This is a great resort! It has lots of activities. It is a jungle setting with balconies looking out at jungle and wildlife. The food is a large mostly international selection. It has everything you need at the resort but if you want excursions there are a lot of outside things to do nearby. The staff is excellent.
Great escape. The only things we didn't love were the food (very bland, cafeteria style food) and the Cheap Carbiean "agent" upon our flight being cancelled she said "she would have told us sooner if she had spoken to us more and it was our fault". The flight has not been refunded (6 days later), and the agent was of no assistance. The location was wonderful, relaxing and exceptional service. Be prepared to tip with cash and pack comfy walking shoes! We had an overall wonderful stay.

Just got back from a 9 day vacation with my boyfriend and it was excellent! The beach was beautiful, there are coral reefs in the water so I recommend bringing some snorkel gear, or they sell it in the resort gift shop. Staff was very friendly and helpful, everything was clean, and the food was great. We got the ugrade to privilege and it wasn't really worth it for us. The beloved restaurant was good, but too fancy for us, we liked the buffets better and the privilege section of the beach was no different than the other side. We did get discounts at the gift shops but that was the only plus for us. My advice is spend that extra money on excursions! They are so worth doing. The drinks were okay, nothing that stood out for me, and the better alcohol was for the "exclusive members " But that was my only minor issue. Overall, i recommend this resort.

This resort had probably the nicest beach I've ever set foot on - I'd go back just for that. The dining options were a bit limited, it was a bit of walk to the beach and to the restaurants (in opposite directions) but the pathways were very nicely done.
Honestly, if we hadn't attended the in-house show, it would have been the perfect vacation. The trouble with the show - and the cascading fall-out from it really jaded my view of the resort. That said, the management team did step up and take care of us in the end, even if we had to (basically) fight for it.
All of that being said, I'd go back tomorrow.

Is there a beach bar (alcohol, not just juice) or drink service on the beach at the Catalonia Royal Tulum??10 answers
4 years, 57 months ago
There is no beach bar at this resort. If this is an amenity you are looking for, please call our reservations center at 1 800 915 2322 and one of our agents will be able to assist you.
There are servers who come around periodically, but much faster to run up to the bar yourself. There is a full-service bar that is convenient to both beach and pool. The juice bar is separate.
They have a bar called "Tequila Bar" (they serve beer and have a list of drinks for free) just behind the beach and yes they serve you while you are on the beach. Also, they do have non-alcoholic juice bar on the beach which is great.
The bar is poolside, just off the beach.
Yes - Outdoor bar next to the pool with beach and pool service. Service was awesome.
its not right on the beach but its close. close enough for me. and there are servers on the beach. Grease em up with a good tip and you should be fine.
There is a bar next to the pool, not far from the beach. But waitresses come onto the beach taking orders and serving drinks throughout the day.
Yes, it is located at the pool. There are also servers that go around taking drink orders.
Yes - there is no shortage of drink options/opportunities.
No actual bar bar right on the beach, just the juice bar. We got juice and then went to the pool bar to add a shot of rum. There is constant drink service on the beach though and they always did a great job!
How much extra does the 24-hour room service cost?3 answers
Under the amenities it says 24- hr room service ($)... That means it costs more. How much more? Thx
4 years, 50 months ago
The 24-hour room service is priced per item ordered.
You may need to double check that info. We didn't pay anything for food during our visit. Room service menu kinda sparse though.
Nothing!!! I would tip them but besides that its free. Select menu. After 11 the menu is basically a ham sandwich. But they serve cake 24/7 and you can't beat that.
