Pro’s: clean hotel, friendly staff, The pool was amazing, upgraded to VIP, lots of fun activities (pool volleyball, bingo, snorkeling, etc), nighttime fun! We ate from the taco trunk most of the time. It was the only thing my bf would eat very good! Con’s: Food was not good, beach was filled with seaweed (they did have people out there cleaning it at all times) Overall I would go back to this hotel if they changed up there food, The hotel itself was very nice!

Special Birthday Trip

Wish we could give Catalonia all 5 Palms but they felll short in one important area. Arrived approximately 12:30 pm and checked in smoothly. We were told our room wouldn’t be ready until 3 pm. We went to explore the beach and pool area and had a nice lunch at the Crepe Restaurant. Went back up to the lobby at 3 pm to check in but was told our room was still not ready. We relaxed in the lobby area and waited until our room was ready around 4 pm. Our room was very nice as having booked the Privilege Honeymoon Package. Only problem was the air conditioner was not on and the room was very warm. We turned it on and by the time the bellman arrived with our luggage, the ceiling unit was making a horrible noise. The bellman called down to the front desk and told them of the situation. We waited quite awhile for the maintenance man to arrive who after assessing the situation said we should be moved. Calling the front desk, we were told there were no other rooms available and that the maintenance man had no right to tell us we should be moved. At this point, we are hot and tired and just want to freshen up and get ready for dinner. Taking a trip to the lobby, we were told that the maintenance man would work on the air conditioning unit until he got it fixed. We sat and waited while he worked on it with debris and dust falling in the room. He finally got it to work by 7:30 pm but told us to only run it on low as it was a very old unit. We spent the week only running it while we were in the room and turning it off at night and only using the ceiling fan. When we returned to the room the day before we were scheduled to leave, we found the maintenance man again in our room and our room filled with smoke. He told us the maid had turned the unit on and it had caught fire. He said we could not stay in the room. The smell was terrible. We called the desk and again was told we could not be moved. We called guest relations who also was not being very helpful. A trip to the front desk was unproductive so we made our way to the guest relations office where they finally agreed to move us. Apparently there was not one manager on the premises. They acted like they were doing us a great favor because they were moving us to a special unit with a plunge pool on the balcony. By this time, it is the night before we have to leave the hotel at 9 am to get to the airport. The last thing we wanted to do was pack up and move to another room the last night. A Cheap Caribbean rep had called us when we checked in to see how everything was and we told her of the air conditioning situation. We never heard from her again and tried to find her on the resort the following days, but was told she was not there. We were celebrating a special birthday trip and didn’t want to spend our week arguing to try and get moved even though in hindsight we definitely should have. The night before we returned to the fire situation in our room, we returned to our room after dinner and the maid had put the air conditioner on when she did turndown service and we went to bed with in on. If it caught fire during the night while we were sleeping - this could have ended much worse. We feel the front desk, guest relations and the Cheap Caribbean Rep were totally unresponsive and negligent in how they handled this. This could have and should have been a wonderful trip, but their disregard for us was unacceptable.

Great resort

So far best all inclusive hotel in Mexico, riviera Maya for us. Food is good! But you have limited times to go to the restaurants a la carta, depends on how many nights you will stay. In other resorts we were able to go as many as we want. Drinks at the lobby bar are very good, but by the pool and beach bar are watery. Pool has nice comfortable water temperature. Beach is beautiful and not rocky, but seaweed was everywhere during our stay. Night shows are great! Room attendants were cleaning our room 2-3 times a day. Five star !

I can’t say enough great things about this resort!! It is more of a smaller resort but it has all the bells and whistles that a larger one does. You are completely engulfed in the jungle, it’s very peaceful. The beach... SO BEAUTIFUL!! There were plenty of chairs to longe at, there is a bar that is just above, along with a fresh juice bar that is to the side (which was my personal fave!! It’s kind of hidden so make sure not to miss it). The pool was also great! You have your swim up bar, 2 food trucks, one serving tacos and the other hot dogs. There is also a crepe stand that that serves other delicious deserts. Many activities went on through the day, at the pool and beach. The buffets were very delicious, don’t miss Mexican night, it’s the best one!! Wish they did more of a Mexican selection every night. Although the Mexican restaurant by the pool area was DELICIOUS!! That was our best dinner during our stay!! The staff was very kind, accommodating and helpful. We did not opt for the privilege package and we still had what felt like a privilege experience. I believe the perks with that option are top tier alcohol selection, “left side of the beach” which is no different that the right, and a better room. The room was not bad, have stayed in better but would still return to this resort. If you’re a partner this isn’t the resort for you, the “club/disco” at night was not really a hit. We did 2 excursions on our vacation, went through AmStar which was the company linked with the airport shuttle we used. We opted for the shared airport pick up/drop off shuttle through cheapcarribean and it was hassle free and easy! The 3 things I was not totally thrilled about would be the maravillo staff that is there to get you to go to the time share/travelers club presentation. They confronted us the first morning and asked if we received our welcome gift, that turned into them offering a VIP breakfast and 1 free massage but requiring us to attend a presentation. We ultimately opted out. Wanting to spend all the free time at the beach/pool. Plus the buffet was delicious enough we didn’t need a “VIP breakfast. Since we decline we were asked throughout our stay to come and reconsider, it was annoying and I found myself going out of my way to avoid these workers. 2nd the gift shop is extremely expensive, 1 bottle of sunscreen is $20 USD. 3rd the resort does not accept USD but visa will work just fine! Can’t wait to return to Catalonia!!

View from the juice bar! Don’t miss out!! Tacos from the food truck! Delish!!
