Well Worth the Ride

The resort was nice, clean and very well maintained. It was like being in the jungle, there were monkeys, large rabbits?, iguanas and raccoons. They were shy and would run off when anyone would approach. The pool was perfect, the staff was pleasant and professional. The room we had had an odd odor, a little dank in my opinion but still clean. The only downfall was that the night we arrived (11pm) the only food option was the 24 hour snack bar. Looked like 7/11 food, but tasted good. The only complaint regarding the snack bar is the raccoons. They say not to feed them but when we sat down we were surrounded. One even crawled up on my boyfriends lap and pawed at him (like a child) for food. I was creeped out, so we left starving. There was only one waiter on staff and he’d shoo them away but they’d come right back as he had a bunch of other things to deal with. There is an option to purchase internet access, if you buy it, which we did, you get WiFi throughout the resort. With the package we got, we had 2 or three restaurant meals. Otherwise you’d have to eat at the buffets. Well, the downside was you had to make a reservation to eat at the restaurants, but there were almost no reservations available. Apparently, according to the grapevine, people call months in advance to book their restaurant reservation this eats up all the reservations and leaves almost none for people like us who show up on their arrival day.

Nice place but service not as good as others

I’ve been on several all-inclusive trips and this was the only one where they did not serve drinks to the people at pool or beach. Worse than that, the line for drinks at the bar was often very long. The food was good but the Christmas Eve dinner was not nearly as good as other resorts where I’ve had crab legs, lobster , etc. The rooms are nice and the shuttles come often. The michAel Jackson show was great. It was a good resort but not the best, especially due to slow service

Worst Caribbean Purchase Ever

There are 3 resorts in this huge complex. The resort we visited is called Grand Bahia Principe Tulum - over 2 hours on bus from airport to resort - no one to greet us at reception and not even a welcome - internet costs to use, except in the lobby - they do not use real fruit to make drinks, they use powdered lime or liquid of some type to make drinks, terrible taste and so sweet - same food daily, nothing different; other resorts we've been at offer a different theme per night - staff's English is not good - staff is over worked, they were completely overwhelmed; this is Christmas season, hire the enough staff to handle the extra visitors - they use keys and removable locks for room safe, what! upgrade to electronic room safes; also the rooms are dated everything seemed to be falling apart. - first room had issues, patio door would not lock(note: no screen doors on any of the rooms), water would completely shut off during showers, ants in closet along with lizard living in the closet, they could not fix the water flow issues - second room; we moved to another room 5 days into the visit which had terrible beds(smelled like urine), more insects living in room, noise from rowdy travelers at 3am every night was unacceptable; the management staff tried to make it up the final night of stay by providing a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries while we were out on the final night; but when we arrived at the room the strawberries were covered in 100's of ants, totally gross and it was to late in the night to drink the champagne, but I give management for trying, not - beaches were covered in seaweed every morning, it took staff half the day to remove, it made the beach unusable, unless you wanted to swim with seaweed - we are experienced travelers taking a number of trips this year including visiting Mexico twice, California, Crete Greece, and Malta plus a number of inland European trips. This resort may be good for the novice traveler but not for the experienced. If you are experienced and have already booked try getting an upgrade to the Luxury resort they have. It may be better. - This resort is a 2 out of 5 at most and that may be a reach so remember that other ratings you see may be from the other 2 resorts

Tourism has been instrumental in driving the economic and social development of the region. Hotels will collect 20 Mexican pesos per room per day on check out; the proceeds will be deposited in an environmental trust to fund local projects. The Municipalidad of Solidaridad thanks you for your understanding and support of this worthwhile endeavor. Thank you and enjoy your visit.
