The Spa was terrible

The spa attendant was extremely rude and ruin my entire spa experience. Her name was Beryl and she was extremely rough and did not deliver the treatment I signed up for. I explained this to the the front desk and she said she would have her manager contact me for a follow up. No one ever did. I will never return to a Secrets spa again if this is the way they treat people. The price you pay for a massage is not worth it. If they want to ask for first class spa prices they should deliver first class spa treatments.

Great Vacation

Overall, this was a great vacation at a beautiful resort and I would definitely return. I’ll breakdown my thoughts into categories: Preferred Club: This was definitely worth it! The pool was far less crowded and much more quiet, but if you wanted a the more lively scene, you could simply go to the mail pool. Also, they serve a nice breakfast in the preferred lounge in the morning so you don’t have to go to the buffet over at the sister resort ( wild orchid) unless you wanted to. Also, they have snacks and all sorts of alcohol available all day. The beach: Absolutely beautiful! The water was warm and calm. We went in August, and there were some jelly fish you had to watch out for. That was the only negative, but that’s not the resort’s fault. Restaraunts: I don’t think you go to an all inclusive resort for an exceptional culinary experience, so do temper your expectations. Blue Mountain was good, the Mexican was blah, and the French restaraunt was the favorite. We didn’t get to try the Asian or Italian places. I will say the restaraunt on the rooftop of the breathless resort across the pathway had amazing views and good food. That place probably takes the cake. Entertainment: We wished the entertainment at the piano bar started earlier. Most of those didn’t start until 10:30pm. The house band was good. There really weren’t many performances while we were there. Fitness Center: My God. So crowded and stressful. One tiny fitness center seemed to be shared between 3 resorts— st James, breathless, and wild orchid. Not okay!! Unless you were there before 7:30am, or don’t mind an afternoon or evening workout, you will be waiting for cardio equipment, free weights, and machines for what feels like forever. There isn’t even a slice of floor you can find to do core work or stretching. This was a definite negative and it would serve them well to expand the fitness center. Staff & Service: Overall, the staff were friendly. Kerrie in the preferred lounge and Oceana grill was wonderful. Some of the bartenders at the Marlin pool bar were friendly, and others couldn’t give a darn. Also, the bars were out of mint our last two days, so you couldn’t get a simple mojito. That was odd and frustrating since it’s such a simple thing to keep on hand at a bar. We asked for a second luggage rack that also never came. Lastly, and maybe this is common knowledge, but there was a privacy light button, which if switched on, signaled outside of your room and indicated you didn’t want your room cleaned or mini bar stocked that day. We had no idea about this, and accidentally had it switched on for two days. It just would’ve been nice to know about that feature in advance so we could’ve avoided turning it on. Grounds: A big shout out to the grounds crew! They work hard to keep the grounds beautiful and clean, and it shows.

Beautiful resort

The resort was absolutely gorgeous. For beach and pool lovers, this is prime. Pros- everything was clean and well kept, the people were so friendly and wonderful! I truly felt like everyone who waited on me was invested in my experience being wonderful. The room was so comfortable with gorgeous views. Cons- We could hear doors slamming to other rooms down the hall in our room-it was quite loud. The food was good, but not exceptional, and I found myself wishing there was an easier way to get cheap and easy snacks in our room, without having to call for a full room service meal or venture out to one of the restaurants. Truly, though, it was great and I felt like I did get my money's worth! That beach was incredible!

Secrets St. James

Treated my fiancé for his birthday to a mini getaway to St. James July 22-July 26, 2019. It was amazing. - The room was beautiful and was efficiently cleaned every day. We stayed in a Junior Suite Garden View. - The staff is personable, friendly, and accommodating. Definitely stop by the bar in the main lobby and let “Mama” take care of ya! Andre at the Manatees Swim-up Bar is also one of the bartenders at the resort that truly makes you feel at home. - The food at all the restaurants are good, but not great. Blue Mountain was my favorite. Himitsu (Pan-Asian) is the only restaurant where reservations are a must. - The beaches/pools/views. I would solely come to this resort for the exceptional views. Every turn is breathtaking. The beaches are well maintained and absolutely beautiful. The pools are awesome and there were always seats available around the pools and beaches. There were also servers to take drink orders around the pools and beaches. - Tips: * The resort offers a personal tablet in each room. You can order room service via the tablet, but it takes a bit of time for whatever you order to arrive. You can reserve a table at Himitsu, I would do so early on your vacation. The personal tablet also provides a list of activities that the entertainment team offers for the week, which is really helpful. * There’s a room service door where if room service is ordered and your privacy light is on, the staff will discretely place your order in the room service door. Pretty handy! * Complimentary Wi-Fi is available and works well. * Secrets St. James guests can also use facilities in Secrets Wild Orchid, and vice versa. * Mosquitoes are a pain! Get bug spray! * FIND THE MAN WITH THE JERK CHICKEN CART! I would definitely come back here again!

What's to Love

As of June 2018 you can bring your furry friend along!

Being greeted with sparkling adult beverages and cool towels - a fab treat after enduring the perils (and people) of travel.

Suites in British Colonial decor (luscious cream and warm woods) with epic views of endless teal.

The quiet half-mile, sugar-sand beach with thatched-roof palapas and cushy cabanas.

Oh-so comfy rooms with soft, white robes & slippers, luxury bath amenities, and a Jacuzzi tub. Delicious.

Secrets box for private room service delivery - you don't ever have to see a human if you don't want to.

Melting into stress-smashing treatments like an Aromatherapy Massage and Seaweed Wrap.

Butler phones booked through the Preferred Club - these humans will draw your bath, bring you a coffee, you name it.

Play tennis or bocce ball. Take dance lessons or Euro-Bungee (you're a human slingshot, but it's fun).

What We'd Change

Some of the restaurants have dress codes, so pack some dressier frocks. Or, enjoy the outside seating options for a more casual night.

Why You Should Go

Only 25 minutes from the airport so you'll be at the resort before you can say "Irie Mon." (It means you're doing well).

Upgrade to the Preferred Club, get better rooms with a pillow menu, afternoon hot and cold hors d'oeuvres and more.

Some of the restaurants have dress codes so make sure you bring your gussied-up duds.

The resort brings in local artisans to display their wares that include beautiful wood carved objets d' art.

Five golf courses are near, one of which is the famed White Witch Golf Course. Pretend you're playing Tiger.

Get wild and watery with all the water sports: kayaking, scuba, Hobie cats and more.

A half hour of snorkeling is FREE!

The wedding/honeymoon packages with wine, fresh flowers and champagne breakfast in bed. Plus a 15% discount on spa treatments.
