When you enter the open-air lobby of this Victorian-style resort, you'll immediately feel the Jamaican breezes wash over you. Next, you'll encounter a sea of white, wicker chairs on the expansive porch (they're oh-so British), where you can sip a cocktail and soak in all the awesome of the lush grounds. Wander through the complex and you'll be wowed by the glistening pools and the cerulean waves of Runaway Bay. Grab a Red Stripe from the swim-up bar while your kids can descend into a splash frenzy at their own pool. Then you can all gather for some Jerk Chicken at the snack bar, where you can plot your next adventures: water sports, nightly shows, and more. When might we expect you?

Doesn't quite hit the mark!!
This was my second time visiting the island due to another FAIL from a previous trip but in Ocho at the Riu. We tried the Grand Bahia in the hopes of a much better experience however we will not be returning. We were not greeted with drinks as were other guests, the women staff were rude yet again to me, not my fiance, the only exception to that were Travis in restaurant bookings and Natrice the bartender in the evenings at the Sports Bar/Outside with live entertainment. Other than that, we were not impressed. The restaurant options were not pleasant with the exception of the Steakhouse on the Luxury side of the property, thanks to Travis because they wouldn't allow us to make the reservations. All in all, it was nice to get away however we will not be returning due to the lack of sleep we received from inhumane and rude guests constantly slamming their doors late at night and in the early morning hours to blatantly disrupt sleeping patrons. The disregard and disrespect from other guests was unruly. We appreciate being able to get away however we will go back to visiting other islands in the Caribbean and properties that cater to their guests.
Thanks
I took my 4 adult children ages 23 -28. My one daughter is a chef so I wanted her to experience an all inclusive. The resort had enough food variety to support all their taste buds. The resort itself is huge, so accommodating large groups is not a problem. In fact, I would suggest companies to consider this spot for a convention or just a company sponsored retreat. The only problem I had was the laundry service. I would recommend that they provide various washer and dryers in different sections for guests, because their service wasn't available (didn't respond).
Updating the fitness area I would suggest also. But other than that the pool is massive and the rooms are nice.
From the time of arrival on the property there were class distinctions evident. The Amstar Travel representatives made the distinction at the first stop that it was the Luxury Bahia. So when we were deposited outside of the plain Grand Bahia Principe, we and everyone on the bus going to other hotels to begin their vacation knew that we were not luxury guests. When our luggage was unloaded at the foot of the hotel stairs, there were 4 bellman standing at the top of the stairs talking among themselves. However, no one made an effort to come down the stairs to grab our bags. There was no welcome drink provided until I made a loud statement about "where is the welcome drink upon arrival?" We were placed in a dark room, where I had to take the lap shades off to get more light. The beds were smaller than any other hotel I have ever stayed in over 30+ years of travel. The carpet in the hallways of the floors where guests were located were dank, dirty, worn with holes and patched. In the middle of the night, the toilet started to back up. We called the front desk 5 times only to be asked on each new call the same information. We were told that a Manager would come and a Manager never did. We started to notice flying bugs in the room, without our having opened the terrace door. So the bugs were entering from another location. After going to the lobby and asking to speak to a Manager. A lovely Guest Services Manager Ms. Jones offered to spray the room but I declined due to upper respiratory concerns of my spouse. I asked for a different room and was given a another room that was free of flying bugs and had better light. The service in several locations was inconsiderate and sullen. People were at the pool bar attempting to get drinks and everyone was told "bar closed!" No attempt to service or direct you to a open bar. The pool was closed for 5 hours, no explanation given just staff blowing whistles at people who attempted to enter the pool. The beach was littered with garbage and had rocks. The bellman who reported to transport us out of our bug infested room did not greet us upon arrival, even though I said hello... He stood at the entrance of our room door talking on his cellphone. After a heated verbal exchange about the bags that he expected us to lift onto the cart in the hallway, we sent him away. The food was redundant and the selection was sparse. The WiFi was poor in the lobby, my daughter could not check school e-mail. The bathtub was left with dirt rings once the room was supposedly cleaned. We were a party of 3 but only towels for 2 were provided daily. What a freekin DISASTER this vacation was. I can't imagine that this is acceptable to your brand. Please send staff to anonymously evaluate this hotel because it is really bad! Had a great experience last year with Cheap Caribbean in Cancun but this trip makes me reconsider Cheap Caribbean moving forward. This hotel should be removed from consideration for your travelers and AmStar should consider what they say on the bus describing hotels. Additionally, they should stop asking for tips for bus drivers. Lastly, they should stop packing the bus like sardines because it was an uncomfortable ride and a terrible way to begin a vacation. Should have taken pictures...
The Lobby, Sports Bar, outdoor bars and pool areas were lovely and spacious. The dining options, quality of food, and interior hallways in the resort rooms were not up to par. My room, however was spacious and well thought out with a big terrace and gorgeous biew if the resort and sea. The beach was disappointingly small on the Grand Bahia side.
I had a lovely time and enjoyed myself but would try a smaller more upscale resort.

no. I enjoyed their local beer and especially rum. I even bought rum bottles from there.
nickshaw
I only saw people order Red Stripe and the give you Carib beer in your frig.
HaggleFree
The only beer that is included is red stripe local but not bad comes in reg and lite
billhas
No American beer at all at the resort. I am a beer drinker and was very disappointed that I could not have my Michelob. The only beer they serve there is Red Stripe beer and I did not care for it at all.
marnie
i dont remember seeing any bud. corona and heineken
Bigfine1966
they have cans of Presidente in the room frig and Red Stripe and more Red Stripe at the bars and eating areas, did not see a bud anywhere
buzzmonkey
No they only have Red Stripe beer
summervacation
I do not believe I saw American beers at the bars, but there is such a wide selection that you won't even notice! They do serve Red Stripe, the Jamaican beer. There is a huge variety of beverages, and you will not have to pay an extra fee for any drinks. The drinks/wine that are charged extra for are presented to you so you know before you order them.

