribbean and Palladium Resorts. Next time we will stay even longer. A week in this little slice of paradise is definitely not enough!

Great Reaort

My husband and I stayed at the Grand Palladium White Sand Resort from 2/9 through 2/16. We had a great time and would recommend this resort. Only 2 restaurants require reservations (fish and hibachi). The food, room, service, and drinks were good. The resort is large; while it is walkable, shuttles are available, just very hard to get one to take you somewhere. My only suggestion to management would be to decrease the promotion of the spa around the pools. As soon as we arrived and checked in, someone was in the lobby trying to sell us spa services. We were tired and hungry after traveling most of the day. We just wanted to eat while we waited for our room, the spa salesman followed us around trying to get us to buy a valentines special. The spa promotions, didn’t stop there! They walk around the resort especially the pool area throughout the day trying to sell packages. I get it they have a job to do, and want to make money. At the same time, we just wanted to relax and not be hounded throughout about the spa. Very annoying and off putting! Other than that, I would stay there again!

Resort Update
Palladium Hotels & Resorts has announced plans to upgrade its Riviera Maya Complex throughout 2017, including incorporating the current Grand Palladium Riviera Resort & Spa into The Royal Suites Yucatan. This transformation will be completed in various phases starting on June 1, 2017. Construction will mostly take place within the current Grand Palladium Riviera Resort & Spa and will have minimal impact. All guestrooms within the hotel, the rocky walkway along the water & the salt water pool area will be closed to all guests during the completion of the project. All other areas including the Riviera Lobby, Disco & Theatre, El Jardin Restaurant and the current The Royal Suites Lobby will be closed during certain dates listed below. During times of closure, the areas will not be accessible to guests and should therefore not impact the guest experience.

Below is a complete project timeline:

Disco & Theatre:
June 1-November 1, 2017: Construction will be in progress in the Disco and Theatre of the current Grand Palladium Riviera Resort & Spa. During this time, alternate entertainment venues will be provided to guests. Once construction to the Disco and Theatre are complete, the Disco will convert to become one of four exclusive restaurants available to guests of The Royal Suites Yucatan and the Theatre will become the second exclusive restaurant providing guests with a Dinner and Show themed experience referred to as the Cabaret.

Riviera Lobby and Kabah Buffet:
June 1-September 15, 2017: Construction will be in progress at the current Riviera Lobby which will convert to the new The Royal Suites Lobby. Guests will not be affected by this construction since all guestrooms in Riviera will be closed. All hotel services will be available at the adjoining White Sand, Colonial and Kantenah Lobbies.

Construction will also be in progress at the Kabah Buffet. During this time, breakfast, lunch and dinner will be available at La Laguna as well as the other restaurants within the Riviera Maya Complex.

The renovated Kabah Buffet will feature 2 separate sections (1 buffet exclusively available to guests of The Royal Suites and 1 for guests of Grand Palladium).

El Jardin Restaurant & the current The Royal Suites Lobby:
September 16-December 1, 2017: Construction will be in progress at El Jardin restaurant and the current lobby of The Royal Suites. The current lobby for The Royal Suites will convert into 2 separate a la carte restaurants. By this time, the new lobby for The Royal Suites will be open at its new location and the buffet will be available at Kabah.

Environmental Levy Fee
The Municipalidad of Solidaridad in the Rivera Maya is one of the most beautiful places in the Mexican Caribbean. Tourism has been instrumental in driving the economic and social development of the region. In an effort to continue to preserve, conserve and beautify the destination, the Municipality of Solidaridad has implemented a small environmental levy on visitors effective September 1, 2017. Hotels will collect 20 Mexican pesos per room per day on check out; the proceeds will be deposited in an environmental trust to fund local projects. The Municipalidad of Solidaridad thanks you for your understanding and support of this worthwhile endeavor. Thank you and enjoy your visit.
