Alot of Potential, but that's about it

So much went wrong, I honestly dont want type it all. We had to move rooms three times for multiple reasons, including mold and no hot water. They fumigate this huge cloud of smoke at 6 pm throughtout the resort that came into our second room for over an hour the first night....that gave me dizzy spells the rest of the week. The food was mediocre. The pools are in very poor shape. The landscapinng and grounds are not kept well or clean (there were literally wires sticking out of the ground in several places around the pool). The dance club place is just run down. I could keep going on. We also had a major problem with the booking of our excursion which I will be contacting cheapcaribbean directly about. This resort could be so beautiful, but just is in need of some major repairs and upkeeping.

Wonderful Island and Beautiful Resort.

I hadn't been to a Secrets resort before and many who have were mentioning that Aura was the least favorite for them. From the minute we arrived, our party of 13 had the time of our lives. The rooms were NOT old and outdated, the swim up pool is a must for me, Swimming over to the Manatee Bar and having cocktails was such fun!! We enjoyed most of the food, the service was impeccable, rooms were cleaned nicely and the pools and grounds were maintained beautifully. I would definitely recommend this vacation resort for anyone who loves to have a good time. They offered all the regular tours which we signed up for, they even had painting and wine by the ocean one evening. The people in Cozumel are friendly, love welcoming tourists and really want to show you a good time. You cannot go wrong with Secrets Aura and the beautiful island!!!

Lovely beach

The beach is why we came here, so in that regard, it was perfect. The water is beautiful with no seaweed. You can snorkel right off the dock and see so many fish! Water shoes/sandals are a must. However, the service was a little slow. We stayed in July, which was busy, so I assume they were under-staffed. Getting our own food and drinks wasn't a huge problem, but it would have been nice to have faster service. Pools were okay. Again, it was July, very hot and crowded so the temperature was bath water-ish. We swam in the ocean instead. Food was okay. Nothing really stood out in a good or bad way. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet each morning at least. Booking a "Preferred Club" room is a must. The check-in experience was fun with snacks and champagne. Our room was preferred club ocean-view junior suite which was on the corner so we had two balconies with a gorgeous view.

Just OK

Pros: Friendly, attentive staff Clean pools, beach, and clean resort overall Beautiful beach with little to no seaweed On-site coffee shop 24-hour room service Cons: Not enough lounge chairs or umbrellas at pools/on beach Bland food at most of the restaurants Cannot access all pools/areas on the resort unless you upgrade Too many sales pitches Not good for singles No barrier/privacy fence to separate from kid-friendly resort right next door; kids/families walk across Secrets' beach to get to other resorts Lots of sharp rocks in the ocean

What's to Love

Newly renovated in 2015-2016, this resort is all shiny, splashy new.

As of June 2018 you can bring your furry friend along!

The salvation of the cool towel and thirst-quenching welcome cocktail when arriving in paradise.

The sleek white, boxy architecture (very glam).

Hip suites with comfy beds that have private balconies or terraces and take-your-breath-away views.

Scuba diving at the epic Mesoamerican Barrier Reef and being awed by the fabled coral reefs.

You can take scuba lessons at the Dive House. Sweet.

The candlelight dinner for two on the beach while the purr of the waves serenades you.

Snorkeling under the dock that boasts stingrays and parrot fish. (One beach lover even saw a barracuda).

The world-class spa with Seaweed Wraps, invigorating hydrotherapy and exotic indigenous treatments. Swoon.

A pier to wander out on and get hypnotized by the point where the blue water meets the azure horizon.

What We'd Change

Cozumel doesn't have as many activities as Cancun. After all, it is an island. But Secrets always has a lot of adult-only activities to keep you entertained.

Why You Should Go

You're just 20 minutes away from the airport so your rockin' vacay will start before you know it.

You're just 15 minutes away from downtown Cozumel. Just a $15 (U.S. dollars) to cab it there.

You can upgrade to Preferred Club which means better rooms, private swimming pool, and much more.

The mysteriously cool Chicen Itza and Coba Ruins are a short hop away. (Ooo-ahhh).

Lit tennis courts. Woot!

You can improve your game on an 18-hole golf course designed by the great Jack Nicklaus.

The largest beachfront in Cozumel is out back.

You can try you hand at kayaking, Hobie cats and water volleyball - don't be shy. Dive in!

Bring your aqua shoes - the beach is like finely ground seashells.

Most restaurants require men to wear long pants and no flip flops.

Probably no going shirtless or tank tops, unless you're a male Abercrombie model.