WHAT KIND OF WATER FILTER SYSTEM DO U HAVE3 answers
3 years, 46 months ago
The resort does have a water filtration system. For more information please contact the resort directly at www.cataloniaroyaltulum.com.
Not sure but we were fine.
There were bottles of water in rooms free and they use bottled water-I saw huge jugs being brought in.
How long is the ride from the airport to the resort?5 answers
3 years, 45 months ago
Catalonia Royal Tulum is located 52 miles from Cancun International Airport (CUN).
about 90 min with 1 or 2 other stops
A bit more than an hour, and if you do shared, you are stopping to deliver other guests to their resorts along the way. Not sure we will do the shared ride again.
About an hour. If you do the shared transfer its longer. We got the shared transfer and it took about 2 hours to get there. We were the last ones to be dropped. but I enjoyed the trip. We checked out the other resorts and we saw dolphins... the ride back we got the shared transfer, we forgot to confirm with the guy the day before. and he came to get us anyways and we were the only ones in the car and it took about an hour.
Depends on how many stops befoe you. You will most likely be the last dropped off because you're the furthest from the airport. Well worth te trip. If you have a coupe of stops befoe you it will take approx 1 hr & 45 mins. Just ask your driver to stop so you can pick up beer along the way. They'll be more than happy to do it. If they take you straight there, it's about an hr.
What is meant by Mexican alcoholic beverages being included in the all-inclusive? Is it standard beer, wine, house liquor?8 answers
3 years, 45 months ago
The term Mexican alcoholic beverages would include any local Mexican brands.
There is a full compliment of alcohol and fruit drinks. The best was the tequila bar. All of it is included.
The beer is corona. No Boston Lager in Mexico... house wine, you could buy brand wine for an additional amount. but the house wine was good!!! they have Captain Morgans, Bacardi, the absolute vodka was for exclusive club people and I am an exclusive club person and I still drank my martinis with the house vodka and it was just fine for me. it was not rock bottom liquor that's for sure. I don't know what a lot of it was but it was taste and suited me just fine. and I'm a drinker!!! lol
It is every restaurant and every drink. No "all inclusive list."
The beer is Mexican beer. We also drink vodka and have always requested and got Sky vodka. The have other liquor brands to choose from. You won't be sorry, everything is is A+
yes, that's exactly what that means. I heard several peopleask for topshelf. They were told it was for upgraded guests only, but in each case they gave it to them any way.
They had one type of white wine, one type of red wine (Mexican wines; I didn't recognize the types) that were okay but not great. Beers were Mexican beers, one was light. Liquors were mid-shelf I would say (Malibu, Sky vodka, Bacardi, ect).
Beers are Corona and Modelo. Wine is a red or white only, not sure of the brand or style, but the red tastes like a shiraz and the white like a cheap chardonnay. Liquor is the standard stuff you'd find anywhere. I drank Bacardi all week. They also have Captain Morgan, E&J, Martini and Rossi, Sauza, and other name brands you'd know. Tequila, wow, they probably have about 10 different kinds!
Is it difficult to get a chair on the beach? Do other guests "claim" chairs with towels early in the morning and come back later in the day?5 answers
3 years, 45 months ago
Beach chair availability does depend upon the resort's current occupancy level.
You can always get a chair at the beach BUT if you want a shady spot, you have to go down at sunrise and put a towel on a chair. Sunrise was wonderful.
They do... I don't get up early so by the time I got up I could always find a chair. and the sand is like silk and the towels are nice so if you don't you lay in the sand... or just move the towel... It really wasn't an issue for us at all and we spent all week on that beach!!!
The resort was not crowded during our stay. We had no problem finding chairs at either the pool or beach.
I read somewhere that they didn't allow "claiming" chairs with towels at the pool/beach. This was never an issue for us, whether we arrived at 8am or 2pm.
Is there a swim up bar in the pool?5 answers