No, buy a transport coupon through cheap carribean, or pay about 45 usa dollars per person.
Leslea
The resort does not provide this as a free service. Round-Trip Airport Transfers From MBJ is currently $42 per person for the shared service provided by JTL. This will include stops along the way. This price is subject to change.
KellyCC
No it is not free. I would recommend booking transport before you arrive. Usually best done when booking the trip itself.

No.
JamminBrit
You have to pay a little extra for the transportation. At least that was the case for me. I think it was about $20-30 extra a person. But it is good as the ride is part of your package and it is safe as opposed to getting a taxi or something and not knowing anything about the country you're in.
TonyPops
No, you can wait until you get there to book it at one of the many transportation desks, but I don't recommend it....book it ahead of time so you're not at their mercy for cost.
BossGirl
Not sure. We paid for personal transportation from the airport to the hotel. I would definitely recommend that. We had 4 couples and we wanted to go straight to the hotel. We were told that if we took the bus, it would stop at all hotel locations along the way........
marnie
No you have to pay for one of the shuttles. The best price is the one offered through cheap caribbean.

Is there good snorkeling right off the beach9 answers
7 years, 89 months ago
Jen
The resort is set upon a beautiful white sand beach and offers several beach activities daily including snorkeling. The water in front of the resort is great for snorkeling.
KristenCC
Yes. My friends all snorkeled when we were there.
marnie
would not say good if you have ever been anywhere good
buzzmonkey
Yes, you can sign out snorkeling equipment at the hotel dive shop, for about 1 1/2 hours daily at no charge. We managed to see a ray , a lion fish, and lots of other colourful fish i can't name, right off the beach.
maryanncee
No. The snorkeling off the beach is in very shallow water, and most of it is over grassy weeds. You need to be a good enough swimmer to duck the buoys and swim out past the grass to see any reef or fish, and again, it is shallow (no more than 2-3 of water above the reef).
To find good snorkeling, you have to walk to the far edge of the main beach (where the gate for the nude beach is); there is a swimming path that cuts through the reef you can follow off property. It opens up and leads you to deeper water, where you will see mostly shallow liverock formations and small fish. This is in an unsupervised area, so if you are not an experienced swimmer/snorkeler, don't do it.
Jamaica is not great for snorkeling right off the beach; Doctor's Beach in Montego Bay is decent, but Negril and Ocho are pretty poor. Grand Cayman, St. Thomas and St. John are very good for snorkeling right off the beach, as is Aruba (but it's mangrove, which is fun but different). I have heard Bonaire is the best in the Caribbean, but have never been.
Mello
yes- but most of coral is dead- still lots of life- many types of friendly fish might follow you- watch out for sea urchins!
Jandiangirl
yes the snorkeling off the beach isn't too bad and its included in your stay.
summervacation
Yes. Many people were snorkeling.
gtbaby
Yes! They offer one hour of free snorkeling per person, per day, and it is very worth it. You can take the snorkeling gear anywhere you want, but they do have an area roped off just for snorkelers rather than swimmers. There are many fish and plants in that area, and it is very cool to experience. I would say the snorkeling is very worth it- especially since it is free for each person for an hour each day! You do have to make a $50 deposit, but you get that back AS SOON as you turn your gear in at the end of the hour or before. This is so people don't just run off with the snorkeling gear.

For an additional cost you can get internet access to the rooms. Included in the price is 1 hour of internet per device per day. Meaning if you have a cell phone with wifi, you can connect to the internet for an hour. Or if you have an iPod you can connect to the internet for an hour. You must be in the main lobby to use the wifi, and have to use your hour all at once. You can get a wifi password and access to your room for an additional cost.

What is includd in minibar? Liquor?10 answers
6 years, 82 months ago
A.b.1234
Some resorts will include beer in their mini bars, but not all. Most often, they do not include bottles of liquor. We do offer resorts (specifically, the Riu chain) with this amenity and we ask that you call our reservations center at 1 800 915 2322 and speak to one of our Beach Experts.
LaurenCC
2 cans of cheap Caribe beer, one bottle each of water, coke, orange soda and some other soda. It is a joke.
Mello
Two beers, a large water, diet coke, sprite, coke, and orange soda. But there is a bar near by if you want liquor.
Renrut
mini bar has 2 cans of beer, pop and water. They replenish everyday.
Jandiangirl
In the minibar there is bottle water and Coca-Cola products. No liquor in the minibar in your room. However, there are so many bars on the resorts that you won't need the liquor in your room. You can bring drinks from downstairs to your room, or order liquor from room service which is included in certain room types.
Dezy
two small bottles (airline size) and two beers, but are replaced every day
harley05
They give you two beers once a day.
summervacation
sprite , coke, water and Carib beer.
gtbaby
2 Carib beers, Coke light, orange soda, sprite, & water. Its refilled every day.
For hard liquor you will need to visit one of the many bars.. located everywhere!
Lilylu
Literally anything you can think of is included in the bars and liquor selection. It said online that you would have to pay for more expensive liquor but that is pointed out and told to you before hand, so you won't ever get a surprise charge or fee. So many drinks to choose from, the bartenders are super friendly, and they have the most unique drinks I have ever had. The bars were one of my favorite parts of the trip because it was such a fun experience and wide selection!! Also, you may want to bring a travel mug or something because they do serve in 8oz cups. You can have as many drinks as you want, whenever you want, but it would be more handy to just have them fill up a larger cup instead of making several trips back to the bars.

