Reception Staff poor service

Worst guys on reception staff. After 3 hours trying to explain that my reservation changed. They said they didn’t get the change but after making a phone call to cheap Caribbean was told it was sent. Then after they checked and found it was their mistake the guy was rude getting me checked in and didn’t give me towel cards that I had to end up paying for when I checked out. Glad that the pool staff and restaurant staff was amazing.

A week in paradise

Punta Cana has some of the best beaches in the world, and the beach at Riu Republica is right up there. I would say the resort itself could use some improvements but is overall a pretty good value for the price. Friendly, hard working wait staff. These folks do a difficult job with a smile. As someone who worked in the service industry for many years, I can't imagine having the patience and perseverance to deal with customers of this variety and abundance. Food was solid, definitely not as glaring as previous reviews have stated. Rooms were adequate and clean. The resort itself is newer and this was obvious with the excellent condition of the facilities. Beverages are supposed to be kept stocked in the room every two days which is way too long. This is a problem for those who drink alot of water, which you really should be if you are in the sun all day. We had to request water every day of our stay. In addition, if beer is also to be kept stocked in the room, then it should be stocked in reasonable quantity at an all inclusive resort. Four beers and 3 bottles of water every two days for two adults is inadequate. Additionally, the alcohol that is served at restaurants and bars doesn't taste quite right, even the call brands (red label, stoli, smirnoff, beefeater, etc.) Something is going on here, could be counterfeit products. Most drinks tasted flat and weak. While the resort makes an effort to accommodate guests of all types, this resort has a large percentage of people in their early 20s that can be rowdy and loud into the late hours of the night. The resort should monitor guest behavior in some manner to insure that guests that arent up partying at 4 a.m. can also be reasonably accommodated. Make sure that you aware of the the type of guests that this resort attracts being adult only and in this price range.

A good getaway resort

For me the ground transportation from the airport was great. I used AMSTAR through the website when making my reservations. AMSTAR was great, courteous, respectful and very helpful. Yorking was great at the airport explaining everything to us on how AMSTAR works and what to expect. It is a shared ride so expect to share the ride with other folks who maybe staying at different resorts, so the travel to your resort may take a while. Once at RIU Republic I was greeted by Santos from AMSTAR who also tremendous in getting us squared away with transportation and excursion info. From there registration for me was a breezy working with Sulin who got me checked in a flash with no issues. They also serve drinks to you while waiting in line. From there, I went to my room which had 2 beds as I requested when making my reservation. We had an issue with our toilet, I called the front desk and the maintenance man came right away and fixed it. The room was clean and stocked, besides I didn't spend a lot of time in my room anyway. The different restaurants were good in my opinion. Jorge and Sterling took really good care of us at the one restaurant. We sat with them every chance we got. Some have a wait time for dinner, so get there early. One thing that did bother me was they seem to keep running out of hand sanitizers, so I purchased my own to carry with me. I don't drink so I can't tell you about the drinks or anything like that. I drank bottled water which was good and I carried a bottle with me everyday all day and got a new bottle from the front desk. The gym was average I worked out several days while I was there. The outdoor RiuFit space was really cool with the TRX stations so I used that as well. The gym does have a water cooler which I used to refill my water bottle that I carried around with me. We went to the beach just for some pictures so I couldn't tell you about the chairs or anything like that. I will say that we weren't pressured to purchase anything from the vendors out on the beach. We spent most of our time hanging out at the resort's many pools. The pools were good, especially the swim up bars. Night life activity was good, with the main stage having activities each night, there's a sports bar that we hung out at as well. The Pachua Night Club was alright, they need to get some more up date music and learn how to blend or transition to the next song but other than that it was ok. Make sure you bring a lot of $$'s for tips, they work hard for you during your stay. All in all we had a good time and would go back again.

May 13, 2019

So I arrived on 5/6/19 for a eight day seven night stay. Check in was easy. We arrived around noon and had to wait until 3pm to check in. However, they did give us our all inclusive bands and the wifi information so that we could connect and communicate with our loved ones and get started eating and drinking. After 6 days here its apparent that there needs to be some adjustments made. First and foremost, there is not a large variety of entertainment. For the first 3 night at the main theater all the acts were Hispanic related. There wasn't an American show until Thursday night. There's people at this resort from all parts of the world. Not just of Hispanic descendant. It was very frustrating to say the least. The Hispanic population ( of vacationers) only made up about 20%. Also, there isn't much else to do during the day besides the pool or beach. No other activities. Nothing to get the people involved. I've been on cruises and to other resorts where the entertainment was great. Secondly, the specialty restaurants were disappointing. After trying the steakhouse and Italian restaurants we decided to stick to the buffet style restaurant. There's something there for everyone so finding something you like won't be that hard. However it does get repetitive. Thirdly, I have to mention the drinks. It was hard finding a drink that I actually liked because nothing is consistent. You may go to one bar and the drink quality may not be a good (or bad) as another. Thankfully I found a drink that I liked and was impossible to mess up. I started drinking Jack Daniel and Pepsi. Well I learned that after a certain time they run out of Jack Daniels and replace is with a much lighter whiskey. Everyone knows how dark Jack Daniel's is. They replace it with an alcohol 2 shades lighter. Similar to a Dewars. Now on the plus side. The people here a very nice and accommodating. The English is not that great but the try and that's all I can really ask. All in all this wasn't the worst vacation nor was it the best. Keep that in mind when you decide your next vacation. P.S. the jerk chicken hut near the beach is the absolute BEST! The best chicken on the entire resort. You have to try it!

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

A palatial retreat where the mixin' and the minglin' is only with adults - no kids or crying babies at this resort.

You're located on Dominican's Macoa Beach - the mind-boggling ocean views go on for days.

Taking the introductory scuba lesson (it happens in the pool) - you'll be ready for the ocean waters in no time.

The pools are spacious - you won't bump into each other - no one wants to be that close (especially if the bathrooms are faraway).

When you're ready for your next cocktail, all you have to do is just swim on over to the bar.

Detoxing in the steam bath at the gym (all those icky work impurities will stream out of your pores).

The whirlpool bath that makes you feel like a jelly fish.

What We'd Change

The resort is large, but you really don't feel crowded and the restaurants can accommodate everyone easily and there is plenty of room at the pools.

Why You Should Go

So close to the airport you'll land and be at the resort in a flash - you want your vacay to start immediately!

The Mediterranean-style village Altos de Chavon is near - authentic architecture, swoon-worthy boutiques, cafes & more.

Also in Altos de Chavon, check the Amphitheatre for Kandela! - don't miss this Caribbean musical review.

See the lush landscapes at the Punta Cana Ecological Reserve: plants, animals, coral reef, freshwater lagoons & more.

Hone your golf skills and tune up your tennis swing - both are available near the resort.
