Great Vacation
My wife, and I went to this resort because my daughter's friends said it was amazing...and they were right! From the moment we stepped onto the resort to the second we left we were treated with respect and kindness. The room was very clean, and was to our liking. The hotel itself was organized and clean too. The staff there were very accommodating to us. They would be honest with us when it came to booking excursions, and the safety outside the resort, It was great that we could go back and forth between the sister resorts to check out the other side. The beaches were not rocky at all and not too crowded either. The food selection was to our liking, and we never had to wait to be seated. Overall, it was a great vacation, and I would stay here again.
You are treated so nice. The only complaint is the sales pressure for excursions and the TRS time share ( even though they say it isn’t a time share) if it walks like a duck...
This is a great hotel, it’s a big resort, takes a little bit to figure your way around. It’s great that your not limited on the al a cart restaurants. ( like other resort are doing). The only bad part was the vacation club people. They stand right behind you as soon as you check in. We did go see what they were offering and IN return we were getting a day pass to the spa. So we met with the 1st guy who showed us around (he was very nice) then he turned us over to his supervisor/negotiator. He was rude, argumentative, pushy, and confrontational. Would not answer our questions. We got so upset that we got up and left, we did not even stay to get our gift after we sat there an hour and half. The man needs to be fired.
We arrived after a long day of travel and were greeted by the front desk staff who had welcome drinks in hand! Our check in process was easy and the bell staff took our bags and us to our rooms. Our room was a Jr. Suite and it was very roomy as was the balcony. The property is HUGE and has "sister resorts" where you can use their amenities and restaurants as well, which is nice, with the exception of TRS, which is an adults only area. You had to specifically be a guest at TRS to use their pools.
The entire resort was kept very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The shows at night in the lobby were fun to watch and they put on a different variety of shows from night to night. Bar staff was friendly and friendly with their pours!
The buffet dining was great if you got there when it was fresh, otherwise there were times the food was soggy or cold. The desserts were less than desirable on the buffets, with the exception of the ice cream. the Hibachi grill was ok, the waiter really makes the experience in this setting. The Brazilian restaurant, steakhouse and the Poseidon restaurants were all good experiences.
The beach is right at the tip of your fingertips and in October, when we went the seaweed was not bad at all. In fact it was almost non existent. The carts to shuttle you around run every 10 minutes so don't freak out if someone passes you up, another will be by shortly. We had an issue with the shuttle who was to return us to the airport, and the bell staff saw the frustration and helped us out tremendously by obtaining us taxis and explaining that we were running short on time. They also explained their policies with shuttle services and assured us the issue was not on our end.
I also had to visit the Dr on site at the resort. She was very friendly and professional and got me fixed up quickly with meds and I was feeling better in a day. She also kept me from having to have an ER trip while I was vacationing, which was appreciated!
All in all, the resort is very accommodating, clean and if you're traveling with family, it is family oriented. I would recommend this resort!

Do you provide shuttle service from the airport?4 answers

Private roundtrip airport transfer service can be purchased for an additional charge with your CheapCaribbean.com vacation package.
MariaCC
it was extra but so worth the price for the transport...buy it!
rosarita
Yes they do. But you have to select it when booking your trip.
It is 1 1/2 hr ride from the airport to the resort. That would be $136. USD if you take a taxi one way.
AndreandSasha
the hotel doesn't, but cheapcaribbean offers it to you, buy it is 100% worth it, I also recommend buying the tours from them or at the hotel lobby, AVOID people at the airport.

Grand Palladium Colonial Resort & Spa is located 50 miles south of Cancun International Airport (CUN), 20 minutes from Playa Del Carmen and seven minutes from Akumal.

About an hour, but if you take the AMStar shuttle that Cheap Caribbean books, you're with a bunch of other people from different resorts. It will take longer.

How far is the hotel from the pool/beach?4 answers

Bambi
Grand Palladium Colonial Resort & Spa sits on a gorgeous white, sandy beach lined with palm trees. The distance from the beach or pool will depend on where your room is located. The resort does offer a shuttle service to help get around as well.
KristenCC
its on the beach and has a large pool
rosarita
No worries. They have 5 pools and a salt water pool and the beach is all around you. It's very close to the rooms. If on the off chance u feel it's not close enough there are trolleys that come around every 15 min to take u anywhere you want to go.
AndreandSasha
It is right on the beach. Now, where your room is on the resort is a different question. The resort is HUGE.