No. But bar in close proximity and there are waiters

Approx 30 minutes away
Do you have nightly entertainment? And if so, can you provide details?4 answers
Do you have nightly entertainment? And if so, can you provide details?
3 years, 44 months ago
This resort offers nightly entertainment, and also has 4 bars/lounges and a nightclub/disco to keep you busy!
around 9:30 every night there is a different show. Latin night, Comedy night, Karaoke night, black light dance show night which was awesome!!! That's was the only one we really really liked. but it was all entertaining. or just go hangout out in the tapas bar. playa is real close they are supposed to have really cool night life...
There are events like music theme night or water circus performance in their pool that are occasionally provided to entertain the guests but there is a permanent discoteque for all guest packages as well as a night club that is cabaret style only for the "privileged package" purchasers.
Can you snorkel at the resort? Water not too rough?5 answers
3 years, 44 months ago
The beach at this resort is great for swimming and snorkeling.
You can snorkel right off the beach. The fish come right up to you.
Snorkel equipment is included. My husband did try it, but saw mostly just fish. Another couple said they saw all kinds of sights when they snorkeled. The water is rough at all!! Perfect!!
You could. Water isn't too rough. But I think there are to many people for there to be anything really cool around. I would go to front of the resort, cross the street and get on the public transport for 3 American dollars and go down to akamal beach and take one of he 20 snorkel tours. I guess your not supposed to go out side the roped area without a guide, and the guide will take you out to the reefs. it was pretty awesome!!! second best snorkeling I've ever done. first being off coki beach in st Thomas!!!
They do not offer and free water sports and the water is fair calm when there is no storms coming.
Does this resort accept American money?9 answers
Also, does anyone know what kind of beer they offer? (my husband wanted me to ask that question)
3 years, 43 months ago
The offical hotel policy in regards to currency is that it does not accept American dollars in cash. Also, most of the beer served at this resort is domestic to the area.
Dollars were accepted everywhere put the exchange rate was bad. The only beer served is Corona
I noticed Corona, and we did have some, not big beer drinkers though. Yes, US dollars but cant make change for american $. I notice you said family trip, this resort is adults only. There are other resorts in the area for familes.
No American money. There is an atm (Mexican money) and everything during the week is charged to room and you pay before checking out,
The beer is Corona and Corona lite. and in the room is medello. go down to Akamal beach and right on the beach is a big bar. I don't remember what It was called but if you are facing the beach its to the right. the have a beer called akamal and its wicked good!!! it was refreshing!!! I think you'll be hard pressed to find anything better than that down there.
And we paid for our excursions with American debit cards, no transaction fee as they ran it as an American charge. Other than that we haven't had to pay for anything as we did all inclusive. There aren't even bills to sign or tip jars out. So no pressure to get you to tip more
I do not drink beer but will tell you that the liquor is very low shelf (quality) They do not use name brands
also the gift shop on the resort does not except American money
Corona and Modelo, both kinds taste way better then they do in the states. Like it was fresh or something
Corona and some other type of dark mexican beer.
The gift shop is room charge only. You can tip in USD if you want to tip at all. As far as accepting USD, there isn't anything else to spend money on inside the resort. Lobster upgrade for $45 at any restaurant is also a room charge. We did a photo session and purchased a CD with our photos, and they required a credit card. They hotel will do currency exchange for you if needed. Hope that helps.
As far as beer, only Corona and Modelo.
Do any of the rooms have ocean views?5 answers
3 years, 42 months ago
This resort does not offer any rooms with an ocean view.
No it does not
No. Its the only Catalonia that doesn't have ocean views. but its got a jungle view and is very nice. I didn't miss the ocean view at all. and it kept the balcony cool enough to sit out on and gave you some privacy.
No, the layout is not so the rooms face the ocean. Its more of a jungle type setting, however the beach is beautiful.
NO rooms have a ocean, bay, lake, pond nothing.
In fact it is a 2 block walk to the beach from your room. This is through a mangrove so you see a lot of trees. ok you see nothing but trees for 2 blocks.
how is the nightlife on the resort? what do they do each night for the guests?
also is it close to playa del carmen?
3 years, 41 months ago
This resort offers several bars that are open until 2am and does provide nightly entertainment to the guests. It is approx. 30 minutes from the town of Playa del Carmen.
There is a show every night and the Disco is open until 2 AM. Staff were there to keep the party going as long as the could last.
The resort is 10 minutes south of Playa Del Carmen.
We are not much about nightlife. However, there is a disco and several bars open at night. There are shows nightly like broadway music, and other live shows. Very close to Playa del Carmen and the staff will help you determine best way to get there. We had a taxi take us to the shopping district it was great $50 altogether and we were able to go when we wanted, return when ready.
Playa is about 25 minutes away. They have entertainment at the resort but not all that great., the music at the disco sucked, they need to update.
not much night life. There was disco but we only went one night for like 6 mins. They did have shows everynight at 9:30. The black light show was really cool. The Latin show was cool. The comedy show was kind of funny. Personally after a full day of drinking and sun and whatever activities we did we weren't looking for any night life. Talk to Zooey in the lobby, she'll take you clubbing.
Yes it is maybe a 15 min drive to Playa. just go outside the resort and hop the public transport into town. Its cheap and easy and runs till 12am I think.
night life sucks. in fact there really is none.
one very very poor show at 9:30 disco at 11:00
not sure how far playa is
There really isn't a nightlife so to speak. The restaurants stay open late, as does the bars. There do have a Discotech in the main lobby and live entertainment from time to time. But really, there isn't the type of nightlife that involves mingling with others. Unless you go to the bars. From what I saw, most people stayed to themselves with the groups they came with. I did not see to many strangers speaking to each other. People are friendly there, so do not hesitate to speak up, just something I did not see happen often.
I did see signs for Playa Del Carmen but did not go. I would assume, based on the signs that it is close enough for a taxi, but I am not totally sure.
nude beach5 answers
is there a clothing optional beach
3 years, 39 months ago
This resort does not have a clothing optional beach.
There is a clothing optional beach down the beach a little ways. The Catalonia beach was not nude but there were lots of topless women and men in speedos. I was raised by prudes and it was certainly different but not in anyway uncomfortable.
there was a few ladies that went topless, but no
99% of people were in American beach attire, but there were 2 people I saw that were topless.
What is the cost from the airport to the hotel? How do we get to the hotel from the airport
2 years, 32 months ago
Round trip shared transfers are offered through Cheapcaribbean.com at $47.50 per person.
We used a transfer service - USA Transfers. It cost us $30 per person each way but it was a private shuttle and took us directly to our resort - no stops at other resorts. There were only two of us. If you have a larger group, you pay less per person. They were very professional and prompt. Would highly recommend them!
We chose to get a public taxi when arriving at the airport, they are readily available. It cost $110 US round trip when arranged before you depart the airport.
It is best to book your ground transportation at the same time you book your reservation. I believe we usually pay around $60 per person, but it is well worth the price. Takes all the stress away because everything is planned in advance.
depends how many people. if 2, you can have a shuttle booked along with the trip. If it's 4 - taxi may make sense.
Can you rent a car at the airport?3 answers
Can you rent a car or is the only source of transportation taxis or shared transportation

