Highly disappointed!!

If you are looking for a relaxing beach vacation the Riu Montego Bay is not the place. Beach area is very small, and no shade. All cabanas are around the pools. Way too many people and way, way too many kids that are allowed to jump, splash, kick on their rafts in the swim up bar area. We did not appreciate pool water in our drinks or sitting next to a 5 yrs. old at the bar in the pool. Their were 2 other pools that the kids could play and have fun in.3pm pool entertainment got to be much everyday. Planes go over head from 9am - 9pm so close you can almost wave to the people on the planes. Food was not great either. We went to the Steak House restaurant (what can you do to steak) well it was tough, fatty and tasteless. We talked to others in the resort thinking we just got a bad steak, but they said the same about the food. The nightly buffet was not much better. The best food was the lady making ":made-to-order" omelets in the morning. We ate Jerk chicken (cooked on the beach daily) for lunch everyday because the luncheon buffet was so crowded you had to wait and grab a table as soon as someone left. The rooms were very nice and clean, the staff was pleasant. If you are over 60 and looking for a relaxing, beach vacation this is not the place for you!!

No wine

No wine, no food in your room No top shelf liquor and you need a towel card to just to get a towel. Been to Jamaica 3 times by far the worst place.

Food at steak house worse steak we ever had

Steak house steak was bristly fat and hard to cut! Service almost nonexistent had to ask FOUR times for a second glass of wine! Waiter terrible!! Asked others the next day what they thought they had nothing good to say about the steak house and the Italian restaurant. The food at smorgasbord was ok and the service there was GREAT! Pool bar ok but to many kids splashing water and jumping off stools splashing water into drinks! If you go I sure hope your experience is better than ours

Very nice resort but not over the top.

We just got back from our trip to Riu Montego Bay. We are 2 couples all in our 60s. We had a great time and have no major complaints about the resort. The resort is somewhat dated but very clean and comfortable. One of the staff told us that it is slated for a complete renovation in 2020. The dining options are somewhat limited, but you should never go away hungry as the buffets have an incredible variety of different foods. They should do a better job of labeling them though. We didn't attend all of the nightly shows but we did enjoy those that we saw. The dancers and actors in the shows are also the people who see to the daily activities and entertainment around the pool and on the beach during the day. It was fun to talk to and interact with them. The only bad experience that I had was at the checkin counter when we first got there. Another patron was having trouble with his room and apparently he was unhappy about how long it was taking the staff to resolve the issue. I was behind him in line and one of the ladies at the counter motioned me up next to him so that she could wait on me. The irate patron thought that I was somehow cutting in ahead of him and began verbally attacking me. This went on far too long and I was surprised and disappointed that the staff and or security didn't do anything to defuse the situation. Our flight home was a nightmare too, but that's on Jet Blue not Riu.

What's to Love

The epic-sized pool goes on for days and has room for everyone. No trouble finding a lounger here.

Delicious Jerk Chicken at the shack on the beach. It'll be your daily pit stop.

You'll love the "drink of the day" - fun, sometimes fruity, and definitely worth a cheers.

Every room has a balcony and nothing beats sitting outside your room with warm ocean breezes.

The luscious Renova Spa does wonders for your body and soul. You'll thank us later.

Carve out time to snorkel off the gentle shores of Jamaica. The plankton shine brightly and can't wait to see you.

Put on your dancing shoes because the band at the Coconut Bar has got some serious steely tunes.

What We'd Change

Reserving dinner seating at the a la carte restaurants is a must. Book early - even before you arrive, if you can.

Why You Should Go

Just a hop, skip and a jig away from Sanger International Airport in Montego Bay. Beachy drinks await.

Dunns Falls is a great day trip - hiking, zip lining, snorkeling, picnicking - it's a blast for everyone.

The staff is amazing. Seriously, they take care of it all. You just sit back and let the pampering begin.

Bring your own colorful beach towel if you want to easily see your lounger by the pool.

Start off your day at the sweat-busting gym. Always good to get those toxins out of your bod.

If you're there in July, check out the Reggae Sumfest. Jammin', mon.
