Blue Bay

The biggest disappointment was the beach! There was no blue water like one thinks of when going to Mexico. I understand it is beyond their control and are starting to put corrective measures in place to make a nice beach. Another thing I would like to see improved is the train service to the beach. It was very difficult to utilize it because it was always full of people. May I suggest running another shuttle or adding cars. In regards to the pools, they are beautiful, but you have to go down at 7am and put a towel on a lounge chair because they go fast! On a positive note, the food on the buffets are average, the restaurants are good quality and the food was excellent (again, you have to get up early to make a reservation at the popular restaurants because they go fast)! The staff was attentive and very friendly. They were very attentive and happy to serve! All in all, for the price it was not a bad deal and worth it.

Beach is horrible

This was probably the cheapest trip I had booked in years. The beach at this resort is the worst out of anywhere I have ever stayed that aside I got what’s I paid for. For the most part the resort is like any other decent pools and out door bars. The food left a little to be desired but what they had was decent. It’s very hard to get reservations at some of the restaurants unless you jump right up at daybreak and run right down to the lobby to make one. Most of the staff is very helpful and polite. The resort can be confusing to get around and find places but after a day or so you get it figured out, just don’t count on catching a ride on a golf cart they are few and far between and rarely stop. I do have to give props to Eddie he is by far the best bartender I have had on a vacation ever. All and all for the 500 a person I paid I got my money’s worth, I was away from the cold Illinois winter for 5 days and the drinks were cold and the weather was beautiful. Just don’t expect much from the beach other than that’s its a decent place.

Very good for the price

Overall I’d say this resort is 4 out of 5. First the bad: We were delayed at checkin. Buffet food is typical. Room was a basic hotel room. The beach was a little funky so we didn’t go in the ocean. On the good side, the staff is very friendly and mostly bilingual. Other than the buffet, there are several different restaurants that do a pretty good job of distinguishing themselves from each other and provide a good variety of foods. The fridge in the room was restocked daily with water, beer and other drinks. The pool is huge! Separate kids area, plenty of lounge chairs, entertainment if you want it, music, activities, drinks, etc... We’ve been here before and will probably go back.

You get what you pay for. Would not go back!

I have been on many all inclusive vacations. This was probably one of the least expensive trips. Not worth the good deal. Wish we would have spent more for a better resort. This resort is far from a 4 star resort rating.

Hotel Description

Bluebay Grand Esmeralda: Luxury Abounds at this All-Inclusive Retreat

Warm, frothy water spills over and around you. You're stretched out in a private Jacuzzi, on the terrace of your suite, at the all inclusive Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda on the Mayan Riviera. Just 10 minutes from Playa del Carmen, this award-winning resort is the perfect escape from everyday cares. It's also a great base for exploring Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.

As you stroll along the private beach, cast an eye toward the thatched Mayan roofs in this 180-acre, tropical paradise. When you're ready to challenge wind and water, grab a windsurfing rig from the beach, in front of the resort, and embark on an adventure. Or if you prefer the undersea world, you'll find snorkeling and diving opportunities nearby.

Two, huge, free-form pools occupy more than 30,000 sq ft between the main buildings of Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda and the beach. Designer chaise lounges, deck-side and within the pools, invite guests to take it easy. But you'll also find plenty of activity in the pools, from aquatic spinning to pool volleyball. When you prefer to stay dry, catch a beach volleyball game, or try the two tennis courts.

After an active day, consider pampering yourself with the "Labyrinth of Sensations," at the hotel's state-of-the-art spa. This thermal-bath circuit awakens your body with a footbath, sauna and vapor therapy. The spa offers special packages for couples, as well as for pregnant women.

A dining dilemma awaits you. Should you choose salmon fillet with gorgonzola cheese, accompanied by red-pepper, mashed potatoes and Mediterranean vegetables, at Il Cuore Di Rossi? Or will it be beef medallions in Roquefort sauce, at L'Atelier?

After a great night in one of the rooms or suites at Bluebay Grand Esmeralda, you're ready to start exploring the fascinating, and even haunting, Mayan pyramids at Chichen Itza, about three hours away. Another fun outing near the hotel is Xcaret Park. Snorkel in one of two underground rivers at the park, or swim with dolphins. From its butterfly pavilion to the bat cave and turtle farm, Xcaret Park is as special as this Blue Bay Resort.