Yes you can
There are car rentals as soon as you exit baggage claim.
Is this a smoking free resort? Is it REALLY All Inclusive5 answers
Is this resort Smoke free? If not, are there area you can eat in the restaurants that are smoke free?
Is the resort ALL Inclusive? I have seen some reviews that the entire resort is not part of the ALL inclusive rate?
2 years, 31 months ago
This resort is All Inclusive - it includes unlimited Food and Beverage.
As far as to whether this resort is smoke free, please call one of our Beach Experts for first-hand accounts on what this resort includes. You can reach us at 1.800.915.2322.
You can smoke at the beach. Everything is all inclusive except for the spa and gift shops.
This resort was not smoke free but no one smoked in food areas. They smoked outside on path on benches or in beach or pool chairs. There were not a lot of smokers and if you were by chance by one there were plenty of places to move so you were not near them. The maintenance cleaned the dead cigarette containers all day long so we never saw cig. trash. The insides buildings were smoke free as far as I could tell or I didn't notice smokers which I would have as I hate smoke.
It is NOT a smoke free resort. I saw people on the beach, pool, and restaurants smoking. I did NOT see any smoking inside the restaurants that were indoors. Most restaurants are open air, so the ocean breeze keeps the smoke from lingering.
Yes, it is ALL inclusive unless you personally make additional purchases. I spent time in the spa...that was extra, I bought from the gift shop...that was extra. However, the resort IS all inclusive. The room, the food, the entertainment, the pool, the beach, the drinks (99% of them) are all included. Had I not went to the spa or gift shop I would not of even needed my wallet while I was there. However, bring some singles for tips....that goes a long way there!
I believe all the rooms are smoke free. The grounds around the resort are not. And for some reason it felt like I went when all smokers where there. That was the only bad thing on this trip. People need to quit...

What is freshwater pool?5 answers
The details section states there is a freshwater pool by the beach. What does that mean?
How many pools does the resort have?
2 years, 30 months ago
Freshwater pools use freshwater instead of saltwater. The reason this hotel specified that it is freshwater is because their pool is located close to the beach/ocean.
There is only one pool, but it was very nice. Not sure that it was freshwater but it was clean and clear. No swim up bar, but the bar was very close to the pool.
Its a chlorine pool, as opposed to salt water. There is a big pool, with volleyball on one end, and then another small pool (only about 3 feet deep).
1 large pool, 1 shallow pool with lounge chairs inside
The one big main pool is a "regular" pool, as in it is not a salt water pool. There is a small "soaking" pool in the Executive Club area that had 8 lounge chairs in it and was 1.5 feet deep, but we saw lots of regular guests using it on and off. There is also an elevated hot tub area the is for all the guests. It looks like it is in the BLoved Privileged section, but it is open to all guests.
Is there a charge for room service?5 answers
The Room Service listing has $ next to it, is there an additional fee?

Yes, there is 24 room service available however it is for an additional fee.
NO and the room service is 24hrs
I ordered room service and was not charged. It is part of the all inclusive deal. However, at times certain items (mainly drinks) may have a charge for whatever reason. But that is rare.
No, I tipped ant the end of the week
Room service is free if you upgrade to Privileged
what is the attire I should pack?4 answers
2 years, 26 months ago
a bathing suit and clothes comfortable for lounging and relaxation. It also may be a good idea to bring some casual to formal wear for dining at night.
The weather is hot and humid, esp btn the months of May-Sept. Definitely pack a couple of bathing suits and sandals, and some (2-3) comfy/ nice outfits to go to dinner with your partner. I packed a simple, black dress and a skirt that I could wear with different tops. You also want to pack some comfortable shoes if you're planning to go see the pyramids.
Very casual. A few nice outfits for evening dinners, but nothing lavish.
Swim suits, t-shirts, dress shirts, dress shorts (dresses for the ladies) flip flops and under garments.

