Sliver of Heaven

I had stayed at El Cozumeleno Beach Resort last year. I had such a great time, I decided to go back there again this year. The staff are cordial and professional. The food this year was better than last year. The dive shop is on location and they have excellent customer service. I will return again next year. Viva Cozumel!!!

Nice pools and beach, dining experience not good

We were very disappointed in the food. It was almost the exact dinner choices every day. Breakfast was disappointing too because there was no cheeses, not many fruits, and no chorizo. The people/servers were very nice. Sadly the food was exactly the same every day, and not that good either. At dinner the fish never looked cooked, so was unappetizing. The lunch buffet had few choices, only hamburgers or hot dogs and cold nachos and cheese. Plus to make it worse, there isn’t really anyone by the food all the time and birds were eating off of it all the time. It was very unappetizing just for that reason. The birds were so bad you battled bird poop all over too. They did try to keep the birds out of the main dining room, but they still got in. At least they tried there. Nothing was done to keep them out of the lunch area. There was a second dining room, more fancy, but the food choices were disappointing too, plus it was really hard to get a reservation for it, and not convenient at all. We made it in there only once. The Hot tub was also very gross. It looked like people and the birds were using it like a toilet. It was almost a green color and so cloudy you couldn’t see your feet or legs in the bottom. The pools were very nice and there is a really cute miniature golf course there. They didn’t really have any entertainment either. That was disappointing too. A couple times they had a live singer by one of the pools, that was nice. The beach was very small too and rocky. It was not the easiest to get in the water. I had my knees replaced and it was hard for me to get in and out. There was a ton of seaweed too. They tried to clean it up, but with a wheelbarrow and rake only, so it was a lost cause. We couldn’t believe they didn’t have a four wheeler or some type of vehicle to help them clean it up. Then towards the end of our stay, they brought out a four wheeler and helped for just a little while. It was crazy to make the workers do all of that backbreaking work by hand. The staff were all very nice though. The room was ok. Not the best we have ever had, but not the worst either. The air wasn’t working very good though, but we made it through. If the cost was a great deal, we would probably go back again, and just eat in town. There is a restaurant down the street from the hotel, we ate there one night. It was good but pricey compared to in town. Like triple the cost. The key lime pie was the best we have ever had. They had a pie shop next to the restaurant, but they served it in the restaurant too. The snorkeling was good. Not as good as other hotels but still good. Once you swam out of the seaweed. But overall, other then the food, the resort was nice. Maybe a 3. If they work on the food and entertainment it would help a lot.

Not bad but there's better

This resort is tough to rate. The positives: nice, friendly staff, nice beach and snorkeling. nice mini golf course (my 9 yr old loved it). The scuba shop was decent. The cons: food was ok - not great. The rooms are a bit outdated. The furniture definitely showing wear. Rooms were clean - just not great in terms of furniture quality / bed comfort. Night entertainment was weak compared to other resorts in Cozumel I have stayed at. Overall , we enjoyed our stay. However, I have been to Cozumel several times and this resort would be the lowest rated. If you are on a tight budget and want to save some money - this place is fine. If you can afford to spend a little more, I would.

If you like to snorkel then this is the place to go. Pools are ok. Food options were way below expectation. Staff was great! Rooms are good. No troubles using cheap Caribbean.

Hotel Description

Dive into El Cozumeleno Beach Resort, an Island Paradise

Ever wish you lived on a tropical island? You can at least visit one when you escape to an all-inclusive, diving paradise at El Cozumeleno Beach Resort. Located in the northern Hotel Zone of Isla Cozumel, just five minutes from downtown San Miguel, this family-friendly home away from home faces the clear blue waters of the Caribbean against sands so white it's tough to spot seashells.

If you're curious about Davy Jones' Locker, the diving and snorkeling opportunities near El Cozumeleno Beach Resort are second to none. Make plans for reef snorkeling, diving lessons and certification and dives to see the amazing Palancar Reef. If pirate ships are more to your liking, swab the deck of a rental sailboat, take a sunset cruise, or schedule a deep-sea fishing charter, all from one location right in front of the resort.

The landlubbers in your crew can lounge on the sands of the serene beach, hang out on the resort's pier or opt for the three-level, free-form activities pool that includes a jetted section and swim-up bar. Grab something to munch at the poolside snack bar, and then relax under the highest tier behind a waterfall or in the 10-person hot tub. If you need a more Zen-like experience, grab a spot by the "quiet" pool, while the munchkins indulge in the mushroom-shaped shower located in the children's wading pool.

On your way back to the hotel, drop your offspring off at the all inclusive kid's club before taking in 18 holes of golf at Cozumel Country Club right across the street. Designed by the Nicklaus Group, the course is not only environmentally friendly, but offers a challenge for everyone from beginners to experienced players. Gather everyone for an early evening meal at the open-air El Cocal then enjoy live entertainment available three nights a week produced by your friendly and courteous staff.

After a full day, you'll be ready for sweet dreams when you retire to an Ocean Front View room. You've earned it. You're on vacation.