How hard is it to make dinner reservations?8 answers
6 years, 81 months ago
Turning40
This varies based upon availability at the resort. We do advise that you make dinner reservation upon arrival to ensure you get to eat at the restaurants you want.
CaitlinCC
Very easy. Just go to one of the desks in the lobby and it takes all of 5 minutes
orstcowboy
When we checked in they didn't have reservations available for the first three nights that we were there.
summervacation
If you upgrade to the Don Pablo which I highly recommend then they make the reservations for you with no issue at all. Even changes were easy. Also with Don Pablo upgrade you can eat out every night if you want to which is a nice option since you eat buffet style for breakfast and lunch.
Suzzanne
Extremely hard. They will tell you they are all booked, and may give you one night of their choice, even though the restaraunts are empty. I was extremely disappointed.
PAtraveller
It isn't difficult to make reservations, but you may not always get the time you want. |t can be as early as 5:30 p.m. or as late as 9:00p.m.
BillyandJessie
It's very easy. Same day reservations can be made.
gtbaby
Not hard at all to get reservations. Make sure you book them as soon as possible when you get to the resort. They like to leave the restaurants at a reasonable capacity so it's more personal. Meaning the restaurant will not be full when you go to eat, but there will be no more reservation spots available. Also, after you make the reservations, go back and check daily to see if there are earlier/later times available, if you prefer. Some people may cancel, or they made decide they have more room somewhere. It's not a problem booking them at all. Remember that one of the restaurants does require men to wear long pants and close-toed shoes. The others require men to look very nice and have close-toed shoes, and the women should also dress very nice- dress, khaki pants, etc. This is because it's not the main buffet where anyone can wear anything. They want to make it more of an experience.
Also, the main buffet is awesome and there is a theme every night such as American, Spain, etc. There is literally over 100 dishes to choose from, and you will not leave hungry or disappointed. There's something there for everyone, no matter what type of food you prefer.

Do you have great entertainment there? Is the night club always busy?8 answers
6 years, 81 months ago
Elaine
The resort provides great nightly entertainment. This is a bit subjective however, as different people find different experiences entertaining. The night club is a very popular spot for guests to mingle. How busy it is will vary depending on the time of year, number of guests checked in at the hotel for your dates, special events, etc.
BILLCC
They have live bands on some nights and they have also have a disco... The two nights that I popped in there was a big crowd
nashirastar
The entertainment was terrible and nightlife was even worse the clubs are extremely small and not worth waiting around until 11pm when they open

CINDYK
YES. very family friendly but the night time options were adult and no complaints, we did not feel like we had to leave the site to enjoy ourselves.

The entertainment is great. There is always something different every night. There are games and stuff done throughout the day as well, if interested. At about 11 the entertainment moves from the main bar to a more private area, that way people can sleep. The noise was never a problem, and the entertainment was great.

Room option.7 answers
I recently purchase a room on line. I notice for the rm option it give you the option for rm type but, bed arrangement option is not there to choose. Double or Single. Is it necassarey to request that or does the bed seperate?
6 years, 81 months ago
Maryland
You may request your bedding preference by contacting us at 1-800-915-2322. The first available agent will be happy to note your request and inform the resort. Please be advised that hotel requests cannot be guaranteed, as they are based upon availability at the time of check-in.
BILLCC
Wouldn't hurt to request it- if it is a suite it is good to note the rooms have a couch which could double as a single bed. While you're at it, try to request ocean-veiw. Doesn't hurt to ask :) Worked for us!
Jandiangirl
Since you've booked it, call Cheap Caribbean and have them write on your hotel voucher what type of bed arrangements you want. Either a double or Single (King Bed). The Grand Bahia Principe will accomendate either.
Dezy
Yes, request double. I had a big issue, they didn't honor it. You can read my review nyqueens, should be posted
NYQueens
The rooms have either a king size bed or 2 double 4 poster beds -- really nice. Plus all rooms have a single couch that changes to a bed. We tried to put 4 in a room but max adults is 3. We got 2 rooms with 2 full beds. The rooms are really nice. We heard people talking about 2 bedroom suites but I don't know how you get that. You have to upgrade to the Don Pablo before you go because you get private check in and check out plus other things.
Suzzanne
If you get a king bed it does not seperate. Good luck getting a room change if its not right as customer service there is bad and they are less then friendly and helpful.
PAtraveller
You can always add a preference in the notes or comment section. Although it is not guaranteed, they will do their best to give you what you asked for, if available. Like I requested a king bed and got it.

What are the best excurtions to do?9 answers

This is difficult to answer as different people are interested in different activities. If you are interested in excitement, the ziplining and ATV excursions are sure to please. If you are looking for something more relaxing, a tour of the capital of Kingston or Negril Beach at Sunset may be more your speed.

