Ok place to go, not the best

The two things that were outstanding was the beach, and the employees. The beach was blue as clear. The employees were perfect! Everything else was the mediocre. The room was dissatisfying, moldy smell, AC thermostat did not work, meaning if you turned it on and set it to 23 Celsius, it would not stop at 23, it would cool non stop. The elevators take forever!!!! I would highly recommend a low floor room so you can take the stairs. The food was good. I wish they had some Mexican food considering it’s Mexico...Overall 3.5/5 stars. Not bad, but nothing to brag about.

Would not go back.

I have been to Mexico 3 times now, this being the least favorite stay at Riu Cancun. I don't know if the hotel is older or is it just in bad shape. As soon as we walked into our hotel room we immediately smelled a strong mold and mildew odor. (Room 1201, 12th floor.) I looked at the air conditioning vent and it was covered in black dust/mold, as well as the ceiling fan blades .We should of requested another room right away, but we didn't want to be the annoying couple who demands another room. The bathroom had the strongest smell of mold (I assume because there was not a vent) The shower walls were sticky with I have no idea what. We rarely had a hot or warm shower, there was barely ever hot water, only after 6PM. I did not notice when I booked that they do not have room service for food. this was a huge problem for me, as I have an IT band tear in my hip and couldn't walk for a few days. I was basically stuck in my room and couldn't walk the long way to the other side of the resort to eat. My boyfriend tried bringing me back food to the room, which they do not let you for some reason. I requested a wheelchair and they declined and said it was only for emergencies and they could call an outside company to let us rent a wheelchair, which was $60 for 3 days. The food was fine, nothing to complain about there. Your basic all inclusive resort food. Drinks were not that great. Very sugary and cheap alcohol gave us headaches after just 1 or 2 drinks. We found that the bar by the farthest pool had some higher end alcohols, but not all of them. Was disappointed that the gym was up 5 to 6 flights of stairs without an elevator. I had wanted to continue my physical therapy exercises there, but couldn't; walk up all the stairs. I would say this is not a very handicapped friendly resort. All the elevators are not air-conditioned, so you are stuck in there with 6 other people in 90 degrees until you get to your floor. Pools were always clean and the beach was beautiful. The staff were always very nice. Overall, if your looking for a decent, clean, easily accessible resort, this isn't it.

My second time to this resort

I would like for the hotel management to review a rule that was harsh. This is my second visit to this resort because I like this place. Even though I had unpleasant experience I still would recommend this place because the staff is usually friendly, the location is great and the activities are fun. I went to check out, and one of the towel key cards wasn’t with me. It was in the room I am sure of it. Lady at desk was rude and wanted me to go upstairs and find it or pay 20$. By the way this was not something addressed at check in with signs like it was at check out. I informed lady that I don’t want to be late to my flight, and my shuttle is here. I just didn’t grab all the cards because i didn’t think it was a major thing. I wouldn’t steal a towel coming all the way here to Mexico. She said well “we keep track of cards”. This is not true. I had lost my room key night prior and the previous front desk gave me a key card and was very pleasant. It just seemed like this was a money making deal. Please address this. We spends thousands of dollars coming to your place. I tip your waiters 20$ at a time, but it’s the principal that matters. Now I’ll prob not stay here again just because of that moment that was not professional over 20$! Thanks.

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

No golf carts needed here to get around - you can stumble from the pool to the beach to the restaurants & bars easily.

Three pools with ocean views and breezes means you and your travel mate/partner/husband/wife/dog won't be on top of each other.

The soul-soothing whirlpool off the gym. Yea - you can picture yourself there.

The delicious food & drinks, incredible service, fun-loving entertainment - it's like being wrapped in a cozy beach blanket.

At the cooking stations at the restaurants, they'll cook you up something "on the fly" - now that's what you're talking about!

What We'd Change

The gift shop at the resort is a bit pricey, but right across the street is a large supermarket so you can pick up any groceries you might want or things you forgot for a lot cheaper.

Why You Should Go

It's about 13 miles from the airport & in the smokin' hot Cancun resort area. You've landed in the epicenter of Awesome.

Don't miss Isle Mujeres - stunning beaches, fresh seafood, loads of culture. In town, you can find a museum or two!

You can rent a bicycle and explore that nearby shopping center (or go all the way downtown).

Soak up all that Riu Caribe (sister resort!) has to offer - the diving pool is da bomb.
