Great resort for the money

We really enjoyed this resort. It had the best beach of any resort we have stayed at so far in Cancun. We stayed in a villa, these are great for couples wanting to relax. They have a private adult only pool along with a private dining room for dinner. If your wanting a view stay in the main hotel. The food was good, but don't expect fine dining service. The service wasn't bad just not what we are used to for a 5 star restaurant in the states. They are very good at making sure your needs are taken care of, they even called a couple of times to make sure a request was fulfilled. Rooms were nice, beds comfortable. Over all a great resort for the price.

After several trips this time disappointed

We keep coming back to the same resort because we liked everything, this time we thought food quality went down, same restaurants, same menu and no much of variety for the past 5 years. Service was good they expected tipping and sometimes at the restaurants they expected a big tipp When a lot of people from other European countries tipped zero. Entertainment like the menus same thing over and over “boring”. Time to go to another resorts.

WOW!

EXCELLENT! EXCELLENT! EXCELLENT! From their front desk down to their cleaning personnel, EXCELLENT SERVICE. We were amazed on how professional and friendly their staff were from the moment we stepped in the hotel until our last day. Smiling faces all around you. 5 EXCELLENT restaurants you Can choose from and the buffet area are superb- the selections changes daily. They have activities for kids from ages 4 and up and never ending activities for adults as well. You can see service people everywhere including the pool area. The snack area were open 24/7 and has good variety as well. Shows at night both for kids and adults. We will definitely be back!

Worst "5 Star" Hotel

The waiters were perfectly nice but I spoke Spanish so that could've made it easier for me. The beach was nice, however there's a limit to how far out you can go because of the boats The room had an uncomfortable bed. The worst part was the food made both my boyfriend and I sick and ruined our vacation. Both instances were after eating meat and, since we exclusively ate at this resort, they are not handling the storage of meat well. We were especially disappointed when we told the receptionist at check out and he said "Oh, really?" and nothing else. I will not be staying at Riu ever again.

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

The uber dazzling stretch of white sand, tropical flora and crystal clear aquamarine water.

Stress-ousting massages, steam baths and saunas at the delicious spa. It's a Melt-a-thon.

RiuLand - supervised activities for kids 4-12 while you get your drink & relaxation on.

The day trip to Isla Mujeres to see the sea turtles and all the electrically colorful fish.

The more-than-delish Mexican nosh spot and steakhouse. (Nom, nom, nom.)

Renting a moped or scooter and tooling around, taking in all the natural beauty.

Getting a bottle of tequila sent to your room for your birthday.

What We'd Change

While the nightly entertainment may not be for everyone, you are close enough to the heart of Cancun to find something that will strike your fancy.

Why You Should Go

It's just 13 miles away from the airport so that Beach Relief aka Your Vacay will start before you know it.

Mayan ruins are on site and near (Chichen Itza). For history buffs, it's a great dose of antiquity.

The resort is off-the-beaten path, but you can hope on a shuttle to the hot spots in Cancun.

There are oceans of water sports: kayaking, snorkeling, windsurfing and more.

When you're not in the luscious ocean, you can hit the gym or play beach volley ball.

Travelers report excellent service, that you'll feel like Beach Royalty. (It's a palace, after all.)

You can rent jet skis and for a fee, go scuba diving. Take the plunge.