What kind of outlets are in the room?2 answers
5 years, 62 months ago

Most outlets are standard 2 prong (127V). You may need to bring adapter/converter if your appliances are 3 prong.

There are standard American outlets in the room, but just 2 or 3 per room (at least we could only find 2 or 3).

Is Grand Palladium in Rivera Maya Mexico accessible for wheelchair?3 answers
4 years, 60 months ago
Zhanna
Yes, the resort does have Handicap Facilities/ Rooms, which are available on request. The resort is also Wheelchair Accessible.
KristenCC
Yes. Saw several people in wheelchairs throughout the week.
Funtrip
Yes. Mostly.
Each building of rooms had first floor wheelchair access. All of the boardwalks and such were single level and most did not have steps. There was even a boardwalk down to the beach and a wooden area for the wheelchairs although this area was small.
Word of warning, it is a large resort and many of the boardwalks are somewhat uneven. I would think the small front wheels of a standard wheel chair might be difficult on those.
EmptyNestersMI
Are there any standard rooms near the beach3 answers
If so what building would we request
4 years, 59 months ago
Biloxi ms
Building Blocks 30-32 appear to be closest to the beach.
CCGreg
Only in the Rivera Maya section of the resort. Most rooms have a jungle view due to the position of the buildings.
Funtrip
Very few buildings are close to the beach. The "Mayan Suites" of the Colonial are closet to the beach. Some have a partial view.

Not much difference except location. You can use all the facilities at each (except the VIP section). Colonial pool has a bit more children. Colonial and Kentenah were recently renovated. Colonial and White Sands are in the middle so it's a little closer to get around.

How many a la cartes do you get for a 7 night stay?3 answers
4 years, 58 months ago
Pittsburgh, PA
It is limited to 3 dinners for a 1 week stay.
Shane99
As many as you'd like! They don't limit the number of times you go to ala carte. The ala carte restaurants are first-come, first-served, except for the hibachi restaurant (Sumptori, I believe), which takes reservations 24 hours in advance.
MoeCat
You can eat as many places as many times as you can possibly eat...4 times a night is fine if you can fit it

The front desk just advised us that there is no limit to ala carte reservations. However you can only make 1 reservation a day. For more information please contact the resort directly.
CaitlinCC
The ala carte meals are unlimited, but there can be a wait if you go around the dinner rush (~7PM). The hibachi restaurant is the only one that requires reservations.
MoeCat
Ala carte meals are unlimited however some (3, I believe) require reservations in advance. Unless you are a member you must make the reservation early in the morning the day before you wish to dine there for supper...and members get preference.

As many as u like. But only with those restaurants you need to make reservations 24 her in advance.

I don't believe they have room service, but they do stock a mini-fridge in your room with bottled water, soda, and beer daily. We had a night where my friend didn't feel good and stayed in the room while we went to dinner. We explained the situation to the host, who let us take a plate of food back to the room for her.

Only the hibachi restaurant (sumptori is the name, I think) takes reservations, otherwise it is first-come, first-served. We found we were able to get seated fairly quickly if we went to dinner before 6:15ish or after 9:00, otherwise there can be ~1 hour wait.
MoeCat
There's only one restaurant that requires reservations and you can do it that morning if you want. It's a fish and rice restaurant.

s there any events during the week such as white night or anything?5 answers
4 years, 56 months ago
donnamarie
The resort does have nightly entertainment, however, they do not have specific theme parties.
KristenCC
Several different theme nights/events - but poorly posted. It would have been nice to have been sent a schedule of these events (or have them posted on the website) so one could plan for a "white & fire" [dressed] party.
Melissa007
Local vendors selling their wares is the closest thing to a white night.
Funtrip
Yes there quite a few. At checking they will give you all of that with your room keys. There is a disco EVERY NIGHT, and yes they do have white parties.
AndreandSasha
Yes, they have nightly events every day of the week. They seemed to start very late, like 11 and such. That was kind of late after being in the sun all day for us, but the white party we went to on Monday night was decent. Lots of dancing and music. I didn't go to any events at the other resorts, but I know one of the adjoining resorts has a nightclub that is 11-2 and only 18 and up.