What Kind of Beer Is Available?5 answers
My husband wants Coors light =( ... do they offer this here?
2 years, 24 months ago
The resort only serves domestic brands. They do not carry any international brands.
presidente only on tap. our room came with two warm budwisser each day. I hated it, my boyfriend liked it
No coos light...Corona on tap model in bottle and on tap
Many types of beer are available, you just have to figure out which bar serves what kind. As far as Coors Light...I am not sure. Sorry...
In the room, there is Modelo in cans. At the bars, they have Negra Modelo and Corona on tap, and that's it!
I'm looking for hammocks, do the rooms have hammocks? The pool? The beach? Thanks.
1 year, 24 months ago
Hammocks and towel service are available at both the pool and beach. If you have any further questions, you may contact the resort directly or call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.
no hammocks, regular lounge style chairs as well as sitting chairs
Yes hammocks at the beach!
There are a handful of hammocks. A couple are located by a small pool, and a few others are past the pool and down in the sand (but there are beach chairs extending to the beach so they are in between pool and beach). Not in the rooms.
The beach has hammocks. No where else had them.
is there a minimum age. We have a 17 year old4 answers
1 year, 23 months ago
There is no minimum age.
I believe 17 would be considered an adult. However, it is a topless beach so would you be OK with your 17 year old seeing that? If so, I think you should be OK. I would contact the resort just to be on the safe side though.
18 and older only.
It's all adult. 18+
Is there any nightlife in the resort or the surrounding area?5 answers
1 year, 22 months ago
Not much night life in the surrounding area. However resort itself does have a night club and nightly entertainment.
Very little night life.
There is a nightly event by the pool bar, a small "disco bar" by the lobby that has a pool table and dance floor and night clubs are a 20 minute taxi drive to Playa Del Carmen.
No nightlife here, but they try. If you're here to relax, this is the place. You can travel in to town which is about 20 minutes away and party there.
Sort of. Nothing in the area anywhere near the resort. In the resort, there is a show of some kind every night at 9:30pm. Pool side band, singing, circus show, karaoke, things like that. There is a disco that opens at 11pm every night until 2am. There is music, dancing, lounge chairs and couches, pool table, and about 3 big screen tvs.

Yes! There is an outdoor Jacuzzi right on the beach!
Yes, actually this is the first resort that I've been to that has a heated jacuzzi outdoors.
Yes. Fits about 16-20 people.
Are 18 year olds considered adults?5 answers
My husband and I would like to come with our two kids who will both be 18. They are very mature and trustworthy. Wasn't sure if adults only would be an issue or not. Please let us know as we'd like to book a trip in July.
1 year, 18 months ago
Yes, 18 year old are considered adults.
18 is fine. When they say Adults only it is mainly because the beach is topless. And trust me....VERY FEW were topless and most of whom were topless...you would prefer them not to be! As for the men, many of the men wear just speedos or smaller. Basically...there is a real good chance you will encounter more skin on the beach in one way or the other than you would at a family friendly resort. In my week, I saw nothing more than 3 topless ladies, all over 50 years old, a about 50 speedos, 20 were probably to small. However, I can see speedos on a Miami beach so it really is no big deal.
In Mexico, yes.
I don't think so. There were very young people there. However there is not many activities to do for young people. They did have volleyball, water aerobics, and other events throughout the day but not much for young kids. The place itself would be fine for them though!
Sure, lots of daytime sports activities
Is there a topless option at this resort?4 answers
1 year, 17 months ago
Call one of our U.S. based Beach Experts.
7 Days a Week - 5am to 3am EST
I didn't necessarily see any signs and ask anyone about it, but I did see one or two topless sunbathers while there. It just didn't seem to be the norm.
No there is not
Not officially. We didn't see any around the pool. There were always 1-4 ladies on the beach and it seemed accepted. Mostly European guests at this hotel, and it is their culture.
Is the beach a far walk from the rooms?5 answers
On the Google aerial view it looks like the rooms are located quite a walk from the beach.
1 year, 16 months ago
The beach is not a far walk, depending on your room location it would be a short 5 minute-15 minute walk. You can always request that your room be as close to the beach as possible. This is on a request-only basis and cannot be guaranteed, but the resorts always do their best to accommodate requests.
No, it's only a five minute walk. The walkway through the jungle area to the beach is lovely during the daytime, but at night there are colored lights in the trees and it is spectacular!
No, its not bad at all. The resort it self isn't that big. But very nice.
The longest walk is approx 10-15 mins at a slow pace. It's a small, but beautiful resort.
The walk to the beach is probably about a 5 minute walk, but you walk through a rain forest with lots to see.
is there any dress code for restaurants?5 answers
1 year, 16 months ago
There's no official dress code, however here is a link going over the various dress codes. Generally you'd want to follow Casual/Resort dress code.
Just dress nice, you can wear shorts. Be respectful.
You do not need to wear slacks. Thats a big plus for me. But it's customary to wear dress shorts & dress shirt to the restaurants.
They like the women to dress up but nothing fancy- nice summer dress or jumper. Men they like to have shoulders covered- no tank tops but polos and shorts are ok!
I never saw any information about a dress code. Most people dressed in nice casual clothing to dine at the restaurants.