The area directly behind the hotel is rocky, but the real beach is immediately west and is sandy and beautiful.
Wvfish
The beach directly in front of the hotel is quite rocky. However, they have an extended beach on the west end of the property that is lovely. Soft white sand, scattered palms, and a huge sand bottomed swimming area. Even has a "sunset point at the far west end, complete with bar and party at sunset. Absolutely lovely.
lookingtorelax
The beach is fantastic! Grand Bahia is a huge resort that has plenty of beach space including a nude beach. Some areas are a tad rocky, which is towards the front of the resort by the pool and restaurants. However, the main beach area with lounge chairs and umbrellas is not rocky at all.

I would suggest water shoes. The beach is fine but once you get close to knee deep it can be rocky in places.

Yes. Rocky and shallow. Many were snorkeling. I would definitely recommend beach shoes if you have them. It's a nice beach to sit and relax though.

Dress code may vary by resort. It gives general guidelines for men, but the best thing for you to do would be contact the resort directly. You can reach them via email directly at: info.jamaica@bahia-principe.com
As far as the reservations, and how easy it is to get them, that is dependant upon how busy the resort is. When you contact them about the dress code, I would give them the dates that you are traveling and ask them how busy they are during those times and if reserving dinner is usually an issue at that time of year. Thank you!
RobinCC
This hotel includes unlimited food and drinks, but some dining restrictions may apply. Please check with the front desk for details. The number of reservations at the a la carte restaurants depend on the length of your stay and the room type reserved. Some restaurants require a dress code for men such as long pants, no open toed shoes or sleeveless shirts.
CaitlinCC
Only Don Pablo restaurant - french - which we I found to be the best, requires dress up - which is long pants and not slippers. We made all the 3 reservations the second day of our stay and the options for the time slots were not very many but we could get all the 3 reservations for the stay. So I would say if you go in the early days to get your reservations you should be fine.
mihair
No they are not that dressy. They only require shirts with at least a half sleeve. Most people dress a tad upscale. No they are not hard to get into, you just need to make the reservation before 5pm of the day you want to attend it.
Dezy
no, every restaurant we went into have men and women coming in shorts
harley05
no, they are not that dressy.
Only one of the restaurants needs long pants for guys.
JackieNjenga
They are not too dressy as long as you aren't wearing a bathing suit or gym clothes you are fine. It is very hard to get reservations once you are there.
summervacation
Yes they are dressy. However there where a few people who would shoe up "nice casual" and they were not turned away. Reservations are not hard to get, but if you have a specific time in mind that time might be hard to reserve if you are using one of your free a la carte dinners included with your stay. If you are paying the time isn't even a problem. You must make your reservations in advance thought. The earlier reseved the more likeley you will be to get the time you want.
JMORGAN
All reservations require nice attire.
It's a little hard to get a reservation, so make them as soon as you arrive.
mrlove1s
All restaurants except the buffet require reservations . However there is no dress code for women. Closed toe shoes, shirts with sleeves and long pants are the dress code for men. For women, you can choose to dress up or be casual. The reservations are very easy to make. There is a desk set up in the lobby open from about 8am to 5 pm. It takes less than 5 minutes and same day reservations can be made.
gtbaby
can be dressy, but not a strict dresscode.
No, not hard to get a reservation at all.
If you join the club golden they will make the reservations for you.

No, the resturants aren't dressy. A nice sundress for women and pants or jeans with a polo, tshirt, or buotton down are fine. The only thing that is not allowed for men are tank tops.
We got the Jr. Suite upgrade package so our reservations were made for us in advance. One couple in our group did not have the updgraded package but was able to get reservations with us for the entire stay so I would say no it wasn't hard.

JDMD4U
No, but we returned again this year to the Gran Bahia and upgraded to a room in the Don Pablo Collection. We loved it. Our room had been recently renovated (huge) although our view was of the garden to the side and the main entrance was not the ocean. WE had a corner room. Never having has a butler before, we were very pleased with the service. This year we spent most of our stay by the pool. The pool is at the far end of the complex ..part of the DPC. We enjoyed the more tranquil atmosphere but we especially liked Rouel who is in charge of the bar by the pool. As part of the DPC, you have unlimited reservations at the 5 restaurants. We also liked the lounge (DPC) and had drinks and free internet before our suppers. I would highly recommend this hotel for its food, accommodations and beauty. We enjoyed all of the little extras as part of the DPC.

None of the restaurants required long pants as the website mentions. They do require shirts with at least a half sleeve, shorts are permittable. The beach buffet doesn't require any type of attire. The open restaurants that do not need reservations don't require upscale attire neither, just the shirts with half sleeves. The restaurants that you reserve aren't as picky neither, but most people dress a bit more formal.

Normally, reservations at the restaurants are made either at check in or the morning of that day. We do suggest checking directly with the resort upon check in.
MariaCC
No, you have to go to the front desk and make the reservation. It is very easy, we made reservations for the three nights on our first day. If you stay 7 days, you get the choice of 3 restaurants.
JackieNjenga
they say you can, we didn't, and didn't seem to have a problem getting into the specialty restuarants....French and steak house were the VERY best!!!!!!

