Great value for the price!!

Couldn't have been more happy going to Palace Tropical Bay. Been to the "regular" Riu resoerts which were good but the Palace puts it over the top. Staff were all great and friendly, food was great, don't think I ate anything I didn't really like though the Italian restaurant could have been better. Beach and pools were nice, rooms were very clean as was the entire resort. Can't wait to go back, definetly worth a little more for the Palace.

Not happy

Where to start. First off the remodel helped improve the looks, but as a contractor I can tell you it was rushed and poor quality work. There is supposed to be 3 pools, 2 were running, then another broke and they tore it out, so construction noise all the time. The bathroom in the suite is poorly designed, Im not a big person but I could not fit between the shower door and the sink counter. The door goes into shower which helped if you press yoursellf up against the inside wall. So again poorly designed.. Now lets talk about the cockroaches, everywhere, everywhere cockroaches. In my room, in the hallway on our patio. BIG COCKROACHES> We had to leave our luggage outside for 2 days after we got home, then I pulled them into garage to remove the clothes from there and wash. Didnt work we have cockroaches in the garage now and need to have entire home treated. Thanks!!! It is supposed to be All Inclusive and we have been here 3 times before to same resort, but the frozen drinks at the bar have no alcohol in them unless you ask. The choices are limited on the beer front which is bad, how can you be a five star resort and have no Crown Royal or heineken beers. In addition you have a mini fridge in your room you get 2 flat cokes, 2 flat sprites, water and seltzer water then they give you 2 beers per day in a can, 2 for 2 people for all day. Usually you leave some money in the fridge and they put more beer in. This time they took our money and didnt leave but 2 beers. My husband hates draft beer, let alone Red Stripe. As for the dining you have 4 restaurants that are booked days in advance. Even with a reservation you have to wait long periods of time before being seated then the service is SLOW> As for main dining its a buffet, the dining area is better but its the same 30 dishes served breakfast, lunch and dinner. We were so sick of food after a week and we had 2 weeks to go. I was never more happy to come home. And last the air conditioner. The rooms only get so cold and when its 90 degrees outside its not cool enough. Yes they have 2 new Caterpillar generators but the power went out , our tv went out the wifi went out almost daily. The the worst was the Air conditioner went out. I would say its ok things happen, but the air going out happens every tije we are at this resort. . So as much as I love Jamaica, we will never return to this resort. Which is a shame since Im a RIU Gold member. Overall just disappointed

Beach perfect , pools horrible

The beach is perfect , so far the best beach I’ve bren too Pools are square small and all close too each other villas are so far from them. Restaurants are small , they don’t have a lot of food selection . They renovated the resort to make it better but instead they made it worse with little pools . Like riu in Mexico is 100X better . Also no activities outside the resort they’re either too far or too expensive . I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone honestly , unless you come here only for the beach Oh and I booked beach view but there’s no beach view it’s all tree views Also no hot tub jacuzzi in the whole resort .

Nice Resort, Beautiful Beach

The resort is lovely with 3 pools and beautiful beach. Food was good and enjoyed the speciality restaurants, although small and no reason to to require men to wear dress pants and no restrictions for women. Would be nice to keep the vendors more limited on the beach as it becomes a little uncomfortable after a while. Service was very good and most employees were very pleasant. We enjoyed our time there.

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

The stunning beach with ivory, soft sands hugged by the bluest of tranquil, dreamy water.

Melting at the luscious spa, where the massages and facials transport you to Nirvana.

The outrageously delish, lip-smackin' Jamaican BBQ you can nosh on while chillaxing by the ocean.

The Victorian-style buildings bathed in happy, soft pink, which cause instant happiness.

The liquor dispenser in your room. Your hour of happy can start any time of day.

24-hour room service - if you've got a hankering for grub at 3:15 a.m., you can get it. For realz.

The bonfire and DJ on the beach - you'll feel like you're in a movie.

What We'd Change

The airport is a little over an hour from the resort, but once you get there you'll never want to leave.

Why You Should Go

You can hang out at the sister resort, which includes free access & drinks at the disco, Pacha. Woot!

There are oceans of activities for the kiddos, and even a children's playground where you can have some sandy fun.

Must-dos: Rhodes Hall Plantation for horseback riding & Roaring River for swimming in a fresh water sinkhole.

Don't miss bodyboarding, sail boats, snorkeling and/or for a fee scuba and jet skiing. Dive in.

On land, there's water polo and volleyball in the pool for your splish-splashing pleasure.

On the way home, plant yourself in Club MoBay at the airport for grub and A/C. It's so worth it.
