Ixtapa trail

Hotel was very beautiful with nice rooms. 90 percent of the employee were great and tried the best to meet guest needs. Food was sub par at all restaurants buffets. The head chief did come out and made great food but you have to complain to get it. Pools were over crowed and the water was hot and felt unclean. paying more for a canopy is best as all chair are claimed first thing in the morning. I feel overall the hotel is great but not meant for international traveler but more for Mexican nationals families enjoying a nearby vacation resort, This was my third vacation in Mexico and the worse one. Cancun seems more capable of handling international traveler.

Love it here!

This was our first trip back to the Sunscape Dorado after being married there four years ago. Recognized many of the same people (mostly bartenders!). It was truly like going home! Special thanks to Simon and Raymundo in the pool bar!! Everyone at the resort is very welcoming and friendly and they all want you to have the best time. Our room was great and the mini fridge was kept well-stocked. My only disappointment this time was the food. The buffet was fine - much like last time. Breakfast was always good thanks to Magdalena cooking our omelettes. The seafood restaurant is gone, and so is the sushi restaurant. That usually left the buffet and one or two other options for dinner. We found ourselves eating dinner off the resort most nights, which is fine because there are many fantastic restaurants in walking distance. But would have liked to have had more options for dinner and not spent so much off the resort considering it's an all-inclusive! Overall - this place always feels like home!

Was better last year

We have stayed at the Sunscape 2 years in a row. This year we feel the resort has slipped in quality of service and especially in quality of food. Unfortunately we could not recommend the Sunscape to others. In regards to the food specifically. It is the same buffet day in and day out as well as lunch food and dinner menu. The entertainment is the same year after year as well. Next year we will be choosing another resort.

Wasted vacation

I’ve been to a lot of resorts, and this is by far the worst experience I’ve had. The air conditioning didn’t work, after 2 miserable nights and a couple of so-called fixes I made them switch rooms. At least one of the elevators was broken down all the time. The staff was very rude throughout the resort. They didn’t care if you were happy or not, they new they already had your money. We upgraded to the paradise club. What a waste of money, your supposed to get a better room better booze, better service. Ha ha. What a waste, the premium beer for you is Corona light, whelp there is only about a 12 pack for the whole resort and if you ask for one, you would think you we’re asking for there first born child. This just part of what happened. If I wrote everything that happened I would need to write pages. In short, stay away.

Their world-class spa (with stress-smashing treatments) has the only hydrotherapy rooms in Ixtapa.

What We'd Change

There are dress codes in the specialty restaurants, which means no dining in your swimsuit. But hey, gourmet dining is so worth the effort.

Why You Should Go

It's just 20 short miles from the Ixtapa Zihuatanejo International Airport (ZIH).

All Explorer's Club staff are certified for children by the Red Cross - a relief, right?

Two golf courses within minutes of the resort, and tennis courts on site.

Zihuateanejo is 10 minutes away with cute folk art shops, boutique hotels where you can grab a drink, and fresh seafood places to grub. (You get two towns with one resort).

No pesky wristbands.
