An excellent trip to Cabo San Lucas!

My girlfriend and I stayed 4 nights at the Riu Palace in mid-November. Both of us just could not get over the view! Absolutely beautiful and picturesque view of the Arch and ocean is offered at this resort. Our room and bathroom were clean and the resort was kept looking nice by the staff. We appreciated the different dinner options but would have preferred slightly more entree offerings on each restaurant's menu. The pool is very large, heated, and was not crowded during our trip. Drinks were made quickly and correctly and they didn't skimp on alcohol. Be advised, this resort isn't Adults Only, and some of the entertainment is geared towards children only. Also, you have access to the sister hotel Riu Santa Fe here, and in front of this hotel is where some of their Adults Only weekly parties are - we went to the Jungle Party and had a blast!! Pros: - Spectacular sunset views of the ocean and Arch - Large, heated, uncrowded pools - Very tasty dishes at the restaurants (the main buffet is just okay) - Well-made drinks and hardly ever lines at the bars - Quick and easy to get around resort (mostly a large square or U-shape) - Adults Only themed party was suuuuuper fun! Foam in the pool + dancers up on stage entertaining as well Cons: - Our bathroom had super tiny ants on the counters. My girlfriend must have killed 15 on our trip. Thankfully, zero spotted in bedroom - Typical cheesy entertainment options at night, and sometimes catered specifically for children - Poolside service and sit-down service at buffets could have been better

Great place for the short vacation

Very good resort, great service. Unfortunately non-swimable beach. Buffets do not serve hard liquors on dinners, so need to get shot from the bar in separate location. Everything else and overall is great! Will come back!

Great resort, especially for the price

Adult married couple (upper-40's), and we've stayed at a number of all-inclusives in the Caribbean, but had never stayed anywhere in Mexico. When you go to the Caribbean frequently, you get used to "island time," which basically means, "bad service." We've stayed in Aruba, the Bahamas, St. Thomas, Jamaica and a few other Caribbean locales (some all-inclusive, some not), and at some of those resorts, the staff didn't care whether we lived or died. Everything about the service we received at the Riu Palace Cabo was exactly the opposite, to the point that the great service outshined the excellent resort amenities. We were greeted in the main lobby with mimosas and immediate luggage service. Check-in was quick — we must have arrived at a good time, because there was almost no line. Our room was ready when we arrived (about 3:00 PM). We had a room with a swim-out pool that faced the interior of the resort; never used it. The room was spacious and had a good-sized bathroom. Very clean with mostly-new furniture (the resort had a major refurb 3 years before we visited). Tile floors, no carpet. There are few electrical outlets. The bed was actually two standard-size beds shoved together, which ain't great for a married couple; that's pretty much the only significant complaint I have about our entire stay. A few minutes after we got to our room the door lock stopped working. Called the front desk and a guy was there fixing it in about 5 minutes. Dead battery. The view from the resort is fantastic. It's near the Arch of Cabo san Lucas, though the arch itself is hidden by the surrounding rock formations. Still, very beautiful scenery. You can take a water taxi to Lover's Beach/the Arch. You can't swim in the ocean because of the constant undertow, but the beach is very long and walkable. There are always a handful of locals selling trinkets on the beach. They're persistent, but just say no and then ignore them, they'll get the idea and leave you alone. The resort has a couple of large pool complexes, and a pair of swim-up bars. I think there's a couple more pools but I didn't see them. Most major liquors, and a mix of US & Mexican beers. Spent a lot of time at the swim-up bar. If you want good lounge chairs by the pool, you should get up early and stake your claim with beach towels. There's a sundries shop at pool level. You can always use US currency, but you may get either dollars or pesos as change. Food was very good. The main buffet was one of the better all-inclusive resort buffets I've been to. We ate at a couple of "signature" restaurants, and both were very good. Not all are open every night, so check the schedules. No reservations - first come, first served. Room service was below par and slow, but there are other options, including a 24-hour lounge where you can always find something to eat and drink, that it is not a deal-breaker. Service was outstanding across the resort. You are definitely allowed to tip, and it helps; I always carried a pocket full of $5's. Like I said earlier, service was vastly superior to what we usually get in Caribbean. All the front-line staff speak English. Really, I can't praise the customer service enough. Our second-to-last day it rained a LOT, so we took a cab into Cabo and did a couple of touristy things: Cabo Wabo, Giggling Dolphin, etc. Taxi for 6 people was $20 +tip. We were able to use US currency everywhere we went, both on and off the resort, but you'll sometimes get change in pesos. The public spaces were always very clean and well-kept. Green spaces were well-manicured and beautiful. Most resorts have great promotional photos and then underwhelming actual spaces, but this place lived up to the marketing pics. Beautiful, especially at night. This is a very large resort, and it might take time to really get your bearings.

Riu Palace

I never used cheap caribbean before to purchase a vaction, but i'm glad i did. made everything so much easier. I loved Riu palace. this was the 3rd all inclusive I tried and it was definitely a great resort. my only wish is that their room service menu had more options because it was pretty basic. better than the last place I stayed at in Cabo though. the first day I arrived I found the resort a little tough to navigate, but by the 2nd day I had a lay of the land and it was so simple. I had a wonderful view of the ocean even though my room butted up next to the Riu SantaFe. i had the option to go do the pool parties next door at the SantaFe but i didn't. but i heard from others they were pretty awesome.

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

Blue sparkling pools with dynamo ocean views. Pic opp moments, for sure.

Within walking distance to Cabo's El Medano Beach - you can swim, jet ski or bar hop along the shores.

Swoon-worthy views from your balcony - ocean or resort, either way - it's stunning.

Freshly made guacamole for your morning, afternoon, or late night snack. It's delish.

Resort is geared for families and mature adults - not your rowdy spring break revelers.

The Entertainment Team keeps things lively and when you want to let loose, Pacha disco is open at night.

Staying in your room and dining with 24-hour room service. Because you're a rock star.

What We'd Change

The beach out front isn't swimmable - the undercurrent is strong, but you can the pool is gorgeous and has the best ocean view.

Why You Should Go

Perfect location in Cabo - a short trip from the airport to the resort and close to Cabo's nightlife.

Riu's commitment to top notch service will win you over the moment your flip flops hit the resort.

Whale watching is epic here. Best time to see these awe-inspiring creatures - mid-Dec thru mid-April.

Stay sporty - tennis, volleyball, ping pong are included, and for a fee, ride horses on the beach.

See the famous El Arco (meaning "Land's End") from the resort. (Go there and take a Selfie).

RiuLand keeps the kiddos entertained. And, you? Book time in the spa. You deserve it.
