My worst all inclusive family vacation ever
As soon as I stepped into the hotel, I noticed a different vibe; sure enough I approached the front desk and the customer service level was a joke. And so it was throughout my 10 days in the property. They need to catchup with their international etiquette making sure you are their priority every time and every way. That ever happened. The new rooms added in the adjacent blocks are like a half a mile from the main tower, not recommended if you have kids or if traveling with someone with health conditions besides they are flat and boring. You will find a hospital room more vivid and interesting. These rooms in general have no ocean view because they face a central garden. They moved me into the main tower and the the ocean view compensated some of my bad decision booking this hotel. This room was old and the bedding stunk just about every day. Dd I mention the bed was also mediocre? BTW looking down from above in the balcony, I noticed the murky water in the two largest pools, another huge disappointment. The buffets were OK but by the forth day, I was getting tired of the same. The lack of dessert in all restaurants and buffets for me was a huge disappointment as well. Their drinks, OMG, their drinks were tasteless as well as their beer, I through away like 40% of them. I can go on and like the poor elevators they have in the entire hotel. You can wait up to 30 minutes to catch an elevator if you are the lower levels. They are usually packed and they don’t stop! Some are out of service, some have have no AC and basically you ride at your own risk the way I see it!! The elevators can’t keep up with the amount of guests they lay have a few and they are basically small. They underestimated the elevators big time when they designed this hotel in scale.
I think this vacation could have been a lot more memorable in a good way if things have been different from what I experience in 10 days. I could have mention a lot more negative things about this property but I mentioned enough to consider other properties more seriously. The whole place needs a face lift and they need to water their plants In the lobby because they look sick and dehydrated. I hit the nail in the head about my first impression about this hotel since I put my first foot at the very entry.
I must also say that the Mexican people around and the service people in the hotel work extremely hard and are respectful and are welcoming and are very friendly. Nevertheless management is a different story. THIS HOTEL IS WAY OVERPRICED FOR THE SERVICE PROVIDED.

People smoking on the pools, not so kids friendly
The Hotel is nice, the food is great and the service of the staff is very friendly. I didn’t like that there are no “No Smoking” signs within the pool area and neither a section for smokers, might be the season but if you plan to bring your kids, don’t do it specially during the summer, the hotel don’t implement a policy for people smoking.
During our visit there is no pool for kids even though in the website they show it. Apparently there was one and now they are building a special section for kids. Probably it should be finish by 2020 or 2021.
If you plan to visit this hotel with kids, I suggest wait until they have finished the kids section or not during the summer.
The resort , food , drinks and accommodations was nice. However, this hotel is working on expanding so, it is under constant construction. So they have jack hammers and heavy equipment going all day long.

Where are you allowed to smoke - besides your room?5 answers
Where are your "speficically designated smoking areas"??
Smoke-free Policy
Under Mexican legislation smoking is not permitted in the public areas of the hotel except in specifically designated areas.

For specific public areas where smoking is permitted, We reccomend contacting the hotel directly.
KateHCC
I don't smoke so I can't really say for sure but I noticed that the closest to the building people were smoking was on the patio which runs across the poolfront from one end of the building to the other. They you to bring your food from the restaurants out to these tables so I suppose someone could smoke during their meals.

We do not smoke but there was smoking all over the resort, except I do not remember seeing it in the restaurants. Where it was especially disgusting was around the pool areas as there were no ashtrays provided. Butts were just put out on the tiles around the pool.
Skip611
While we were there I noticed that they had a designated smoking area right outside the middle walkway of the building. Probably not the best place for it since it is one of the main exits to the resorts beach and pool areas.
Vacation32
In my visit there was a lot of people smoking within the pols area, beach and even outside bars. This is the reason I didn't like this hotel.

How long does it take to get from the airport to the resort? Also, there is no transportation to and from the airport to the resort, how much does it cost for round trip?
6 years, 83 months ago
Indianapolis, IN
The resort is located 19 miles from the airport. We do suggest contacting the resort directly regarding the taxi fare in their area. The email address found directly on the resort's website is hotel.emeraldbay@riu.com.
MariaCC
There is no dedicated hotel shuttle but at the airport you can get a shuttle if you have 3 or more people in your party and it is significantly cheaper than a cab. We took a cab ride for 400 pesos, about $35, and it is a 40 minute cab ride as the resort is on the far North end of the beach.
Kinger23
Takes about a half hour to get to resort from airport. We booked transportation to and from ahead of time with vista tours. About $50 for two. Check out options at vists tours go to mazatlan tours and check out. I would recommend booking ahead of time they are there waiting and you don't have to deal with vendors trying to sell you something besides timeshares in airport lobby.
sunworshipper14
It takes about 30 minutes and its 20.00 per person each way.
Jonesy54
about 40 minutes. Cheap Caribbean provides transport both ways for $24 round trip per person.

There was no gear to rent at hotel but I am sure you could bring your own and I am sure there would be some off sight companies that would take you out.

No. The water is rough. Hard undertow.
