Best Eastside Mexico

This was the best all inclusive I have ever been to in the Cancun area. I have three rules for my trip: adults only, direct trip from the airport and a direct flight. This stay was the best I have had on the Yucatán Peninsula. The nightly entertainment was fantastic! The staff is amazing! They enforce The dress codes at restaurants. They kick kids out of the pool. Young dumb drunk idiots stay away. If you are an adult looking for a beautiful relaxing getaway with great service, come here.

Beautiful romantic getaway

Resort is beautiful, well kept, romantically lite at night, and the rooms are large. Ceiling fans and refrig and safe. Loved the adult only because was quiet and enjoyed that there was only 6 buildings of rooms so never overly crowded. The lobby is welcoming with comfy chairs and a high beautiful thash ceiling. Great to sit and drink a margarita and listen to live musicians. each night. Greeted with a cool towel and a drink with fresh fruit at check-in. Warmly welcomed by everyone. The restaurants are good but the buffet was the most flavorful. The beach has a nice amount of sand but not alot of shade canopies and those that are there are for the exclusive members. Lots of beach chairs crammed into a small area and hot so we preferred the one and only pool. Plenty of shade umbrellas at the pool. Bring your insulated mug to keep the drinks from melting. Bartenders had no problem filling them up for us. The resort is decorated with sweet sayings, picture spots with hearts, and it was sweet to see couples in love from age 20 to 60. It was quiet and we didnt hear our neighbors. The balcony looks down at trees only. This resort has no beach front rooms and the lobby and rooms are a distance from the pool and the beach, connected by a beautiful bridge. NOTE the resort does have a sales pitch staff roaming around trying to sell you on an internet based access program, the Exclusive club. You give them an hour and they'll give you a 25 min couple massage. The hotel offers a Privilege class upgrade when you book your room. Which basically allows you to eat at 1 additional restaurant and sit in a designated space on the beach but you literally are just next to the beige beach chairs of the Basic class. Then on the other side of those chairs is the Exclusive class, that is the only spot with shade canopies. There was like 4 only so except for the Exclusive class people, no one else had the option to lay in the shade unless you lucked out and picked just the right palm tree to sit under. Could be really miserable in June I bet. The menus also offer dishes only for the exclusive class and even front row seating near the beach is reserved for the exclusive class. Top shelf alcohol is also only available for the exclusive class. We keep reminding ourselves if we in the privileged class or exclusive class. A selected menu for room service also comes in the privileged rooms so that was nice one morning instead of the buffet. I would prefer that everyone is just treated the same without class distinguishing wrist bands but overall the differences were minimal if you didn't know better. We were celebrating a birthday and they decorated the door and left us a cake in our room so if celebrating, let them know. Beds were comfortable and ac was quiet. We were there end of January and we still got bit so bring bug spray. We didnt see any bugs but obviously they were there. Couple massages were great and you can pay more to lengthen to an hour or to make it deep tissue. Found out after 3rd day, that privilege wrist bands give you 1 hour free in spa per day if you reserve a time. Probably other perks too but they're not listed anywhere. They had an evening entertainment show, like Vegas I guess, inside a separate building but it was extra $$ and really not necessary in our book. A fun disco would've been fun to have there. Listed but I couldn't tell you where it was, even after being there 6 days. Take advantage of the great photographers walking around and then pick pics you like for a reasonable price at the end of your trip. The resort has evening entertainment that can make for great pictures. Lovely place, great people. I'd probably go to another all adult resort before returning cause I like variety and want to be beach front next time but it is a lovely resort with workers working non stop to treat you special. Visit the Tulume ruins and the public beach via taxi and make a day of leisure at your pace. Buy a drink on the public beach under their furnished chairs and umbrellas. Bring your cc for a tour and cash for a cool drink on the beach. Chitzen Itza is about 3 hours away by bus so if have only day I'd recommend Tulume which is 25 minutes away via taxi. We did both trips with a day in between to rest up and both were must do's. The cenote pool was fun to cool off in. No sides to hold onto but a rope to grab after a while since its 35' deep. Travel desk folks are great at this resort with ideas. You cant help but to smile at the coati running around the resort too. Yes I bought a stuffed animal replica for a keepsake.

We had the best time. This is our second visit to this resort, we brought some friends to celebrate my birthday :-) and we felt so welcome. I got a banner on my door the day of my birthday and super delicious surprise cake. we felt we got excellent service. The food is really good, the entertainment was also good. Overall we had a great experience . I definitely recommend it.

Best week at Catalonia - will be back!

A group of 6 mid-30s girlfriends came here for a week getaway and it was PERFECT. We are already talking about going back next year! The beach is the best and just a gorgeous view. You can go on a long walk and not run into any other big resorts or people. We never had a problem claiming beach chairs. We would just have to move them around to all be together but that was easy and we were happy! Bring your beach clips to claim when you go to breakfast. Plentiful drink service on the beach from the best - Cesar!! The natural smoothie juice bar was delicious as well. We didn't go in the pool very much. The pool water was a little cold while we were there - but of course that's just weather dependent. We preferred the ocean set up. But we did spend a lot of time in the big hot tub! Not too hot and just a nice place to hang out with a great view. All of the hotel staff were super friendly and always willing to help us. We had a lot of drinks made for us - and they were happy to oblige! We all thought the mixed drinks were delicious and lots of options! The upgrade to the Privileged is a MUST just for the Beloved restaurant. We claimed a spot there every day for breakfast and the view and atmosphere is the best. Our rooms were nice and upgraded with a couch to spread our stuff on. The bed was a little stiff. The big shower with the rainheads were awesome. We stayed in the 200 Privileged building. It was a 5 minute walk to the pool/beach thru a really cool mangrove forest with lots of Coatis around (don't feed them or they will follow you!) Specifically the Asian restaurant - TAO CAT was our favorite. We made sure to go twice. It's in a really cool outdoor space in the jungle. Overall we thought all of the food was great at the whole resort. Sometimes if you ordered the same things two days in a row, it wasn't the same the second time, but that wasn't a big deal to us. At the Italian restaurant - get the lasagna - so good! And the room service pizza is really good. Room service takes about 30-45 minutes to arrive so just plan ahead. At night usually the pool bar was open around a nightly activity (water show, mariachi band etc) and that was super lively with dancing and party music late into the night. One night we were there it was closed around the poool- so the Cats Disco was open in the lobby at 11pm with a bar and club music. It was also open for a SuperBowl party one night. Other than that it was closed the other 4 nights we were there - but we didn't mind as it's upstairs in a room, where as the pool bar is outside and just a better atmosphere. Getting to and from the airport with CheapCarribbean provided AmStar was super smooth. Van was there to pick us up on time and was a nice ride. Overall - 5 stars. Just such a great trip. We will be going back!

What's to Love

It's an all-inclusive, adults-only escape haven. No kids means more cocktails for you.

The hammocks set up solely for you to chillax on the breath-stealing Xpu-Ha beach.

Diving into uber cool nearby cenotes to get the adrenaline rushing.

Unwinding during the soul-pleasing Mayan purification massage. Ahh.

What We'd Change

The restaurants don't stay open late, but if you work up an appetite shaking your hips on the dance floor, call the 24-hour room service and have a feast at your fingertips in no time.

Why You Should Go

It's an hour from the airport - patience, young jellyfish. You'll be happily beaching soon.
