No reservations available at any restaurant from day 1 of our vacation!!

Currently at The Barcelo Maya Palace and can’t get a reservation at any restaurant. We’ve had this trip planned since the summer. Very disappointing!! The hotel is clearly over booked. The management needs to do something about this ASAP!

Loved it ALL - Staff are the Best

wow where to start, we had an amazing time. You need to remember you are at an all inclusive resort and respect both ways means something. Overall: This was our second time being at the palace and it didn't disappoint. All the staff we ran into were amazing and when we walked in to their area, they had a smile. Again treat them nicely and they will treat you nicely goes a long way. Food: The buffet was like any buffet, food was cold that should've been hot but at the buffet go to the statio ns that are making the food fresh as it's much better. The snack bar was disappointing because the first time we were there you could get a fresh made steak at the snack bar and this was not the case this year and found the food there cold as well and not a lot of options. la cartes are very hard to get into unless you book a time at 9 pm or later (which we didn't care). We always arrived early (between 7 and 8 pm) and got in everytime except for the steak house at the palace. Piano bar: This was the spot to go at night. We always ended our night at the piano bar with our frozen chocolate Martinees. Usually at night Yosajani Romero was our waitress and she was amazing. Always had a smile on her face and always brighten up when she saw us. We talked about our day and we asked about hers. She would always get our drinks in a timely manner and was just amazing service by her. Adult Pool: El Cielo Bar We spent a lot of time here and we got to know the bartender Joaquin Martinez and server Mayra. They were kind people and they really cared for us. Mayra brought us drinks and asked if we need anything when she saw we were low. When we went to the bar Joaquin was very quick and provided us great service. I will not forget Mayra smile and laugh as it was contiguous. You could really tell they loved their jobs. THANK YOU! Rooms: They were clean and yes like everyone says a little out dated but it's a room and your on vacation spend the time out at the beach, pools, resturants. You don't spend times of time in the room so they were prefectly fine. Smoking: If you do not smoke, this may be a problem for you. The are no rules and if there are in Mexico they are not enforced. We had people sitting at pool side smoking and didn't care about the next person. Also half way through our week someone moving in next door that smoked and we could'nt sit on our bacony as it was that bad. They really should have buildings for smokers and buldings for non smokers and have designated areas for smokers, as some people choose not to smoke or second hand smoke. This is honesly my biggest complain with this resort is the smoking and it's terriable that non smokers have to put up with this smokers. Some smokers were respectful and moved away from everyone - Thank you to those people but there wasn't many. Beach & Sea: This is what it's all about. The beach is nice and clean and found everyone respectful. Yes it was hard at times to find a chair but honestly you have this problem at all resports (yes respect would be nice but we know people don't have it). The walk on the beach is amazing as you can walk to miles or you can just go out in the water and swim with fish, turtles and sting rays. I did see a turtle every day I went out but I was luck and had a sting ray swim under me on the first day. AMAZING!! Premium Lounge: The ladies at the desk were always friendly and helped us any way they could. We did request two 3rd floors rooms but it wasn't accomodated (resort was busy) and it turned out the second party liked being on the ground floor (less stairs to climb). Consentine (the server in the Lounge - probably have his name spelt wrong) was always smiling and got our drinks so quickly he made us feel special. Mall: this is nothing fancy and a lot of them are over priced so make sure you know your pesos or how much you want to pay. One guy in the Palace store wanted $95 US for 4 key chains LOL.... If you are looking for something cool and someone that is reasonably (be nice and respectful) check out Alberto's both at the mall down the hall across from the rink. He was good to us. Bus: the bus that drove you to the different resorts was quick and easy. We used this a bit. Spa: It was clean and everyone was fairly friendly. We did th Hydro therapy and it was neat. Hot to cold pools but nothing too crazy.

    GO ELSEWHERE!!!!!

I have no idea how this place even gets 4.4 stars. We are currently at the resort until Monday and can't wait to get home. I will start by saying the resort itself is gorgeous. The excursion we did was the best day of the entire trip. Go with Delta Vacations for your excursions and not the hotel. Everything else is extremely disappointing for the money. The food is hit or miss at best. A lot of the buffet is downright inedible. The drinks are horrible; pure syrup. And if you don't get up before 7 am to save a spot at the pool or beach your are out of luck for the entire day. But the absolute worst is the service. From check in, to reserving restaurants (long line), to trying to just get your room cleaned no one cares. No effort. No empathy. No customer service. Save your money and go elsewhere!!!

    Wedding & vacation!

Be sure to complete the online request for room needs etc. Suggest you track them down via their email for guest services and be clear about the # of beds and which floor you want.

Be prepared to pay extra for most of the fun activities

This was our 4th trip to Mexico. Overall a mediocre resort and not worth the extra cost compared to others. Buyer beware, there are a ton of extra fees if you want to take advantage of all the amenities offered for kids/families. The pros: -friendly staff. -decent buffet with large assortment of food. -decent sized rooms. -kids club is adequate. -you can access other Barcelo resorts to use their amenities and see their shows but this is not really explained when you checked in. Cons: - restaurants are extremely difficult to get a reservation for prior to 9pm (extra difficult with a larger family). This is typically when shows are taking place. Terrible for people with kids. You could book 3 reservations when you immediately got in (which they didn’t tell us) otherwise you had to book one reservation per day and in order to get one you had to be there at around 8 AM on your vacation. - limited shows. They have karaoke and boys vs girls which are all dependent on guest participation. Michael Jackson show was good and the circus show was good, but they brought in someone to do balloon characters for kids and that was an extra cost. -limited teen activities. They do have a team club, but it is not directly on the resort. It is in the mall and it was empty when we brought our teens. There was no promotion of this teen club at the resort, it was not advertised. The activities at the poolside are all geared towards people, age 16 and over. -they have amenities for kids, but they all come at an extra cost. They have a bowling alley, a go kart area, a wave rider and an escape room on property. The food the at the bowling alley is free, but you have to pay per person to play a game, it cost us $160 for seven people to play one game. The bowling shoes were literally falling apart. So on top of an already expensive vacation, you then having to dish out more to actually use the kids amenities on the property. -extra cost for late checkout, which I’ve never experienced before at other resorts. -room service for food is also not included and comes at an extra cost. -typically at other all inclusive resorts we have had snacks in the room provided daily and at this resort, we only got our coffee restocked twice in seven days and the only snacks we had were chips and nuts, and they weren’t restocked unless we asked. -snorkel gear available for use from 9 to 3 for one hour only at no cost, but outside of these parameters this also was an extra cost.
