You're the traveler that's looking for an experience - that road less traveled. A retreat where your co-workers might even be a little envious (please, bragging is perfectly acceptable - you worked hard for this!) The stylish elegance you'll discover at Viva Wyndham V Samana will make others a wee bit jealous, but it's going to make you one happy vacationer. Plus, nestled into Dominican's still hidden gem, Las Terrenas - once a small fishing village, now as cosmopolitan as any major city, but with tons of charm. Check out local markets (make sure to take home an authentic Samana souvenir), fun cafes and bars - there's so much to discover along these stunning ocean shores.

Beautiful place. Unpleasant experience
My husband and I visited for our birthdays from 6/29-7/2. The RESORT is breathtaking and the views are amazing. It is very clean and if you are looking to do nothing but relax, then this is a quiet and nice resort.
The SERVICE is horrible! The FOOD was unpleasant. The people who work there do not speak English which was not a problem because I do speak Spanish but just not fluent. I guess if your Spanish is not good enough, they do not think you should be treated with respect. Coming to DR you would think the food would be authentic. No, they served more burgers and pizza than anything. Their one seafood restaurant was decent but the whole menu was in Spanish so it was a little difficult to order and no one understood enough to help us, like I said I am not fluent. The room service food was limited to two kinds of sandwiches that were premade on hard bread. Worst thing I have ever tasted.
On my birthday, my husband booked a massage on the beach for me. Long story short, it was supposed to start at 9:30AM and we did not start until 10:15AM. I was waiting on the beach the entire time because of their lack of communication. Nor did we get any kind of apology for the inconvenience.
The excursions were not too impressive so we figured we would take full advantage of the resorts activities. Their activities were completely unorganized. They had a schedule up in the lobby with no location, so we had to guess where each one would take place. Then, when we would get there, there were no activities taking place. We did ONE activity the entire time! Such a beautiful beach and resort going to waste because of the lack of customer service.
I will say we were looking for something to relax without kids so if you can get past the rude people and mediocre food…..this is the place to be!
The hotel was nice and the front desk personnel were attentive and helpful. The housekeeping side of things was just the opposite. Overall housekeeping services and request was the kicker. They come into your room at 8/9am even though the do not disturb light was on. When you call with a request, it would take hours to respond. I had to go to the front desk to get the wash clothes I called and requested two hours prior. The food was not very good when compared to other all inclusive resorts in the Caribbean. The only place to get a drink during the day is at the beach. During a rainstorm, there is no where to lounge and have a drink while waiting for it to pass. The overall setup of the property and convenience definitely needs some work. We won’t be returning.

BEST VACATION EVER!
I loved my experience with CheapCaribbean.com. We just returned from 5 nights at the Viva V Samana resort. I wish we booked a longer stay there. We flew into Santo Domingo and rented a car, drove 2 hours on very sketchy roads to arrive at the resort and we didn't leave the resort until it was time to fly back home. I had wanted to explore the local town of Samana, but we were simply too relaxed at the resort. We stood in the Bungalow room, it is only 3 months old. We had our own patio area with rocking chairs, lounge chairs, and our own swimming pool. The shower in the room was AMAZING! The room had a mini bar that was refilled daily (we discovered that if you leave the maid a daily tip, they will properly refill your bar with fresh coffees, beer, and sodas). The beach at the resort is gorgeous with clean turquoise water. The sand was clean and the beds on the beach were fantastic. If you want a beach bed, you need to get out there at around 6 AM to claim one. My husband would put 2 towels and some personal belongings on a bed, then the housekeeping staff would change the sheets for us. The pool beds are usually available until the pool opens at 8 AM. If you don't care about having a fancy bed in the pool or beach, then you can sleep in. There are plenty of beach chairs for everyone. The beach bar is fantastic located right next to the beach and pool. If the bar is slow, the servers will go around to you and take your order right from the comfort of your beach/pool bed. The food at the resort was delicious. I personally preferred eating at The Marche, their main dining area. The Marche was a buffet that served everything, including yummy Dominican food and desserts. We also ate at Fusion and Mar y Fuego and had great meals at both. The resort staff was exceptional! We loved our butler from the Bungalows, Marcos. We also loved the server Yocairys from the beach bar. Deter and Francis from The Marche were also fantastic and made us feel at home. The only annoying staff were the guys from the cigar shop, they were pushy and it got annoying. They pressured us into buying cigars before we even checked into our room, then daily tried to get us to purchase more. This is not a party resort. The average guest age is between 30-60. This is a resort for people who want to unwind, relax, eat, drink and enjoy the scenery. This is seriously the most beautiful place that I have ever been. The trees, plants, and flowers all around the property are breathtaking. I can't wait to return!
The travel on spirit airlines is always an adventure. Once landed in the Dominican everything was great. The people were very friendly and the location is beautiful. I Purchased a package which included a minibar in the price. They never restocked the minibar and when I asked about it with guest services they informed me it is only stocked for check in and will not be restocked. I wanted to spend my time relaxing with drinks by my own private plunge pool with drinks. But could not. The rest of the facility was great. Good food, beautiful pools and beach. They contract out the excursions and those companies delivered far and above what I expected. Overall a fun trip.