There are bali beds in the Executive Club area buy the little pool. We never saw any EC guests the whole time we were there this month any regular guests used them all the time to sleep or read. I don't specifically remember any of those on the beach though. There are huge beach bean bag type chairs, all weather lounge couches, and hammocks on the beach that everyone can use. No need to upgrade!
Do you have, on the resort ,COORS LIGHT ? It is an American beer for us to drink in the all inclusive?4 answers
What is wrong with this question? How does asking about beer violate your guidelines? Just want that answered
1 year, 15 months ago
This resort only has domestic alcohol as part of the all-inclusive.
The resort has Corona Light and Modelo dark on tap and you get can modelo light in your room that's the only beer option
I didn't ask specifically for Coors Light, but I only ever saw Mexican beers.
They only have Corona and Modelo. Although every time I asked for a Corona, they pulled the Modelo tap. But, it's free beer. If you want Coors or other American, have your taxi or shuttle stop at a store and get a case on the way in and put it in your mini fridge in your room. We did that with a nice bottle of wine.
When it says that the hotel is non-smoking does that mean outdoors as well?4 answers

Upstate New York
They may have certain areas where smoking is allowed. Please contact the resort directly for more information. If you have any further questions, you may contact the resort directly or call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.
There is smoking on the grounds in designated areas.
Yes, smoking is permitted outdoors, however, I could barely tell if anyone was smoking near us. The staff also did an amazing job of cleaning out the ash trays ALL the time.
No; there were quite a few people smoking outside and there were cigarette disposal things along the paths and on the beach that were cleaned every day.

Yes it is!
Type: Pizzeria and Deli

Description: Snack bar located poolside. Try delicious pizza baked in a wood-fired stove, and discover carefully crafted "Delly" products made for your seaside enjoyment (a la carte). Offering sandwiches, pizzas, hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken and potatoes.
Yes. It's still there by the beach bar. It's the snack area by day and an Asian cuisine restaurant by evening.
I believe it is still there! Is it between the pool and the Bloved restaurant? If so, it is.
Yes, that is still an option
Yes, we ate there three times. Great!
Is the privileged upgrade worth the additional cost?3 answers
What do you get with upgrade? Is it worth it?
Whether or not the upgrade is worth it is based upon personal preference. The Privileged rooms include extras like
Wireless Internet access, 2-line Telephone with bathroom ext., free access to the spa wet areas, privileged area at the beach and more.
It was not worth it. Very little offered. Some top shelf liquor.
I felt as though it was worth the cost just for the food alone. The BLoved restaurant is worth it. Also, the 10% off all other resort fees was nice if you plan to spend time in the spa or make any purchases in the gift shop. Also, you get a "private" part of the beach, which is really just a separate roped off section, but it is a bit more spacious and there are beach beds that are first come, first serve which are not available on the other side. Plus, they give you little extras like a fruit basket in your room and sparkling wine and a bottle of tequila.

Unfortunately no. But I bet you could talk some staff into helping to build some!
What's the general age of the guests3 answers
We are thinking about joining our kids ages 25-35. We are in our early 60's. We like to drink & have fun but would like to see other people in our age bracket or older
9 months ago
People of all ages are welcome at this resort. The average age is gonna vary depending on who happened to book a stay for your dates of travel.
There was a wide range of ages here - from young to mid 20's to people well into their 70's. We were in our early 40's and felt as though there was a place for everyone.
We are in our mid-30's and met lots of nice people in their 60's, some still working and some retired. You will be in good company, don't worry! We didn't really see anyone there that looked past late 60's. A lot of Italian's in their 30's - 50's I'd say.
Surrounding area fun?3 answers
I am wondering about entertainment or fun places outside of the hotel that are safe to go to. Has anyone taken a taxi, walked off the grounds? I know Tulum is close by as well a few other cities. My boyfriend love the look of the resort, but we also may want to explore on our own. Is there anything fun close by? are cabs safe?
Tulum, Xel-Ha, XCaret, and Playa Del Carmen are all nearby. Cabs are easy to get and a safe way of transport. You could also set up a guided tour for any of the above activities.
Yes we took several trips off the resort. They have specific drivers they use and will call them for you. Their is a ton of different things to do all over especially a place called Xplore fuego. Its a park, everything was well organized and extremely safe. We also walked to about a mile each way on the beach and loved the sights
Yes it is very safe. We walked up the road one day. There are two amazing cenotes for snorkeling right across the street. I think it was about $5 to get access but well worth it. We took a collectivo (white local van bus) to Tulum one day. Raised a hand on the side of the road and hopped in with about 10 locals and took a ride! It was fun. About $4 to Tulum. Ate at a taco shack along the road spent the day at the ruins. Collectivo on the way back too. No problems and had a blast! We also took a taxi to Playa. About $7 if I remember right. Very safe and easy. They picked us up right at the hotel lobby. No worries there. Very safe area.

Yes, alcohol is included. However, this is generally the local domestic brands, premium liquors would come at an additional cost.

