The food was very subpar at the 3 restaurants. Quite a letdown. Thank goodness I got such a great deal otherwise the rating would get even lower. The employees saved the trip.

Nov 10, 2025Wonderful Family Vacation at RIU Palace Costa Mujeres! 🌴
We were originally booked at the RIU Dunamar, but upon arrival, we were offered an upgrade to the RIU Palace Costa Mujeres for a suite — and what a great decision that turned out to be! My wife, our two kids (9 and 12), and I had an amazing time. The hotel is absolutely beautiful with top-notch accommodations and amenities. There were plenty of food options to choose from — whether you wanted a sit-down meal, buffet, or snacks by the pool, everything was delicious and fresh. The entertainment staff kept the energy up all day, and there was always something fun happening, from games and shows to the nightly events. Our kids loved the waterpark and the fact that there are six pools, including two adult pools for some quiet relaxation. The silent disco was such a fun surprise — a definite highlight for the whole family! The only downsides were a temporary power outage (which wasn’t the hotel’s fault — it affected the whole area) and the mattresses, which weren’t the most comfortable. Overall, this was a fantastic trip — a solid 9/10 experience. We’d absolutely recommend RIU Palace Costa Mujeres for families looking for a mix of relaxation, fun, and great service!

We had 7 people traveling. Original plan was to be in an adults only in Jamaica but due to the hurricane it was canceled. We switched to Mexico which was fine, but we did not have a choice on what resort we stayed at. Everything was booked in our price range. This stay at the Riu Dunamar was way less expensive then our original plan & obviously was not an adult only resort. The food was just meh. The specialty restaurants were not good. The steakhouse was horrible!! We pretty much ate at the buffet everyday. Same food there everyday. They may change it up at lunch a bit but basically the same stuff. The sports bar had deli sandwiches to go, fruit, and a few other things already prepared. The grounds were beautiful. The pools were ok. If you want a party vibe by the pools this is not the place. Adult pool with swim up bar was good and Adriano the bartender was awesome. Only a couple of shows were good. There was a silent disco and that was a great time. A rock band one night was pretty good then a circus type show was decent! Power went out for a day and a half. Rooms were hot and generators were used for the areas that were important. The ocean area is nice and the water is beautiful. The beds were comfortable but at night the halls by the rooms were loud. People just yelling or kids running the halls. The staff there work very hard. If anything was needed in the room they were right there. We made the best out of everything and enjoyed ourselves in Mexico. Will not be back to this Riu again.

Wonderful, relaxing vacation.
We stayed at end of October to celebrate my birthday and it was everything I hoped for we even added an additional night. The beach is stunning, their landscaping is beautiful and the pools are decent sized for all the guests that are there. They have entertainment throughout the day but also have spaces where you can retreat to if you want a quiet time without needing to go to your room. The food is good, the breakfast buffet pretty much offers the same menu every day which I wish that would vary it a bit more, only had the lunch buffet once which was very good too. We tried their grill area which was great to get a mid day snack and their specialty restaurants had great dinners. For my birthday they decorated my room which made my day even more special and we enjoyed every day drinks by the lobby bar with our favorite bartender Cristiano he was amazing! And also Adriano by the Tequila pool bar. Overall it was a great stay and will definitely be coming back! P.S. Make sure to pack mosquito repellent they are pretty much out all day and the shop carries some but they are overpriced by 100%.

Hotel Riu Dunamar
For being a large resort all of the necessary things were conveniently located, Bars and Restaurants. They were having a strain on their electrical system during our stay so some of the elevators were shutdown and they controlled the AC in the rooms. The pools and beach had plenty of lounge chairs.Hurricane Mellisa was sending some outrageous waves and undertow currents. Restaurants had plenty of food options. As usual the Bars always had happy hour going till closing but the sports bar was open 24/7. The rooms, we had two were immaculate and cleaned daily unless you didn't want then to clean. Someone was always cleaning the lobby and manicuring the landscape.