Yes, as much as u want. Free. The resort water is safe, all restaurants have filtered water, we drank it. But we didn't drink from faucets in room (like when brushing teeth, showering) just to be safe. It's exquisite there, GO.
1horselover365
Yes, they provide bottled water. In fact, there is a small sign in the bathroom that says that the water is not potable. So, we only drank the bottled water. The water that is served in the restaurants is good water. We had no problems.
JudyC
Yes, bottled water is available. For more information, please call us at 1.800.915.2322.

The water in the resort is filtered so it's safe to drink (from my experience). But they do offer I believe 4 bottles of water a day in the mini bar and don't charge you unless you need more than that.

Yes 4 liters a day in your room

In the Kentanah lobby they have a huge gift shop and their things are priced much lower than the stands they set up nightly and the beach stands they have daily. All Inclusive?5 answers
What type of services will I have to pay for? Food etc?
3 years, 42 months ago
North America
This hotel is All-Inclusive, these features include accommodations as selected; all meals and snacks; unlimited domestic alcoholic beverages, juices and soft drinks; taxes and gratuities. However, while this hotel includes unlimited food and drinks, some dining restrictions may apply. Please check with the front desk for details. Spa services, excursions, and some activities are available for an additional cost such as windsurfing, sailboat and catamaran courses, excursions, deep-sea, fishing, and scuba diving.
JeannieCC
You don't have to pay for any food items, that I am aware of. The only services we had to pay for during our stay were the massages from the spa. It was truly worth it though. We tipped quite a bit too, but it's not required. Any outside excursions are all on you as well.
Goteamcelia
The use of the spa, extra waters in the fridge but they refill everyday for free. You need money for bottles of wine, and tipping your waiters, otherwise it is all included in the resort.
Megs1988
All food is free. In the restaurants you would only pay if you wanted a bottle of wine or champagne with dinner. They have house wines and champs that are included. The spa is extra and all excursions are extra. Room service is free. If it is an extra charge they will tell you and have you sign a receipt and it will be charged to your room and you pay at the end of the trip at check out.
MzLuvly87
Food, most alcohol and a most activities are included. You have to pay if you want wine. Some ocean activities are not free. Room service is included. The spa is not included.

Yes - we saw a little bit of everything, but did not go to the a la carte restaurants.
SuziQ09
Yeah the restaurants although the servers acted like it was fancy, was pretty casual. There were people wearing shorts and t-shirts. No beach attire by any means but you don't feel like you have to get dressed up every night.
DL19
Yes, I saw women wearing capris during dinner at these specialty restaurants. I think they're fine with most things so long as you're covered up and wearing actual clothes (I don't think bathing suit cover-ups are allowed)

3 years, 42 months ago
shelly787
Room service is available between 11 am and 11 pm. This is included in your stay, however dining restrictions may apply. Please see the front desk for further details.
JeannieCC
it is available and it is included.
Alex86
Yes it is included and free, if it costs extra for something it will be mentioned in the menu. However, the food they serve is equivalent to the beach side bar food and not very good. We ordered it twice. It takes a very long time to get there as well. It was not very warm when it arrived either.
MzLuvly87
Yes, room service is included. Portions tended to be smaller on most items. Chicken burger was the only big food ticket item. Not really an issue though. Just order more....its all included.
ConcordO
There are premium options at an additional cost but most everything is included in the all-inclusive and room service (unless getting the premium things like bottle service for example) is included. Currently it's 11am to 11pm.

