Very Nice

I have been traveling a long time to different Islands. Certainly, all of Jamaica gives you the Island feel. Places like Mexico, Puerto Rico, Miami, Bahamas, even Aruba, do not give you an Island feel. Riu Tropical Bay has been renovated to a quality resort. Everything about the resort is amazing, The Beach is top of the line, the service as you lay on the beach is awesome, the breakfast buffet is great, the restaurants are awesome, except the Italian Restaurant. There is nothing Italian about the food. Maybe they need to change that one? Other than the Italian restaurant, the rest were awesome...The three pools, from pool bar, activity pool with basketball, and volleyball, and then the relaxing pool were nice. However they were small. The pool bar, is too small, and there is no swimming up to a pool bar, just standing and everyone drinking, and spilling drinks in the water, no room to swim around and escape to an area in the pool..just surrounded by people who want to get drunk..I remained in the quiet pool that has children with small rafts...Other than that, we made it happen. The resort has many amenities that will make you comfortable. The water sports are great, and the beach life is top of the line. The night life is fun and you will have a great time...we loved Riu Tropical Bay, but no body gets 5 stars....4 stars are good here because of the small imperfections. Have a great time!!

Relaxing Trip

This was my 3rd trip to Jamaica, and 2nd at a Riu. I recommend this spot for a great relax-cation on a moderate budget. The entertainment was phenomenal! The food was ok, but there was always plenty to choose from. This resort was very clean and the staff was great!

Almost perfect...

The beach was amazing! Sandy and calm, beautiful water. Beach service was spotty, great one day, very slow the next. The locals that were selling were a little pushy as well, one 'not interested' should be sufficient. I was disappointed to find there are no hot tubs/jacuzzis anywhere on the property, even in the spa. There was also no water volleyball :-( This is a go-to for us on vacation and it wasn't offered at all while we were there. Also, there should be an evening swimming option. One pool should be available for an evening dip before or even after dinner. Service during the 'snacks session' is not good. The servers did not want to be there for sure and we couldn't sit at any table, instead were sat next to a family of 4 with only 4 chairs between the 6 of us. They squeezed in chairs and there were many empty tables available but they didn't want to sit anyone there in preparation for the dinner session, which was 3 hours away. All other meal servers were great! Our massages in the spa were awesome. The only other 2 negatives are 1) in the room, the bathroom light switch is on the outside of the bathroom. When one person gets up to go in the middle of the night, the light streams into the room. 2) the exterior landscaping/tree lights make a terrible high pitch squeal. Small inconveniences. Overall a great trip with a few noticeably missing benefits.

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

The stunning beach with ivory, soft sands hugged by the bluest of tranquil, dreamy water.

Melting at the luscious spa, where the massages and facials transport you to Nirvana.

The outrageously delish, lip-smackin' Jamaican BBQ you can nosh on while chillaxing by the ocean.

The Victorian-style buildings bathed in happy, soft pink, which cause instant happiness.

The liquor dispenser in your room. Your hour of happy can start any time of day.

24-hour room service - if you've got a hankering for grub at 3:15 a.m., you can get it. For realz.

The bonfire and DJ on the beach - you'll feel like you're in a movie.

What We'd Change

The airport is a little over an hour from the resort, but once you get there you'll never want to leave.

Why You Should Go

You can hang out at the sister resort, which includes free access & drinks at the disco, Pacha. Woot!

There are oceans of activities for the kiddos, and even a children's playground where you can have some sandy fun.

Must-dos: Rhodes Hall Plantation for horseback riding & Roaring River for swimming in a fresh water sinkhole.

Don't miss bodyboarding, sail boats, snorkeling and/or for a fee scuba and jet skiing. Dive in.

On land, there's water polo and volleyball in the pool for your splish-splashing pleasure.

On the way home, plant yourself in Club MoBay at the airport for grub and A/C. It's so worth it.