They prefer you email your reservations to prexecutivebpjam@bahia-principe.com I emailed them 3 times and they still didn't have my reservations when we arrived,, but the lady making the reservations gave us 2 extra ala carte dining reservations to make up for losing my email, so that was nice. I don think so. But reservations are easy to make at the hotel. Depending on when you arrive you can make reservations right then. A special desk is set up in the lobby and they are open daily from 8am to about 5pm. Reservation can also be made the same day if there is availability.

This resort is safe for solo travelers. We do recommend taking the usual precautions when traveling in a foreign land though. Please be aware of your surroundings, keep your documents safe, dress appropriately, and use common sense.
BILLCC
Yes! This is an amazing resort for female travelers! This resort isn't specific to just families or couples, there is so much to do for all travelers. It is extremely safe, and so much FUN!
Dezy
we just arrived back (june 13) saw a lot of single woman
harley05
Yes, it is very safe here. My hubby skipped out on the club scene two nights and I went out al by myself. No problem! The guards even asked whether I needed to be escorted to my room.
JackieNjenga
Safety was never an issue at this resort. You can walk on the beach at night and security is always patrolling. Plus its a gated resort so its very difficult for outsiders to get even close to you.
JDMD4U
I am a female and I would strongly recommend. It is Definately safe for a female traveler. The security at this hotel is very good!
BlackRussian
strange that I see this question. I traveled with my son and hubby, but I noticed several ladies that seemed to be alone. the security at the Bahia is beyond great!! even at midnite there are security guards walking the beach and grounds. during the day you'll see them sitting under umbrellas or walking the beach and grounds. I walked by myself several times, NEVER felt scared!!!! was a wonderful resort!!!!
bammers
It would be safe for you, but I wouldn't pick it for other reasons. I'm single but saw very very few other singles.
PAtraveller
Very - I used to travel alone and I would go to this resort in a minute and I would feel safe letting any of my family visit - There were also a lot of wedding guests staying here who were alone - female and males
You would be safe here and have a great time - tours booked via the resort are also safe to do alone - just always remember to let someone somewhere know where you are planning to be and when - I used to leave a note in my resort room telling who, what and where if I had any doubt - I know I sound like your mother
highseas
Yes there's alot of security there and you will feel very comfortable there compared to the others in the area.

I just got back from traveling there solo. The hotel is safe. There is a gate around the hotel and anyone who enters from outside has to talk to security to get in. I passed by other hotels in the area and this one definitely seemed much safer.

The nightlife is OK. You might want to take a taxi to Ochos Rios. It will be around $80, but you'll get 3 hours at Margaritaville.
The disco on the resort is fun, but can be smelly and sweaty at times, but that's what you get when you are partying in Jamaica :). It opens at 11 pm. We liked the sports bar, but it can be a little quiet during the day.
The pool area will be really fun! They have shows at night and a karaoke bar too. The shows start at 10 pm and the karaoke bar opens at 11 pm.
mrlove1s
There's a club in the resort but me and my boyfriend didn't really like it. We took a cab to Ocho Rios and went to margaritaville. It was nice and they also have couple clubs there. The cab driver waits for you outside which is safe if you are traveling alone

Yes there is a club on site and the principe shopping area of the resort. It was bumpin till 2am. Your totally safe there. I wouldn't recommend going off the resort. Some of the locals recommend "shades" or "margaritta ville" those are Very wild places. The things you see there are SHOCKING lol. But NOOOO way i'd go there being two single ladies only... in fact i wouldn't go there without at least 15 resorters with you. Jamaica's safe and they do what they can to insure tourist are not messed with as this is there main source for income in that country but that doesn't mean you want to press your luck either.

Not very good - One night they did open a disco but it was so load you could not understand anything and we like load music.

As long as you stay on the resort you would be fine. It is 35 mins from Ocho Rios ($80 Cab ride) They do have a 'disco' at the entertainment complex but not sure how much fun it really is.

The night life is okay based on my experience. There is live music which ends around 10-10:15pm. They also have game shows. There is a nightclub but I can't comment or say how it is as I never entered. They were due to open at 11:00pm, but around 11:15 they were still not open so we left.

The all-inclusive price is for each person. When you book through Cheapcaribbean, be sure to indicate how many people are going and check the box to include airfare if you need that as well. What is the price for a shuttle from the airport to the hotel?6 answers
5 years, 69 months ago
JJ
The prices are as follows for transportation to and from the airport and resort: Private Transfers for 1 - 2 people: $112.50 per person, Private Transfers for 3 - 7 people: $212.50 per person, Shared Transfers: $42.00 per person. Please remember these prices are subject to change. Thank you!
LizCC
My advice...don't go to this hotel. The service is lousy
Kazi1955
If you get a shared shuttle (other people getting dropped off at other resorts will be on there too) it is about $40-$50 but that includes transportation both ways. Definitely worth it and the ride goes by quickly.
iowagirl11
We bought it but found out when we got there we shouldn't have. An amstar rep asked which resort we were going to, told us the bus number, and we boarded. Never looked for a transportation voucher
Ginge
$40 round trip. Takes an hour each way. Not bad and nice scenary.
Almir
We booked using Amstar, which was included as an "add on" when we booked through cheapcaribbean. We had no issues getting to the airport but, because of communication challenges in Jamaica, experienced a few issues trying to leave. Their representative on site at our hotel was also not particuarly helpful- I'd recommend researching a few other options. Ours cost 42 round trip- not bad!
vsp0625
The bus that picks you up from the airport to bring you to the resort is very underpowered, they could barely go up the hills without having to turn off the air conditioning, all the other buses where passing us and beeping at us. We waited about 30 minutes on the bus before we even left the airport and then the driver stopped at a “dive” for a 10 minute break, only to get back on the bus and be at our resort literally 3 minutes from the “dive” stop.
Missea
i did not book my transportation with cheap caribbean but went onlineand booked through jamaica tours.the cost was us$ 32.00 return.youcan try to book direct online as it works out cheaper.