What can the resort credits be used for?4 answers
3 years, 42 months ago
Nmk
This varies depending on what the resort is offering, all of the information will be available under a little question mark when you're going through the booking process. Most of the time they are coupons to be used towards a portion of the cost for room upgrades, bottles of wine, spa services, etc.
JeannieCC
The credits are really coupons off of something that isn't included. I don't remember the exact amounts but it would be like $30 off a $500 romantic night on the beach.... so not exactly worth it. I only used the coupons they had for wine which was $10 off a bottle of wine. Coupons cannot be combined. The cheapest bottle they had was like $25 so I spent $15 on wine at dinner one night.
DL19
Credits can be used for the spa , dinner on the beach , bottles of wine ,also used at the gift shops, room up grades & Palladium dollars we used ours to put towards excursion cost $50 off
LadyLibra
Can only be used for specific items in the gift shop. Can use for the spa, wine, and some other things but they are effectively coupons. You must spend X amount and you get a percentage off.

What do the resort credits include? Is it actual credits that you can use for free tourist attraction and Spas services or is it a percent off if you purchase something else?
3 years, 40 months ago

Resort credits are used for discounts off of additional amenities such as bottles of top-shelf wine, spa services, etc. These generally do not offer these items for free but for an amount to be used towards the purchase of. The specifics vary based on when you book for which travel dates, the details will be listed on your travel documents after booking.
JeannieCC
The resort credits are more like coupons you use towards purchases
poberman
The credits are a coupon you can use at the resort for money off a purchase or service.
Natlucci
It is a % off if you purchase something.

They give you a list of what they can be used for when you arrive. They are usually just a percentage off of something...Not really a wonderful deal.

Any top shelf liquors they have available would come at an additional cost. For a comprehensive list of alcohol brands, please contact the resort directly as this is always subject to change.

Absolute - ly, for vodka drinkers. Beam yourself up if you like bourbon. Captain Morgan will be your guide (he was mine and never led me astray). Top shelf stuff - may not have YOUR favorite brand, but they serve suitable substitutes.

yes, but you have to request it.
EnJoyYoSelf
There are some places you can get it, mainly the members do. I didn't see a whole lot at the regular bars. They don't let you really pick what liquor you want. They do have duty free places in the airports for purchasing the top shelf at very good prices, however, you can only bring back a certain amount upon departure.

It's an all inclusive resort, so alcohol is included. I will say though, that if you go eat at a specialty restaurant, they do have a premium wine list that is not included in the AI price, so you would have to pay extra for that. All other alcohol is included though.

There is a swim up bar at the pool! Bring a thermos thing if you'd like to use it in the water to carry around in the water.
SarahFormont
Yes. A very cool and wet bar is adjacent the main swimming pool.
tatterteel
Yes there is one at the main pool.

Do you have the bean bag toss game, a game with 2 boards with 1 hole and 4 bean bags?5 answers
We are going as a group and love the bean bag game!
2 years, 33 months ago
Sabattus, Maine
I've never seen that game anywhere in the Caribbean/Mexico.
CCGreg
Yes, I saw a couple. One by each large pool.
Kobejones
Did not see "corn hole" played at the resort. But there's plenty of other things to do - shuffleboard, tennis, beach volleyball, mini-golf. Take a Segway tour - so much fun!
tatterteel
They do at the White Sands resort which is right next to this one. That is the only corn hole game I saw available to the public. They may have them elsewhere, but I didn't go to every place.
MzLuvly87
Yes, they have corn hole to play.

With the resort so big, when you want to travel outside the resort do you have to walk to a bus stop and if you do how far do you have to go.5 answers
2 years, 33 months ago
tina
You could walk to a bus stop or get a cab (usually the concierge can assist with this). As for distance, it depends on room location.
JeannieCC
The cabins are connected by walkways through the jungle to the main building where tours depart. Depending on your cabin's location, the walk may be 5 to 10 minutes and is not strenuous. Your tour departure is efficiently arranged by the resort staff once your arrive at the main building. Just let them know where you're going and take a seat. They'll call you forward when it's time to go. Have a great vacation!
tatterteel
Once you figure your way around each resort is just a short walking distance. You can also call to have a golf cart pick you up at your room or walk a short 2-3 min walk to any of the lobbies and get a ride from there.
Britt1234
The resort has a train and golf carts that take you to different areas of the resort itself. If you want to travel outside the resort you can set up a taxi or travel bus at the lobby and the taxi will pick you up right at the lobby of your resort so you don't have to wander around looking for a bus stop. Everyone is super nice as well so if you have no idea how things work (like myself) they will help you in anyway possible.
Yoamormexico
I don't know about public transportation in that area, but I will say that I saw a taxi pull up to the lobby to take a couple off of the resort.

