Fantastic, staff make the hotel , Beauitful people, Beauitful country can’t wait to get back
Review of Riu Negril – September 2025 We’ve just returned from an absolutely fantastic holiday at Riu Negril. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and we can’t wait to return. I’ll share both the positives and the few areas that could be improved. Areas for Improvement • Children’s Pool Area: There’s a brilliant play area for little ones, but it isn’t supervised. While the signage clearly states it’s parents’ responsibility, we did notice some parents leaving their children unattended. Also, some guests left plates of food lying around, which attracted wasps. It would be great if staff occasionally monitored the area to help keep it tidier. • Room Cleaning Timing: Our room was always cleaned to a very high standard, but with a young child needing an afternoon nap, sometimes we returned to find it hadn’t yet been serviced. Not a complaint – just something we noticed because of our routine. Highlights & Positives • Entertainment Team: Absolutely fantastic! Always smiling, full of energy, and they worked tirelessly to keep guests entertained – even moving activities indoors during the rain. Special shout-outs to Shadow, Shaquille, and Princess for being amazing. • Lifeguards: Always present at all the pools (apart from the baby pool), constantly tidying and making sure everyone was safe. The beach was also well covered – a great reassurance. • Photography: Tyrone was wonderful, especially with our godson. He always stopped to chat and interact with him – such a lovely touch that made our stay extra special. • Restaurant Staff: A huge thank you to Daniil, who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. All the staff were kind and friendly, but Daniil stood out for his warmth and interaction with children. • Gardening & Cleaning Teams: Often the unsung heroes, but the gardeners and cleaners worked tirelessly to keep the grounds and dining areas spotless. They deserve recognition for their efforts. • Reception Team: Always polite, friendly, and wonderful with children. Management One area I feel could be improved is visibility from management. The General Manager and his assistants were occasionally seen walking through, but they didn’t seem to interact with guests. A simple hello or chat would go a long way to show appreciation to the customers who make the hotel what it is. Final Thoughts Overall, Riu Negril exceeded our expectations. The staff are the heart of this resort – so many go above and beyond every day, often unnoticed. We left with wonderful memories, especially thanks to how our godson was treated like part of the family. We would 100% recommend this hotel and will definitely be back! 🌴☀️

Average at best!
I just got back from a 7 nights stay at this Riu location. All in all I had a good experience. The hotel is well maintained and kept very clean. The food is good and the buffet has a wide selection of cuisines including local favorites, pizza, vegetarian options ect. The property was recently renovated which makes it feel brand new. The beach at the property is not the quality of the usual beach stretch in Negril, so don’t expect the same beautiful beach as the 7 mile stretch. There’s a considerable amount of seaweed near the shore, the sand stops at the shoreline and what follows after is a muddy slimy texture to the sand that feels disgusting to walk on. I wouldn’t be surprised if this beach was previously a mangrove before the hotel was built. This hotel is called Riu Negril but is actually located in Hanover which is a neighboring parish. The staff in my opinion are rough around the edges; not in a charming way, as I assume some of them think they are. Arrived at the lobby on day one with only two agents at the front desk at 3 pm with a queue forming. Was checked in by a staff member returning from break which took all of 5 minutes: only asked to verify my email and repeated several times before placing the wristband that if I lose it I will have to pay $250. Before leaving the check in desk I had to ask if there were any bellhops on staff to help with my luggage since right before checking in I had roll my luggages up the ramp into the lobby. I was given the stickers and pointed in their direction. Two waitresses had an argument at breakfast for about 5 to 10 minutes before what I assumed was a supervisor stepped in. I mean full-on going up into each other’s faces ready to fight and being separated by a lady from house keeping. I saw a male waiter literally throwing the coffee cups and saucers on the table in front of me. Not sure if he was rushing or angry but the crashing sound startled me a little. The general greeting when you sit at the table at the buffet seems to be “ you ahlright?”, which translates to please just say yes so I can move on without getting you anything to drink since you can get it yourself. Cappuccino machine rarely works, out of 7 nights I got maybe 3 cappuccino’s between breakfast and dinner. I would only stay again if I have another trip where it’s a mixture of business and leisure as this trip was and if the price is reasonable.