They do offer motorized water sports for an additional amount. Please check with the resort directly as the rates are offered by them. If you have any further questions, you may contact the resort directly or call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.
No, we didn't see any powered watersports at all, or even catamarans anywhere in the bay that the resort is located in. You'd have to go up about a mile or two to the Barceló area to find those.
No - Not at resort - snorkel equipment couple paddle like boats
Priviledge Upgrade Differences?5 answers
Can you tell me the difference in the "privileged upgrade from the junior suite and deluxe room?
Other than the room difference, is there any differences at the pool, beach or restaurants? What exactly do you get with the upgrade outside of the room ?
BLoved Lounge & Restaurant – Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner with organic menú. A la carte
Private area at the beach
Alegria Spa free access to humid areas (jacuzzi, sauna & steam room)
10% off in all the extra hotel services
Late check-out (subject to availability)
Privileged Junior Suite- In addition to the Privileged Deluxe rooms amenities:
On the first day – Fruit basket
On the third day – Tropical fruit & Tequila
Balinese Bed (1 day during stay) sparkling wine, fruit & chocolates
There is a difference with privileged upgrade. Another restaurant and better liquor.
Privilege upgrade gets you access to the BLoved restaurant and bar and top shelf alcohol at all the bars. Also a reserved section on the beach, but it is all the exact same lounge chairs as everyone else gets. I can't speak for the food at the BLoved restaurant as we didn't upgrade, but we saw a lot of people with the Privileged purple wrist bands eating at all the same other restaurants that we were. We also drank Bacardi and other higher end liquors all week. We did not think that the Privilege upgrade was worth the cost. We did get a free upgrade to just the Privilege room though, and it was very nice, ground floor of the middle 3000 building. Zero difference in the pool area.
The privileged beach area also comes with upgrading your room which I highly recommend! The privileged beach area tends to be less crowded and has nice bean bag seats and beds. You are also able to eat at a restaurant called "beloved" which is setup nicely & has great food!
Outside of the room, the upgrade includes a private section of the beach, which is the only area that gets waitered drink service. Also you get an exclusive restaurant that is open for all 3 meals, as well as drinks throughout the day. Included an outdoor-oceanview public hot tub and access to the facilities in the spa.
Is this resort appropriate for a family vacation with my kids that are over 18? or is it more of a couples resort?5 answers
7 months ago
This is an adults only resort so there will be travelers over 18 at the resort. If you have any further questions, you may contact the resort directly or call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.
It is more of a couples resort
We saw lots of families with adult kids. Everyone enjoys a pool and the beach, right?! Lots of couples, but I wouldn't call it a couples resort at all. Just adults with no children or children's activities. There is a pool table, gym, boogie boards, stand up paddle boards, kayaks, snorkel gear, all free.
It is appropriate for your family. We just got back yesterday from a week with our 24 year old sons and 20 year old daughter. We had a nice, relaxing, family vacation.
Your kids will probably be bored unless they can enjoy just sitting around and relaxing. If you throw in some excursions I'm sure they will be happy but all in all this is a resort that caters more to adults that need a getaway from life.
We were there last October and we did not see pool tables or bowling. Where are they located we are coming back in september4 answers

Please check with the resort directly for the most up to date information regarding location of activities at the resort. If you have any further questions, you may contact the resort directly or call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.
There is one pool table upstairs in the lobby in Cat's Disco. Open all the time and free. I never saw bowling anywhere.
We did not see pool tables or bowling anywhere on the property. Only a ping pong table by the pool. There was a net for volley ball in the pool and on the beach.
I was just there this past week and I did not see any bowling but there was an upstairs room by main lobby that said it was a disco but it was not technically opened. You could still go up but there was no a/c so it was exremely hot but i did see a pool table up there and they had multiple tv's playing sports shows.
is there transportation from the air port and what is the cost?5 answers
7 months ago
We do offer airport transportation through a contracted transfer company at an additional cost. If you have any further questions or need help booking, please call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.
Yes, there are numerous shuttles
You can pre-arrange transportation before you arrive for about $120-130 for a private transfer round trip for 2. Or just take taxi service when you get there, about the same cost.
You can arrange your transport by going to Cancun airport website and looking at ground transportation. The hotel itself does not offer airport transfers
CheapCaribbean offers transfers from the airport in Cancun. There are 2 prices. We chose the less expensive shared ride for $65.
Super Saver room4 answers
I have been quoted a price on a super saver room. Can you tell me what we are giving up by getting this less expensive room?
It doesn't look like we are currently offering the super saver room category for this resort.
There are only two room grades, and the upgrade does not (in our opinion) add nearly enough value to make it worth the price. It adds top-shelf liquor, one more restaurant, and a small beach section right next to the rest of the large beach.
The only thing you are giving up is the nicer room that is closer to the ocean. The walk from the farthest building is not far at all so the walk is actually very nice at night.
You would not receive the nicer beach chairs. in the privileged section as well as access to the beloved restaurant.
We just returned from our vacation and only would have upgraded to just go to the restaurant which the menu looked fantastic.
none of the rooms are on the beach they are all in a row in what I called the jungle. The beach is at the end of the row. So building 1 and 2 are close to the road and the front desk and building 5 and 6 are close to the pool and the beach. The super saver rooms are most likely smaller. I do know that building 5 and 6 have recently been remodeled.
Is gratuity included in the all inclusive package5 answers

