Bad Management Not a all inclusive
The personal in the hotel is exceptional . But if you book a tree night stay be ready to eat in the buffet 2 of the 3 nights. The food its ok but not for a all inclusive. Not air conditioning in any of the facilities in the hotel only on the rooms and verily working. I will not go back.
I would definitely would go back to this resort although it needs some upgrades ... words can describe the experience that you get to live here. Every night they have different events that are very entertaining and fun the guys from the entertainment are awesome Lewis is very funny he has a funny laugh lol. Food was okay breakfast was the most exiting thing really lunch amd dinner was almost the same every day although they try to bring new plates it felt like it was the same... in order to eat in one of the restaurants you had to make a reservation we had to reservations one for the intalian and one for el pescador it was a seafood restaurant. We when to the italian one food was not as expected i didnt eat it, it looked and takes horrible so after we left i went to the buffet to eat w”e was there. The resort it self is beyond gorgeous the view is amazing the view from the room was amazing, but the room itself needs some upgrades the decorations feels like it was straight from the 90s i feel like for a 5 start resort it would of been much much better THEY NEED TO UPGRADE THE ROOMS, also the showers needs some work it was beautiful but it was kind of hard to take a shower it out water coming out of it, however those where the only issue i had with my 7 days stay there the room it self, but other than that everything was amazing the entertainment the music it was really fun.
So glad we chose this wonderful resort! Not the typical beach hotel - situated on a lush tropical cliff overlooking bay and out to the ocean. From our room's balcony, the view of the harbor and quaint town of Samana climbing the hillside seemed like it could be a view along the Mediterranean, but with palm trees. Views from the beautiful pool made it hard to look away!
Fantastic service from all staff. Many spoke English well but it was helpful to be able to speak some Spanish, too. Our room was spacious and spotless, with a balcony patio where we watched the sunrise over the ocean and the lights from the town at night.
Hotel staff was very helpful with all our requests, including arranging dinner reservations and transportation to local sights.
The all inclusive package from Cheap Caribbean made the whole trip stress free from planning to travel to return. Very glad we chose the transportation from Santo Domingo airport. The trip across the island to the resort was as informative as booking a tour excursion.
We chose this location in part to see the humpback whales who migrate to the Samana Bay every winter. Definitely take the tour with Whale Samana, run by biologist Kim Bedall. Very professional and the best experience and value.
All in all this was a very clean and friendly place. Our biggest complaint was that the website says it had catamarans and kayaks. They had no sailboats at all and only 1 kayak that they didn't take reservations for, they told you to run when you saw it. They also don't wash the life jackets, they tell you you have to wear a tee shirt, so when you are running to get the kayak don't forget your shirt. The bar tenders are very slow, nice enough but slow. They do had servers that will bring you a drink to your table and are faster then the bar tenders even with only 4 or so people at the bar. There are shuttles and elevators to get around but if you like to walk there are lots of stairs and really pretty walkways. The food was good and enough choices. The entertainers are the best people, fun and friendly. The rooms were clean and comfortable enough. The resort itself has great views. The beach is small but enough room. When the wind blows from town sometimes there are plastic bttle tops or bags go by but nothing gross in the water like some of the other reviews said, Wasn't bad a all. Shuttles to town which is fun, The transfer back to the airport got us there 4.5 hours early which really was upsetting. We had a 4:30 flight and they made us leave at 10. The airline didn't even open till 2 and we were alone in the car so it wasn't like we had to pick people up for other flights. That was very disappointing, I you don't care about water-sports s;ow bartenders and waiting at the airport all day. The pace was worth the money.

Are there any alternatives to taking a 200 dollar taxi?
Are the roads safe, easy to drive on if we decide to get a rental car from the airport?

New York
We strongly recommend arranging your transportation prior to travel and not renting a car in the Dominican Republic.
LaurenCC
They have a new road from SDQ to Samana that takes about 2 hours and 25 minutes. Couple of Tolls but its definitely worth it with the scenery.
MasterK
I saw plenty of rental places outside of the airport. I would not recommend this unless you speak/read fluent Spanish. Also, we passed several tolls along the way. I speak 0 Spanish so it was no brainer for me. It was described to me from another previous traveler as the way people drive in New York. I see tat your from there but since I've never been I'm not sure about that comparison. Their roads were similar to ours other than they don't really follow the passing lines. It seemed as though we were riding in the middle of the rd the whole time. A lot of motorcycles (as that is their main mode of transportation) and they are all over the rd.
AliciaNacole
We thought about doing that also to avoid the cost of a shuttle. Absolutely DONT drive! The roads are quite scary with minimal markings or signs, no one follows the speed limits, we encountered multiple small towns with parties and people in the roadway, tolls, etc. We said multiple times to eachother "thank goodness we didn't drive!!!!" I would stay far far away from driving there. We found the cheapest shuttle by calling the hotel and using their service, coming2, it was $357 total for 2 people as a private shuttle (it was even less if you did a shared, I think 337.

We strongly recommend working with our transfer company while you are in the Dominican Republic.

Car rental is better and you're not stuck in the resort. Because every time you take a taxi it adds up
MasterK
If you speak Spanish you might be able to find one. I found the cost of the ride worth the money!
AliciaNacole
It's well worth the $389. roundtrip for the shuttle. Also it's a flat rate for up to 5 travelers. dominicanshuttles.com

This resort is approx. 90 minutes from the Santo Domingo Airport. Transfers are available when booking through CheapCaribbean.com.
BethCC
About 2 hours and 15 minutes. I purchased a roundtrip shuttle from dominicanshuttles.com for $389 before leaving home. It was definitely worth it, I would NOT recommend renting a car and trying to find your way to the resort. There are no traffic laws and they drive crazy!!!