Great experience, deserves more than 3.9 rating
I'm surprised tk see the 3.9 rating during the time of me writing this review. I wanted an affordable get away for me and my husband and we settled on Riu Negril. Cleanliness: The room and shower were clean, no complaints there. However the couches were slightly stained, I believe that may have been ue to age and there's nothing that can be done about that. We just put a blanket before sitting. Throughout the resort was also clean. Food: As a Jamaican myself, I can confirm there was a wide variety of options (jamaican and non-jamaican options). We went in Feb so we missed mango season, but we were told that there are mango trees on site that guests are allowed to pick!! So we will have to visit again during may/june. The drinks were very good !!! Bartenders do a good job at mixing Service: Everyone was very nice and pleasant, if we asked for something we got it and promptly. There was one girl at the reception, Brittany very rude! Aside from her everyone was a pleasure Activites: The daily pool activities were engaging, along with the nightly shows. My husband enjoyed the gym facilities. They have a fair amount of free water activities included that we took advantage of. What I liked the most: (During all my off resort experiences, I felt very safe) 1. If you walk along the beach, it will take you off the resort. It allows you to venture off the resort at your own will. There are many vendors where you can buy things, have conversations and learn about their business, but be prepared for a lot of people asking you to check out their shop. 2. One day my husband and I got a driver to take us to 7 mile beach and it truly is a beautiful beach. We stayed there all day just enjoying the water. 3. The all white party was a vibe. If you have transportation available to you or you use the hotel transportation visit Jerk Center very good and saucy jerk pork available ! The owners name is Sheba, she was very welcoming. We also tried Ragga bone, but i preferred Jerk Center. It could be because we got the last plate of the morning, but it was a bit dry for my liking. I was told the key to Ragga bone, is to arrive before 10am, because everything will be gone by 11am, I believe they open at 9am. *** We met someone on the resort who set up a driver for us at a much more affordable rate than what the resort offered. Do this at your own risk! Alternatively, use the transportation offered by the resort. This was my first Riu resort and all in all Riu Negril, offered a lot more than I expected based on the reviews. This could also be because we visited shortly after they reopened after the renovations. But I would definitely return!!

Lovely resort
Just returned home from a 10 day family holiday at rui negri. We had a wonderful time.however there are a few negatives that let the hotel down but mostly these negatives are down to hotels guests behavior leaving their litter on the beach soiled nappies, bottles, cans, drinking cups, damaged used buoyancy aids. Not totally the hotel fault but the complimentary bottles ,canned drinks taken from the hotel ar being abused I would suggest the hotel be more conscienceous and stop giving guests the opportunity to litter and pollute the oceans simple really. The hotel is lovely very contemporary In colour and ethsteics. Lots of areas within the hotel if you want quite and just to chill .plenty of bars about the resort to grab a ice cold drink of your choice or a hot beverage if you prefer and always served to you with a smile .the dining options are exceptional the steak house ,Malay restaurant, gourmet restaurant, were excellent we thought probably service was a rushed but the again the staff in the restaurants were very professional and courteous. The main buffet restaurant again excellent a vast amount of food options on offer always plentiful cooked well breakfast lunch and dinner times.staff in the buffet restaurant were all lovely and attentive a big shout out to ingrid she's so lovely and will make sure you have everything to enjoy your meal. There is daytime activities if you want to participate in as well as evening activities and shows including beach party which was great . The gardens about the resort is kept beautifully. The resort is kept spotlessly clean throughout except the beach area as mentioned previously. Sea shoes /footwear I'd advise to be worn if you go into the sea as you can't always see the marine life on the sea bed such as starfish crab rays etc I got a sharp nip from i think from a crab . Our bedrooms were very big and spacious big balcony looking on to the garden plenty of hot water for your showers massive comfy beds nice soft towels very good A/C and fan we felt the fan was efficient to cool the room without overusing theA/C. So all in all we had a great holiday and would recommend this hotel
