    Lots of Love for Jamaica

We had a wonderful time for our week on vacation here in June 2025. The resort was very clean. The beaches were well maintained and immaculate. They swept the chairs and raked the beach by hand daily. The entertainment was good but not as high quality as we have seen elsewhere. Overall the food was good. We LOVED the hibachi restaurant! Our butlers Oshain and Daron gave 5 star service. We had daily service from the diamond club bar that was spectacular from Chevele and Shamere as well. The property needs some updates (nothing major but an example is a loose doorknob in room bathroom and our curtain rod was bent and difficult to close) but we heard that is coming soon. There were a few times the restaurants were out of items on the menus. There was nothing that would stop me from coming back. The Jamaican people were warm and welcoming!

    NOT a Five Star Resort

Honest Review of Royalton: Beautiful Beach, Uneven Experience Let me start with the good, because there were definitely some highlights worth recognizing. The beach was hands down the best part of the entire resort—clean, spacious, and absolutely beautiful. The water was stunning, and there was always plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the view. Our Diamond Club butler, Kirk, deserves a shout-out. He was responsive, easy to reach, and genuinely helpful throughout our stay. Our second butler was mostly absent due to illness, so we didn’t have much interaction with her. Still, Kirk picked up the slack. The Diamond Club pool was another win—clean, quiet, and just steps from our building (#1). The continental breakfast and fresh-brewed coffee were great for a quick start to the day, and there were plenty of top-shelf spirits available for those wanting to add a little flavor to their drinks. Our one-bedroom Presidential Suite was spacious and clean, though a bit dated. Supposedly, renovations are coming starting October 2025, but only in phases. It’s worth noting that while half the staff were friendly and attentive, the other half acted like we were inconveniencing them by asking for help. That’s not five-star service. ⸻ Where Things Fell Short Let me lay out the realities behind the negatives I mentioned, because they matter. Check-in was chaotic. No clear signage, no immediate greeting—just confusion. We stood around in the lobby unsure of what to do until someone finally gave us direction. Apparently, once you arrive, someone is supposed to greet you, confirm your name, and direct you to your assigned building where you formally check in. That didn’t happen. Once we were checked in, our butler Kirk took us to our very hot room. I turned the AC to the lowest setting, but it didn’t make a difference. The air units pushed out a weak, lukewarm breeze at best. I raised the issue a few times, but it went nowhere. Thankfully, ceiling fans in each room helped somewhat—without them, the suite would have been unbearable, especially at night. Another note: housekeeping keeps the door propped open while cleaning, which lets out any cool air you’ve managed to build up. So even if you manage to cool down the room, that effort gets undone daily. ⸻ The Food: Quantity Over Quality The resort advertises itself as five-star, but the food experience didn’t match the claim. The buffet had plenty of options, but the quality was hit or miss. Some items were decent, but most were just average, and there was a real issue with consistency. For example, mango disappeared from the fruit display halfway through our 10-day stay and never returned. That might seem minor, but it speaks to a lack of planning and execution. To eat at the restaurants, you need a reservation. Diamond Club guests can make them through their butler (thanks again, Kirk), but everyone else is expected to use the app—which apparently rarely works. Almost everyone in our 70-person wedding group had issues getting a reservation this way. Of the restaurants we tried: • The Italian restaurant was the standout—good food, good service. • Hunter Steakhouse had a solid French onion soup, but the steaks were fatty and tough. If you’re from the U.S., lower your expectations when it comes to beef. ⸻ The Bars & Other Oddities The pool and beach bars were all over the place. Some days they had pina coladas. Other days they didn’t. Sometimes they’d run out for a few days at a time, then bring them back… only to run out again. The cabana reservation process was confusing and poorly communicated. Most of the time we only found out if we had one right before heading to the beach. As for cleanliness, we personally didn’t see any of the infamous brown bugs mentioned in other reviews, but our daughter did find one in her room, and several people in our group saw them too. So, they’re around. ⸻ Booking Woes One of the biggest headaches was the booking process. Since we were attending a destination wedding, we had to book through a third-party (Luxe Destination Weddings). Big mistake. We could’ve booked directly with the resort for the same price and earned Bonvoy points—something we’re now fighting to get retroactively. The third-party rep, Kawaljeet Singh, was completely unhelpful throughout the process. No added value. No follow-through. Nothing but frustration. ⸻ Final Thoughts If “average” is what you’re after and your expectations are modest, then go for it. You’ll likely enjoy the beach and pool. But if you’re used to high standards—especially when it comes to food, service, and air conditioning—you’ll probably leave disappointed. Here’s my advice: • Book directly with the resort—don’t use a third-party. • Set realistic expectations, especially with food and drink. • Bring patience—you’ll need it. • And definitely, take a walk down the beach to check out a nearby beach bar with better beer options, live entertainment, and a casual lobster shack where you can pick your own lobster and have it cooked on the spot. That ended up being a highlight. ⸻ Let’s hope those October 2025 renovations come with a full overhaul in operations. The potential is there. But until then, it’s a resort with a great beach, a few bright spots, and a lot of room for improvement.

    Dingy Rooms

We have just returned home and I thought I’d get a review in while it’s all fresh in my mind. After a long flight and transfer, we eventually got to our room at around 9pm to discover there was no bed made up for our child, there were no towels, the safe was locked, so we couldn’t put our valuables in and the telephone didn’t work. This unfortunately meant my husband going to reception 3 times over the course of 2 hours. He was polite the first 2 times, but by the 3rd time was visibly frustrated, it was only after this that we were delivered towels and our child’s bed was made up. Once we showered, we then realised that the shower didn’t drain very well, and was taking over an hour to drain after 1 shower. We also had no robes or slippers. I reported all this on the app and we had these delivered. The next day I looked at the app, and it said the shower drainage problem was resolved, so just assumed someone had looked at it while we were out and that the building may have a capacity drainage problem with lots of people showering at the same time. It was only on our last day that our maid noticed it and called reception straight away. It turned out that it shouldn’t have been like that at all and should have been dealt with properly when I first reported it. We also found that our bed, a king size, dipped on both sides and was quite uncomfortable and had definitely seen better days. This was all in block 4. We also saw cockroaches when packing up to go home. I would say the buffet food was average and have experienced far better buffets in European hotels. The steaks and pancakes cooked to order were amazing though. As for the speciality restaurants, I found Hunters steak house very good, the Italian had no pizzas and the Tex Mex sent out undercooked pink ribs twice. I found most of the staff amazing, tips aren’t expected, but are very much appreciated. Ps.. be prepared for lots of Ganga smoking, we witnessed it a LOT

    Chill Days at The Hideaway

The people, the vibes, and that gorgeous oceanfront—this place really had it all. The views from every angle were unreal. But what made it even better were the workers. I honestly loved bumping into anyone from the resort staff—everyone was so kind and welcoming. It was such a breath of fresh air. Dorrett, my sweet sweet butler (and now friend), was the icing on the cake. She felt like family away from home. Food and entertainment were solid too! If you’re looking for a spot to truly relax, with just enough adventure mixed in, The Hideaway is it. It’s slower-paced than Montego Bay, but just as peaceful and beautiful.
