Excellent vacation…However…
We had the best rest and vacation. Food considering how many are catered for, very good. Pools something for everyone. We found busy lively places to sit and then over by the outdoor massage beds, a very peaceful quiet area too. Then the beautiful beach!! I have one major complaint. What is the awful mold/mildew smell? I just put on a t-shirt that’s I’ve washed since our trip and the same smell is still clinging to the shirt. I suspect a serious mold issue within the walls/roof of the resort. I’m so surprised that nothing seems to have been done as far as mold removal and new construction where necessary afterwards. Although our room was dated we remained positive as it was spotlessly clean every day. However some chipped/creaked tiles and a loose tile also a malfunctioning toilet (we manually tended to the flusher every time and kept the tank lid off the whole 10 days) all need to be replaced. Decor is dated and artwork completely mismatched. To summarize: please fix the obvious mold issue and update at least the bathrooms …headboard somewhat hideous too.

Without a doubt, a hotel I highly recommend for enjoying Cancún to the fullest.
My stay at Río Palace Las Américas was fantastic. The rooms were comfortable and very clean, the staff was friendly and attentive, and the buffet food was delicious. The beachfront location is spectacular, and the atmosphere is very relaxing.

Beautiful hotel with terrible food
This is a beautiful hotel with gorgeous rooms, pools and beach. However the food is pretty awful. The presentation is nice and the service good….it just doesn’t taste good. It was very disappointing. I’m Glad we were only there two nights. My husband had a steak that was fine.

