Riu never disappoints.

Another fantastic stay in Riu Hotels. We upgraded the room to a full ocean view and it was not worth as you get more aun on the opposite site. The room is Ok but the beds are full and we were hoping for queens. The food is fantastic but we mainly eat at the buffet. Beach is Great with sands soft as flour, plenty of bars and entertainment is average. Pool was heated and that was a huge plus on the windy days and days with leas sun, we stayed first two weeks of January 2019z Over all Amazing Place.

Fabulous Vacation!

This is the first big vacation my husband and I have taken in over 5 years and it was worth EVERY PENNY! All of the resort employees were incredibly nice & helpful - always will to serve their patrons with a smile on their faces no matter what! The food was INCREDIBLE! Plenty of options so we weren't eating at the same place every day. We loved being so close to the ocean as well! We stayed in the Adult Villas - we loved how quiet and well kept they were, and having the private pool was definitely a highlight of our week. We will DEFINITELY be going back to Riu Palace Penninsula!

Highly recommend RIU

This is our second beach vacation in Cancun and also our second at a RIU resort and we were very happy with choosing a RIU resort again. The service was exceptional throughout our stay - no matter who it was. The hotel was immaculately clean with people cleaning, sweeping, polishing, etc. all the time. The food was fantastic at all of the restaurants, with lots of selections. You definitely will not go hungry! We were surprised to find entertainment in the theater after dinner, which was fun - live band and dancers one night. It rained the first full day that we were there so we walked to the flea market, which was within a walkable distance if you like to walk (which we do). We also learned that we had reciprocal privileges for breakfast and lunch at other RIU resorts so we stopped for a late lunch at the RIU Palace Las Americas. We really enjoyed lunch in the Italian restaurant and would consider staying at this location next year. We booked an ocean view room on an upper floor (12) and were so glad we did! We were able to enjoy the ocean from our balcony when it was raining and at the end of the day. Our room was very clean and well maintained. The water was replenished in our refrigerator daily, which was greatly appreciated. We were also glad that the TV had English speaking Christmas movies on every night! There wasn't one single negative about this resort. This is also the second time we have booked our vacation through CheapCaribbean.com and we had an excellent experience with our booking. It was super easy and everything went well. We have been recommending the website to everyone! We are looking forward to booking again next year!

Beautiful Hotel, Worst Service

The hotel itself is very beautiful and the pool beaches and overall beauty of this property is incomparable to other properties. We had eight rooms at this hotel and a total of 19 people. The hotel has very limited vegetarian and vegan options. Only two of the restaurants actually have vegetarian options, the buffets and the Italian restaurant. We are used to eating Mexican food because this cuisine can just remove the meat and just leave everything vegetarian. My family sat down in the Mexican restaurant tamales and the waiter came to take our order. We had asked the waiter if they could make their fajitas vegetarian because all they would have to do is just to not add meat. The waiter got the chef because he did not understand. The chef said that he would be able to make the food for us, but the host of the restaurant came over and immediately started talking rudely to our family in a very mean tone. He yelled at us and said that he would not be able to accommodate us because the restaurant was so busy and us to leave. The restaurant only had 4 tables at this time and was essentially empty with no line at the entrance. We had to leave the restaurant because this host would not accommodate our simple request of just not putting meat in their food. We went to the buffet instead because none of the other restaurants can accommodate us. The chef came over to us after we had already gotten food from the buffet and told us that he would make the food for us, but we had already gotten the food at the buffet restaurant. We complained to the front desk and wanted to see a manager but the only person on duty was the front office manager Benjamin. He said that he would talk to the chef and find out what had happened. The chef came to the front desk while we were there and explain the situation but he lied to the front desk and told him something else. I corrected his story and told Benjamin what had actually happened and that this was not acceptable because all we wanted to do was eat at the Mexican restaurant which should be able to accommodate our simple request. He said that we would be able to eat food in the Mexican restaurant tomorrow and to contact the chef in the morning. I went to the front desk the following morning I spoke to Iran at the front desk and informed him that we would be coming at 7:30 p.m. to eat and that we wanted veggie fajitas, rice that was cooked without chicken broth, vegetable quesadillas, and beans. They confirmed that they will be able to do this for our group. We came back at 7 from our tour and went straight to the Mexican restaurant in the hotel. The host told me to come back at 8 p.m. if we could not all be down at the same time at 7:30 because we needed in little bit of extra time to get ready. I said that is fine we will be back at 8 p.m. and we all were back at the restaurant at this time. In the morning we were informed that everything should be ready for us at 7:30 and that they were sorry about our experience and that everything was a miscommunication between the host and the kitchen because they treated us extremely rudely in a vicious manner when we made our request. when we came back it took them another half an hour to get the food out when we already informed them in the morning that we will be ready at 7:30. When the food came out they did not even sit us in the restaurant, they made us sit in the buffet area and they did not serve us our food they just put it on the table and they left for us to serve it ourselves.we were supposed to be eating in the Mexican restaurant, be served out food just like other guests, but instead, they made us eat in the buffet, made us wait one hour longer than what was requested in the morning, and they did not even serve the food. Three restaurant staff is done of the worst I have experienced in my life. I can't believe that the host is even allowed to continue working at the hotel after yelling at us like that. The front desk does not take any responsibility in communicating any issues with the restaurant to a manager and expects me to track down a restaurant employee to complain to? I assume that when they read this that they will not range any responsibility and they will make an excuse by putting all blame on our group. I also assume they will make up a story so it does not hurt their reputation as much as well when they reply to my review I do not recommend this hotel if you are a vegetarian. They cannot handle any requests at all without causing a major scene, and yelling at the customer. The rooms had some issues too, such as every single outlet being so loose that our chargers fall out, the fridge not working the entire week there and very slow service for towels. They took an average of 2 hours to bring towels.

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

The uber dazzling stretch of white sand, tropical flora and crystal clear aquamarine water.

Stress-ousting massages, steam baths and saunas at the delicious spa. It's a Melt-a-thon.

RiuLand - supervised activities for kids 4-12 while you get your drink & relaxation on.

The day trip to Isla Mujeres to see the sea turtles and all the electrically colorful fish.

The more-than-delish Mexican nosh spot and steakhouse. (Nom, nom, nom.)

Renting a moped or scooter and tooling around, taking in all the natural beauty.

Getting a bottle of tequila sent to your room for your birthday.

What We'd Change

While the nightly entertainment may not be for everyone, you are close enough to the heart of Cancun to find something that will strike your fancy.

Why You Should Go

It's just 13 miles away from the airport so that Beach Relief aka Your Vacay will start before you know it.

Mayan ruins are on site and near (Chichen Itza). For history buffs, it's a great dose of antiquity.

The resort is off-the-beaten path, but you can hope on a shuttle to the hot spots in Cancun.

There are oceans of water sports: kayaking, snorkeling, windsurfing and more.

When you're not in the luscious ocean, you can hit the gym or play beach volley ball.

Travelers report excellent service, that you'll feel like Beach Royalty. (It's a palace, after all.)

You can rent jet skis and for a fee, go scuba diving. Take the plunge.
