Families Beware

Beautiful setting however not really for families and a little worn down Only 3 of the many restaurants will allowed kids. My kids 15 & 10 just gave up and only wanted room service after we visited all the restaurants they were allowed in. Not many places for kids to hang. The seaweed was out of control but we expected it as we went in July. The beach was extremely small as well. Service was mediocre. a lot of the workers seemed grumpy. I felt like I was bothering people sometimes. Some had smart mouth answers when asked questions or for services. I asked for extra water for the room and the guy asked me “well how much do you need you already have 4 bottles”. We had 4 people in our party. I had problem with the room we received verses what we thought we were getting and went to the front desk. I made a comment asking him if he understood how long we saved to have this vacation and he responded with a “whatever” look on his face saying “I’m sure not as long as it would take for someone saving that lives in Mexico”. wow He actually made me cry because I felt he had formed his opinions of me and had no interest in hearing my questions about my accommodations. We had to ask for robes and slippers. We also had to ask for lounge chairs for balcony. Had to ask for towels to be replaced. Unless you can get a ground floor room with walkout into the pool it is not worth it for families. I’m not even sure if it would be worth it then because of the limited kid activities and kid dining. Not at all the same experience or service that we had at the sister resort Nickelodeon Punta Cana. Extremely disappointed.

Generations Name is not Accurate

We are seasoned family vacation travelers to Mexico and Carribean. We had great expecatations having been to other properties owned by this company with extended family and had a great time. The simplest statement is their website is Purposefully Inaccurate. 1. When we left for vacation Website says 11 pools there is 1 large pool area. Which you see on their picture. It is an all day pool party with very loud music and no place to escape including your room since they all face the pool. They updated the website and it currently says 2 pools. 2.Website prior to our vacation stated 20 Restaurants. This is not true, Generations has 3 dinner restaurants, Japanese, Indian and a Wine pairing venue. The menus are fixed with no specials so for 7 nights you are extremely limited. There are many other restaurants at the sister property but families are NOT allowed. Must be 18 or older. We have two teens 18 and 17 and were repeatedly told we could not even walk on the other property. 3. The beach description and photos are completely false. The beach in front of Generations is Brown with neverending seaweed. The hotel tries very hard to clean it up but they are fighting a loosing battle. It is very sad but, the ocean smells bad from seaweed and you cannot swim. 4. Website claims 4 bars. There is one at the pool during the day. At night there is 1 bar, and with 1 hour waits at restaurants we went to wait and have a cocktail at SLING we were told we could not sit in the bars lounge area with our teens to wait. Security was called and five security guards surrounded my family. 5.The hotel has NO land. You cannot take a walk unless you cross into sister property. Even on the beach which is public in Mexico our teens were harrassed just for trying to take a walk we were surrounded by security with calls for back-up when walking with us on beach together. One Note is the staff is truly wonderful. But, Bottom line too many other wonderful options that do accomodate families to go here again.

Great service, room, and food hotel

We loved our time at Generations. The rooms are top notch comfort and design. It's well thought out for quiet sleeping. The dining options are some of the best we have experienced in all-inclusive resorts. Great food and service. Top shelf alcohol brands available. Avoid the poolside grill though - the food is simply okay there, but not to the level of the other restaurants. The design of the pool and rooms does tend to lend to an echo-effect from activities around the pool. The hotel doesn't have a gathering place - no real hotel lobby or comfortable seating areas other than the pool. So entertainment at night is by the pool and can be quite loud until they end - but it ends at a reasonable hour so as to not interrupt any but the earliest bedtimes. The bars are sparsely attended and don't offer great seating either. This property is connected to El Dorado Royale and Casitas - so overall it is a huge resort that you can visit. We enjoyed the walks along the beach and the sidewalk, as well as having multiple dining options to select from in the resorts. (you must make dinner reservations in advance if you are not a guest at the specific location). This chain offers a butler concept that works well. It is nice to have someone that speaks English to help with any issues with your stay, and look after your satisfaction. We found Beto to be very helpful in answering questions, scheduling room service, and arranging a restocking of the mini bar. You may not like the sandbags and concrete structures in the water. They do a good job of keeping the reclaimed sand beach in place, but it is not a natural appearance. However we did have a nice sand beach. You may not like the smell of the swamp on the land side of the hotel. It is not a problem for the most part, but can be a powerful whiff as you walk along the sidewalk. Other than a few no-see um biting gnats, there were no bugs of any consequence at this location. Their spraying program is unseen and apparently very effective. This hotel is missing out on spectacular evening sunset views from the rooftop. They keep the area for special events - but should consider having an evening cocktail bar with light appetizers on non-event nights. There is no comfortable seating up there. It would be a big hit with the guests if they offered this. They could also build an indoor event center for night entertainment, receptions, etc. Also, everything is indoors for the most part at Generations. At El Dorado Royale, there are outdoor covered restaurants and bars near the beach. It is more of a beach resort feel, filled with palm tree lined sidewalks and pools, whereas Generations seems more like very clean high rise condominiums with swim out pools. It is more about the pools and rooms than the beach in my opinion. Think about what you look for in your vacation - either way this location offers you options for your needs that are very well met by the attentive and friendly staff.

Perfect Get A Way

My husband and I were looking for the perfect quick and excellent get a way.....found it we did! Working with Chris at Cheap Caribbean the entire process was simple and easy from beginning to end. In just a few minutes on the phone with Chris he helped me find exactly what we were looking for.....easy flight, not too far from airport, spatular resort, and all at a fair cost. Arriving in CUN the agents created us with geniun care. Our drive to Generations Riviera Maya was comfortable and safe. And everything at Generations Riviera Maya was way above and beyond everything I could have wished for! If you are looking for : well kept resort, comfortable room with a view of the Caribbean, excellent food, five star service, clean calm ocean waters to soak in, very unique vacation pool - this is the place. I will return again and again. Gratitude to Generations Riviera Maya and Karisma.

What We'd Change

The beach is gorgeous, but there is a shelf of rock that runs under the water so it's not the most swim-friendly - the ten pools are, however.