Is horseback riding on the beach available?2 answers
2 years, 33 months ago
Generally this is something that is usually available. Unfortunately this is not something we can book for you, you would have to inquire either with an excursion company or the resort directly for details.
Not there. We did a waterfall horseback ride excursion and it was $55 per person and well worth it. I'm sure you can find a beach ride somewhere. I didn't see one listed.

What if anything is there to do at night, is there any entertainment? What about off resort bars? shop? How far are they from the resort t. How far are you from the airport?
2 years, 28 months ago
For nightlife, they do have the Hip Lounge open until 1am (hours are subject to change). They also have music and dancing at the beachside bar. This resort is approximately 10 minutes from the town (where you would find any shopping), 20 minutes from Samana's El Catey International Airport and 1.5 hours from Las Americas International Airport in Santo Domingo
The resort has live entertainment every night a bar by the beach open until 10 and then a bar/club with music open from 11pm-1am. You can go to down town las terranas and go to local bars and clubs about 20 minutes away. The ride from SDQ airport to the resort is 2 hours
There is a bar with a DJ, but if you are looking for nightlife this not the place. They are not near any night life either
You are 2 hours from Santa Domingo Airport. There is one closer, but it does not appear any US carriers land there yet.
Best transportation from Santo Domingo Airport?4 answers
I booked my trip to Viva Wyndham V Samana on CheapCaribbean.com. I wish we'd known it was a 2 hour drive from Santo Domingo Airport. What's the best way there? Taxi, bus? If you've been and have an opinion please let me know.
2 years, 28 months ago
You may add transportation to your reservation. Please contact an agent at 1-800-915-2322 for a quote
The best thing is taxi, I used Dominican airport transfer and paid about 180 usd. Any taxi from SDQ to Samana is going to cost you about that much and the sooner you look up prices the cheaper you might be able to find. Also make sure you review any taxi service you find on like a site like trip advisor some are scams. If the price sounds too good to be true it is. Also depending on what time you are arriving I wouldn't try to get a taxi when I get there. SDQ airport can be overwhelming with people looking for cabs and you could get ripped off or worse. I would always recommend to have your verified taxi service waiting for you when you arrive even if you have to pay extra. It makes the trip much easier
we used the transportation from Cheap Caribbean but we were able to split the cost with another couple.
Book a private transfer through Cheap Caribbean. DO NOT use taxi services from the airport
Is there additional charge for room service?5 answers

The resort may have a delivery charge for room service, please check with the resort directly. If you have any further questions, you may contact the resort directly or call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.
No. Most people tip the wait staff for delivery. (The room service food wasn't impressive, FYI)
No room service is included
No, there’s a time base menu from 7am-11am; 11am-11pm and 11pm- 7am
It’s awful room service so FYI
That depends on the resort. I was at the Wyndam V Samana and it was included in the package. So just had to tip.
How do i select the Vibe Room when checking out?2 answers
I am trying to check out and would like to select the Vibe room. I am not sure how to make that section. Can you help?
2 years, 25 months ago
When booking a hotel and flight package, this would be available after selecting flights. When booking hotel only, this would be available after selecting your dates. However, if the Vibe room category is not available on the "room" selection screen, this room category may not be available for your dates of travel. For any further assistance, please call in to 800-915-2322 to speak with one of our beach experts.
It's under the "choose your room" options on Cheap Caribbean
hi, is there any other ways of transporting from the airport to the resort?? because $259 is extremely expensive for that. also how far is your resort from the nearest Airport?
2 years, 24 months ago
On the North East coast of Dominican Republic in Las Terrenas - Samana, approximately 10 minutes from the town, 20 minutes from Samana's El Catey International Airport and 1.5 hours from Las Americas International Airport in Santo Domingo. We do offer airport transportation through a contracted transfer company at an additional cost. If you have any further questions or need help booking, please call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.
It was a 2.5 hour drive from Santo Dimingo. $250 covers a 5 hour cab ride in a comfortable A/C van. If you fly in closer the ride will be cheaper.
If you are coming into Sana Domingo airport it is a 2 hour ride to the resort
I would take the shuttle if you won’t be traveling within the country. I rented an suv for $175 online but had to pay for local taxes and insurance when I got there, which was $250 extra, plus gas. I had the option to drive around but not worth it if you’re staying in the area. Local taxes are 18% by the way, keep it mind
Hope it helps
Trips too and from are brutal. My trip in was at night and white knuckled the whole way. Motorcycles with no lights and windy back roads. Trip back was much better, daylight and nice improved roads. there are large tour busses, but i cant imagine taking one on the road in.