A very detailed review
Reception: Reception are very welcoming and helpful. Only complaint was that we weren’t greeted with welcome drinks on arrival. Room: We had room 758 and we found it had a perfect sunset view every night. The room is definitely tired and needs a lot of work. The shower pressure was great but the actual shower was a bit grubby and definitely needed to be replaced. The beds were comfortable but we did have a stain on ours since we arrived until we left. The bathroom light was covered in electrical tape and didn’t look perfectly safe which made us uncomfortable. Our room was perfectly stocked with drinks every single day, no complaints at all. However, for the cleaning we were slightly disappointed. I have been to many Rius before and this one didn’t meet my expectations. Our room wasn’t cleaned a few times and we had to call reception. We were often missing towels and had no robes to the point we gave up asking reception for them. Our stuff was often thrown about and wasn’t handed with a lot of care. Also, there was a lack of personalisation. No towel art, not a lot of care. For a palace, I would expect a higher standard of cleanliness. We didn’t use our tv much at all but if you do use your tv I would recommend bringing a fire stick because there’s like one channel that works. Also would like to mention that after our room being cleaned our key had been taken out of the spot, leaving us with only 1 key for the remainder of our stay. Overall I would definitely say the whole room needs to be redone which I completely understand is coming soon. The room is a small part of you holiday but still a necessary factor. Bars: We found every single bar perfect and all the bartenders work so hard. They are very heavy on the alcohol so just keep that in mind. We loved the art deco bar and our favourite staff was a young lady with glasses on whose name has completely slipped our minds. She’s lovely and thank you. We also loved the bar Can and all the staff are lovely. My biggest tip is 100% bring a thermal cup, best decision ever to bring one. Steakhouse restaurant: Honestly we weren’t sure what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised. All the staff were really accommodating. We disliked the bread to start but everything else was lovely. We loved the beef fillet. Top tip: ask for extra chips because you only get a basket per 2 people. We enjoyed it so much we went 3 times and every time our steak was cooked to perfection. I specifically loved the chocolate cake! We also love the host Thomas, he’s so welcoming and couldn’t do more for you if he tried. One of our favourite staff members. Italian restaurant: We only went one time to this restaurant. We both had the lamb which was lovely, although it was small portion. We weren’t told to go to the salad bar so we kind of just tried it. Everything was very cold eg. Pizza and calamari. The pizza was also very greasy. The desserts were a bit disappointing as well. But our main was lovely and the staff were great. Cappuccino cafe: Me and my partner absolutely loved it here. The menu was lovely and I especially loved the iced coffee with ice cream for a little treat. Also the chocolate cake is the best dessert in the whole resort! Would 1000% recommend you go there and it’s open all day! Don roberto: Breakfast: Breakfast was definitely one of the better meals of the day, mostly because everything was hot and fresh. We also loved the waiters Marlene and Nick in the outside area. The eggs Benedict was very hit or miss. Mostly cold and hard. Lunch: Honestly just felt very repetitive. Most of it was cold and one of my biggest issues was the labelling. Half of the time we didn’t know what we were eating due to the lack of labelling. One day it said the meat was duck but when we ate it, it was chicken. Again, mostly everything was cold so it was disappointing. Barbecue: We liked that it wasn’t the same food every single day. However when we had the burgers we found the meat was extremely undercooked and was on the bbq for less than 30 seconds. The condiments were great tho so it was disappointing. The potato wedges were also ice cold and a bit underdone. We enjoyed the tacos and nachos however. We also liked when we had the special drinks with the food, we tried Mexican candy and a few others. The guy on the bbq was very friendly and polite. Dinner: This was our worst meal. Eveything was extremely cold, and it was the same food basically every night. It also claims it’s 3 themed meals a week, and this definitely wasn’t the case. Was definitely the same food which was disappointing. Again, the labelling we found was terrible again. Was a mystery on what we were eating every single night. We tried to stay away from most seafood as it was usually stone cold and disappointing. On a positive note, we absolutely loved the crepe station. Was actual Nutella and the food was actually hot! Beach: The beach is obviously stunning and just what we came for. However, we found that the beach wasn’t really private. We had people constantly walking through, with young screaming children as well. We also had a whole family just sit on the beach using the loungers, umbrellas etc and weren’t told off. We also had guests from riu Cancun sit on the beach and get served. Considering this is a PALACE, we can go to them but they can’t go to us. The security didn’t do anything at all just twiddle his thumbs the whole stay we were there, never saw him do anything. I would also say the same for the lifeguard. Often looking at his phone. Wasn’t even looking at the water most of the time. I would bet money that if I was drowning in the sea, he wouldn’t see. Also considering it is a large complex with a lot water, there should be more than 1 useless lifeguard. Obviously the sargassum came in early this year, this is understandably annoying but we understand it’s a natural thing. But we would like to say the staff member who cleaned it up EVERY SINGLE DAY, was absolutely amazing. On his own every day and did his absolute best, was a never ending battle for him so we did feel for him. Pools: The pools were lovely to swim in but were extremely dirty. The amount of grout on the times as well as all the mismatched tiles. Again, lots of bodged jobs which was extremely obvious when looking at the pool. Sunbeds: Reserving sunbeds was a MASSIVE ISSUE here. We saw staff reserving sunbeds for guests as well. It is very frustrating especially when people don’t sit in their beds all day and come back to take their towel away and not use the space. There are signs saying no reservation, however they aren’t listened to. I do think they need to implement something to stop this from happening and also make this more fair on people. It is everyone’s holiday at the end of the day. Just a quick mention that the guy in the towel hut ( he works later on in the day) would be more friendly and maybe smile more. Overall, we had a great stay here. Cancun will hold a special place in our hearts. I do however think this isn’t a 5 star hotel, but with some tweaking it definitely could be. We would recommend this hotel as it is in a beautiful location.

Not five star, smells of mildew and mould
The hallways of the First Floor stink of mildew and mould, so that hits you hard on first going to your room. Far from five star, this would be a poor four star hotel in any other country. Food is very average, mass produced even in the special restaurants where they could take a bit more care and time. The doormen virtually harassed me after check out even though I had a ticket to stay until 7:30pm, every time I left they would question me in a way that I found abrupt and rude. The bar man at the pool would serve all the males before serving me, even I was standing there first, I put that down to a sexist attitude which is prevalent everywhere I would not recommend coming here as a single female as that latent sexism is everywhere, harassment by men on the roads etc. The noise from the pool area is like being in a trashy part of Ibiza. The only upside to this place is if you want to get smashed then the alcohol is included and plenty of it! Definitely would not return here!
