Pleasant vacation but avoid the timeshare pitch

Overall, Sunscape provides a pleasant vacation for the price. The grounds are beautiful and the staff is welcoming and friendly. Our room needed updates and the bed was extra firm, but it was clean. The a/c dripped condensation continuously down the wall but it worked well to cool the room. Housekeeping did a nice job but we did have to request it one evening after they were a no-show. We were disappointed in the service on one occasion. After spending a full day in bed from severe stomach issues, we contacted the front desk to ask that a bucket of ice be brought to our room and were told they did not offer that service. The beach is beautiful and kept in pristine condition. The beach side bars offer a variety of drinks and the bartenders are friendly. Food choices are limited. There is one restaurant that offers a buffet for all three meals, a beachside grill type restaurant for lunch and dinner, and a Mexican restaurant open for dinner only. Do be aware this is a timeshare (which we did not know). After stepping out of the taxi upon our arrival, we were hurried to a table by a salesman who tried to commit us to attend a breakfast with a sales person. After not showing the next morning, he called our room. Once we firmly declined, he got the message.

Vacation From Satans Den

Second time at the Secrets/Sunscape Resort in Cozumel. This will be the last time. The first time was fantastic and that is what made us want to return. This time, the room was HORRIBLE. The single unit air conditioner sounded like a helicopter flying when it worked, other times it didn't work at all and we didn't have any cool air. Called for service and all the facilities person did was look at it and shrug. No service done on the unit. Front Desk would not move us to another room although it appeared the facility was only about 30-40% capacity. The bathroom was dirty and the grout was moldy. Towels were old and thread bare. The all inclusive restaurants were menu only in three of the four restaurants and the menu stayed the same for the 6 days we were there. The selection was poor, but the food was edible. Service was mediocre except for one waiter that was exceptional. We had to ask for bottled water several times a day as they would only leave four bottles at a time. That left two for each of use for drinking purposes. The front desk was not responsive to our complaints and did nothing to address our concerns. Couldn't wait to leave. The beach area is beautiful and the reef right off the pier is great for snorkeling, but it wasn't worth the accommodations in the hotel for the view of the activity of the reef.

Good stay for the budget concious!

The staff here are wonderful! The property is truly beautiful. Great beach and pools. The room had some water damage and the toilet ran constantly, but room was clean and the beds comfortable. The dining on the resort was mediocre at best. Would consider staying again for the scenery, but would plan other dining options.

Good stay for the budget concious! Good stay for the budget concious!

Great Anniversary Trip

My wife and I celebrated our 1st Anniversary at Sunscape, and it was great! We actually did the Deal of Fortune and were happy to get this resort, having stayed at another Sunscape last year on our honeymoon. When we arrived, the first room we were assigned was a Deluxe Tropical View on the bottom floor. We ended up upgrading to a Junior Suite Pool View for only $230 more, which was a great decision. We were on the third floor with a wrap around balcony and our own private jacuzzi tub. Well worth the price of the upgrade! We spent the majority of our time at the smaller, more private pool. Too many kids at the main pool. We also laid out on the beach almost every day. Not a large beach, but a nice beach, with hammocks and bars nearby. The food was decent, but defintiely not high quality. We ended up having breakfast and dinner one night at Secrets, the resort nextdoor, and the food there was much better. My biggest complaint would be the staff and service. As soon as you get to the hotel and check in, you are bombarded with staff trying to get you to attend a presentation in hopes that you'll purchase their Unlimited Vacation Club. We spoke to at least three people who tried to sell us on it, and it was a bit much. We did end up doing the breakfast presentation in exchange for what they call Leisure Cash, which goes toward different excursions. It was reletively painless but still took up a good 2+ hours of our time. While the room service was great and the room was always clean, the staff did not reguarly clean the halls and the stairwells, leaving food and plates there for days at a time. Overall, it was a great experience, and I would recommend this hotel to others looking for a relaxing vacation in Cozumel.
