    great beach and ocean swimming

Great beach, pools, bars, water slides and grounds. 6 specialty restaurants were all pretty good, not great; Italian was our favorite. We only saw 7 species of birds: palmchat, gray kingbird, bananaquit, hispaniolan woodpecker, Antillian palm swift, greater antillean grackle, and Eurasian collared dove. Taxi from airport should only be $60; Traslados Turisticos, run by a med student, was great, 829-291-7314

    Expected better

Our travel agent requested bottom rooms bcuz we both have bad knees...When we got there they placed us on the 2nd floor and elevator not working. The room doesn't have any room for clothing (drawers, etc...) No mirror at the door to see how one looks after been dressed. We could smell sewage of some sort. The buffet food was NOT the greatest, doesn't cater to children. Route 66 restaurant was so bad we ended up going to buffet cuz still hungry. The Italian was soo bad. The French was pretty good. The japanese was really good. The pool was really nice. The beach was good but very windy when we were there and kicked us out from the water bcuz the waves were strong. Couldn't find chairs at the pool or beach (usually went down around 10am) they all had towels on them with no people sitting. That is so WRONG. The beach buffet was terrible had flies everywhere. The bar was good. Our cleaning lady was great. The nightly shows were good. Definitely not a 5 star. I would say a 3 star. Been to other resorts in punta cana 4 other times and all were AMAZING. Also didn't see any security at the resort ir the beach. Did u have any???

    Fine for its price

If you’re doom scrolling scary reviews let me say - you will be fine, but there are some things to consider if you want to know if this is right for you or your family. For starters, we waited late to book our family vacation and this was the vacation that met our last minute budget. This is a budget stay compared to others, there is no way around it - so manage your expectations. If you are being sold luxury you must move along. Prices of all inclusives have increased in the past couple of years and while the sticker may look high, it does not equal luxury. Our stay was relaxing and fine but I wouldn’t choose it again. The room was nice. It was clean but showed its age (chipped paint/tile etc) It is humid as it is the Caribbean, but it was spacious enough for 5 people with a cute balcony we enjoyed each night. Leaving the air conditioning running helps sort the humidity. If dampness or old tile is going to upset you then this is not for you. Housekeeping always came and we were restocked with bottled water, towels, and toilet paper as expected. We had a small issue with our toilet that was sorted quickly and I suspect it was due to the kids putting toilet paper in there which we were advised not. I never once smelled a sewage smell anywhere as noted in other reviews. The grounds and lobby are very beautiful and well maintained. We have many lovely family pictures now. There were staff busy and cleaning from early morning to late at night. The pool area is lovely and I’m so confused by people moaning about pool depth? The entire pool before the bridge is very shallow, past the bridge is deep and then I believe there is another pool for ULC members. We brought our own floaties for the youngest for their enjoyment and so we could relax. Floaties and balls are expensive to buy there. Food. Typical all inclusive food. Nothing was “great.” A step up from Cuba. I am certain were we not with the kids, venturing out of resort would have been the better food decision. The Ikebana was our first à la carte and it was really fun! It was also the more palatable of all the choices. Confused regarding the love for the Italian, every member of my family hated it. It was indeed edible though. We also tried the El Rancho, Brazilian, and Route 66. All average. We are foodies, worked in the fine dining industry for years and genuinely enjoy a fresh well made meal - so perhaps hard to please. Route 66 doesn’t deserve the hate it gets. Service was just fine all over. We are well travelled and I have to believe somethings must be lost in translation for many of the upset people? Staff were working hard and of good spirit. The first 2 days of buffet were great and then by day 3 we were over it. Nothing wrong or horrible, just bored with it. No one in our group got sick in anyway. When we travel Carribean we drink only bottled water (water in restos/buffet is safe!) and don’t eat veggies that aren’t cooked or fruits we can’t peel. We never went hungry but, in general, will probably not do all inclusive anywhere again due to the food. This isn’t unique to this resort - although some do it slightly better. Entertainment. The staff work really REALLY hard and are a lot of fun. That said, my kids were B O R E D with it. Will you kids be bored? I don’t know. But mine really didn’t care for any of the daytime activities and the night time entertainment was just a touch too late or too “baby-ish”. The family movie on Sunday was cute though, with popcorn, they loved this! The kids did love the foam party. While the entertainment wasn’t dazzling they had lots of their own fun at the pool, beach, and water park. The beach is fantastic. We had some great weather and could always get loungers. Beautiful, sandy beach with gorgeous waters. Very swimmable and picturesque. There are lots of food choices near the pool and beach. The pizza near the pool was genuinely tasty, we ate that often as we didn’t love the other choices. Again, we all used common sense and didn’t get sick. Water park. Yes, it shows its age. None of us were injured - not even a little. We did all the slides. Stairs need some repair but with the use of your eyeballs you will be fine. We went there twice! If you have a solo teen - they will likely complain. There is a big disconnect between stuff for littles and entertainment at night for adults. No teen club, or organized (well) sports and the games in the sports bar got repetitive quickly - not to mention the token machine was broken on two of seven nights. There was once a game building which is closed and although I read there would be water sports there were not. We tried the archery - it was pretty rudimentary but filled up a half a hour. Aside from an excursion off resort it was a job to keep him entertained. Probably better for folks with only young kids. Or a content without peers teen. The resort layout and beach is nice enough with just a few added amenities it could really level up its appeal. All in all it was nice to go to a beautiful sunny destination and enjoy my family. The resort is adequate but not luxury, our time would have been improved with just a little more to do on resort. If you want a memorable, plush with amenity vacation, buckle down and save another few dollars and book something else. If you’ve already booked and are worried - it will be fine. You will enjoy the sun and staff. Keep the drinks flowing and relax.
