Improvements needed
On arrival checked in which was slow given key card and told to scan back to get map and menu of activities restaurants. Nobody told us to go to WiFi and click hotel to log on. Reception pointed way to room which took us 15 minutes to find. Directions could be clearer. ROOM Our room smelt a little musty which cleared by next morning, the rooms are spacious and modern with plenty of storage space. FOOD Could be hotter like a lot of buffet restaurants couple of microwaves would help. Food was quite repetitive. Al A Carte Quite a lot says to book on the app don’t bother not fit for purpose go to concierge to book these. Standard of the food Varies. STAFF We met some lovely staff however most were miserable and unhelpful, unless you were stood at bar with a dollar you can wait 30 minutes to get served. POOL and grounds Quiet pool over 7 foot deep was cleaned few missing tiles. Main pool Very loud. Never had a problem with getting a sunbed. The grounds are very well maintained. HOWEVER they should do more regular spraying the mosquitoes are horrendous I was bitten 80+ times in 2 weeks. BEACH Always plenty of beds available but seaweed along it all 2 foot high more should be done to clear this. The food bar on beach nothing covered and birds helping theirselves to food and pooing in the pots not hygienic. Long queues for drinks. Staff of note for us was Joanna in buffet for breakfast. JOSE in pool buffet. Entertainment PIkachu and Spice.were great. We did have some issues no hot water in basin in room for 3 days and had 4 different engineers out before we could use safe properly. We also had a rat get in our room one night. It’s a huge resort so this can happen staff dealt with this promptly. Our thanks to GUSTAVO LORA duty manager who looked after us with a massage and beach meal of lobster to apologise for the issues.

⭐ 1/5 – Extremely Disappointing Stay for All Three Families We traveled to Grand Sirenis Punta Cana Resort & Aqua Games with three families (six adults and six children), and our experience was extremely disappointing. The food was terrible, with very few choices and questionable quality. Because of this, four adults became sick with stomach issues and diarrhea for four days, which completely ruined our vacation. The rooms were in unacceptable condition. The sheets were old and discolored, looking gray-brown instead of white. The bathroom was full of mold, and the whole room felt neglected and dirty, with spiderwebs in multiple areas. It was not sanitary at all, especially for families with kids. The pool was also poorly maintained, with algae growing all over, making it unsafe and unappealing to swim in. What made this even more frustrating is that the reviews we saw on TripAdvisor felt very misleading compared to the reality we experienced. Our stay looked nothing like what the previous reviews described. Overall, this was one of the worst vacation stays we’ve experienced, and we cannot recommend this resort. Cleanliness, safety, and basic maintenance were all severely lacking.

Illness
The resort is lovely and so were the staff. However there is a fair few things that are disappointing… if I had the chance to book again I wouldn’t have booked here because of the following: Hygine and food practices are appalling and my partner become severely unwell for 6 days of the holiday with diarrhoea. Luckily my children didn’t come down with anything. Cross contamination and staff using tap water to clean appliances and cups. The shop is £13 for a small pack of M&Ms. Ridiculous and really poor of them to essentially rob off their own customers. Mini disco for the children is terrible. The lady running this does not need to scream down the microphone I have never hear noise like it. Same for all entertainment day and night unbearably loud and I’m not the type of person that doesn’t enjoy a bit of music! Seriously the volume doesn’t need to be like this! Food was okay but not great. Beach beautiful.

Not my Favourite Resort
The Good: The rooms were nicely renovated, and mostly clean. The beach wasn’t very crowded, and the pools were clean. The resort grounds were mostly kept up. The food was average. The Bad: The sargassum on the beach was the worst we’ve ever seen. 3ft high piles reaching 10ft from the water’s edge, covering as far as your eye could see. Guests and children had to climb over mountains of trash-filled seaweed. Of course the resort isn’t responsible for the seaweed, but other resorts that we’ve been to, have used a tractor and at least attempted to clean up the beach. The Grand Sirenis made no attempt. We saw a few men out with wheelbarrows for like 10 mins, on one of the 8 days. The kid’s pool is also the swim-up bar pool and the entertainment pool. Having adult entertainment and the bar in the only shallow pool, isn’t awesome for families with small kids. Several people in our party got violently ill. Suspicions point to the buffet. Others were complaining of sore throat and hoarse voices because of the black air filters in the rooms. The evening shows were scheduled to start at 9:30pm which is already late for young kids, and still the shows didn’t start until after 10pm on most nights. Most nights there was nothing for the kids. We’ve been to a Grand Sirenis before, and this one didn’t even compare. This one disappointed on so many levels.
- AdvisoryStarting January 1, 2026, Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya will replace nightclubs with outdoor nighttime activities in newly renovated venues. Guests can enjoy music and dancing at La Plaza in Punta Cana and Bar Breathe until 2:00 a.m. This change reflects evolving guest preferences for open-air experiences and marks a modern upgrade to the resorts’ entertainment offerings. Traditional nightclubs will remain open until December 31, 2025, before transitioning to this refreshed concept.
