Great beach for young families, the worst food we ever had.

Beach was great and the pool / splash park was well enjoyed by our kids, but the quality and variety of the food was the worst we have ever had in travelling to Mexico. We spent a significant amount of money eating off resort because the quality of the food was so poor.

    Please .....GOO.....ELSEWHERE

The resort needs major upgrade starting with bedrooms. An especially bathrooms. The attention and cleanliness. The rooms are ridiculously full of dust. Chunks on the wood furniture, headboards and lamps, everywhere. The bathroom toilet whistle every flush, leaks water. Shower leaks, water goes the wrong way, forms a pool with dirty water, disgusting, rooms have no lotion. The vip launch, they had someone with a cold coughing non stop on drinks, scratching head and rubbing their cheeks, that is completely not acceptable. Chair in rooms are stained grosses u out. I do not recommend anyone coming here. The only one good thing was the Italian restaurant. From waiters to food. Other that that nothing. Second the options in food taste and quality. Are nasty. The resort smells and the pools are not very well cleaned. Kids slides are so faded. DO NOT LET THE PICTURES FULL YOU........ . More locals attend this resort. Not confortable at all. The price speaks for itself.

    3 star resort at best!

This is a 3 star resort in some ways. We have been to many resorts in Puerto Vallarta area and on the Cancun side of Mexico, so we feel our review is being fair and honest. We were very disappointed! Sorry this is long but it's our honest review! Let's start from when we got there, (Late evening of Dec 27th 2025), waited almost 45 min to check in at 11:30pm, one guy working the desk, and 1 couple ahead of us and one family. But why should it take 45min to check in?? We were so hot and tired. Very long day! No drink was offered to us when we arrived, no assistance with our bags, no bell boys around, etc. We weren't even sure where to go. We've had this service at every resort we've been to in Mexico. After our long check in process, we get to our room on the 12th floor and its so hot in there. +24c (75F). AC is running but not working very well. It's actually cooler outside at 21c. We go back down to the lobby to look for some food, because we've been on a long day flying, and only fed pretzels and a few cookies on the plane. Nothing is available! The coffee shop has a few veggie buns left and that's about it, nothing we can order to take back to our room. We ask about no room service and we are told it is not available after 11pm. Wow! We have never seen this before at All inclusive resorts. We try to get some sleep in our hot room, but are waken by a loud squealing toilet, every time it flushes or filled back up, it has a high pitch squeal, almost sounding like a siren or alarm. We both looked at each other and said, "what's that noise!!". Our 7yr daughter woke up too and found it hard to fall back asleep because it was so hot. We all had cold shower to cool ourselves down. Next morning, room is now 23.5c but not getting any cooler, we call down about the toilet noise and air conditioning problem and now discover that our sink won't drain and fills up. They send a maintenance man to look at things, and he says the air conditioner is water based and takes a while to work, he fixes the sink and tries to fix the toilet but can't seem to get it to stop squealing. We find out there is 3 elevators, one works but is always back up while a lineup of people, one that is hit and miss and stops working for hours/days at a time, and one that is out of commission completely. This is over New Years when the resort is packed with people there to celebrate and ring in the New Year. The food buffet is ok at best, huge line up for a omelet or a fried/scrambled eggs, we never saw bacon once our whole 8 day stay, sausage that was basically hotdogs cut up. It was sad pitiful buffet. Anything good or popular was gone in seconds and they would take forever to refill it. ie fries, nuggets, pasta, pizza. My daughter is a fairly picky eater and she lives on pasta, jello, fries, and chicken nuggets and cheese pizza. These things were rarely stocked at the buffet. This a resort that suppose to cater to family and kids. I'd say that the guests were 70% Canadians, 20% Americans and 10% Mexicans, Most of the food was geared to the Mexican families staying there and not food we are accustom to back home. I get that we are in a foreign country but look at the amount of guests from Canada and the US. 2 of the A la' carte restaurants were closed, not sure why but why close 2 at the same time over New Years celebration week. We were given a new room on the 3rd day and it was slightly better, the AC temp got down 22.5C (72.5F) and the toilet didn't squeal. A Big Win! The shower head wouldn't stay up and you had to hold it up while showering but that was minor compared to our other rooms problems. The resort is in desperate need to proper maintenance and repair. It has potential but is in bad shape. I saw our girl cut her foot on a tile in the pool. The tiles around the top edge of the pool was disgusting with a grim and film and hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. Many tiles broken, chipped or missing. Plaster and paint falling off and chipping away or sloppy repairs being done.. Let me repeat, the resort is in really bad shape. The pool was warm but always not enough lounge chairs. They had a 30min empty chair policy but wasn't enforced at all. People would leave their towels on their chair all day and not enough chairs for everyone else. The bartenders and staff were very friendly and worked very hard, doing everything they could to make the guests stay enjoyable but I must say this resorts main problem is that it is poorly managed by management, and poor maintenance. "Big Shout Out" to 'Christian', the bellman at the door. Luv'd him! Sooo friendly and nice, He would arrange our taxies, give us what the price of what it should be to get to where we wanted to go, got our bags from our room when we leaving, hugged me when I left and told us to come back soon.

Far Below Expectations: Dirty, Poorly Maintained, and Misleading”

Unfortunately, our stay at Sunscape Hotel & Resort was extremely disappointing and nowhere near the 4-star experience it advertises. From arrival to departure, there were constant issues that made this feel more like a budget resort than a quality vacation destination. Rooms: The rooms were terrible. They were much smaller than advertised, poorly maintained, and had a noticeable unpleasant smell upon arrival. Cleanliness was questionable, and the overall condition of the room felt outdated and neglected. The beds were uncomfortable and undersized, and nothing about the room reflected what was shown in the promotional photos. We raised these concerns with staff, but after wasting a significant amount of time, we were told the resort was “fully booked” and no solution was offered. Pool & resort maintenance: The pool area was one of the most alarming parts of the resort. The pool was visibly cracked and dirty, and it did not appear to be cleaned regularly. At no point did we see proper pool pumps running, which raised serious concerns about hygiene and safety. This is unacceptable for a resort that claims to be family-friendly. Overall, the resort grounds felt poorly maintained, with little attention to cleanliness or upkeep. Food & dining: The food situation was another major disappointment. Despite advertising multiple dining options, the buffet was the only restaurant consistently open. Demario was only open for dinner, not as advertised, which severely limited options throughout the day. With no real alternatives, guests were forced to rely on the buffet — and unfortunately, the food was terrible. Meals were often cold, bland, repetitive, and clearly not monitored or refreshed properly. For an all-inclusive resort, this was unacceptable and made dining something we dreaded rather than enjoyed. Service: Customer service throughout the resort was extremely poor. Staff were unhelpful, dismissive, and uninterested in resolving concerns. Any attempt to address issues felt like a burden to them. Management wasted time without offering real solutions, which added to the frustration. Overall experience: This resort does not meet the standards of a 4-star property. Between the dirty and cracked pool, terrible rooms, poor food quality, misleading advertising, and lack of customer service, the experience was far below expectations. At best, this is a 2-star resort, and even that feels generous given the number of issues we encountered. We spent more time feeling frustrated than relaxed, which defeats the purpose of a vacation. I would not recommend Sunscape Hotel & Resort, especially to families or anyone expecting cleanliness, quality food, or professional service.

Great experience for a family Christmas holiday

For the cost, Sunscape meet my expectations for a great vacation over Christmas and New Years for a large family holiday of 13 people.