What restrictions to the dining are there and how does that apply to the individual rooms?7 answers
Quoted from this post "This hotel includes unlimited food and drinks, but some dining restrictions may apply. Please check with the front desk for details. The number of reservations at the a la carte restaurants depend on the length of your stay and the room type reserved."

For the most up to date information on the resorts policies regarding dinner reservations, please contact the resort directly at 1 (888) 774 0040, as information is subject to change.
BethCC
Depending on your booking level (ie. Regular vs Don Pablo), you may only be allowed a certain number of reservations for specialty restaurants (ie. Italian, etc.). Everyone has unlimited access to the buffets during dining hours.
AdamS
You just have to have reservations for the restaurants, and need to dress nicely. For men I know one restaurant required long pants. Women can just wear a dress or something nice. I believe there was only one restaurant that required men to wear long pants and close-toed shoes. The restaurants and dining options don't have anything to do with the rooms at all. Everything is included in the one price you pay. You don't need to pay any extra for food or drinks once you're at the resort.
iowagirl11
There are 2 buffets. One family style and one for adults only. The adults only tends to be less crowded. There are 5 different A la carte restaurants for which you have to make reservations ahead of time.
Siisiibelle
You get one dinner in a fine dine restaurant (a la carte menu) per 2 nights booked. If you book a 5 night stay, you get 2 dinners, for 6 nights, you get 3 dinners. You do need to make reservations, it would be wise to do this as soon as you check in.
JamaicanMeSmile
You can eat from the buffet daily. But they have 5 restaurants on site that you can choose to eat at. Depending on the amount of days you stay they give you a certain amount of dinner options at these restaurants. If you want to eat at the buffet daily and dont want to eat at restaurants then you can do so. For a 4 night stay you can eat at the restaurants 2x. For a 7 night stay I think its 4 dinner restaurant options.
adanger
You are limited to two dinning options , so you must make reservations as soon as you arrive.
MsParker
you have to make reservations, but for VIP member it is open,, they are going to try to sell you a 25 grand membership which included all that without membership it is boring

This is NOT a very “Family Friendly” resort! They cater more to adults, than families and kids. There are also A LOT of stairs and not nearly enough ramps for people with strollers, wheel chairs and luggage.

Yes, once you pick your vacation on here it will bring you to a page for "extras" like transportation and excursions before it brings you to the check-out page. I believe it was like $40 each person round trip. I recommend getting it because the airport is about an hour away from this resort.

I believe this tour is $60-80 I am not 100% Sure how far it is BUT HEARD IT WAS AMAZING!!!!!!
Ruewdy
Yes, it is!! Lots of excursions are available, and if you want to go somewhere that's not offered, there are plenty of people who are willing to guide you for a day in their own vehicles. The Marley resting place is in the village of Nine Mile. It's best if you take a guide there due to the relentless souvenir "pushers". A guide will help fend them off for you. Can't help you with the cost. I would guess about $80-$100 per person though. We rented a car very cheap for our stay and enjoyed the freedom to come and go as we pleased. I recommend it to anyone, just watch for the potholes off the main northshore highway.
CFletcher
yes it is
Janhar
Yes it is available from the resort. Ride up to Nine Mile takes about and hour through the mountains on some fairly rough roads. We didn't take one of those group trips on a bus. Instead, we hired a private car/guide and it was phenomenal experience. Tell the concierge you want Omar with Mello Tours. We paid $250 USD (three people in our party) and went to Nine Mile (Marley's mausoleum) and then after, to the Blue Hole. Omar was a fantastic guy and seemed to know everyone. Took us through Brown's Town and then through Fern Gully to the Blue Hole. Highly recommend. You can contact him on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/codneromar08

The majority of those can be booked through Cheapcaribbean. After room category is selected, you will see a list of options for add ons (excursions, transfers, donations, etc). Please call 800-915-2322 for additional assistance.
CCGreg
All these excursions are available outside of the resort. There is a travel office that you should visit right away when you arrive since some excursions are only offered at certain times or days of the week. You pay them up front and they will call and get you scheduled
honeymooner30
The hotel has anything you need as far as excursions go. There is a place called Chakkah (sp??) that has all of that. It is about 45 minutes away heading east.
Emptynesters834
Our only excursion was to the Blue Hole which was amazingly beautiful and of fun!
JHDT
The resort has a desk set up for all of this and then if you booked through a internet travel agent, they have a special room and they assist with all of your needs. We went on the Chukka horseback riding/swim. It was the neatest thing we have ever done (even beats swimming with the dolphins). You go on a land tour and then they take you into the water, not ankle level...no...they take you RUNNING into the water (hold on tight). Our horses even swam for about 5 seconds! It was an amazing adventure. I wish I would have brought more cash for tipping because the guides were so nice, accommodating and fun! Sounds like you want to do a lot of things, just keep in mind that you might be sore after riding the horses (we were for 2 days) so plan accordingly.

