second trip to Mexico

Second trip to the Cancun/Playa del Carmen area. This hotel was a much smaller venue than our first trip, which was at a large resort. So, we were comparing and contrasting as our trip unfolded. What we liked: The service was excellent. Both staff and travelers were very friendly. The resort was spotless. Very easy access (walking distance) to shopping and the ferry to Cozumel. The room was fine, small, but comfy. We didn't spend much time there, when the weather cooperated! Food in the common areas was fine, drinks plentiful (although not very strong). Many folks were not thrilled with the quality of food, but..it's not a 5 star, gourmet restaurant. Its an all-inclusive buffet. You will fine plenty of options to keep you happy. We did! Beach activities are plentiful as are pool activities, You won't be bored. Plenty of restful areas at the "quiet" pool and the beach. What we did not like: The "specialty restaurants" were not available each night. And they "booked" up quickly" Reservation can only be made 1 day in advance, and each night only 1 was available, on a rotating basis. We had 2 nights in our package, but only ate in one, once. And it was terrible. Italian. Avoid it. Beds are VERY firm, almost like sleeping on a slab. Again, you get used to it, but it may not be comfortable to everyone. Also, even though there is AC in the rooms, be aware, ALL your clothes will be damp, most of the time. Also "HOT" water is probably not going to be "HOT" but rather, not cold. MOST IMPORTANT: Every night, between 9 ish till 1030, there is a fairly loud show in the outdoor theater/stage area. If your room building is close to this, you will NOT be able to watch TV, sleep, rest or otherwise feel like you are at the show, if not IN the show, while in your room. It was the worst part of our trip. Every night for a week. Overall: Great trip after some bad weather cleared out. Avoid the "special" breakfast, if your not looking to buy into a vacation package or timeshare. They try and get you as soon as you leave the customs area in the airport and most of the way through your vacation. Its part of what every resort does from what I can tell.

Perfect Beach Rest

The resort is walking distance to Playa del Carmen. Fabulous waves most days, but still calm enough to swim. Take the ferry to Cozumel for a snorkel trip. Buffet was smaller than some but still plenty of options. Mexican restaurant had great food. Resort made my birthday extra special. Entertainment team (especially Alejandro and Ferrando) were great at encouraging people to participate, but also accepting those who did not wish to. Beach towels were hard to come by, so get yours early. Lots of brand name alcohol choices available. We saw some of the best quality shows for the evening entertainment, dancers performed complicated choreography well. Beach is non rocky, very wide with lots of chairs available. The palms provide shade if you are willing to move your chair a bit as needed. Pools were clean. There is not much beach service for drinks, but I actually prefer to get up and get my own, but I know others had complained about this. It is a very short walk to the beverage/food bar from the beach or pool. You must pay for wifi as there is no complimentary wifi anywhere on the resort. Starbucks is a 5 minute walk for those who have to check email, as well as some basic shopping areas. This resort is a great value for the dollars required.

Absolute perfection

Me and my friend started here October 16th thru 19th 2017 We had a blast!!! The staff was amazing to us ESPECIALLY ANGEL!!! HE made sure we were taken care of. The atmosphere of the resort was awesome, clean, beautiful, RIGHT ON THE BEACH LITERALLY!!! Our room was beautiful, we had our own porch, the only thing were small bugs here and there but didn't bother us at all!!! I am definitely going back next year for my birthday!

Pictures are deceiving

Pros: The hotel grounds are well kept; Resort is quiet in the evening; The restaurant staff are very polite and the service is good; Great location - close to Playa Del Carmen Rooms were bungalow style Cons: Rooms very small; beds hard a rock The small bathroom sink in the room; The shower & toilet are in a small space with no room to get dressed in so it was necessary to get dressed/ready, brush teeth, etc. in the actual room; Shower door wouldn't close so water leaked on the floor (despite 3 calls to front desk about it) Room service not completed until nearly 4pm every day which made showering after being at beach all day impossible because there were no clean towels; Food not great; same thing on buffet every night; fruit was rarely fresh; Lunch buffet located at the pool in a hut type building with no air; this was also the Mexican restaurant in the evening so while you were eating dinner (in the evening) there were people swimming in the pool. So no quite dinner. The lobby also had no air; Swim up bar had about 4 seats and it was difficult to get access to the bar tenders; Maintenance painted the step to our bungalow w/o notice or placing signs in the area so we stepped in green paint and tracked it over the porch.

What's to Love

The resort is lookin' good - newly renovated and just the right size - it's not big and confusing, so getting around is easy and effortless - exactly how your vacation should be.

The softest, most delicious sand under your toes and turquoise waters for miles - all those extra hours at the office were worth it to walk along these shores!

Three refreshing pools - one just steps off the beach with dynamic ocean views and a swim-up bar (you won't miss a beat in the pool!)

Family-friendly with activities for the kids, but also a great resort for couples and groups of friends. You can have your (beach) cake and eat it, too.

The staff seriously has you taken care of on this vacay - they aim to please, so all you have to do is sit back and savor the sun and fun.

Splurge a little and treat yourself to the 80-min massage under the stars - nice little romantic treat for two that includes moonlit ocean views, candles and sparkling wine.

What We'd Change

The resort is pretty quiet at night, but you came to Mexico to unwind and relax.

Why You Should Go

Located in the stunningly gorgeous Playa del Carmen - the trip from Cancun International Airport is about an hour, but totally worth it when you step onto the beach.

You're in walking distance to Plaza Playacar - you'll find locally made souvenirs (the best!) and a convenient store that is great for picking up items you forgot.

Let the games begin! You'll find plenty of activities for friendly competitions.

10% off spa treatments is a nice little pampering perk.

You're in a prime spot for Scuba - the PADI 5-Star Dive Center will direct you to the best diving excursions and can help you with equipment rentals and certifications. All the necessary stuff before the splendor of the deep.

If seeing historical sites is on your list, check out Chichen Itza - it will take up most of your day, but so much fun!
