Great choice for first time in Jamaica

We had a great time at the Holiday Inn Montego Bay. This was our first trip to Jamaica, and we really wanted safe, clean, and easy access to both the airport and the main attractions. I will say that although it's good to plan your excursions ahead, you don't save any money by doing so. They can all easily be booked right in the lobby of the hotel. Dashiel our rep from cheap carribean/amstar tours at the hotel could not have been more helpful. It's also unnecessary to arrange transportation from the airport ahead of time, bc the holiday inn is v v close to the airport, and there is no shortage of drivers. Cab ride for both of us was about $25. Booking ahead it was much more money. Although the food was good, if a high end gourmet experience is what you want, you probably need to look elsewhere. The best restaurant (upgrade- $25 extra per person) was the seaside Jamaican jerk grill. We happily dined at the buffet, the fruit and carving/grill stations were highlights. Word of warning: despite Jamaica's reputation for good coffee, you will not be having any good coffee at this hotel :/. Best bet is to have one of the incredibly helpful drivers take you to the local grocery store. This resort has live entertainment every single night, the violinist playing pop songs and reggae anthems was phenomenal, as were the native dance teams. All of the entertainment was excellent, and they have a wonderful central stage and viewing area. We had the time of our lives, and want to thank especially Bryan our driver, and Clarence our favorite bartender. The people we met in Jamaica are what made the trip so special. They are so friendly and welcoming that you almost think it's fake--- but even my jaded cynical East coast heart was won over by the sincerity and kindness of the Jamaican people. This is not a resort for folks looking for a wild time, but it was exactly what we were looking for. If you do nothing else, Bob Marley 9mile, and riding horses in the carribean are unforgettable. I am already plotting my return to this beautiful paradise that touched my heart and affected me deeply. Only criticism of the resort is that the kayaking and snorkeling on-site is very limited. The catamaran trips are fantastic!!! We were blessed by the island with a double rainbow on our last morning.

Good Value but very Family/Kid Oriented

We enjoyed our time here. The resort is quite large and spread out, which was nice. They have their own island you can wade out to, a nice feature. But there was a ton of kids running around, so therefore it was loud at times. The best things were, the staff were very nice. The place is lovely, the beach, the island all wonderful. We did not use the pools, but they appeared nice. The food was OK. Some things were great, others not so much. The negatives were the entertainment and the music. Not very much Reggae at all, very disappointing. More pop/country music. Simply awful for the Jamaican vibe. Also the lines for the bar were often long, so long we said forget it. Also the spa service prices were VERY high. I would recommend the Holiday Inn to others especially if they had younger children, but we will not be returning.

3rd Great Time at the Resort

We love the Holiday Inn Montego Bay. This was our 3rd stay. It is a family friendly resort. The rooms are spacious and clean. Food is great, especially the jerk hut. Spent the day relaxing on the beach, drinking rum punch and Red Stripe, and eating great food. We did not get a room we requested when we first arrived. However, we were able to move the next day. We always try to get an ocean front by the "Jerk Hut". The "Jerk Hut" now has a restaurant in the evenings. There was an extra charge, but well worth it. Our only problem was our room was not cleaned till late afternoon to early evening. We ran out of toilet paper twice and did not get any until the cleaners came in, even though we called for some. Evenings were spent watching the entertainment on the pool stage and using the small casino! We will definetely be back!

Family vacation

This is a great location for a family. Building 5 was a great location away from the main area but close enough to all the snack shacks. I would return here with my family again. Water and beach were great. A few more friendly and smiling faces from all the staff would help improve my review.