You will have to check with the resort on what is closest to the beach but I think you will have to do a bit of walking to get to the beach wherever you stay. It is not a terrible walk by any means but they don't have oceanfront rooms you can just walk out of your room onto the beach.

MARYLAND20708USA
I am not sure what the advantages are because I did not see the different rooms but we got the cheapest room and it was amazing. 2 poster beds, a living area, large balcony, huge bathroom, very large closet. It was a very very very nice room!
TotesFun
You can get day passes to the Adults only side for $14 a day. You'll get better food, top shelf liquor, and access to adults only pools and bars. Highly recommend if your staying on the family side.
PRRichieRich
You should be able to upgrade at the resort, but one thing I did notice when I went is that when I booked I put a special request for the resort under the booking and when i got there they upgraded our room without any fees. If you call them or enter a request i'm sure you guys would be able to upgrade the room.
The advantages are just room size.

hi what the different from luxury bahia principle resort and grand bahia principle resort
3 years, 45 months ago
nye
Both resorts are great and part of the Bahia Principe chain. The main difference is that the Luxury Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Don Pablo Collection is going to have a higher level of service. For example,
guests staying in the Luxury Bahia Principe Luxury Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Don Pablo Collection have sister privileges with the Grand Bahia Principe Jamaica and may utilize their facilities while guests staying the Grand Bahia may not utilize the facilities of the Luxury Bahia. There are many differences small and large, so for further details, please feel free to contact us at 1-800-915-2322.
JeannieCC
Just got back and the "Luxury" is more expensive, seems to be adults only, and hopefully has better food. But the amenities are similar - I would avoid this resort.
TidaphoneT
The luxury its adult only and they have reserved chairs in the pool but not worth to pay more money to go to that side because the fun its more are the regular side
lovecaribe
luxury one is for people who bought a membership to their vacation club. There are reps on site to offer you that memebrship when you are there but f you havent already bought a memebership you don't have the option to stay on the luxury side.
Janhar
The luxury part and no kids are allowed and you can go to grand but they can't come there
Tooshay
the price...rooms are about the same size and have the same furniture basically...all rooms have balcony
Jordan8920
A major difference. The luxury has better amenities and dinning options. Also luxury isn't an option for families with kids.
MsParker
Grand is the family side, Luxury is adults only. The beach and activities are shared between the sides but the Luxury side has it's own section of pool and a couple different restaurants exclusive to them i believe.

restaurant reservations5 answers
Can we book our restaurant reservations in advice through our hotel online? If so how do we go about this?
3 years, 43 months ago
Montego Bay
We are unable to book your restaurant reservations prior to travel. This is something you would have to do while you are at the resort with the concierge.
JeannieCC
I am not sure. I think you have to go there first but find out from Cheap Caribbean.
epicurean
I do not know. But the food was good in all restaurants. Loved the Italian and the Japanese especially.
epicurean
All restaurants are not available to all guest
bama54
Not sure about that but how it worked for us is that when we arrived and checked in, we were told to come back at 3:00 and go to the desk that handles reservations or you could do it online at that time as well. We went to the desk and got our reservations for the entire stay. It was a painless process.
TotesFun
I do not think so. I just know as soon as you get to the resort you should make all of your reservations, they get booked quickly.
Pinkgoldd
I was staying for 2 weeks in this resort and couldn't get all restaurants.
Reservation on line mostly showed only 5:30pm or 9pm sitting.
Same thing with Public Relations representative.

Is it worth getting the Club Gold package?5 answers
3 years, 43 months ago
Vish
With Club Golden Package comes with additional amenities such as a welcome reception and tropical drink, towels beach and pool in the room upon arrival as well as coffee service in your room. There's also bathrobe and slippers in the room and mini-bar with daily replenishment. So Club Golden does come with plenty of great additional amenities to make your stay just that much more special.
JeannieCC
No, high pressure salesmen
bama54
nope.
Pinkgoldd
No - rooms are average, same kitchen for all restaurants, isolated small place on a beach for members and nothing special in a pool area.
StefaniaCz
Not really! I think the premium alcohol is included and there is a bar in the center of the beach. There is also a lounge in the main hotel area that has AC. But, your paying for an all inclusive trip you would hope the amenities don't need to be upgraded to get a good drink and AC.

What is the resort policy on tipping?5 answers
3 years, 41 months ago
Dallas
While tipping is certainly appreciated and allowed, it is by no means required.
JeannieCC
No real policy. You tip for good service. We tipped because the workers are great and they need the tips.
Lstephenson5
We tipped but it is not necessary. I feel that they work hard and if you were at a bar you would tip so we had no issue with tipping. Plus we were thinking if we find the fun bartender and tip, we will get better drinks and I guess I cannot tell you if we got better drinks because we tipped or not but boy our drinks were certainly strong enough!! Haha, my daughter even asked if hers could have a little less alcohol in it and the bartender chuckled at her...I don't think she got less because she had to go take a nap after that drink...lol!
Oh and another thing, once you arrive, the bellhops grab your bags and take them into a room until your room is ready. They are looking for a tip. Then when your room is ready, a bellboy will escort you and your bags to your room and he is looking for a tip.
You will definitely want to tip the chef at the Japanese Habatchi. That is an amazing experience and well worth a tip. We didn't tip at the buffet though.
Shuttle drivers to and from the airport or excursions want a tip and you feel grateful to give them a tip for getting you there safely...their driving style is a little different than I am used to....They also give you so much info regarding the culture. Ask questions and they will answer.
If you go on excursions you will want to tip them as well. I recommend going on the Chukka horseback riding adventure. it is like nothing you have ever experienced. You ride on land for 45min - 1hr and then you spend about 20 mins in the water. It is crazy and it is fun!! Once in a lifetime experience so you will want to tip the guides, they are also so very nice and fun!!
We go to the bank and get $50 worth of $1, $5 and $10.
TotesFun
You don't have to but give these staff members a buck or two trust me you will feel great after you see how most people live there.
Jaisupra
Tipping is not required. However, it is highly recommended since the people waiting on you live off their tips. A little something is better than nothing.

