Great place for the money

I would not recommend him going to this resort in January the pools were very cold. The swim up bars except for one all or opposite of the sun so when you’re sitting in them you’re in the shade so you’re even colder. The buffets didn’t have a very wide variety it seem like we are eating the same food each day- they need more places to eat that you don’t have to have a reservation for besides the buffets perhaps an ice cream parlor or a coffee shop or a sushi bar that you can just walk into they need much more of a variety. The restaurants that you make reservations for were very nice the food was wonderful! I noticed The wait staff does not seem very friendly or accommodating like the wait staff in Cancun none of them are very personable and I’ve noticed throughout the resort. We’ve traveled back-and-forth to Mexico for over 25 years and just didn’t feel anyone who went out of their way to be friendly. The one waiter that stood out was at the adults only by The BEACH HOTEL- his name was Darlen- he was wonderful friendly and fun! - the music playing at breakfast buffet at THE BEACH WAS BAD- sounded like church music every morning. The workers raking the sand seemed to work so hard and never stopped!!! The shows were not that good compared to shows we have seen at other resorts- Three years ago I stayed at the palace but eat at all these different resorts and it just seemed like everything on this property was five star and I feel like it’s been dropped down to a bout a three star maybe to accommodate the adults only hotel which perhaps all the good workers went there and the good food

Not bad, but not good either

Employee service and attitude is a hit and miss, some great and some careless. Rooms and dates and bathrooms are dirty. Restaurants have a great selection and generous but average flavor (like most buffets) Understaffed for check ins and guest services. Room service not included and high charge. WiFi extra charge. Pools are nice. Beaches less pristine than cancun. All in all, not bad, but there are much better things in Mexico.

Just Average

We felt safe, the resort was average, the rooms were less than average, the food was better than some resorts but finer dining options were non existent for our party of 7 unless you were ok w/eating at 10pm. The main parts of the hotel had been renovated, a lot of things to do so great for all ages -casino, bowling, putt putt, club and shows. Make sure to book your nightly dinners immediately! They don’t serve drinks or beer before noon. Breakfast buffet is amazing- lunch at Captain Morgan is just okay but you have several options. The rooms were older- the shower was amazing, the safe didn’t work and neither did our AC so after a good 45 minutes they agreed to move our room. Overall just okay - we will spend more for a nicer place next time.

1st Visit - We'd Go Back!

The variety of beach and pool options is simply amazing. You can get clear soft sandy beach entry all the way to coral/rock entry with lots of sea life and fish to see! Lots of chairs but go early to snag a seat if it is busy season. The hammocks are a great touch in the pool area if you can get one ;) You can pretty much walk everywhere you need or want to go. The grounds are immaculately kept! This place is enormous! Lots of things to do on-site during the day that are not an extra cost: Sports, non-motorized water sports, snorkeling, kid’s water play area, mini-golf, and other game table sports. Our 3rd floor superior garden view room was clean and tidy, we lucked out with King and sofa/day bed for our kiddo. The balcony door lock was a bit wonky but worked. We did have an issue with our bathroom sink plumbing leaking all the floor and running into the entryway and closet, but called the front desk and fixed right away. Our maid and mini-bar staff were great! Food: In my honest opinion, it was just ok. The Buffets had tons to appeal to the masses, but the food was just ok. Some of the cook to order things were better than premade set out dishes. We were lucky to be there for both Christmas and New Years and the Buffets were over the top on the Eve's of those holidays with a million choices, that was a step up from regular dinner. But then the next few days we saw the recycled leftovers out.... Breakfast was on point and honestly, that's a one you can't really mess up! Lunches at the Beach Grills were ok but lacked daily variety. Some grills had more than others. We didn't like Captain Morgan's though everyone raved about it...we much preferred Rancho Grande Beach grill for lunch. The food wait staff are so nice and helpful and do an amazing job at all locations. Lack of consistency between drinks at bars, but that can happen anywhere lol. Ala Carte restaurants were just ok, nothing amazing or great. They helped break up the nightly buffets. We had our best meals at the Hibachis honestly. We paid to go to the Place for the French Brassiere, I regret it...the meal wasn't worth the expense for us. Strikers in the Mall had decent Bar/Snack food all the time and because it is a small buffet things tended to be fresher. The Not so Good: Check-in was an absolute nightmare after traveling long hours etc... there were only about 3 families in front of us and a handful of families in the check outline. The process took forever and ever with very little care/concern from the staff. Only 2-3 people working at a time, some leaving and never coming back, then another comes eventually and just does computer stuff never addressing guests, etc. It took us 1.5 hours to get checked in. We were starved, hot and tired at this point...it's just not the best impression when welcoming guests to the resort. The check-in process seemed so paper-heavy and so redundant. We knew this was a possibility from others that had mentioned it before....but wow, it was pretty bad. We did have one instance at the Santa Fe Steak house where the busser that was helping our waiter was super pushy about their ratings on their service and basically stood at the table forcing us to do a good Google review (reaching over me to push the 5 starts etc... before I could rate them...) She was so in our face about it that we actually failed to tip them for the night. So yeah she got a decent review but didn't make a tip...this was very off-putting to say the least. Booking Ala Carte Reservations is quite the chore, you MUST do it as soon as possible when you arrive to even remotely get times/locations that you’d like. Being we were only 3 people it seemed a tad easier than larger groups. What I don’t understand though…NONE of the restaurants were super busy and had LOTS of open tables when we went. (Usually between 6-8pm). Yet so many others we encountered struggled to get reservations, which caused lots of angry guests. We know we were lucky to arrive before the Holiday and be able to book all ours, many that arrived after the holiday were not able to make reservations at all. Extras: We did do the Venture Fly & Ride park that is on property one day it was fun for us all. But didn’t realize that my kiddo was too young for one of the Rides at the Ride Park and that was a disappointment for him. The Coaster Ride at Fly wasn’t operating so that was a bummer…booking our tickets, I should have waited to snag a better deal from one of the guys walking the beach it would have been cheaper. Lesson learned…but still a great fun day for us. Highlight of the trip for our kiddo really! Pirate’s Water Park- we didn’t do it…the pool temps this time of year are downright cold, so we spent very little time in the pools so kiddo didn’t want to do it. I saw they have a pass for the week that’s $60 per person…not sure it’s worth it honestly it’s far away from most everything. Mini Golf beware is free during the day but not at night! Strikers – everything is super expense in my opinion $15 for a game of bowling. 30 mins of Snook Ball $15…we did a few things but didn’t go back. The “ice skating” is fun for the kids it’s actually a plastic rink and it’s not terribly expensive. Overall: Would we go back, yes…would do some things different yes. We’d likely do Premium level for a variety of reasons: Room Service, private lounge with snacks and upgraded liquor and separate check in/out are (though we heard those lines were as bad as regular go figured). This also puts your room a bit closer to the pools/beach which is a nice thing! But if the price is just so much that we can’t make it work, we’d stick with the same plan we did this time! We’d make sure to take advantage of the super calm days at the beach more vs windy days when it gets rough out there! We’d also go with a private transfer next time, though we only stopped one place on the way, the shuffling of people at the airport took almost an hour. We will also try to not book a noon flight home, checking out at 640am was rough we had to hunt down someone to come to the desk to help us! I honestly think the hotel is just simply understaffed on the front line of guest services. Hoping that they see all the comments travelers are making and try and hire and train more people!