Gratuity is included in the package
Yes it is but we always tip when we go to all inclusive places because everyone works so hard and is extra friendly at the places we have been to in Mexico. We bring about $150 for tips which I dont think is alot considering the service.
Yes it is. We always bring one dollar bills and tip accordingly. Sometimes service was really good and we really appreciated it and would tip. We tipped at some dinner and not at others. We tipped at some bars and not others. We always did tip at the juice bar on the beach though.
yes, you do not need to tip. However, we did tip at the restaurants, bar and with the maids
yes,,,we never carry cash around but at the end are happy to offer some extra to certain staff and housekeeping for their hard work

Yes, guests can smoke in designated smoking areas.
Yes there seemed to be smoking areas and people smoked on the beach.
Smoking is permitted all over the resort except inside restaurants. We saw people smoking pool side, beach, in the lobby, and outdoor restaurants.

Please check with the resort directly as they may be able to set up a photographer for you. If you have any further questions, you may contact the resort directly or call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.
Yes they walk around with the camera and you can get pictures done with people dressed up but im sure they too private sessions too. I think you can order prints in the lobby near thr gift shop.
Yes! There is an on site photographer group that usually walk around the pool and take pictures with sombreros, iguanas, parrots,...etc. We hired them for a private evening session for my wife and I. The session was free and about 40 minutes long. You go back to the photo shop next to the gift shop in the lobby later, and they show you all your photos. There are many packages to choose from to buy pictures if you choose. Prices are steep! We ended up getting a CD with 8 pictures and two 8x10 prints for $150, but it was very worth it!
Yes - photography services available. Extra fee.
Yes. They walk around during the day to take pictures if you are interested. One day they had a huge green iguana to take pictures with and another day they had a parrot.

No it does not have a swim-up bar, but that was no problem for us since pool drink service was regular, and the palapa bar was right there for walk-up service.
No, but waitstaff will bring your drinks to you
They do not. If you have any further questions, you may contact the resort directly or call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.
No swim up bar, but there are waitresses walking around poolside taking drink orders all day long. They checked with anyone by the edge of the pool too.
They do not. The bar is very close to the pool however.

Do they have shrimp/lobster/steak? And is there a surcharge for those items?

The resort offers many options for food, most will charge extra for lobster. Please check with the resort directly for the most up to date information regarding food selection. If you have any further questions, you may contact the resort directly or call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.
Steak is free at the Steak restaurant for dinner by the beach, about 6 different cuts available. Lobster is available at any restaurant for $45, never saw a size. No shrimp, but they do grill fresh calamari.
There is a charge for lobster. I believe it was $45 dollars for a lobster dinner BUT that was the only thing that cost money. They have a great steakhouse where you can get steak and shrimp for no extra charge.
Surecharge for lobster dinner.
Steak house offers steak - included in price. Shrimp varies on menus.
I did see on menus where the offer lobster but I think it was a $45.00 charge. There is a "steakhouse" restaurant. We ordered the Tbone cooked medium, it came out rare...

Can we book 4 people to a room through Cheap Caribbean? It's only letting me go up to 3 people on Cheap Caribbean's website but the resort website lets me choose 4 people. Why is that?

The room categories we offer allow a maximum of either 2 or 3 adults, depending on room category chosen. Unfortunately we would be unable to book a room with more than 4 people.
I don't know why you can't have 4 people in a room. Many rooms have 2 queen beds.
is this a couples resort? and is the the all inclusive for premium drinks too or just on domestic drinks?5 answers

Please check with the resort directly for the most up to date information regarding drink selection. If you have any further questions, you may contact the resort directly or call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.
Adult resort, there are couples but all are there for the relaxation and peace and quiet. All drinks are included.
Mostly couples but several families with older ( over 18)" children " . Standard all inclusive ( no upgrade) had name brand vodkas ( Skyy, Pinnacle). If you're that concerned about specific brands , pack your own bottle. We saw several people do that.
This is not a "couples only" resort. We saw many friends staying here. It's very welcoming to all guests.
The selection of wine is limited unless you want to pay extra. Most drinks are included but some "top shelf" brands of liquor are excluded.
It is for adults only. No children allowed. We saw many couples there but also saw several families there with their adult children. It was a relaxing atmosphere. No wild, drunken parties or college pranks.