Please check with the resort directly as they may not be able to for sanitary reasons. If you have any further questions, you may contact the resort directly or call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.
TimCC
Yes
Lmelo
OH YES THEY WILL!! We bring our own Bubba cups when we go to resorts. You can buy them there as well but I bet they are pricey. If you don't have your own cup you will get a small plastic cup and in the hot sun your drinks will melt or warm up quickly (but then again, the cups are so small you probably won't have a hard time drinking before it gets warm or melts. lol). I strongly suggest bringing your own Bubba cup and you can spend more time relaxing rather than making several trips back and forth to the bar.
TotesFun
Yes, they will fill your mug with alcohol drinks

Seems as they did. We saw people with insulated mugs. I'd say take it if they don't you can always just pour it in yours.

Does Luxury and Grand have the same pool? Is the large pool for everyone?
3 years, 38 months ago
maryland
Yes they share pools but supposedly there is a specific section just for adults who book on the Luxury side.
CCGreg
if you buy a 25 grand membership you will enjoy everything if you don't,, , save the headache don't go there
MARYLAND20708USA
I don't know if it is the same pool, but it is definitely big enough. It wraps around the entire front of the resort
Summergrl
I did not take a tour of the Luxury side but I am thinking that it is one very large pool. But it is a long walk over there and we never even thought about venturing over there. I would assume that you would not be able to enter the Luxury section of the pool if you were not staying over there. All the fun stuff happens at the middle section of the Grand pool. This is where everyone flocks to. On the Grand side the pool is kind of segregated even though it is one big pool. There was the kid area, then the volleyball area, then the bar area, then the fun area, then the more quite area (never went over there) and then if you keep going I think you would run into the Luxury area. There is quite a walk between the Luxury side and the Grand side and I think they offer shuttles back and forth.
TotesFun
It's one very large pool but it has many divides in it and the luxury side is very separate from the grand side and security is in place to ensure no cross over. People will accidentally switch side and if that happens security will be very polite in redirecting them.

The beach was fantastic!
AdventureAwaits
The beach was spectacular! But it wasn't a beach like you normally think of because it is not long and endless and it was not jam packed. It is more of a tranquil area. They have several man made umbrellas they were made out of I believe coconut tress, they were very nice! We spend an entire day down there, it is very peaceful. You walk down to the beach and you are kind of in a cove or a bay area. It is very sandy so I am not sure where some of the reviews said it was rocky. The swim area was not huge but certainly big enough. It seemed to be a great area for snorkeling and several people were. We do have pics of it but I am not computer savvy and don't know how to download them to the computer. lol. I think it is a great selling point for the resort!
TotesFun
Not the best picture but the beach is pretty.
Kris04
The beaches are absolutely beautiful! The problem is the HOT rooms! Choose another resort!!!

What liquor is included in the all inclusive and is the any other beer options other than red strip available5 answers
2 years, 34 months ago
Nashville TN
Mostly local brands like Appleton for the liquor. Beer would be Red Stripe and Red Stripe. You'll be lucky to find imported (American/European brand) beer.
CCGreg
No top shelf is included in the Grand Bahia, run and vodka, red and white wines, and Red stripe. Luxury has the top shelf alcoholic drinks
4easy
ONLY very basic cheap local liquor and I am pretty convinced it is watered down. Not worth it.
AngelBaby
No other beer. Top shelf liquor is not included. Drinks were not the best.
LuvtheBeach1234
Not sure of all of the alcohol offerings as we were not picky, just find a fun bartender and tip regularly and you will certainly feel the effects!! Red Stripe was the only beer but boy was it refreshing on a hot day (which was everyday, lol)!!

There are lots of shuttles at the resort that will pretty much take you anywhere on the island. My friends and I went to Negril which isn3 hours from the resort.

Toronto, there is a new highway and its basically a straight road its approximately 45 mins to get to Kingston. I'm not sure about the shuttle buses you may have to take a cab.

2 years, 33 months ago

They don't have trams necessarily, but they do have transportation around the complex.
JeannieCC
We saw long golf cart things carting people to the beach. I think this is on the luxury side of the resort.
Poepoe
If you are staying in the Luxury portion I believe they do have large golf carts to shuttle you back and forth. If you are on the Grand portion, the walk isn't bad at all . There were no transportation within the resort itself.
TotesFun
No, there are no trams. Everything is walkable.
WorldTraveler94
I saw people riding in golf carts but didn't know where they got the ride from but it was very unnecessary because everything is very close and centralized. If you want to leave the resort they offer car rentals and taxi service but it's pricey.