JeannieCC
No. The shuttles only take you between the different lobbies within the same resort.
BeachLady80
The golf carts within the resort will take you to each, yes. Three total that are accessible to all guests. The Royal Suites is under construction and will separate from the Grand Palladium in the near future.
LCS2
There are shuttles that takes you to the other hotels, but they are all within walking distance. We basically walked everywhere but when we did take the shuttles there was either no or very little wait time.

Is seaweed a problem on the beach
2 years, 26 months ago
Overland Park, KS
The seaweed wasn't bad when we were there - Sargassum weed is seasonal - and they raked the beach daily.
jswwrites
Yes, there is seaweed on the beach. I'm a pool person, so it doesn't matter to me. We did enjoy snorkeling from the beach. There's a lot of coral--a great environment for fish.
Julidee
I don't know about snorkeling. It was red flag days every day so never had a chance to check it out. Seaweed was a definite problem when I was there in February 2018
BeachGirl123
Depends on the day and wind condition. My son snorkeled right off the beach
Davewiese
Yes. Reefs with lots of fish right from beach!

Resort Update
Palladium Hotels & Resorts has announced plans to upgrade its Riviera Maya Complex throughout 2017, including incorporating the current Grand Palladium Riviera Resort & Spa into The Royal Suites Yucatan. This transformation will be completed in various phases starting on June 1, 2017. Construction will mostly take place within the current Grand Palladium Riviera Resort & Spa and will have minimal impact. All guestrooms within the hotel, the rocky walkway along the water & the salt water pool area will be closed to all guests during the completion of the project. All other areas including the Riviera Lobby, Disco & Theatre, El Jardin Restaurant and the current The Royal Suites Lobby will be closed during certain dates listed below. During times of closure, the areas will not be accessible to guests and should therefore not impact the guest experience.
Below is a complete project timeline:
Disco & Theatre:
June 1-November 1, 2017: Construction will be in progress in the Disco and Theatre of the current Grand Palladium Riviera Resort & Spa. During this time, alternate entertainment venues will be provided to guests. Once construction to the Disco and Theatre are complete, the Disco will convert to become one of four exclusive restaurants available to guests of The Royal Suites Yucatan and the Theatre will become the second exclusive restaurant providing guests with a Dinner and Show themed experience referred to as the Cabaret.
Riviera Lobby and Kabah Buffet:
June 1-September 15, 2017: Construction will be in progress at the current Riviera Lobby which will convert to the new The Royal Suites Lobby. Guests will not be affected by this construction since all guestrooms in Riviera will be closed. All hotel services will be available at the adjoining White Sand, Colonial and Kantenah Lobbies.
Construction will also be in progress at the Kabah Buffet. During this time, breakfast, lunch and dinner will be available at La Laguna as well as the other restaurants within the Riviera Maya Complex.
The renovated Kabah Buffet will feature 2 separate sections (1 buffet exclusively available to guests of The Royal Suites and 1 for guests of Grand Palladium).
El Jardin Restaurant & the current The Royal Suites Lobby:
September 16-December 1, 2017: Construction will be in progress at El Jardin restaurant and the current lobby of The Royal Suites. The current lobby for The Royal Suites will convert into 2 separate a la carte restaurants. By this time, the new lobby for The Royal Suites will be open at its new location and the buffet will be available at Kabah.
Environmental Levy Fee
The Municipalidad of Solidaridad in the Rivera Maya is one of the most beautiful places in the Mexican Caribbean. Tourism has been instrumental in driving the economic and social development of the region. In an effort to continue to preserve, conserve and beautify the destination, the Municipality of Solidaridad has implemented a small environmental levy on visitors effective September 1, 2017. Hotels will collect 20 Mexican pesos per room per day on check out; the proceeds will be deposited in an environmental trust to fund local projects. The Municipalidad of Solidaridad thanks you for your understanding and support of this worthwhile endeavor. Thank you and enjoy your visit.
